第一部分:读(共三节,满分70分)
第一节:判断正误(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)
Brian Bristles was a creative boy. He looked at everything as though it were a beautiful painting, and he could paint anything, filling it with magic and color.
One day, Brian and his grandfather decided to spend a weekend with an old friend, Marcus, who was a very famous chess player. When they arrived, Brian went into a large room and found a lovely chess set. However, he felt that the whole set looked quite boring because the board was just black and white.
So, that night, paint box in hand, he tiptoed (踮脚走) from his room to the chess room. There he spent the night painting each piece in the most colorful way. He also painted a beautiful scene on the chessboard. Brian hoped to use his art to surprise his grandfather and Marcus.
The next morning, when Marcus discovered that his pieces had been covered in a thousand colors, instead of being pleased, he was very angry. He had a very important match to play. No matter how lovely all those colors were, it would be impossible to play chess without being able to know which pieces were which, and even more difficult now that the squares of the board were covered with a painting.
Brian’s grandfather explained to him that even the loveliest and most colorful things need some sense of order. The boy felt very hurt, but he wasn’t about to give up easily. He went to his grandfather and Marcus and asked if he could do something to rectify (纠正) what he had done to the chess set. Knowing how creative the boy was, they decided to give him a chance. When he finished, he showed them his work.
Now there were two perfect teams: that of night and that of day. On one side, the board and the pieces had been decorated with stars and moons. On the other side, the decorations were suns, clouds, and rainbows. It was done so well that the whole set had a sense of order and harmony (和谐).
Brian understood that he should add some beauty of colors as well as follow the rules. The two grown-ups looked at the paintings and smiled. They believed Brian Bristles would surely become a great artist.

Four boys sat in the headmaster’s office, waiting for their punishment. They were in big trouble and they knew it.
When the headmaster came in, he told the boys, “I’ve just spoken to all your parents on the phone. They have allowed me to punish you in whatever way I see fit. You have caused a lot of extra work for our cleaner by writing on the walls today. But he won’t do the cleaning. It’s your duty now. That is to say, you boys will clean the walls every day after school for the next week.”

On the last day, they finally finished the job. But when they was about to leave, the cleaner spoke. “In the country where I grew up, we hardly had books or teachers. Even to get a new pencil was a big thing,” he said.
“You used pencils to write on the walls. A pencil is like a person. For a person, there is the point on the outside, but what does the work is inside,” he explained. “Every once in a while, you have to get a painful sharpening (削尖). That is what you’ve had this week,” he said. “From now on, instead of leaving your mark on the walls, leave your mark on life. Write your own story using what’s inside you.”

About a week later, Eva seemed much better. She started to play in the garden again, laughing like before. Her father was hopeful and happy, but Miss Ophelia and the doctor were not so sure—and neither was Eva herself.
One afternoon, her father called her over with a gift. “You’re getting better now, aren’t you, dear?” he asked gently, holding her hand.
Eva looked at him and began to cry. “Papa, I’m going to leave you soon. I have things I want to tell you before I get weaker.”
He held her close. “Don’t say that. You’re just tired from the illness.”
“No, Papa. I’m not sad for myself, but for you—and for our slaves (奴隶). They love me and they are so kind to me. I wish they could all be free.”
“Don’t you think we treat them well?” he asked.
“Yes, but what will happen to them if something happens to you? Some people buy husbands but not wives, or mothers but not their children. They separate families. Papa, when I’m gone, will you try to set them free?”
St. Clare held her tighter (更紧地). “You’re all I have in the world. I’ll do anything you ask.”
“Promise me Tom will be free.”
“I promise, my dear child.”
Too weak to walk now, Eva asked her father to help carry her to bed. He lifted her gently, rocked (摇晃) her in his arms, and sang softly until she fell asleep.

【答案】
Green Life
Nowadays, living a green life is becoming more and more popular. Why do we call on green life? First, it helps protect our environment. Second, it can deal with global warming. Third, it makes our world more beautiful.
Then how can we live a green life? To start with, we should reuse old things instead of throwing them away. Besides, we’d better ride bikes or walk to school. It not only reduces pollution but also keeps us healthy. What’s more, remember to save water and electricity in daily life. For example, turn off the lights when we leave a room.

After school that day, the boys went to the cleaner. He looked at them, and without a word, he pointed to some buckets (桶) of water, soap and brushes.
The work took a long time. Whenever they thought they had cleaned enough, the cleaner would point out somewhere they had missed. But he never spoke.
