Passage 1
(2026·吉林长春德惠·一模)
Once there was a farmer who owned a farm near the ocean. It was difficult for him to do all the farm work alone. So he wanted to hire (雇佣) someone for help. But most people didn’t want to work on farms there because of the awful storms across the ocean.
One day, a middle-aged man called Robby came for an interview. On his way to the farm, he met a man who was carrying a heavy box, and he seemed very tired. So Robby just stopped and gave a hand. The man tried to pay for that, but Robby refused and said it was no big deal.
When Robby arrived, he found the farmer was just the man he helped. The farmer was surprised and he asked, “Are you good at farm work?” Robby answered, “Yes, I’ll try my best and I can even sleep when the wind blows.” The farmer didn’t understand what he meant, but he still hired him.
Robby started to work on the farm. Every day, he fed the cows and chickens, cleaned the farm and did everything he could. The farmer was satisfied with his work. One night, the wind blew strongly. When the farmer heard it, he jumped out of the bed and rushed into Robby’s room. He shouted, “Get up! Hurry! A storm is coming! We have to tie things up before the wind blows them away.” But Robby said, “No, sir, I’ve already told you I can sleep when the wind blows.”
The farmer was very angry and planned to fire (解雇) him from his job after the storm. He hurried outside to prepare for the storm.
Just then the farmer understood the man’s words. He was able to sleep well because he had done what he could to protect the farm from storms. When one is well prepared, he has nothing to fear.

Every summer, Serena spends two weeks at Green Farm’s horseback riding camp. Last year, Serena and her favorite horse Piper finished second in the obstacle course (障碍赛赛道) race.
“I can’t wait to ride Piper,” Serena told Rose, her coach. Rose advised Serena to ride Harley instead of Piper, because Piper, one of the best-behaved horses, is for new riders.
At first, Serena felt scared at the sight of Harley, the tallest horse, but she stayed hopeful. As she was trying to ride Harley, he threw Serena off.
“I’m scared of Harley. He’s too hard to control,” Serena told Rose.
“Harley is in a new place with a new person on his back,” Rose explained. “He’s pretty scared, too. But if you trust him, he will trust you.”
Serena decided that it was time for a fresh start. “I know you’re afraid of me. But we can become friends,” she talked to Harley softly. After a while, Harley calmed down, and Serena realized she was also feeling calmer. She then led Harley for a walk so that he could get used to being with her and following her directions.
Soon, Serena and Harley made progress together as their confidence in each other grew. By the end of the first week, they had completed the obstacle course together.
On the final day of the camp was the big race. Serena confidently climbed onto Harley. Harley, sensing the excitement, ran through the course like a madman and easily won. The other horses were just no match for Harley.

Passage 1
(2026·吉林长春·一模)
The couple, Gao Wandong and Chen Jing, have a lifelong task. Over the years, they have taken nearly 100,000 photos of the Great Wall and collected many historical objects. In 2017, they finally built a small museum to share their collections with the whole world.
The museum is in Yanchi, Ningxia. The Great Wall runs for 259 kilometers across deserts and hills there. The couple built the museum with borrowed money and a strong will. Inside the museum, visitors can not only see photos of the Great Wall but also admire old art pieces, and local history books that tell the Great Wall’s past stories.
Gao Wandong grew up near the Great Wall. As a child, he often hid in its tall watchtowers during sudden sandstorms. Years later, he realized these relics (遗迹) were gradually gone because of the natural forces and human activities. With the help of his wife, Gao began to study and record the Great Wall. Gao drove and took notes, while Chen took photos. What started as a hobby soon became a serious effort to spread the culture of the Great Wall. The couple wrote a book with 600 photos to describe the Great Wall’s beauty and history.
The museum has been open to the public for six years. Now it receives thousands of visitors every year, including researchers, students and the Great Wall lovers. The couple also hold photo fairs and educational activities in the museum.

A Window to the World : My Pen Pal in Kazakhstan
As part of a cultural exchange program inspired by the Belt and Road initiative (倡议), I was matched with a pen pal, Aruzhan, from Kazakhstan. This connection has opened a window to a world I knew little about.
Our exchange happens monthly via email. I write in English, and she courageously responds in a mix of English and Chinese she is diligently learning. Her letters paint vivid pictures of life on the vast Kazakh steppe, her family’s traditions, and national festivals like Nauryz. She describes the taste of Beshbarmak, a beloved dish, and the thrill of traditional horse riding games. In return, I share stories about my life in a Chinese megacity, explain the customs of the Mid-Autumn Festival, and sent her a small paper-cutting as a token of friendship.
This ongoing dialogue has been transformative (变革性的). It has moved our relationship beyond mere “pen pals” to genuine friends. Learning about her culture has not only broadened my horizons (视野) but has also allowed me to view and appreciate my own cultural background from a fresh and more grateful perspective. It’s a beautiful reminder of how shared curiosity can build bridges across continents.
根据短文内容,回答下列问题。
6.How did the writer get to know the pen pal?
7.In which languages do they communicate?
8.What aspect of Kazakh culture does Aruzhan describe in her letters?(Name one example)

Sally woke with a sudden movement. She heard strange sounds and she could smell smoke. The room was full of smoke. She coughed. What was happening? Her bedroom door opened with a bang and her mother ran in, her face white.
“Get up, Sally, we have to go! Get dressed now!” Her mother disappeared back into the house.
Sally jumped from her bed and opened the window. Screams and cries came from the streets below.
“Hey, what’s happening?” Sally yelled.
“Fire!” her neighbour shouted back.
“Coming from Pudding Lane! Get out now, Sally! No one is safe!”
Sally pulled her window shut and got changed as quickly as she could. Downstairs, she found her father, mother and sister jamming their things into a handcart. They watched people trying to put out the big fire with leather buckets (皮革桶) full of water. It didn’t seem to make any difference, as the fire jumped from one building to the next.
Tom Winter saw Sally and said, “Some people are going to St. Paul’s Cathedral to stay safe. Made of stone. Won’t burn like wood.” Sally nodded, but followed her parents down the dark street.

