Graduation day came. The ceremony was loud. I heard Sarah crying on my left. Owen was laughing the way he always did—big and loud. We had spent six years together at this school. Now we were leaving. But I found it hard to say goodbye to my teachers and friends.
After the event, our teachers led us back to the classroom.
“Everyone, sit down,” Mrs. Miller said excitedly.
I heard something being set on the table in front of me. It was a little heavy.
I reached out my hand and touched a smooth surface. Then—a round face, a small nose, a big smile.
My breath caught. “Is this... Sarah?”
“Yes,” the teacher said softly.
I stopped. I touched it again. I had heard that smile so many times. Now I could feel it.
I moved my hand to the right. It was another face with big eyes and a small bump (凸起) above the left eye. That was Owen’s scar (伤疤), earned from a fall out of a tree in the third grade.
“Owen,” I said quietly.
Face after face. All my friends. I learned them with my hands.
Then I reached for the last one. It felt different—older, lines around the eyes, a kind smile.
“Teacher,” I said.
I heard her take a deep breath. “Yes. That’s me.”
I touched her face again—the laugh lines and the kindness written all over her face. This was the woman who had guided me for six years. At last, I knew her face.
Under each face were tiny raised bumps. ‘Sarah Smith,’ the bumps spelled out. Under Owen’s face: ‘Owen Brown.’ This way, we would always remember each other’s names.
Tears came out. For the first time, I could “see” all my friends—and so could they.

In August 2025, 280 robot teams from 16 countries gathered in Beijing for the first World Humanoid (人形) Robot Games. They competed in football, athletics, dance, and martial arts (武术). It looked like science fiction — but it was very real.
Behind the fun lies a serious competition between nations. China is taking the lead. According to Omdia, about 13,000 humanoid robots were shipped worldwide in 2025. Of these, 87% came from Chinese companies. American companies like Tesla held just 1%. The difference is huge and growing.
How did China get so far ahead? One answer is strategy (策略). While some Western companies focus on industrial robots, many Chinese companies build robots for “edutainment”—education and entertainment. These robots dance in malls and perform at sports events.
At first, this might seem less important. But experts say it has a deeper purpose. By putting thousands of robots into real-world use, Chinese companies collect valuable data about power, life and movement. This helps them improve technology quickly.
This strategy also creates a supply chain (供应链). Producing thousands of robots requires many parts. This builds an industry ecosystem. As production increases, costs come down. China is making robots cheaper and better.
However, hardware (硬件) is only half the story. Robots also need software — the “brain” that controls them. In March 2026, China introduced a new national standard for robot control systems. For the first time, different robots can share the same “brain”.
This standard was developed by many universities and companies including Huawei. It means a factory robot could be reprogrammed to work on a farm. Software can be reused like building blocks.
The robot race is about shaping the future. As robots enter homes and hospitals, the leading country will help decide how humans and machines live together. For now, China’s strategy is working. The robots dancing on stage today may be the ones helping in homes tomorrow. The race has just begun, and China is running fast.
31. What is the main purpose of paragraph 1?
A. To list all the sports in the Robot Games. B. To describe what the robots look like.
C. To introduce the Robot Games held in China. D. To predict the future of robot technology.
32. What advantage does China’s “edutainment” strategy bring?
A. It enables robots to be more intelligent. B. It focuses more on factory robots.
C. It helps collect useful performance data. D. It reduces the need for robot parts.
33. Why is the new national standard important?
A. It makes all robots look the same. B. It allows different robots to share software.
C. It stops foreign robots entering China. D. It increases the cost of robot production.
34. What does the writer think of China’s future in robotics?
A. Promising. B. Stuck. C. Educational. D. Uncertain.
35. In which section of a newspaper can we probably read the text?
A. Entertainment. B. Education. C. Science fiction. D. Technology.
D
Birds are famous for waking up early. But in a recent study, scientists discovered that light pollution is leading birds to wake even earlier and go to sleep later. Bright lights are costing birds an average of 50 minutes of sleep each night.
Brent Pease is a teacher at a university. In 2023, he wanted his students to be more excited about birds. So, he set up a microphone at an outdoor education center to record birdsong and play it in class.
It worked well! Then, he began using a special recording device (装置) called a PUC. It was made by a group named Bird Weather. This device doesn’t just record birdsong; it also records time, place, and weather information, and sends all of this to the Internet.
Bird Weather gets data from PUCs all over the world. Their website has collected about 1. 4 billion bird songs. Dr Pease believes this is “really important for wildlife research”.
With this wealth of data, scientists can know not only where birds are, but what they are doing all day and night. Dr Pease and another scientist, Neil Gilbert, decided to use this data to study how light pollution affects birds.
What is light pollution? It happens when too much artificial light, like that from streetlights or buildings, makes the night much brighter than normal. Light pollution affects 23% of the Earth. It’s known that bright city lights can confuse (使混淆) and even kill birds that fly at night. But the scientists wanted to find out how birds were affected when they lived in areas with light pollution.
They found that in brighter places, birds began singing 18 minutes earlier in the morning. At night, they sang 32 minutes longer. That means they stayed up 50 minutes longer every day.
The light had a stronger effect on birds with larger eyes (compared to their body size). This included birds like American robins (知更鸟), Northern cardinals (红衣主教鸟), and so on. But birds that nest in dark areas were not greatly affected by light pollution.
Scientists are worried that birds’ natural daily rhythms are changing. But they still don’t know if staying up longer is harmful to the birds. Maybe the birds are getting used to it.
36. What are the main methods of the research?
① Using a special device (PUC) to record and study bird songs.
② Counting the number of bird songs in different areas by hand.
③ Studying birds with larger eyes and birds nesting in dark areas.
④ Comparing the timing of bird songs with the data on light pollution.
A. ①②③ B. ②③④ C. ①②④ D. ①③④
37. What can scientists do with the data from Bird Weather?
A. They can change birds’ sleep habits. B. They can make sure how far birds will fly.
C. They can learn about birds’ daily activities. D. They can build more outdoor education centers.
38. What does the underlined word “artificial” in paragraph 6 probably mean?
A. Human-made. B. Natural. C. Colorful. D. Amazing.
39. What does paragraph 7 tell us?
A. How the scientists are worried about the birds. B. The main findings or results of the recent study.
C. Solutions for reducing the harm of light pollution. D. The fact that birds enjoy singing in the early morning.
40. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. How Light Pollution Changes Birds’ Sleep B. Why Some Birds Nest in Dark Areas
C. Why Birds Sing Longer in Downtown Areas D. How New Devices Help Study Birds

