Siberian tigers (西伯利亚虎), also known as Amur tigers, mainly live in eastern Russia, Northeast China, and the northern part of the Korean Peninsula. At the beginning of the 20th century, Siberian tigers were widely found in Northeast China. However, the tigers disappeared from the area for different reasons in the 1970s. They are on China’s first-class protection list.
In order to protect Siberian tigers, China has been taking action. In Northeast China and Leopard National Park in Jilin and Heilongjiang Provinces, a high-tech system(高科技系统) has been used to provide real-time(实时的) protection for the plants and animals. The system has taken more than 4,000 pictures of Siberian tigers and Amur leopards, according to Hou Ling, director of the park’s office. Besides, some people would like to join the teams to protect wild tigers. Dong Hongyu, the 55-year-old from Heilongjiang, has been working to protect Siberian tigers for 22 years. Although it was difficult sometimes, this protector never thought about giving up.
Luckily, all these efforts have paid off. Now there are more than sixty Siberian tigers in our country. More importantly, the survival rate of young Siberian tigers has increased from 33 percent in 2016 to 50 percent now.
Not only Siberian tigers but also many other kinds of endangered animals have been protected. Over the past tens of years, China has made great achievements in wildlife protection. One of the most successful examples is the giant panda. The population of the wild giant panda has grown from 1,114 in the 1970s to over 1,864 now.
China will continue to protect wildlife. In the next five years, China will build more protected areas for wildlife and improve their living places. Special scientific research will also be done on endangered animals, including giant pandas and Siberian tigers.

Riding a bike has become popular in the past three years. This has developed the bike business a lot. For example, in 2019, the sales of bikes were £4 billion in the UK. However, sales in the country had an increase of £2.56 billion in 2021, setting a new record. And the UK is expecting another record year for 2026.
As one of the easiest means of transportation, riding a bike is certainly good exercise. Also, in times of rising fuel (燃料)prices and terrible COVID-19, more people want to use bikes instead of private cars or public transportation. It’s no wonder that new innovations in bikes always appear. The following are two bike trends (趋势)for the year 2026.
It’s reported that about 150,000 bikes get lost every year. So the need for a good lock is becoming greater. The latest lock can be opened through an app. The mobile phone is the key. Through Bluetooth, the U-lock opens when the owner goes near the bike. If a stranger moves the bike, the lock will make a loud alarm sound. By the way, the lock can also be opened for family members through the app.
As more and more people use bikes, they often put a bike bag on the bike to carry things. But what will they do with the bike bag when they finish their ride? Not long ago, two 17-year-old high school students named Karl and Leander showed their special bike bag. When the bike ride is over, it’s very easy to turn the bike bag into a backpack and continue running with it on your back. It’s really cool and useful.
Riding a bike seems to be a trend both in cities and in the countryside. And there will be more innovations to make the ride enjoyable.
27. What were the sales of bikes in the UK in 2021?
A. £6.56 billion B. £6 billion C. £4 billion D. £2.56 billion
28. What does the underlined word “ innovations” probably mean in Chinese?

A. It costs a lot to drive. B. COVID-19 is over.
C. Riding is good for your health. D. It is easy to ride a bike.
30. Which of the following is TRUE about the U-lock according to the passage?

C. It can’t be opened through an app.
D. It can’t be opened for a family member.

As one of the easiest means of transportation, riding a bike is certainly good exercise.
