根据InfoBooks部分中的“The third section contains resources to improve your reading.”
根据Project Gutenberg部分中的“It is considered the world's first and oldest digital library that
drives the creation and distribution of ebooks.”
本文开篇点明“Today more than ever, free virtual libraries are necessary.”,随后分述四个免费
根据第二段“Although he had not planned to study abroad,Joey recognized that opportunities like
CBYX are rare,so he decided to apply..”
第三段指出“he persisted in his language studies and fully immersed(沉浸)himself in his host
26.C推理判断题。第三段指出“he persisted in his language studies'”,面对起初的语言不自信坚持全身心的投入;
第五段指出“he challenged himself to leave his comfort zone”,主动尝试篮球、踢拳等全新活动,展现出坚定的意
本文开篇即由德美官方指出“proud to recognize Joey DiPalma as.Participant of the Month”,确
结尾引用Joey的感悟“CBYX is not just a year abroad..learning how to be a true adult'”,进一步升华其成长收获。
根据第三段“The LLMs create a force which drives essay writing away from any standard which a
human writer would create, according to her observation that she used to describe the effect which makes writing
dull.”
根据第五段“AI systems perform extensive text rewrites which change original text meaning instead
of making minor text corrections..”
根据末段“According to Florida State University Computational Linguistics Professor Thomas
Juzek, the study demonstrates how AI tools provide more capabilities than basic grammar assessment.”可知,Juzek明
确指出A!
That's where a clever new wheelchair comes in,which can address that problem in a
brilliant way,by using a moveable backrest(座椅靠背)to steer.”
根据前文“They had done many trips in the area before'”可知,他们曾在这个地区多次登山,因
根据文章首句中“Jean Muenchrath and her boyfriend went mountaineering”可知,文中只有
根据前文提到“life-threatening injuries'”(重伤)和后文“Two days had passed since her fall..”
根据后文“Seeing Muenchrath's48,he ran over to help”可知,司机停下车来帮忙。
根据“reassuring her that she would be OK.”可知,reassuring(安慰)体现善意,因此是轻柔地
根据后文“.make52 for Muenchrath and her boyfriend”可知,男子先卸下(unpacked)车内
根据“he51 his car and his wife offered to stay in the lot with their baby”可知,男子卸下车内
根据“Nearly45 years later,Muenchrath still thinks of the man and his family”和“she will always be
thankful for their selfless help.”
故填a。
precisely
59.on/upon考查介词。reflect on/upon sth.
64.that/which考查定语从句。
Because it is rooted in..,又因为在句首,故填Rooted。

Rohan walked toward Mrs.Sharma's desk, hands sweating slightly."Mrs.Sharma,I...I found a mistake in my
paper."He pointed to Question 7,his eyes fixed on the paper."This answer is wrong, but you gave me full marks.I
should only get 93."The classroom fell silent for a moment.Mrs.Sharma examined the paper carefully, and then looked
up at him with surprise."You're right,Rohan.I missed this error."She adjusted the score on his paper, writing 93
instead of 95."I'm proud of you,Rohan, she said softly, her eyes warm with approval.
Back at his seat with the corrected paper,Rohan was surprised by his classmates'reaction.Instead of feeling sorry for
him,Aarav clapped him on the shoulder, and other students nodded in admiration, some even whispering words of praise.
The 93 points now felt heavier yet lighter-though he'd given up the top spot, his heart was at peace.Mrs.Sharma praised
his honesty in front of the whole class, calling it "the most valuable score".Rohan realized that true success isn't
measured by ranks or scores. It's the integrity to admit mistakes, and he gained far more precious self-respect that day.

