October 9th, Lower Reaches
Today was the first day of the summer camp. Ms. Ella asked my classmates and me to watch a river in the forest. So we went to the lower reaches. It was such a rainy day and my feet were completely wet! Boring! Another school task!
I took some photos because I had to. Who cares about water? I just wanted dry socks.
October 10th, Middle Reaches
Ms. Ella took us to the side channels (河道) of the middle reaches. We found a puddle (水洼) there. The water was calm — as smooth as glass. Ms. Ella told us that the water gets into the ground and finally flows into the river. Okay…and?
Ms. Ella told us to look more closely. I moved nearer. There were little green balls in the water! I checked my book and found out they are called Volvox algae (团藻). They can make their own food and produce O₂. How amazing! Maybe watching closely isn’t so bad.
October 11th, Upper Reaches
Today was our last day at the river. From the mountain top, we watched it turn and bend (弯曲).
“Why do rivers bend?” I asked. Ms. Ella smiled, “Let’s make a model on the sand, so we can learn the rivers’ changes along the way.” We dug a path and poured water from our bottles. Then we learnt that rivers bend because water moves faster on the outside and slower on the inside.
In every long river, the start, the middle and the end can feel like completely different worlds. Just like a famous writer said, “Nature is the best teacher.”
19. What did Ms. Ella ask the writer to do?
A. To watch a river. B. To wash socks.
C. To go swimming. D. To enjoy sunny days.
20. How did the writer feel when he found the green balls?
A. Bored. B. Amazed. C. Proud. D. Worried.
21. Why did Ms. Ella and her students make a model?
A. To dig for more water. B. To collect sand from the river.
C. To make water run slowly. D. To understand rivers’ changes.
22. What did the writer learn from the summer camp?
A. Rivers are important to the forest.
B. It’s a good way to learn with classmates.
C. It’s meaningful to explore nature.
D. Watching is better than making a model.

“Which bag charm (包包挂饰) should I take with me today?” This simple question shows a new fashion across China. If you look around on the streets, you can see different kinds of bag charms. Nowadays, they have become an important part of the “emotional economy (情绪经济)”.
Bag charms are popular mainly because they bring special emotional value. “When I feel tired after an exam, my cute panda charm always cheers me up,” said a student. For teenagers, bag charms also make it easy to start talks and make friends. When they find a classmate with the same charm, they can share their likes. According to Xu Xinyue, a teacher at the Institute for Cultural Industries of Shenzhen University, “Bag charms meet young people’s needs well. They give young people a chance to share their feelings. They bring them happiness, show their own styles and connect them with others.”
Bag charms also influence production in the toy industry. With AI and 3D printing, toy factories can create new cartoon characters fast. A company in Yiwu even makes about 100 kinds of new products every month, or three to four new designs each day. These days, factory orders are becoming smaller and more flexible. They produce only about 50 pieces and test new ideas fast. If the charm is not popular among young people, the factories will design new ones right away. In Shipai, Dongguan, many toy factories work closely together. This helps them make bag charms quickly. With China’s delivery system (运送系统), new charms can reach shops in just three to seven days.
So, which bag charm will you take tomorrow? A tiny charm on your bag can be a small piece of who you are. It also shows a new way of making things—smaller, faster, and made just for you.
23. How does the writer lead the topic?
A. By telling a story. B. By listing numbers.
C. By giving an example. D. By asking a question.
24. What does Xu Xinyue think of bag charms?
A. They are cute for young people.
B. They help people with their feelings.
C. They help students do well in exams.
D. They let teachers know students better.
25. What does the underlined word “flexible” in Para. 3 probably means?
A. High in price. B. Hard to move. C. Easy to change. D. Large in number.
26. What is the purpose of the text?
A. To share different bag charms.
B. To tell the history of bag charms.
C. To show the influence of bag charms.
D. To explain changes in Chinese factories.

Most people throw away crab and shrimp shells after eating. Tons of shells end up as waste. But, Dr. Rosa Isela from Mexico and her team have turned the waste shells into a white powder called chitosan. This powder is different from plastic—it breaks down easily in the environment. It is safer and can be used in many ways.
Chitosan helps keep fish and shrimp healthy. Fish farmers raise them in big ponds. Sometimes, harmful bacteria (细菌) grow in the water and make the baby shrimp sick. Chitosan has a positive charge (电荷). Bacteria have a negative charge. When chitosan touches bacteria, it sticks to them like a magnet (磁铁). This kills the bacteria or stops them from growing. Farmers add a little chitosan to the pond water. It kills over 90% of the bad bacteria. As a result, more baby shrimp survive and grow strong.
Chitosan can also help keep fruit fresh. Farmers use it to make a special coating (涂层) that works in three ways. First, it kills bacteria to stop the fruit from going bad. Second, it locks water inside to keep the fruit from getting dry. Third, it slows down the fruit’s breathing, so fruit saves energy and stays fresh longer. This means farmers can sell more fruit and reduce waste.
Chitosan is especially important for cities on the coast. People there, both locals and visitors, eat a lot of seafood, so tons of shells are thrown away every day. Now those shells can be used to make chitosan. In this way, waste becomes something useful. This is a good example of how science can turn a problem into a solution. Chitosan helps people and brings us hope for a greener future.
27. What is chitosan made from?
A. Sea shells. B. Clean water. C. Fresh fruit. D. Plastic waste.
28. According to the text, what are the uses of chitosan?
① It keeps fish healthy. ② It locks water inside fruit.
③ It serves as food for fish. ④ It slows down fruit’s breathing.
A. ①②③ B. ②③④ C. ①②④ D. ①③④
29. Why is chitosan important to cities on the coast?
A. It makes seafood more delicious.
B. It protects the cities’ environment.
C. It brings more visitors to the cities.
D. It creates new jobs for local people.
30. What is the best title for the text?
A. Chitosan: Turn Waste into Worth
B. Chitosan: Enjoy Life with Seafood
C. Chitosan: A Material to Save the Sea
D. Chitosan: A way to Keep Fruit Fresh

【答案】19. A 20. B 21. D 22. C

【答案】27. A 28. C 29. B 30. A

To celebrate a Chinese festival, I usually ________ (follow traditions / try modern ways / do a mix of both).______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】范文1:
To celebrate a Chinese festival, I usually follow traditions. In this way, I can understand the deep meaning of the traditional festival better.
Last Dragon Boat Festival, I watched the dragon boat race with my parents by the river. The boats were fast and the drums were loud. My dad told me the story of Qu Yuan, who was a great poet and loved his country very much. After that, we made zongzi at home. It was not easy but fun. I think traditional celebrations are meaningful because they help me remember our culture.
范文2:
To celebrate a Chinese festival, I usually try modern ways. This helps me bring new life to the traditional festival.
Last Mid-Autumn Festival, I recorded a short video with my family. We took turns saying “Happy Mid-Autumn Festival” to the camera and waving. Then I sent the video to my grandparents who live in another city. To my surprise, they replied with a sweet voice message — they sounded so happy! Though miles apart, we felt close. That’s the beauty of a modern celebration: staying connected in a fresh and meaningful way.
范文3:
To celebrate a Chinese festival, I usually do a mix of both. I can understand the meaning of the traditional festival and add some fun to it.
During the Spring Festival, my family always stay at home together to welcome the new year. However, last year, my parents took me on a trip to Beijing. It was amazing to visit the Great Wall and Tian’anmen Square. We also had a dinner with my grandparents through a video call. While we were eating Beijing Duck, they were cooking fish at home. Seeing each other made all of us happy.
