(A)
She wants to be a singer; you think she should go for a long-term career with job security and eventually retire with a good pension. But a new report suggests that in fact she’s the practical one. Why do parents make terrible career advisers?
Today’s 14 and 15-year-olds are ambitious. They are optimistic about their prospects, but their career ideas are rather vague. Although 80% of them have no intention of following in their parents’ footsteps, 69% still turn to their parents for advice. They look at their working future in a different way to their parents. A job for life is not in their vocabulary; neither is a dead-end but secure job that is boring but pays the bills.
In the past, this might have counted as bad news. Certainly, when I was 15, my guidance counselors were horrified at my plans to become a writer. I’m glad I didn’t change my plans to suit them. But the world has changed. The global economy is not kind to yesterday’s diligent and dependable worker. The future belongs to quick-thinking people who are resourceful, ambitious, and can take the initiative. This means it is not necessarily unrealistic that a 14-year-old sees her working future as a kind of adventure to be made up as she goes along.
However, she has to have the training and guidance to help her develop the right skills for today’s market. Many young people perceive that redundancy(冗余), downsizing, and freelancing are all part of modern working life, but no one is telling them how they might be able to turn the new rules of the employment game to their advantage. This is what they need to know if they are to make a life for themselves.
So what is to be done? A good first step would be to transform the way in which schools prepare young people for adult life. The education system is becoming less flexible and sticks more to traditional skills at just the time that the job market is going in the opposite direction.
What, then, can we as parents do to help them? The best thing is to forget all the advice that your parents gave you, and step into your teenager’s shoes. Give them the courage to follow their dreams, however odd they might sound right now. In a world that offers economic security to almost no one, ambition is a terrible thing to waste.
66. What does the underlined word “vague” in Paragraph 2 most probably mean?
A. Clear and specific
B. Uncertain and unclear
C. Firm and determined
D. Creative and inspiring
67. Which of the following can be inferred from the passage?

B. The global economy now favors workers who can adapt and take action actively.
C. Guidance counselors’ opposition to unusual career plans is unreasonable in all cases.
D. Most parents’ career advice is outdated because they ignore the value of job security.
68. According to the passage, what is the core problem of the current education system?
A. It overemphasizes traditional skills while the job market demands more adaptability.
B. It provides too much practical training that conflicts with teenagers’ career dreams.
C. It fails to teach students how to deal with redundancy and freelancing in work.
D. It is too rigid to help students develop the courage to pursue unstable careers.
69. What is the author’s advice to parents?
A. Encourage teenagers to follow traditional career paths.
B. Share their own career experiences and advice freely.

Today’s music often lacks real instruments and meaningful lyrics. Cinemas are filled with endless remakes, sequels, and superhero films. After a wave of great TV dramas in the 2000s, every shiny new show is praised as a “must-see”, though most are just average. Algorithms (算法) have defeated imagination, making much of modern culture feel repetitive.
Middle-aged people may especially agree with these complaints. There seems to be a confusing excess of art, yet little of it is truly original or striking. Leaders change, and crises come and go, but top stars remain unchanged for years. W. David Marx’s sharp new book Blank Space complains about this “noisy stagnation (停滞)”—a culture that feels busy but lacks real progress. Marx makes a strong argument, but he is too negative.
Marx points out that money is one of the culprits. The idea of pop stars “selling out” has disappeared, and financial success is the ultimate measure of value. Different music styles have been squeezed into “polished, marketable pop”, and fame now depends more on business sense and boldness than real talent—just look at the rise of Paris Hilton and similar celebrities. Reality TV has worsened this trend: “Culture has become a battle for attention, catering to the lowest common taste.”
Technology also plays a key role. The internet started as a playground for culture lovers, creating viral hits like Gangnam Style and youth stars. But later, it devolved into a trap of conspiracy theories (阴谋论) and lies, reducing much of online culture to short-lived entertainment and harmful content.
Yet Marx’s view oversimplifies complex reality. Similar criticisms existed in the past—attention-seeking people are not new; only the ways of self-promotion have changed. There has always been more bad art than good: time filters out the worst, leaving classics like great films or timeless novels. Marx also wrongly sees the lasting popularity of bands like the Beatles as a sign of “stagnation”—some works are just better, and their wide enjoyment today is a glory of modern culture, not a problem. While 21st-century culture has its flaws, it’s too early to dismiss its value.
73. What does the underlined word “culprits” in Paragraph 3 most probably mean?
A. Solutions B. Causes C. Results D. Examples
74. Which of the following can be inferred from the passage?
A. Most 21st-century TV dramas fail to live up to the praise they receive.
B. The internet’s positive impact on culture has been completely replaced by its harms.
C. The proportion of good art to bad art is lower now than in any previous era.
D. Paris Hilton’s fame largely stems from her unique artistic contributions.
75. According to Marx, why does 21st-century culture lack real progress?
A. Artists are in short supply of financial support.
B. Algorithms and technology are over-relied on.
C. Crises hinder cultural creation.
D. Traditional art forms have disappeared.
76. What is the author’s attitude towards Marx’s view?
A. Fully supportive.
B. Partly agreeing but critical.
C. Completely opposed.
D. Neutral and uninterested.
Section C (6%)
Directions: Read the following passage. Fill in each blank with a proper sentence given below. Each sentence can be used only once. Note that there are two more sentences than you need.
A. AI companions bring tangible benefits.
B. They enable AI to mimic human emotions, show empathy, and remember personal details of users.

D. This emerging industry offers great potential but requires careful balance.

The Emerging Industry of AI Companions: Opportunities and Risks
A new industry centered on AI companions is rapidly taking shape, bringing profound impacts on society and the very definition of human connection. Across the globe, more people are forming bonds with AI entities—whether as virtual friends, mentors, therapists, or romantic partners.
This trend has been driven by advances in large language models (LLMs). ________77___________ Dedicated apps like Character.AI and China’s Maoxiang boast millions of monthly active users, while even productivity tools like ChatGPT are being customized into ideal companions. These AIs offer 24/7 availability, unconditional support, and personalized interactions that real-life relationships often lack, appealing to groups like young people, the elderly, and those with limited social opportunities.
________78___________ Studies show they can temporarily alleviate loneliness more effectively than other online activities, help improve communication skills, and provide an outlet for emotional venting. For the disabled and elderly, they serve as accessible companions, while some users credit them with enhancing their real-life relationships.
However, significant risks persist. _________79_________ AI’s tendency to cater to users’ desires can foster unrealistic expectations of real relationships and even enable harmful thoughts through blind agreement. Teenagers and those with mental health issues are particularly vulnerable, leading to calls for stricter safeguards. Additionally, users face risks from sudden app updates that alter AI personalities and from potential privacy violations as they share sensitive information.
As regulators step up scrutiny(审查) and firms introduce protective measures, AI companions are expanding into hardware like smart toys and elderly care robots. ________80__________: making full use of its benefits while reducing risks to ensure it enriches rather than diminishes human connection.
