The School Activity I Will Never Forget
In the past three years, there have been many colorful activities in our school. I will never forget the club activity in Grade Eight.
I was a member of the English Drama Club. Every Tuesday, we joined together in the room and learned to act interesting plays. It was my favourite time at my school. Last year, our teacher encouraged us to perform in front of all the students. We felt nervous at first, but our teacher believed us. To make it successful, we spent several weekends practising. It was tiring but no one gave up. Finally, we performed excellently and all the teachers and students praised us. Every member was satisfied with it.
Thanks to the club activity, I not only achieved my acting dream but also made some true friends. I will never forget the experience.Possible version 2:
The School Activity I Will Never Forget
In the past three years, there have been many colorful activities in our school. I will never forget the sports meeting that I took part in last term.
It was a sunny day. We gathered on the playground. All of us were happy and excited. I joined in the 400-metre race. At first, I was very nervous because I was worried about the result. However, when I heard the excited cheers from my classmates, I felt I was full of energy and completed the race successfully.
Another activity that impressed me most was the badminton competition in Grade 8. Before my best friend entered the final, we practised hard together every day. At last, she finished fourth. Both of us thought it was meaningful for friends to help each other.
Activities are over, but memories remain.

In a project called “My Kitchen Journey”, three students from Sunshine Middle School share their experiences of learning to cook.
I’ve been taking cooking classes at school. I’m still crazy about making food, even though it’s not always easy. Those cooking skills I’ve learnt are useful, especially when I have to make a meal with limited things. I’ve realized that to eat well, you need to keep learning to cook new dishes, not just a few dishes. Imagine you’re a musician—people will get tired of hearing even a great song, if it’s the only one you can play. The same goes for cooking.
I love watching my mum mix different things to make delicious dishes. I don’t think we need to stick to recipes (食谱) strictly. And what matters is just trying things out. So when I cook, I often try something new and take notes of what I’ve done and what I’ve used—a bit like what I do in my Science classes! I’ve learnt a lot of cooking skills, but I know I still have more to learn.
Helping in the kitchen is fun. I can make simple things like pies for everyone. But I often make a mess. Once, I even served my pie without the sauce! My family are patient. They’ve given me the confidence to learn more cooking skills. Books help me a lot in my learning. I like to read cooking books in my room and go to the kitchen when I think I can manage some key recipes well.
24.According to Simon, what should we do to eat well?
A.Be a musician. B.Play a great song.
C.Cook more new dishes. D.Buy more cooking books.
25.Why does Amy think cooking is similar to studying Science?
A.She tests her dishes in a lab. B.She follows Mum’s suggestions.
C.She cooks with Math skills. D.She keeps trying and taking notes.
26.How does Daniel improve his cooking?
A.By reading and practicing. B.By taking cooking classes.
C.By watching his mum cook. D.By making delicious sauce.
27.What plays an important role in all the three cooking experiences?
A.Mixing different things. B.Learning cooking skills.
C.Reading different books. D.Having cooking lessons.

Brazilian artist Vik Muniz uses everyday objects in unusual ways. Through his art, Muniz makes people think differently about their everyday lives-even their own rubbish.
In 2007, Muniz worked on a two-year project at one of the world’s largest landfills. Until its closure in 2012, Jardim Gramacho received about 70 percent of the rubbish from Rio de Janeiro. About 3,000 rubbish pickers, known as catadores, worked there. Their job was to hunt through the rubbish for recyclable cans, bottles, and other materials. They then made money by selling the objects to recycling companies.
The catadores’ work was dirty and dangerous, and most of them only received between $20 and $25 a day. Despite the hard conditions, many catadores were proud of their work. Valter Dos Santos, a worker at Jardim Gramacho for more than 25 years, told Muniz, “I am proud to be a picker. I try to explain to people that recycling prevents great harm to nature and the environment. People sometimes say, ‘But one single soda can?’ One single can is of great importance! That single can will make the difference.”
Muniz became friends with Dos Santos and other catadores. They allowed him to take their photographs at the landfill, where they posed for artistic portraits. For example, Muniz photographed a landfill worker in the style of a famous French painting. The workers then helped Muniz create huge images of these photos on the floor of his workshop. They used materials from the landfill to add color and depth to the images.
________ Muniz says he wanted to “change the lives of people with the same materials they deal with every day.” A photograph of his recreation of the French painting sold for £28,000 ($50,000) at a London art auction. Muniz gave the money to the catadores workers’ organization.
In 2010, a movie called Waste Land was made about Muniz’s project. The film received many awards and helped make people aware of the rubbish collectors’ lives. The catadores also began to see themselves differently. “Sometimes we see ourselves as so small,” says Irma, a cook at Gramacho, “but people out there see us as so big, so beautiful.”
28.Why did the writer mention Valter Dos Santos?
A.To tell the story of a catador’s life. B.To describe the catadores’ hard conditions.
C.To show the value of a catador’s work. D.To give an example of successful catadores.
29.What can we learn about Muniz’s photographs?
A.They were all taken at the landfill. B.He spent a long time on each of them.
C.They were only part of his unusual creation. D.He took them in the style of famous paintings.
30.Which of the following is the most suitable for ________?
A.Why take such photos of these catadores? B.Why create such huge images using rubbish?
C.How to help these people in a creative way? D.How to turn everyday objects into art pieces?
31.Which of the following shows the right order of the things that happened?
a. A movie was made about Muniz’s project. b. Gramacho stopped receiving rubbish.

