Paper cutting is a traditional Chinese art with a history of over 1,500 years. It uses simple tools like scissors and paper to create beautiful patterns. But in modern times, fewer young people are interested in it.
Zhang Min, a 16-year-old student from Nanjing, wants to change this. She learned paper cutting from her grandma when she was 8. She thinks paper cutting is a treasure of Chinese culture and should be passed down.
To promote paper cutting, Zhang Min started an online club. She posts videos of her paper cutting process on social media. In the videos, she explains the meaning of each pattern. For example, the fish pattern stands for good luck, and the peony pattern represents wealth. She also holds offline workshops in her school and community. Many students and neighbors come to learn from her.
“Paper cutting is not old-fashioned. It can be combined with modern life,” Zhang Min said. She has designed paper cutting patterns for phone cases and bags. Hi Lisa!
I’m sending this email from a café in Paris! I’m here with my cousin for the Fashion Week. It is so exciting to see clothes and styles from all over the world. Famous designers and models come here to show their new work.
Designers say fashion is a kind of art and a way to express different cultures. You can see traditional patterns from Africa, modern street style from Tokyo, and beautiful dresses made of silk from China all in one show.
The shows are amazing, but the most interesting part is seeing the “street style”. People from different countries wear their own unique clothes outside the show. You can see so many creative ideas just by walking down the street! Today we saw a girl wearing a dress made from recycled plastic bottles. It was so cool!
Some of the clothes on the show are very expensive, of course. But many designers are now thinking about making sustainable fashion. This means they are using eco-friendly materials and trying to reduce waste. Yesterday we went to a talk. A famous designer said, “Good fashion should be beautiful for people and kind to the earth.”
The weather here is nice, and the city is full of energy. There are lots of fashion lovers everywhere, and the cafés near the shows are pretty crowded. Someone told us this is the most popular fashion event in the world.
That is all for now. My battery is running low.
Yours,
Jenny

The global fashion industry is changing at a fast pace with the development of society and the increasing awareness of environmental protection. Among all the new trends, a concept called “sustainable fashion” is becoming more and more popular among brands and consumers. Sustainable fashion, also known as eco-fashion, means making and wearing clothes in a way that is friendly to the environment and respectful to the people involved in the production process.
Many well-known fashion brands around the world have started to change their production methods and use more eco-friendly materials. For example, they choose organic cotton that is grown without harmful chemicals, which is not only good for the soil and water but also safer for people’s skin. Some brands even recycle plastic bottles from daily life, process them into soft cloth, and then make them into T-shirts or jackets. Besides, they also try their best to reduce waste by reusing old clothes. For instance, some brands set up collection boxes in shopping malls to collect old jeans, and then process these old jeans into new bags, wallets or even new pieces of clothing.
Why is sustainable fashion so important for our world? First of all, making traditional clothes usually uses a huge amount of water and energy. It is reported that producing a single cotton T-shirt needs hundreds of litres of water. Second, a large number of old clothes are often thrown away and end up in landfills every year. These clothes take a long time to decompose and will pollute the soil and groundwater. By choosing sustainable fashion, we can effectively reduce resource consumption and environmental pollution, thus helping protect our precious planet.
As students, we can also take small but meaningful actions to join in the sustainable fashion movement. We can try to buy fewer new clothes and take good care of our old clothes to make them last longer. We can also sort out our old clothes that are still in good condition and give them to others who need them, such as children in poor areas or people around us. Remember, fashion is not just about looking fashionable and beautiful, it’s also about being responsible for our environment and our world.

Have you ever thought about what’s more important, looking fashionable or feeling comfortable? You might have noticed many people choosing style over comfort and some even go to extremes to follow fashion. But we should remember, being fashionable isn’t everything. It’s more important to be healthy.
Some people believe that they need to be a certain size to look good. So, they start extreme diets that are not good for their health. They might not eat meals or eat too little, which can make them feel sick. Is it a healthy way to live?
Also, many girls wear shoes with very high heels. They might think high heels make them look taller. But these shoes can actually hurt their feet and make it hard to walk comfortably, and it can increase risks of falls. Some even wear tight clothes that influence blood circulation, making it hard to breathe. Should we put fashion over comfort and physical health?
Besides, some boys and girls spend a lot of time and money changing their hair color. The material they use is usually harmful to their health. To make their hair straight or curly, they also use tools that are hot enough to burn their hair. But using these tools too often or at very high temperatures can make the hair dry or even burnt. Is it really worth it to risk our health and to spend so much time and money?
So, let’s rethink what’s really important. Is it fashion or is it our well-being? Clothes or hairstyles don’t tell us anything about a person’s character. Instead of spending a lot of time choosing clothes, we could use that time to do fun things with friends. And instead of following extreme diets, let’s eat properly and exercise regularly. Remember, your worth is not decided by your appearance, but by who you are as a person.

