Ahh...ahhh...aaahhhchooo! That sneeze is uncovered, and so the germs (细菌) fly through the air. Germs are alive, and they can cause us to get sick. It is impossible to keep germs out of our bodies. They are so tiny that we do not even know they are coming inside our bodies. The only way we know that germs have made us sick is when we begin to feel symptoms (症状). We might get a fever or a sore throat. We might have a runny nose or a headache.
___45___Germs are usually spread through the air. They come out in a sneeze, a cough, or a breath. They can also be spread by saliva (唾液), sweat (汗), or blood. Sometimes, they come from touching something. For example, a person can touch his or her nose and then touch a doorknob. If someone else touches that doorknob right away, he or she can pick up those germs.
___46___How can you protect yourself from germs? The most important way to do this is to wash your hands. Soap and water are germs’ enemies. They wash the germs away. This is why it is so important to wash your hands throughout the day. But a quick splash (飞溅) will not work. Hands should be washed for about twenty seconds.
___47___Staying healthy also keeps germs away. This means getting enough rest and not being too tired. It also means having good foods and exercising. These are germ-fighting secrets!

Scene: Forrest is on a bench (长椅) at a bus stop, talking to a woman sitting next to him.
FORREST
(softly, with a little Southern accent (口音)) I’m not a clever man, but I know what love is. My mom always said, “Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you will get.” That’s true. I’ve had lots of different things in my life. Some were good, and some were not so good.
I remember the first time I met Jenny. She was the prettiest girl I had ever seen. We were on the school bus. All the other kids were laughing at me because I had to wear braces (支架) on my legs. But Jenny said, “You can sit here if you want.” And that was the start of a nice friendship.
JENNY
(kindly) Forrest, you’re not like the other boys. You’re special.
FORREST
I was just myself. But Jenny made me feel like I was something better. She always took care of me. Like that time when some bad kids were running after me. Jenny shouted, “Run, Forrest, run!” And I did. I ran so fast that I left my braces behind.
I’ve been to many places. I went to college because of a football scholarship (奖学金). I played football really well and even got to meet the President (总统). Then I went to Vietnam (越南). It was really scary there. The guns were loud, and there was danger everywhere. But I made some good friends. Bubba was my best friend. He taught me everything about catching shrimp (虾). We planned to start a shrimp business together after the war, but he died in Vietnam. I was so sad, but I still tried to make our dream come true. I bought a shrimp boat, but it was old and needed a lot of fixing. The first few times I went out to catch shrimp, I came back with almost nothing. People around me said I was wasting my time. But I didn’t listen. I kept working on the boat, learning more about the sea and where the shrimp were. Slowly, my shrimp business got better and better.

Plastic is all around us in our daily lives. From the lunch boxes and drinking bottles we use every day to the furniture (家具) in our homes and the clothes we wear, plastic has become a very important material for making many everyday things. It brings us much convenience, but it also causes a big environmental problem.
When these plastic things are no longer useful and we throw them away, many of them sadly end up in the seas. Ordinary plastic lasts for a very long time and takes hundreds of years to break down. This has caused the growing problem of plastic pollution in our oceans. It is dangerous to sea animals and the whole ecosystem.
To fix this problem, biodegradable (可生物降解的) plastics were introduced. People thought these plastics could be a good way out because they can break down by themselves. But then, a new problem came up. In the sea, they can’t break down completely. Instead, they break down into very small pieces called microplastics. These microplastics are so small that fish, birds, and other sea animals often eat them. Once inside their bodies, the microplastics can do a lot of harm, from hurting them inside to stopping their normal body functions (功能).
Luckily, recently, scientists at the RIKEN Centre for Emergent Matter Science in Japan have made a great discovery. They invented a new kind of plastic. This new plastic is great because, different from other biodegradable plastic, it can fully dissolve (溶解) in salty seawater. Once it dissolves, it breaks into separate things, and then the small living things in seawater can break it down completely. Studies show that in seawater, it can break down in just a few hours, and in soil, it takes about 10 days.
▲ It has other good points, too. It does no harm, and when it is burned, the gas it gives off won’t hurt the environment. Also, it can become hard or be made into different shapes at temperatures above 120℃, so it can be used to make all kinds of things. Takuzo Aida, the leader of the research, said the new plastic is “strong and can be used again”, and can be used in many ways, like replacing single-use plastics. Joaquin Martinez Urreaga, from Polytechnic University of Madrid, called the idea “a wonderful product to fight against ocean pollution”. However, there are still some challenges to overcome.
52. What is the problem with biodegradable plastics in the sea?
A. They can’t break down at all. B. They break down too quickly.
C. They break down into harmful microplastics. D. They cause pollution when burned.
53. What are the characteristics of the newly-invented plastic?
①It fully breaks down in salty seawater.
②It is helpful to soil.
③The gas it produces when burned won’t pollute the environment.
④It can be made hard or shaped into different forms at high temperatures.
A. ①②③ B. ①③④ C. ②③④ D. ①②④
54. Which sentence can be put in the ▲ ?
A. This new plastic is inexpensive to produce.
B. The newly-invented plastic has some disadvantages.
C. The new plastic is difficult to shape as we want.
D. The new plastic doesn’t just solve the microplastic problem.
55. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A. The Harm of Plastic B. Traditional Plastic and Biodegradable Plastic
C. A New Solution to Plastic Pollution Problem D. The Process of Making New Plastic
D
①China is famous for having the best high-speed train network in the world. Now, a new train called CR450 is breaking speed records!
②CR450 can go very fast, with an average speed of 400 km/h and a top speed of 453 km/h. Before this, the fastest high-speed train in a rail network in the world is China’s CR400, which runs at 350 km/h on average. Once put into use, for example, the CR450 will shorten the travel time from Beijing to Shanghai to just about two and a half hours, which takes at least four and a half hours at the moment.
③“The key is not to make the train run fast but to have it brake (刹车) accurately (精确地) and steadily (平稳地),” Zhao Hongwei of the China Academy of Railway Sciences told CCTV News. It travels a lot faster, but the standard is that the CR450 should have the same brake distance (距离) as the CR400, which is 6,500 meters. It can also start braking more quickly, taking just 1.7 seconds compared to the 2.3 seconds needed for the CR400.
④Engineers tested the brakes a lot to make sure they work well. In the tests, the brake disc (制动盘) got really hot, reaching temperatures of up to 700℃. Its color changed from black to red. The changes were then recorded. All the data were saved in a smart system to make a digital (数字的) model of the brake system.
⑤CR450 is also lighter and uses less energy than CR400 besides having a faster speed and better braking system, according to CCTV News. This means that the CR450 uses less fuel or power to run, which is good for the environment because it reduces pollution. And a lighter train also needs less energy to move, so it can travel farther on the same amount of fuel.
⑥With all these advantages, people are very excited to see this new train and experience its speed and comfort. China’s high-speed train network is truly impressive (给人印象深刻的), and the CR450 is just another example of its greatness, carrying people’s great expectations.
56. How much time will the CR450 save for the journey from Beijing to Shanghai?
A. One hour. B. Two hours. C. Three hours. D. Four hours.
57. What does the underlined word “This” refer to?
A. CR450 has a faster speed and better braking system.
B. CR450 increases pollution.
C. CR450 is lighter and uses less energy.
D. CR450 can travel farther.
58. What can we infer from the passage?
A. Trains with a speed of 453 km/h are already common on most Chinese railways.
B. More high-speed train technologies may be developed on CR450.
C. The CR450 will mainly be used on long-distance routes.
D. Engineers performed many tests on the brakes to be sure they work fine.
59. Which is the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.

