“Anxiety.”The very word invites dis-
comfort.Its effects -shortness of breath,
pounding heart,muscle tension-are outright
upsetting.But,as a clinician,I find that we
tend to miss out on many valuable opportuni-
ties presented by this human emotion. In and
of itself, anxiety is not deadly, nor is it a dis-
ease.Quite the contrary:it is an indicator of
brain and sensory health.Once we accept that
it is a normal,though uncomfortable,part of
life,we can use it to help us.
We all know working out at the gym is
hard.By nature,a“good workout”is uncom-
fortable, since it involves pushing our physical
strength past what we can easily do.The
sweet spot of exercise is always a somewhat
challenging experience.Similarly,if you want
to be emotionally stronger, you need to face
some tension.For example,one effective treat-
ment for fear is exposure therapy(疗法),
which involves gradually encountering things
that make one anxious, reducing fear over
time.
Humans are social creatures.When my
patients learn to open up to their partners
about their anxieties, they almost always re-
port a greater sense of emotional closeness.
Also,as international relationship expert Sue
Johnson teaches, when we express our need
for connection during challenging moments
(e.g.,"I'm having a hard time right now and
could really use your support.")it creates
greater connection and turns our anxiety into
love.
From time to time,we find ourselves at
the end of our rope. Our responsibilities pile
up,our resources break down, and we feel un-

comfortably anxious-what we're experien-
cing is called stress.Simply put,the demands
placed upon us outweigh our available re-

ding everything is OK only leads to disastrous
results.Medical treatment for stress may
function for a while, but it tends to make
things worse in the long run.The only solu-
tion to deal with stress is to do the mathemat-
ics to balance the scales.

Have you ever felt so tired after staying
up for a night that even coffee doesn't give
you the energy that you need? You may have
an energy drink, but the benefits of drinking
one are heavily outweighed by the risks.
In the past years, more and more studies
have found the deadly effects of energy drinks
on our bodies. The sugar, caffeine and energy
supplements(补充物)in energy drinks make
up a deadly mixture of ingredients that can af-
fect your heart function and send you to the
hospital!
A study by the University of Bonn,Ger-
many found that frequent consumption of en-
ergy drinks can greatly change the way our
heart functions. The study went on to say
that consuming energy drinks often causes
significantly increased heart contractions in
adults, which has the potential of putting you
at risk for irregular heartbeats.
It is possible that many people are uncon-
scious of the alarming side effects of energy
drinks because of the way they are labelled.
Most energy drinks contain between 80 milli-
grams to over 350 milligrams of caffeine,sug-
ar and energy supplements. When an energy
drink is marketed as a diet supplement,it may
be distributed without a "nutrition facts"la-
bel, which would show the harmful supple-
ments that are in the drink. However, even if
energy drinks are Food and Drug Administra-
tion (FDA)approved,they don't have to
show the number of supplements.

it is an indicator of brain and sensory health.Once we ac-
cept that it is a normal, though uncomfortable, part of
life,we can use it to help us.(恰恰相反:它是大脑和感
根据第二段中的“By nature,a‘good
workout'is uncomfortable, since it involves pushing our
physical strength past what we can easily do.(从本质上
Similarly,if you
want to be emotionally stronger, you need to face some
根据第三段“Humans are social crea
tures. When my patients learn to open up...and turns
our anxiety into love,(人类是社会生物。
demands placed upon us outweigh our available re-
sources, just like a set of scales (going out of bal-

The only solution to
deal with stress is to do the mathematics to balance the
根据第二段“The sugar,caffeine and
energy supplements(补充物)in energy drinks make up a
deadly mixture of ingredients that can affect your heart
function and send you to the hospital!”
根据第四段第一句“1 t is possible that
many people are unconscious of the alarming side effects
of energy drinks because of the way they are labelled.
根据最后一段最后一句“If you'd like
a natural energy boost, you could make time for a short
workout, which will give you all of the energy you need!"
第一段中的“You may have an energy
drink, but the benefits of drinking one are heavily out-
weighed by the risks.”
"A study by the University of Bonn,Germany found
that frequent consumption of energy drinks can greatly

第三段“many people
are unconscious of the alarming side effects of energy

Energy drinks may be widely available
but they aren't the healthiest or safest choice for your
body.”

gether as their running shoes rhythmically touch the
Joining such a group club
is great for runners.(加入这样的跑步团体对跑步者来
this group of runners看似与空前的内容相关,但G项中
2.F[上文提到“When you run alone,it is harder to get
out of the door and onto the pavement.(当你独自一人
"Trainers can assist you in setting a pace and establis-
hing realistic and achievable goals, and train you to be
the best runner you can be.A coach will develop variety
in running routes and content, making the whole work-
out so enjoyable that you may perform better without e-
ven realizing how much distance you covered.(数练可以

4.A「根据本段的关键信息“When you are part of a club,
you can make friends with those sharing the same pas-
sion.According to a fitness magazine,runners are

5.D根据本段的小标题Feel safe及空前“When in a
group, you will be reminded of possible dangers and if
there is an accident, people are there to help you.

Dear Editor,
I'm Li Hua,a faithful reader of our school newspaper.
Recently, the column "Health Exercise"is inviting sub
missions from students for proper exercise during the 30-
minute break.Here is my recommendation.Kongzhu,also
known as the Chinese yo-yo,works as a diabolo spinning
and buzzing like an acrobat on a string. It's a perfect mix of
art,culture and exercise
I strongly recommend kongzhu as a classroom break
activity. Not only does it offer a fun and challenging way to
improve hand-eye coordination,it also serves as a powerful
tool for stress management. As we navigate the challenges
of our academic lives,it's essential to find outlets that pro-
mote relaxation and wellness.Kongzhu serves the purpose
perfectly.Better yet,it's a window into a rich cultural herit-
age, providing us with an opportunity to connect with our
roots while enhancing our health.
Therefore,I strongly advise our school authorities to
consider incorporating kongzhu into our regular breaks.
Sincerely yours,