In recent years, it has become popular for women to wear a traditional qipao dress. Especially during the National College Entrance Examination, better known as the “gaokao”, many mothers wear qipaos to wish their children good luck in the exam. The reason is that “qipao” represents the Chinese phrase “qi kai de sheng”, meaning victory.
The qipao has a high collar (领子), with pankou (盘扣), traditional Chinese knotted buttons, on the front. Some people believe the qipao originated from gowns (长袍) worn by women in the Qing Dynasty. Influenced by Western culture, it changed during the early 20th century, becoming more fitted.
After years of development, the qipao is now mainly divided into Beijing styles, Shanghai styles and Hong Kong styles.
The Beijing-style qipao is more traditional than Shanghai-style and Hong Kong-style qipaos. The colors of Beijing-style qipaos are much brighter. High-quality Beijing-style qipaos are usually made by hand, so the price is much higher.
Compared with Beijing-style qipaos, Shanghai-style ones are more forward-looking. More western elements (元素) are used in the designs and colors. Shanghai-style qipaos became the most popular qipao style around the 1930s because of the fashionable design and slim shape. Now, Shanghai-style qipaos are still the first choice for most women, especially among younger ones.
Hong Kong-style qipaos have been influenced greatly by European fashions. They have shorter sleeves (袖子) than the other two. The decorations are simpler, too.
The qipao is a very classic product to represent the beauty of traditional Chinese clothing. It shows not only the history of Manchu people (and later the Han people), but also the footprints of other cultures on the land.

In early March 2026, a free AI tool called OpenClaw became popular in China. People call it “the Lobster” (龙虾) because its icon is a red lobster. It started a fashion across the country called “raising lobsters”—that means setting up and using this AI tool. A large number of technology fans waited in line for free setup in Shenzhen and Shanghai, and many people also paid for quick online help with setting it up.
Unlike other common chat tools like ChatGPT, OpenClaw can do different kinds of practical tasks. It can work on many computer systems and goes well with everyday office programs. It can organize information, edit documents (编辑文件), and solve computer problems by itself, serving as a helpful tool. This change from “just chatting” to “working” made people want more suitable machines. Apple’s Mac mini has been sold out all over the world. Big companies like Tencent and Baidu have added one-click setting to make it easier to use, and local governments have made helpful rules to support similar research and develop new ideas.
However, fast growth also brings risks. China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (工信部) warned that wrong setup might lead to cyberattacks and data leaks. Because of this risk, some big international companies even stopped using OpenClaw. Also, people who use it a lot have to keep paying for necessary language services. The day I heard that the Bright Bookstore was closing, I was upset. The bookstore had been in the neighbourhood for 50 years, and it was a great place where people could know each other through their love of books.
When I met Old Tim, the store’s owner, he said it was difficult to run a traditional bookstore in the digital (数字化) age. Most young people preferred reading e-books and more people bought books online.
As Tim spoke, childhood memories came back to me. A group of us kids used to visit the store, spending hours reading there or just talking with Tim. Tim encouraged us to share our ideas by writing them on a large board.
A few months later, I was back and was surprised to see that the Bright Bookstore was still open for business. It was still old, but inside it was like a different world. In an area, a book reading was going on. Nearby, some readers were sharing their ideas on a screen instead of the large board. Some were reading on computers. It even had a coffee shop selling nice food.
Tim told me there were more community events in the coffee shop such as book readings, concerts and movie nights. Clearly, the Bright Bookstore had found new, creative ways to bring itself into a new life. It had changed into a vibrant space.
“Well, as you can see, technology and creativity have brought my old bookstore into the 21st century! I’m so glad to see that everything I wanted it to offer to the community is still here,” Tim said with a smile.
No matter how times change, there are always people who love reading. With the development of technology, traditional bookstores must also change in creative ways.

