I'm lisa from grade nine is my great honour to share with you a meaningful experience. Last week, all of us in grade nine took part in a special activity to help make our city cleaner and Greener. Before we started, our teacher gave us a lesson on why environmental protection matters and what we could do. Then we went to the city park with our classmates. Some of us picked up the rubbish from the ground, some helped plant trees, and a few of us even talked to the visitors face to face, sharing the importance of living a Green life. Although we felt tired after the hard work, we were very happy from what we did. I know small acts can make a big difference, so my dear school mates, if everyone works together, we'll make the earth Green again. thanks. Good morning, everyone. Growing up in the countryside of Kenya, my mother, Bertha Ngumbi, repeated the same words daily: “Education is your only way to have a better life.” At first, my four sisters, my brothers and I refused, preferring childhood games to studies. But she kept on making us study-when we forgot homework, she punished us seriously. I remember at age 10, after being punished, I even wished she would fall ill so that she’d stop being so hard on us.
Her strictness came from her hard life. She and my father were workers, making only $200 a month, and they worked tirelessly. Before sunrise, we’d work on our small farm; after school, we’d cook and study in the weak light of an oil lamp. The most painful memory is seeing them return from town—exhausted for using up all of their energy and hungry for having spent nothing on food to save more money for our schooling. “I could never eat while knowing you needed books,” she later told me.
Her efforts greatly influenced us. My eldest brother Kennedy became a business owner; I made a Ph.D.; my sisters entered teaching and healthcare. When I asked why she never gave up, she explained, “I saw something in you-you are always wise and hard-working.”
Today, though I’m a scientist thousands of miles away, her lessons remain. Every phone call still ends with her strict, loving reminder, “Are you working hard?” Though I once was angry with her strictness, I understand now it was love in its simplest form. Her efforts gave us wings-and for that, this daughter will forever be thankful.
24. Why did the children sometimes wish their mother would fall ill?
A. They hated her strictness.
B. They wanted her to have a rest.
C. They thought she worked too hard.
25. What does the underlined word “exhausted” mean in paragraph 2?
A. Rather angry. B. Very tired. C. Quite worried.
26. How were the children’s lives when they became adults?
A. They stayed in their hometown.
B. They all became famous scientists.
C. They achieved success in different jobs.
27. What lesson can we learn from the passage?
A. No pain, no gain.
B. Practice makes perfect.
C. East or west, home is best.

Hunan Cuisine (菜肴), also known as Xiang Cuisine, is one of the eight great traditions of Chinese cuisines. More than just food, it carries the history of Hunan province and its rich culture.
With a long history, Hunan Cuisine began to take shape during the Han Dynasty and became more popular in the Ming and Qing dynasties. The warm and wet weather in Hunan led local people to develop special ways to keep food good for longer, such as smoking meat. Also, the special weather has influenced people’s eating habits for centuries. Hunan cooks use plenty of chili peppers and spices (香料), which is why the cuisine is famous for its hot and heavy tastes. A perfect example is Spicy Crayfish (小龙虾), a favorite across China. But Hunan dishes are more than just hot-they skillfully balance five tastes: sour, sweet, bitter, spicy and salty. Interestingly, the cuisine also shapes the character of Hunan people. Like their food, they are known for their bravery and energy in the face of difficulties.
Many other Hunan dishes are worth mentioning. Stinky Tofu, for example, has a strong smell but a delicious taste, which is often served fried with a hot sauce. Steamed Fish Head full of red and green chili peppers makes people’s mouths water with just one look. Jinshi Beef Noodles are famous for their rich soup and beef, making them a local favorite. The list goes on and on…
Today, Hunan Cuisine is enjoyed around the world. While keeping traditional methods alive, cooks are also exploring new ways of cooking. Special TV programs have further helped to protect and share this wonderful cuisine.
28. When did Hunan Cuisine begin to take shape?
A. During the Han Dynasty.
B. In the Tang and Ming dynasties.
C. In the Ming and Qing dynasties.
29. Why is warm and wet weather in Hunan mentioned in Para. 2?
A. To describe the character of Hunan people.
B. To explain the reason for using chili peppers.
C. To show different kinds of good food in Hunan.
30. What are Jinshi Beef Noodles famous for?
A. Strong smell. B. Hot sauce. C. Rich soup and beef.
31. How is Hunan Cuisine developing today?

