Last week we had a special English class meeting titled “Gratitude: Discovering the ‘Invisible Gifts’ Around Us” — how we often overlook small acts of kindness in our daily lives. During the meeting, we shared those tiny yet heart-warming moments in life, such as teachers’ care and classmates’ help, which we used to take for granted. We also wrote short thank-you notes to someone we wanted to appreciate but rarely expressed it to. This meaningful experience has benefited me enormously. Not only have I learned to identify these “invisible gifts” and cherish the affection surrounding me, but it has also dawned on me that gratitude is more than a mere emotion. Therefore, I have made it a routine to express my thanks more consciously and frequently. Have you had similar activities at your school? I’d love to hear your stories! Hungry, we entered a restaurant. When we talked about our story, the boss’s eyes lit up with warmth as she listened. Knowing we were two ill-prepared, underequipped and inexperienced kids, she didn’t laugh at us but seemed quite taken with us. Then she asked, “Where are you boys planning on sleeping tonight?” “We aren’t sure,” we replied. “Maybe the school playground?” She responded immediately, “Oh no, you won’t. You boys are coming home with me and staying at my house!” Appreciating her offer, we followed her into a clean room. That night we found ourselves sweating in the heat of her three-story home. In the morning she fed us eggs and sent us on our way with best wishes for the successful completion of our project, pressing a couple of apples into our hands for the road. Without her, we might have slept on the school playground. Even today I still owed the successful adventure to the kindness, care and generosity of strangers. The admission fee of the gallery is ten dollars per person. According to a UN report, 62 million tons of e-waste was generated in 2022, enough to fill 1.5 million trucks. Most of it ended up in landfills or was burnt. There is also a shocking economic loss, as an estimated 62 billion US dollars’ worth of reusable resources — including rare earth elements — are lost in the process. Currently, just 1% of the world’s demand for these elements is met by e-waste recycling. With e-waste rising five times faster than recycling rates, new solutions to the problem are urgent. Aquafade could be one — a new type of plastic that could be used to cover electronics such as keyboards and dissolves (溶解) completely in water in about six hours when the device is no longer needed, making it easier to recycle the most valuable components. The inspiration for Aquafade came from dishwasher pods (凝珠). To explore further, Wangsaputra and co-inventor Joon Sang Lee teamed up with two material scientists at Imperial College London. They identified a food-safe, biodegradable material — PVOH. But PVOH alone was not sufficient to solve the problem. The main challenge was to make a material that can dissolve in water but is also waterproof (防水). After a series of attempts, they made a special biodegradable coating applied to the PVOH outer shell. This new material — PVOH with the special waterproof coating — is exactly Aquafade. Its dissolving process is simple; once you take off just one screw from the product, that creates a leak, and when you put it in water, it will dissolve after five to six hours, leaving behind milky water and the most valuable electronic parts of the product. For now, Aquafade is double the cost of regular plastic. But Wangsaputra said that mass production will make it cheaper. Peter Edwards, professor at the University of Oxford, who’s not involved with Aquafade, called it “an interesting development,” but wondered whether the dissolved plastic will persist in the environment and ultimately end up as microplastic. 24.What do we know about e-waste from paragraph 1? A.It has been effectively recycled worldwide. B.Its annual production has reduced sharply. C.Most of rare earth elements in it are recycled. D.The way to deal with it causes great economic loss. 25.What is an advantage of Aquafade? A.It dissolves in water to help recycling. B.It makes devices work more efficiently. C.It helps produce cheaper electronic products. D.It prevents plastic from entering the environment. 26.What is mainly presented in paragraph 3? A.The limitations of PVOH. B.The creation of Aquafade. C.The benefits of the waterproof coating. D.The comparison of two materials. 27.What can be inferred about the future application of Aquafade? A.It will soon take the place of regular plastic. B.Its production cost will stay high in the future. C.It has potential but still faces uncertainties. D.It has gained wide recognition from experts. 