A medical breakthrough in China is giving new hope to people with spinal cord injuries (脊髓损伤). Scientists have created a brain-spinal chip (芯片) that allows paralyzed (瘫痪的) patients to move their legs, and even walk again.
The chip, only 1mm wide, is designed to be fitted into the brain and spinal cord. If the natural communication between the brain and muscles (肌肉) is lost, this chip becomes the bridge. When the chips work, they create a direct connection between the brain and muscles.
The results have been amazing. A 34-year-old man, paralyzed after a fall, could move his legs just one day after the operation on January 8, 2025. Two weeks later, he walked five meters with help. Three other patients had similar operations in February and March, all getting better within weeks. Even though the patients’ nervous systems were damaged (受损), the chips helped them walk again. This marks a big step in China’s progress in medical science and it brings hope for over 3.7 million people in China.
“This is just the beginning,” Jia, the lead researcher, says. “With the technology, these people may one day leave wheelchairs behind after 3 to 5 years of training.”
Behind this achievement is a long journey of careful research and bold thinking. It took the researchers over 10 years to develop the chip. They tested it on animals first, and then on people. They faced many challenges, yet they never gave up. Step by step, they developed a system to reconnect the mind and body in ways once appearing only in science fiction.
As the chip continues to improve, it lights a new path forward—one built on science, shaped by care, and aimed toward a brighter future.
32.What do we know about the chips mentioned in the passage?
A.They are only as wide as 2 mm. B.They are fitted into the man’s arms.
C.They help the patients walk again. D.They improve the patients’ memory.
33.Which of the following meanings is suitable for the underlined word “bold”?

A total of 23 spotted seals (斑海豹) were put back into the waters off the coast of Dalian in Northeast China’s Liaoning Province on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2023 as part of China’s continuous efforts to protect endangered wildlife.
The seals were hunted and sold, but have now been saved and marked for future protection. A fishery law enforcement ship arrived at the sea area near Dalian in the morning, carrying the spotted seals. The seals were let go free one by one into the sea. They swam freely in the water, returning to their natural home.
Spotted seals are nationally protected animals in China. They are the only kind of seals that can breed (繁殖) in Chinese waters. Like migratory (迁徙的) birds, they appear around October every year in Liaodong Bay, and take the long journey back to the Northwest Pacific in May after breeding. They are often considered as the “panda of the sea”.
Thanks to China’s top-class national protection in recent years, the population of spotted seals in Chinese waters has reached around 2,000, while the global population is between 400,000 and 600,000. Studies have shown that these 2,000 spotted seals are of great importance for the study and research on spotted seals.
To protect this rare animal and its ecological environment, the Liaoning Dalian Spotted Seal Wetlands were set up in 1992. In January 2002, they were included in the List of Wetlands of International Importance. Covering an area of 560,000 hectares with a coastline of about 370 kilometers, the wetlands are rich in biological resources. They have become home to nationally protected animals such as the spotted seal, finless porpoise, killer whales, false killer whales, common dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, and East Asian river dolphins.
Since 1992, researchers in Dalian have successfully saved 388 spotted seals and put 299 of them back into the wild.
61.Where were the 23 spotted seals put back into the sea?
62.What is the other name of the spotted seal?
63.With China’s protection, what has happened to the spotted seals in Chinese waters?
64.What does the underlined word “they” in paragraph 5 refer to (指的是)?