A.full of life and energy B.old-fashioned and out-of-date C.quiet and crowded D.completely digital
4.What was Tim’s attitude(态度) towards the bookstore at last?
A.He couldn’t stand it. B.He didn’t care about it. C.He worried about it. D.He warmly welcomed it.
5.What does the writer want to show us by writing this passage?
A.Share love, spread kindness. B.Read to grow, grow by reading.
C.Pass down tradition, light up the future. D.Technology drives change, creativity leads the way.
The costs of fast fashion
We live in a “throw-away” culture — from clothing to coffee cups. Fast fashion encourages us to treat clothes as disposable (一次性的). Clothes stores change their product series every few weeks, producing a repeated production cycle that causes serious harm to nature. But nothing we produce is ever truly gone. It either returns to nature or pollutes. The fast fashion industry, driven by low costs, shows how the planet pays the price.

Each year, more than 1.2 billion new smartphones are produced worldwide. This process uses plenty of energy and natural resources (资源), while also bringing huge numbers of electronic waste, as people often replace perfectly workable phones every few years. To address this challenge, researchers have come up with a new method—changing old phones into tiny data centers to process and store data for real-world needs.
Seine hopes to come back!
For centuries, the Seine was Paris’s source (来源) of life and daily refreshment (焕发精神). Long before modern pools, Parisians washed clothes, drew drinking water, and cooled off in the river. But by the early 20th century, Paris’s rapid development brought serious pollution. Waste poured in from riverside factories, turning the once-clear Seine into an unsafe waterway. Over the years, the city has made efforts to restore (恢复) the river’s health.

Fast fashion has changed the way we dress. Clothes are cheaper and easier to buy than ever before. But there is a hidden price: the environment. Every year, about 92 million tons of clothing are thrown away. That is like a garbage truck full of clothes being thrown away every second. Imagine all those shirts, pants, and dresses ending up in landfills(垃圾填埋场)!
To solve this problem, a group of Austrian researchers led by Thomas Harter has a smart idea: turn old clothes into stronger packaging paper. Instead of letting clothes rot(腐烂)in landfills, they give them a second life.
The process starts with cutting the clothes into tiny pieces. These pieces are put in a water-based solution(溶液), and then they go through a special machine. This step separates the cotton fibers(纤维). After that, the fibers are mixed with recycled paper pulp(纸浆).
Here’s the cool part: textile(纺织品)fibers are much longer than paper fibers. Because of this, they make the final paper stronger. The new paper looks a bit brown and has small spots(点)of color from the old clothes. But it works well for packaging and can be recycled just like normal paper.
The project is still new, but the team hopes to improve it by using some safe chemicals. This would make the process faster, cheaper, and more environmentally friendly. When the new method is ready, it could help reduce textile waste around the world. One more good thing? The new paper is stronger, so it can be used longer. This means less paper will be thrown away when making packaging.

Do you know where the colors of your clothes come from? The answer is dye (染料). The clothes we wear these days are mainly dyed by machine. But in the past, people did this by hand.
Tie-dye (扎染) is an old way of dyeing in China. It is a kind of art with a history of more than 1,000 years. The dyes often come from plants. People use the natural plants to make the colors. They put the clothes in the colors and take them out after some time. Then they put the clothes in the sun. After that, the clothes become beautiful.
Nowadays tie-dye is very popular even among many young people. They like to wear tie-dye clothes. And many foreign friends like to buy tie-dye clothes as souvenirs. In 2006, the tie-dye skills were added to China’s national intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) list.
Anning in Yunnan is well-known for tie-dye. Yang Chen, 52, is the inheritor (继承人) of tie-dye. He learned the skills from his mother in the 1980s. And he has passed it down to his daughter. He thought people should try their best to make tie-dye skills better. Yang Chen has learned all the old skills of tie-dye. At the same time, he also tries to make some creative designs. Yang likes telling people about the history of tie-dye in Chinese culture. And he thinks that the old skills are very important. “The old skills are the roots of our culture,” he says. So now he teaches tie-dye skills in schools and other places. He wants more young people to learn about the old skills, and he also hopes that one day tie-dye will be part of fashion everywhere. He thinks it’s important to keep this traditional Chinese art alive. Some might worry that tie-dye will be replaced by machinery dyeing. But Yang is confident. “Machines can’t do what we do,” he says. “They can’t replace our creative hands.”
1.How does the writer start the text?
A.By giving a fact. B.By telling a story.
C.By giving an example. D.By asking a question.

