It was late. John was very tired after a long day. He went to bed and soon fell asleep. Charlie was sleeping beside the bed. Suddenly, Charlie started barking. “Woof! Woof! Woof! Woof!” John woke up and smelt smoke. A fire! Smoke started to come in from under the door. John knew they couldn’t get out that way now. Their room was on the eighth floor, so they couldn't climb out of the window. They had to do something to stop the smoke. John was very tired.