At lunch, my friend Zhao Meng said, “Alice, Try eating dumplings and baozi roll like a local.” I picked one up with chopsticks, but the dumpling broke and it fell onto my roommate Sophia’s shirt. She jumped up and shouted, “British attack!” Everyone in the dining hall laughed. In Chinese class, our teacher asked us to talk about hobbies. I wanted to say, “I’m good at drawing feng jing,” but I said “feng zheng” instead. The teacher smiled and said, “Hmm, that’s interesting.” Now my friend Lin Yu keeps saying, “Show me your kite art.” The funniest part was PE class. We played jianzi. On my first try, I kicked it so hard that it flew onto a tree. The PE teacher shook his head, but Zhao Meng told me, “Use your shoe like this.” I tried again and kicked it three times. Everyone cheered. I felt so proud. I miss my friends back in London, but life in Jinan is full of surprises and I’m starting to love it here.

C
D. Technology.
【答案】31. C 32. C 33. B 34. A 35.

【答案】36. D 37. C 38. A 39. B 40. A

例文
Dear Mike,
How’s everything going? I’m so happy to receive your letter and know that you’re interested in our school’s social practice activities.
Last month, I took part in a farm visit organized by our school. We learned to grow vegetables and feed animals there. Local farmers taught us how to care for plants and work as a team. Through this activity, I learned the value of hard work. I also understood the importance of cooperation when we helped each other finish tasks. This “walking classroom” taught me more than textbooks. It made me more patient and responsible, and I truly believe we learn best from real-life experiences.
Looking forward to your stories about your school life too! Hope to hear from you soon.
Yours,
Li Hua