M:Well, first the host showed how plastic pollution is affecting marine life. Then two experts gave their suggestions on
how to reduce plastic waste.
W:What were their ideas?
M:One expert suggested developing environmentally friendly materials to replace traditional plastics.
W:That might work, but are these materials really environmentally friendly?I heard some of them don't break down as
easily as claimed.
M:You're right. The program also mentioned that. The other expert proposed improving recycling systems and educating
the public about proper recyeling.
W:That seems more practical. But doesn't it require a lot of effort from both the government and individuals?
M:Exactly. Each solution has its strengths and weaknesses. It looks like we need a combination of approaches.
Text 10
Hello, everyone!I want to tell you about something cool I just found out.You know how chemistry class can feel a bit...
abstract sometimes?Well,Mr.Davis is starting a new workshop next term called "Chemistry in the Kitchen".
The whole idea is to learn real science by doing everyday things, like baking or cooking.Basically,we get to do
interesting experiments. If your experiment works, you get to eat it.It's perfect for anyone who's curious, and you
definitely don't need to be excellent in science. It's aimed at beginners.Just be prepared for some mess-it comes with
experimenting in the kitchen, but it's worth it!The workshop will meet every Thursday after school, from 4:00 p.m.to
5:30 p.m.,starting on September 10th.I'm really thinking about signing up.It sounds like a much more delicious way to
learn than just reading a textbook.
So,if you're interested in food, science,or just want to try something new, maybe check it out with me.We could go
together.Anyway, that's my little announcement.Let me know if you want to join too!

What happens when humans rely too much on artificial intelligence (Al)to write for them?
A new study by researchers from a coalition (of West Coast universities suggests that heavy
use of AI writing tools may not just change how people write, but also what they say and how they
think.
The research evaluation used responses from 100 participants who had to write essays about
the relationship between money and happiness.Researchers discovered that study participants who
depended on large language models (LLMs)for their work produced results which showed major
differences from the outcomes of those who used no artificial intelligence.Participants who
depended heavily on AI were 69%more likely to give neutral answers compared to others.People
who created written work without AI tools showed higher degrees of personal judgement than those
who used AI tools.
The research demonstrated that AI-generated content showed more formal style while it
lacked emotional depth. The results which University of Washington computer science professor
Natasha Jaques studied demonstrate an underlying issue that extends beyond the current findings.
The LLMs create a force which drives essay writing away from any standard which a human writer
would create, according to her observation that she used to describe the effect which makes
writing dull.
Heavy AI users produced essays which were less personal because they used general
expressions instead of specific personal details. Many participants also admitted their work felt less
creative and less like their own voice, even though their satisfaction with the final output remained
similar.
Researchers observed that Al editing tools produce larger editing results than human editors.
Al systems perform extensive text rewrites which change original text meaning instead of making
minor text corrections.
The discovery establishes fundamental research enquiries regarding artificial intelligence's
future impact on human communication and artistic expression.According to Florida State
University Computational Linguistics Professor Thomas Juzek, the study demonstrates how Al tools
provide more capabilities than basic grammar assessment.

D.Confused.
30.What do we know about Al editing tools from the text?
A.They may change writers'original ideas.
B.They mainly focus on small grammar mistakes.
C.They are not as professional as human editors.
D.They rarely make large-scale revisions to articles.
31.Which of the following statements would Juzek agree with?
A.AI reduces research workload.
B.Human editing remains irreplaceable.

Steering (a wheelchair to the left or right can be a tough, inefficient process,in that
you have to brake with one back wheel while pushing harder on the other. Not only does doing so
use up a large amount of energy,it also places a lot of stress on the user's shoulders, arms and
hands.
That's where a clever new wheelchair comes in,which can address that problem in a brilliant
way,by using a moveable backrest(座椅靠背)to steer. The new wheelchair is being developed
by Reto Togni and Stefan Villiger, both of whom are research assistants at ETH Zurich's
Laboratory for Movement Biomechanics.
The chair's user is able to tilt its backrest to the left or right simply by leaning their
body appropriately.A purely mechanical linkage system responds by turning the front wheels into
the target direction, and keeping them from getting away from that direction. It feels even better
that the system left the user's arms free,so one arm could be used to move the chair forward while
the other could be used to hold a smartphone,a coffee cup or something else.
In a test of the technology, the scientists had 29 volunteers make six constant runs through an
obstacle course, first in a regular wheelchair and then in the new one.Sensors in the back drive
wheels of both chairs showed that the participants used considerably less energy when using the
backrest-controlled wheelchair. It was even found that when simply moving straight forward, the
new chair allowed the participants to go faster than they could in the traditional chair, but with
less effort."There are so many moments when we're practically swept off our feet by the
unexpected advantages it offers,"says Togni.
Togni and Villiger are now commercializing their chair through ETH Zurich spinoff company
Versive. They hope to have a product on the market by mid-2027.
32.What is the key issue addressed by the new wheelchair design?
A.The inability to move straight forward.
B.The difficulty of anticipating a sharp turn
C.The great energy consumption during steering.
D.The complexity of the mechanical linkage system.
33.How did the scientists conduct the research?
A.By interviewing the participants.
B.By riding the new wheelchair in person.
C.By tracking the course of the new wheelchair.
D.By making comparison test on the new design and the regular one.