根据第一段中“Most of it ended up in landfills or was burnt. There is also a shocking economic loss, as an estimated 62 billion US dollars’ worth of reusable resources — including rare earth elements — are lost in the process.(其中大部分最终被填埋或焚烧。这还造成了惊人的经济损失 —— 据估算,价值约 620 亿美元的可再利用资源,包括稀土元素,都在这一过程中被浪费。)”可知,处理电子垃圾的方式造成了巨大的经济损失。故选D。 25.细节理解题。根据第二段中“Aquafade could be one — a new type of plastic that could be used to cover electronics such as keyboards and dissolves (溶解) completely in water in about six hours when the device is no longer needed, making it easier to recycle the most valuable components.(Aquafade可能就是其中之一——一种新型塑料,可用于覆盖键盘等电子产品,当设备不再需要时,它能在大约六小时内完全溶解在水中,使最有价值的部件更容易回收。)” 故选A。 26. 根据第三段中“The inspiration for Aquafade came from dishwasher pods (凝珠). Its dissolving process is simple; once you take off just one screw from the product, that creates a leak, and when you put it in water, it will dissolve after five to six hours, leaving behind milky water and the most valuable electronic parts of the product.(Aquafade的灵感来自洗碗机凝珠。 根据最后一段中“For now, Aquafade is double the cost of regular plastic. But Wangsaputra said that mass production will make it cheaper. Peter Edwards, professor at the University of Oxford, who’s not involved with Aquafade, called it “an interesting development,” but wondered whether the dissolved plastic will persist in the environment and ultimately end up as microplastic.(目前,Aquafade的成本是普通塑料的两倍。但Wangsaputra表示,大规模生产将使其更便宜。牛津大学教授Peter Edwards没有参与Aquafade项目,他称这是“一个有趣的发展”,但他想知道溶解后的塑料是否会长期存在于环境中,并最终变成微塑料。)”可推知,Aquafade有潜力,但仍面临不确定性。故选C。 C (原创题)Feeling lonely may affect how well older adults remember things, but it does not appear to make memory decline happen faster over time. This conclusion comes from a large European study involving over 10,000 people aged 65 to 94 across 12 countries, published in the journalAging & Mental Health. At the start of the study, participants who reported higher levels of loneliness scored lower on memory tests. However, over the years, their memory declined at about the same rate as those who did not feel lonely. This suggests that loneliness may play a more prominent role in the initial state of memory than in its progressive decline. The findings add to evidence connecting loneliness with brain function while suggesting that isolation may not directly increase the risk of dementia. The researchers propose that routine checks for loneliness could become part of cognitive health assessments for older adults. They suggest that addressing loneliness could be one of several ways to support healthier aging. Lead author Dr. Luis Carlos Venegas-Sanabria noted that the finding that loneliness significantly impacted memory, but not the speed of decline, was a surprising outcome. Loneliness and social isolation are often considered important risk factors for dementia. However, research results have been inconsistent. This study aimed to better understand how loneliness influences changes in memory over time, focusing on both immediate and delayed recall. Despite starting at a disadvantage, individuals with higher loneliness did not experience faster memory decline. The researchers note that loneliness was treated as a fixed trait in this study. In reality, feelings of loneliness can change over time in response to shifts in personal or environmental characteristics. Therefore, future studies should consider the dynamic nature of loneliness to provide a more accurate understanding of its impact on cognitive health. 28. What is the main finding of the European study? A. Loneliness causes rapid memory loss. B. Loneliness affects initial memory performance but not the speed of decline. C. Social isolation directly leads to dementia. D. Memory decline is faster in lonely people. 29. What does the underlined word “prominent” in Paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Obvious and important B. Difficult and complex C. Sudden and unexpected D. Rare and unusual 30. What do the researchers suggest based on their findings? A. Developing new memory tests. B. Ignoring loneliness in health assessments. C. Including loneliness checks in cognitive health evaluations. D. Focusing solely on physical health. 31. What limitation of the study is mentioned by the researchers? A. The participants were too young. B. Loneliness was treated as a fixed trait rather than a changing feeling. C. The study lasted too long. D. Only memory tests were used. B 29. A 30. C 31. 根据文章第一段“Feeling lonely... but it does not appear to make memory decline happen faster over time”以及第二段“This suggests that loneliness may play a more prominent role in the initial state of memory than in its progressive decline”可知,孤独感主要影响记忆的初始状态,而不影响衰退的速度。故选 B。 29. 