Passage 1
(2026·吉林长春力旺初级中学·校考)
Slagsvold and Wiebe both have spent years studying tits (山雀). These birds lay their eggs into holes in trees, walls and even human-made boxes.
“There are few holes to choose from, so there’s always great competition for them between tits,” Wiebe said. Even after a bird owns a hole, it has to keep alert (警惕的). There’s always a chance that another bird tries to own it. Some of them can stay in the nest to keep other birds away. But feeding their children is necessary work, and at last the birds have to leave to search for food. So Slagsvold and Wiebe started to look for other ways that the birds might use to protect their “home”.
The key turned out to be feathers (羽毛). Mostly feathers help the birds keep their nests warm. But in fact, they seem to have another use. They noticed tits would drop feathers on the top of the nest, rather than putting them in. “The feathers are white, and often easy to notice,” Wiebe said, “as if the birds are trying to send a message.”
Slagsvold and Wiebe decided to find out the feathers’ another use. They built nest boxes—some feathery, some not—in Europe and North America. The intruders (入侵者) entered feather-free boxes quickly. Black feathers made them less scared than white ones did. When they see white feathers, they usually stopped outside for an hour or more. A short delay (耽搁) can make a huge difference for the nest’s true owner. “Even 20 minutes can give the owner enough time to fly back and check in, and perhaps fight off their competitors,” Wiebe said.
根据短文内容,回答下列问题。
1.Why is there always great competition for holes between tits?
2.What is necessary work for tits?
3.According to the passage, what are the white feathers used for?
4.Where do tits drop the white feathers?

In most classes, students sit at desks and listen to teachers in a classroom. But in a new class at Chapman Middle School (CMS) in Kansas, the US, students are leaving the blackboards behind for blue skies and green grass.
They are actually taking an outdoor life class. It’s not a typical class, but teachers are trying it out.
“We want kids to experience the outdoors,” the class teacher, John Harris, said.
Twenty-six students attend the class for a whole term. The class includes four parts: archery (射箭), hunting safety, survival skills and fishing.
Before Harris’ class this year, archery teacher Andy Fewin taught a 9-week outdoor life class. All CMS students took it.
“It gets kids involved in something other than sitting and playing video games,” Fewin said. Harris shares the same idea. He believes everyone needs to enjoy life and get outside.
“The outdoor life class aims to get the kids interested in coming to school, really enjoying their class time and understanding the big picture,” Harris said.
But he said everyone needs to finish their other work first. “It really teaches them to focus and pay attention in class. If they don’t, then they’ll miss out on the fun things we’re doing,” he said.

7.How long will this class last?
8.What do students learn in outdoor life class?

I am an officer at a government agency. One day, a homeless man named Charlie drove his electric wheelchair into my office. His wheelchair was running out of power.
I pushed him around the office, looking for a place to charge (充电) his wheelchair. A woman noticed us and asked Charlie if his chair was dead and how long he had owned it.
He had owned it for three years. He didn’t have much money to replace the battery (更换电池). So he usually just pushed himself around using his right foot.
The woman, Diane, said that her brother was also disabled and that her family had an old wheelchair that they weren’t using. She asked Charlie if he would like it, Charlie said yes.
Diane left and came back about an hour later. She asked me to unload the new wheelchair. Though I didn’t know much about wheelchairs, I could tell that this wheelchair was nice.
Charlie liked it very much. But Diane told us there was one small problem. The wheelchair couldn’t be charged because it hasn’t been used in the past two years. We took it to a shop to get it working again. Before long, the wheelchair was repaired. Charlie got his new “legs” and thanked Diane for her generous (慷慨的,大方的) gift.

Moniqua might be the world’s most widely travelled hen. For the past several years, she has sailed (航行) around the world with Soudee, a French sailor (水手) who spoke to Week Junior about their journey.
Soudee’s trip began from Yvince, in the northwest of France. After working as a sailor and a fisherman, he saved up for two years and bought an old boat. After learning how to sail it, he set off alone. Before crossing the Atlantic Ocean, Soudee stopped in the Canary Islands. It was there that he met Monique. Soudee was given the chicken by some friends. “My plan was to have a hen to stay with and have fresh eggs,” he said. People had warned him that a hen wouldn’t lay eggs at sea because it would be too stressed. However, Monique laid an egg on her first day on the boat and then laid 25 eggs in 28 days. “Monique and I became very close. I talked to her every day and I knew she understood me,” Soudee said.
Soudee and Monique finally finished their 5,000-mile journey around the world in December 2018. Monique was the perfect travel partner. However, there were some scary moments on the trip. They met 13-metre waves (海浪) near Antarctica (南极) and were stuck in the ice on Greenland for 130 days. Soudee couldn’t fish because of the ice, and he said Monique’s eggs saved him.

(2026·吉林长春南关·联考)

3.根据“the birds might use to protect their ‘home’.”“Mostly feathers help the birds keep their nests warm”“as if the birds are trying to send a message”可知它们用羽毛保护它们的巢穴,用来保暖,用来发送信息。故填(For) Protecting their nests/Sending a message (and keeping their nests warm).
4.根据“They noticed tits would drop feathers on the top of the nest”可知山雀会把白色羽毛掉落在巢穴的顶部。故填On the top of the nest.

(2026·吉林长春·联考)