As adulthood approaches,we need to develop independence in every aspect of our lives so
that we can earn a living,develop a career,be emotionally mature,and form a personal
philosophy.Outlined here are four reasons why achieving independence is essential.
Being independent is a boost to your confidence.
36 The more independent you are,the more confident you will become.Having
confidence gives you a positive outlook on life. You are going to be willing to do things on your
own, without needing support or approval from others.

independently.People who rely heavily on others for support are often seen as needy and
demanding.38
You can get freedom through financial independence.
Nothing compares to receiving that first pay packet and knowing that at last, you can begin to
pay your way in the world.Having financial independence is a fantastic feeling.39 Knowing
you are in control of your income and spending without referring to anyone else reduces stress and
improves your feeling of contentedness.
Independence leads to broader horizons.
Once you can function as an independent person without restrictions placed on you by others,
you can broaden your horizons. You will be able to take trips to exotic (destinations,
meet people with different social and moral beliefs, and gain more extensive knowledge.40
It might affect the way you approach decision-making,or,on a simpler level, change your
attitude to food.
A.You will not need to rely on others.
B.Stress is reduced, and we become happier.
C.Being independent makes you a better decision-maker.
D.These are not attractive features in someone's personality.
E.It means that you don't have to depend on others to pay for you.
F.In turn, this will change how you view many aspects of your life.

Rohan was not the kind of student who usually ranked first in class. He worked hard,
completed his assignments on time, and respected his teachers, but there was always someone
who scored slightly higher. He never complained, though. His father often reminded him,"Marks
matter, but honesty matters more."Rohan believed that-or so he thought.
Then came the day when the math exam results were announced. The classroom buzzed with
nervous whispers. Some students prayed silently, while others tapped their pencils anxiously.
When Mrs.Sharma began calling out names,Rohan's heart raced. He had studied extremely hard
and hoped for a satisfying score.
"Rohan,"Mrs.Sharma called. He stepped forward and took his paper with trembling hands.
Glancing at the top,he froze:95 out of 100-the highest score he had ever achieved. His best
friend Aarav, who usually topped the class, had only scored 93.Disbelief washed over him.
"Well done,Rohan!You deserve it,"Aarav smiled sincerely.Rohan forced a smile,yet he
felt uneasy.Checking his paper carefully,he spotted a careless calculation mistake in Question 7.
He clearly remembered being unsure about that answer. But Mrs.Sharma had given him full
marks.
His fingers tightened around the paper."No one will notice,a small voice inside him
whispered."Just two points.You worked hard anyway."Another voice insisted,"But it's wrong."
If he told the truth, his marks would drop to 93 and he would lose the first place. For a
moment,he imagined going home and showing his parents the 95.They would be so proud. His
father might even bring sweets to celebrate. But his heart felt heavy.
He recalled a time when his father had returned extra change that a shopkeeper had given
him by mistake."Son,"he told Rohan that day,"wealth gained without honesty never brings
peace.'
Rohan stared at his exam paper again. The number "95"no longer brought him excitement,
only guilt.Slowly,he rose,legs trembling.