根据划线词所在的句子“This suggests that loneliness may play a more prominent role in the initial state of memory than in its progressive decline”,结合前文提到孤独感影响记忆力但不加速衰退,可以推断孤独感在记忆的初始状态中起着“显著的、重要的”作用,因此 prominent 与 obvious and important(明显且重要)意思相近。故选 A。 30. 根据第三段“The researchers propose that routine checks for loneliness could become part of cognitive health assessments for older adults”可知,研究者建议将孤独感的常规检查纳入老年人认知健康评估的一部分。故选 C。 31. 根据最后一段“The researchers note that loneliness was treated as a fixed trait in this study. In reality, feelings of loneliness can change over time...” D (原创题)Human societies have not only adapted to the natural world but have also learned to transform it. According to Professor Erle Ellis from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, cultural practices have evolved to give humans significant influence over the ecosystems that support them. From early uses of fire to modern industrial agriculture and global cities, human innovation has reshaped the planet on a massive scale. Ellis is a leading researcher studying the Anthropocene, the current geological age defined by the large-scale impact of human activity on Earth. He leads the Anthroecology Lab, which examines how human societies interact with ecosystems at every level. His work highlights that human activity is now one of the dominant forces shaping Earth's systems, from climate patterns to biodiversity. However, these advances have come with serious environmental costs. Climate change, species extinction, and widespread pollution are linked to the expansion of human societies. These challenges require urgent action. A better future depends on addressing this environmental damage while maintaining the benefits of human progress, such as improved health and quality of life. Ellis argues that focusing only on crisis can be misleading. The same collective abilities that allowed societies to transform the planet can also be used to improve it. History shows that cooperation helps people solve complex problems. Rather than relying on narratives of collapse, long-term solutions depend on shared goals and collective ambition. Recent research supports this, emphasizing that social cooperation and cultural change are essential for addressing global challenges. Ellis also highlights the limits of relying only on natural sciences. While scientific data is critical, it is social and cultural systems that have consistently enabled societies to adapt. To achieve a better future, these capabilities must extend to include the broader web of life. Re-emphasizing the connection among all living beings and supporting Indigenous stewardship are vital steps. By recognizing human influence and embracing shared aspirations, societies can use their collective power to shape a positive future for both people and the planet. 32. What is the main purpose of Ellis's research? A. To warn against the dangers of industrial agriculture B. To prove that natural sciences are no longer useful C. To explain how humans reshape the planet and find solutions D. To compare ancient and modern agricultural methods 33. What can be inferred about the "Anthropocene" from the passage? A. It is a period when nature controls human development. B. It marks the beginning of human use of fire. C. It shows human activity has become a major geological force. D. It is the era before the Industrial Revolution. 34. What is the author's attitude towards the environmental crisis? A. Pessimistic B. Objective C. Indifferent D. Doubtful 35. What is the key to solving global environmental challenges according to Ellis? A. Strictly limiting human population growth B. Relying entirely on advanced technology C. Social cooperation and cultural change D. Returning to traditional agricultural practices 【答案】32.C 33. C 34. One early morning, as I walked around the block, a friend’s “hi” from my phone nearly stopped me in my tracks. 36 She talked me through a life update from the opposite side of the country. It felt like the surprise of an unexpected letter because we normally didn’t communicate that way. At the time, I only sent voice messages occasionally. Stage fright would kick in. I worried that I’d say the wrong thing, or that others would experience the same cringe (局促不安) upon hearing my voice that I do. 37 But recently, I’ve found myself recalling how my friend’s voice broke through loneliness.Particularly during a season that’s supposed to be all about love, I think about all the ways that can look-specifically, how we reach out and connect. As I’ve sent more random voice messages to loved ones, it’s become obvious how much I was longing for this point of connection with them. 38 There’s a level of closeness that comes with this kind of listening. 