C. It keeps traditions while trying new ways.

The Scottish islands of Orkney are a popular tourist place. It is famous for its breathtaking views and ancient places like Skara Brae and the Ring of Brodgar. Every year, many visitors are drawn here, which brings money to local businesses. However, every coin has two sides. Tourism also causes problems for the small island. The tourists create a lot of rubbish, polluting the beautiful beaches and ancient paths. This means that the locals have to pay a lot to clean up and look after the basic services. The Orkney government has come up with a way to solve these problems. They are asking visitors to pay £5 as tourist taxes (旅游税), and this money could help do just that.
People hold different ideas about the tourist taxes.
The “Yes” Side: Most tourists agree they should pay a bit more. When tourists visit beautiful places, they create extra (额外的) work for the local government. This includes fixing paths, collecting rubbish, tidying beaches and cleaning toilets. Money is needed to deal with the extra work that tourists bring. Most tourists are happy to pay a bit extra. Research shows 71% of the travelers want to protect these places, and 80% are happy to pay more for special places for the future. Tourist taxes are already making a difference around the world. They help repair roads, clean beaches and fight climate change.
The “No” Side: Some people think holidays are already too expensive. If a family holiday suddenly costs more because of the tourist taxes, tourists might choose other places. This would be bad for local businesses that depend on tourists to make money. Some areas have already said no to tourist taxes because they fear losing customers.
56. What is the island famous for?
________________
57. How much money does the government want visitors to pay as tourist taxes?
________________
58. According to the “No” side, why have some areas said no to tourist taxes?
________________
59. Do you agree with the tourist taxes? Why or why not?

【原文】Good morning, everyone. I’m Lisa from Grade 9. It’s my great honor to share with you a meaningful experience. Last week, all of us in Grade 9 took part in a special activity to help make our city cleaner and greener. Before we started, our teacher gave us a lesson on why environmental protection matters and what we could do. Then we went to the city park with our classmates. Some of us picked up rubbish from the ground, some helped plant trees, and a few of us even talked to the visitors face to face, sharing the importance of living a green life. Although we felt tired after the hard work, we were very happy with what we did. I know small acts can make a big difference. So, my dear schoolmates, if everyone works together, we’ll make the earth green again. Thanks.
第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分30分)
第一节(共11小题;每小题2分,满分22分)
阅读下列材料,从每题所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
Air and Gases (气体)
Air is around you—but you hardly ever notice it. You cannot see it but you can breathe it all the time. It keeps you alive—and animals and plants, too.
Buoyant balloons (漂浮的气球)
These balloons have a gas called helium (氦). Helium is lighter than air, so it goes up, carrying the balloons with it.
Air support
A bicycle pump (打气筒) forces more and more air into the tire (轮胎). The air pushes out on the walls of the tire. It pushes so hard that it can support the weight of both the bicycle and the rider.
Big letdown
As a parachute (降落伞) falls, air pushes upward against it, so it drops slowly and safely to the ground.
The parachute opens up like a big umbrella, allowing more air to push from below.
21. Which is lighter than air in buoyant balloons?
A. Helium. B. The balloon. C. The umbrella.
22. Why can a person land slowly and safely from a parachute?
A. Air goes around the parachute.
B. Air pushes upward against the parachute.
C. A machine forces much air into the parachute.
23. Where is this passage most probably from?

【答案】24. A 25. B 26. C 27. A

【导语】本文讲述了Sven在雨天不顾危险钻进狭窄管道,成功救出被困小孩的故事,体现了见义勇为的精神。
【36题详解】
句意:雨像瀑布一样倾泻而下。
根据“like a waterfall”可知雨势很大,coming down“降下”常指雨落下;stepping up“走上前”、shaking off“抖落”均不符合“下雨”的语境。