Nowadays, teenagers’ consumption concepts (消费观) and lifestyles are changing quietly. With the development of society, teenagers no longer buy expensive things blindly. Instead, they are paying more attention to the value for money of products. This new way of consumption is called reverse (反向的) consumption, which actually encourages people not to waste money.
While traditional consumption always makes people buy the new expensive products, reverse consumption leads people to think about the quality of products. This has become popular among teenagers and influenced their buying decisions in all areas. After all, teenagers don’t make money by themselves, and they have to ask their parents for money. So they should think twice about what they are going to buy.
More and more teenagers have begun to care about the harm of blind consumption to the environment. They have realized that blind consumption not only causes waste, but also causes environmental pollution. So, they are trying to reduce its influence on the environment through this new way of consumption. They’re choosing products that are environmentally friendly.
What’s more, reverse consumption is influencing people’s understanding of a better life. Young people value their own satisfaction more than the price of products, and they believe that a meaningful life can be achieved through reverse consumption. In the 1950s, when China began the challenging journey of developing nuclear submarines (核潜艇). Huang Xuhua stepped up fearlessly. It was such a difficult task in China at that time. However, he and his team accepted the challenge. To keep the project secret, they cut off the connection with the outside world, even from their families. Huang Xuhua had to be away from his hometown for years.
During the process, they met lots of challenges. Creating a nuclear reactor (反应堆), for example, was extremely difficult. China didn’t have the technology and materials for such a project, and other countries kept their technology secret. They needed to depend on their own research. Without computers, they could only use simple tools like abacuses (算盘) and rules. Another key problem was making sure the submarine’s underwater stability (稳定性). Through countless tests, they finally achieved success.
In the 1970s, China’s first nuclear submarine was successfully built and tested, making China one of the few countries in the world with this technology. Since she was not helpful, I looked around at the customers. There, ____37____ nearby, were four of the strongest men I had ever seen in my life. Chains, Black leather (皮革), Skulls (头盖骨) and crossbones (交叉骨).
I immediately thought of my family in the car and what these men might do to us.

____39____ I could say no, they got up, paid their bill, and were outside on their motorcycles, gesturing (打手势), “____40____ us!”
We started to follow them down the dark and quiet country roads.

Before“在……

A. B. C. D.
【答案】45. A 46. D 47. B

FORREST

I remember the first time I met Jenny. She was the prettiest girl I had ever seen. We were on the school bus. All the other kids were laughing at me because I had to wear braces (支架) on my legs. But Jenny said, “You can sit here if you want.” And that was the start of a nice friendship.
JENNY

【答案】52. C 53. B 54. D 55. C

A. B. C. D.
【答案】56. B 57. C 58. B 59. D