39 It allows you to take your time and speak without the pressure of an immediate response. You can fill it with laughter, pauses, and tone that a text message can’t convey. It’s a small act of presence, a way to say, “I’m thinking of you, and I want to connect in a way that feels human.” In a world where so much of our communication is quick, instrumental, and screen-based, voice messages are a rebellion (反抗). They’re a choice to be unpolished, to be real, and to invest time in someone else. 40 It’s just a friend’s “hi” in your pocket, waiting for you to hit play. A.In fact, I’m a late adopter of voice messaging. B.I find comfort in their voices even if I can’t see their faces. C.It was the first voice message I remember clicking play on. D.When we reach out, we can better understand others’ difficulties. E.Sometimes, connection doesn’t have to be grand to be meaningful. F.I think better in writing, I’d tell myself, holding on to my text messages G.A voice message is a conscious choice for thoughtful, heartfelt connection. 36.根据上文“One early morning, as I walked around the block, a friend’s “hi” from my phone nearly stopped me in my tracks. He called this adventure a “Centennial Project”, thus turning an irresponsible joke into a noble pursuit. It took a bit of convincing to get parental permission but, after promising to be careful and make a collect call home from every town we went through, the answer was “yes”. Neil was thirteen and I was twelve. We set off for our big adventure. I had a borrowed three-speed bicycle, five dollars in my pocket, and a cotton sleeping bag. A few hours into our trip, our joy kicked in as our bikes sped down the mile-long hill at the end of newly constructed, man-made Blackstrap Lake. We held on for dear life as we rushed faster on two wheels than we ever thought possible. It was a lot less fun when we had to climb up the other side of the valley. Hours later we were in the middle of nowhere. Our water was gone, I had a flat front tire, and we were walking unsteadily under the sky. The highway extended on forever in front of us. We had been walking for what seemed like a century when a huge yellow Department of Highways truck pulled up. “You boys need a ride?” “Yes, we do.” we replied, and seconds later two big workers threw our bikes up into the dump box and we were off. We told the men our story and they thought it quite amusing. Ten minutes later we were off-loaded at the Kenaston Garage, where I was able to get my tire fixed for fifty cents. Just that quickly we were back on the road! The sun filled the western sky as we approached the little community of Hawarden. Night was coming and we cycled around the town looking for a place to sleep under the stars. What a great adventure! The schoolyard looked promising as it offered a shelter. Hopefully the night would be clear, as we had no umbrella. 注意: (1)续写词数应为150个左右; (2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Hungry, we entered a restaurant. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Appreciating her offer, we followed her into a clean room. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【参考范文】 Hungry, we entered a restaurant. 词汇激活 行为类 ① 进入餐馆:enter a restaurant/step into a restaurant/walk into a restaurant ② 讲述经历:talk about our story/share our experience/tell them what we went through ③ 跟随:follow/go after/come along with 情绪类 ① 饥饿的:hungry/starving/ravenous ② 感激的:appreciating/grateful/thankful ③ 温暖:warmth/kindness/warm feeling [高分句型1]When we talked about our story, the boss’s eyes lit up with warmth as she listened. C (原创题)Feeling lonely may affect how well older adults remember things, but it does not appear to make memory decline happen faster over time. D (原创题)Human societies have not only adapted to the natural world but have also learned to transform it. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题,每小题1分,满分15分) (新情景)阅读下面短文, 从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 In 1958, during the holiday season, a young student named John Cruitt faced a life-altering tragedy. C (原创题)Feeling lonely may affect how well older adults remember things, but it does not appear to make memory decline happen faster over time. D (原创题)Human societies have not only adapted to the natural world but have also learned to transform it. Returning to traditional agricultural practices 第二节(共5小题;每小题2. 5分, 满分12. 5分) 阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 One early morning, as I walked around the block, a friend’s “hi” from my phone nearly stopped me in my tracks. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题,每小题1分,满分15分) (新情景)阅读下面短文, 从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 In 1958, during the holiday season, a young student named John Cruitt faced a life-altering tragedy.