What do you think will happen if you draw a picture with crayons and cover up that picture with paint? Now follow the steps below to find out the answer.
What you need
*crayons of different colours
*drawing paper
*blue poster paint
*a small bowl
*a cup filled with water
*a paintbrush
How to do it
Step 1 Think about a scene under the sea with different-coloured fish and sea plants. And then draw the fish and sea plants with your crayons. The more colours you use, the better your picture will be.
Step 2 Pour a little blue paint into the bowl. Add a bit of water and stir (搅拌) to make your paint a little thinner.
Step 3 Dip your brush into the blue paint in the bowl. Cover your whole picture with the blue paint. What happens? You have sea plants and animals living in a blue sea!
Why it happens Your crayons are made of wax (蜡). Wax resists, or stays away from the paint. That’s why it does not cover the picture. So your sea plants and fish are still there.
21.Which tool is needed for Step 1?
A.A paintbrush. B.Different crayons.
C.A small bowl. D.Some blue paint.
22.Which picture shows what you do in Step 2?
A.B.C. D.
23.What does the underlined word “it” in the last part mean?

【答案】24.C 25.D 26.A 27.B
【导语】本文是来自阳光中学的三个学生在“我的厨房之旅”项目中分享他们学习烹饪的经历与收获。
【解析】
24.细节理解题。根据“I’ve realized that to eat well, you need to keep learning to cook new dishes, not just a few dishes.”可知,Simon认为要吃得好,需要不断学习烹饪新菜肴。故选C。
25.细节理解题。根据“So when I cook, I often try something new and take notes of what I’ve done and what I’ve used—a bit like what I do in my Science classes!”可知,Amy觉得烹饪和学习科学相似是因为都会不断尝试并做记录。故选D。
26.细节理解题。根据“Books help me a lot in my learning. I like to read cooking books in my room and go to the kitchen when I think I can manage some key recipes well.”可知,Daniel通过阅读烹饪书籍并实践来提升厨艺。故选A。

31.Which of the following shows the right order of the things that happened?
a. A movie was made about Muniz’s project. b. Gramacho stopped receiving rubbish.
c. Dos Santos started working at Gramacho. d. Muniz made friends with some catadores.
A.d-c-b-a. B.c-d-b-a. C.d-c-a-b. D.c-d-a-b.
【答案】28.C 29.C 30.B 31.D

33.Which of the following meanings is suitable for the underlined word “bold”?
bold /bəʊld/ adj.
1. PERSON/ACTION not afraid of taking risks and making difficult decisions:
He had the ability to take bold imaginative decisions.
2. COLOURS/SHAPES very strong or bright so that you notice them:
Stripes are bold, bright, and fun to wear.
3. LINES/WRITING written or drawn in a very clear way:

46.句意:当我妹妹说她饿了的时候,我们正从宇宙飞船上看着烤箱。根据“we...the oven (烤箱) from the spaceship when my sister said she was hungry ”及备选词可知,此处指当妹妹说饿的时候,作者和妹妹正在看烤箱,所以空处应用过去进行时was/were doing,主语we,用 were doing。look at“看”,故填were looking at。
47.句意:餐馆里的食物香味也让我感到饿了。根据“made me … hungry”可知,感觉到饿了,feel“感觉”,make sb do sth“让某人做某事”。故填feel。
48.句意:我妹妹被饼干吸引了。根据“attracted to the”以及“so we bought some”,被饼干所吸引,所以买了一些饼干,biscuit表示“饼干”,此空应填复数形式。故填biscuits。
49.句意:你会喜欢它们的!根据“They look like rockets and taste like honey”可知,饼干看起来像火箭,吃起来像蜂蜜,所以会喜欢的,love“喜欢”,此处用一般将来时will do的结构。故填will love。
50.句意:我们在博物馆里待了一整天。根据“the rest of the day”,空格后是一段时间,应用介词for与其搭配。故填for。

65.As a student, what can you do to protect wildlife?
【答案】61.Off the coast of Dalian in Northeast China’s Liaoning Province. 62. Panda of the sea. 63.The population of spotted seals in Chinese waters has reached around 2,000. 64.The Liaoning Dalian Spotted Seal Wetlands. 65.We can join the local activities and raise money for groups to protect wildlife.

C.How to help these people in a creative way? D.How to turn everyday objects into art pieces?