Once, fashion was all about shoes that were well-designed and nice-looking, with cool young people having many high heels. But lately, things have changed. Shoes that were once thought “ugly”, like Crocs and Birkenstocks, are now popular for everyday wear among the youth.
So, why do people love these “ugly” shoes?
One of the reasons is how comfortable they are. Birkenstocks, for example, are special because they have flexible (柔韧的) footbeds. After people wear the shoes for a while, the footbeds slowly change to fit their feet.
The choice is also about self-expression. Take Crocs for example: Their thick bottoms and holes might seem strange, but when you add colorful small things to them, they become a fun and special way to stand out.
Carolyn Mair, a professor, said, “Our brains are often attracted to the unusual over the simple. That’s why people are easily attracted to something new and strange.” So, in addition to the comfort value of these shoes, perhaps it is the wish for attention that influences wearers.
Young people’s love for “ugly” shoes is not about saying no to beauty, but it’s about going against old fashion rules. By mixing comfort, creativity and even humor (幽默), they’re changing what “cool” means.
1.What do the underlined words “high heels” mean?
A.Comfortable sports shoes. B.Colorful summer skirts.
C.Beautiful long dresses. D.Shoes with high parts at the back.

A.Hoping to look perfect. B.Wanting to get attention.
C.Disliking traditional shoe design. D.Considering them as more fashionable.
4.What is the writer’s attitude (态度) toward young people’s love for “ugly” shoes?
A.He thinks it is a good change. B.He thinks it is a bad choice.
C.He feels worried about it. D.He has no idea about it.
5.What’s the best title for the passage?

C.Fashion Rules That Can Never Be Broken D.How to Make Crocs More Beautiful
In ancient China, there was a story about silk. It’s said that silk was first invented by Leizu, the wife of the Yellow Emperor. Leizu discovered how to make cocoons (蚕茧) into soft and strong cloth. Silk was so valuable that it was called “China’s Gold”. For hundreds of years, China kept the skill of silk-making a secret under the kings’ orders.
During the Han Dynasty, Zhang Qian traveled to Central Asia with silk. This journey started the Silk Road, a trade route connecting China with Europe. The road was busy with traders who crossed deserts and mountains. They sold silk and tea from China, bringing back Western treasures like spices, gold and silver. At first, people traded goods. Later, they shared ideas, cultures and technologies. For example, Chinese inventions like paper-making were spread to the West, while new math and science ideas came to China
Most importantly, the Silk Road helped cultural exchange. People shared art, music and even language along this ancient road. The Dunhuang Grottoes (敦煌石窟) is a great example, the art pieces combined (融合) Eastern and Western styles and became distinctive. They can not be seen anywhere else.
The story of the Silk Road shows people far away can become friends through trade and shared knowledge. Today, it’s regarded as a great example of cooperation (合作) and exchange. It teaches us to understand and respect different cultures, and work together to create amazing things.

Do you ever wonder what happens to your old clothes after you throw them away? Most people think they go to a landfill (垃圾填埋场). But the truth is surprising. Some of them travel thousands of miles to countries far away.
Every year, people in rich countries buy more clothes than they need. Fashion changes quickly, and cheap clothes make it easy to buy new ones. But what happens to the old ones? Some are given to charity shops. Some are thrown in the bin. But a large amount is packed into huge bales (大包) and sent to countries in Africa and Asia.
Take Ghana, a country in West Africa, as an example. Every week, about 15 million used clothes arrive at its capital, Accra. These clothes are sold in huge markets like Kantamanto. People call them “dead white man’s clothes” because they come from Western countries.
At first, this might sound like a good thing. People in Ghana can buy cheap clothes. But there is a dark side. About 40% of these clothes are of such poor quality that no one wants to buy them. They end up in open dumps, rivers, or are burned. This causes serious pollution. The chemicals in the clothes harm the soil and water. Burning them poisons the air.
Some people are trying to solve this problem. Organizations are teaching people how to recycle old clothes into new products. For example, worn-out jeans can become bags. Old T-shirts can be turned into rugs. Designers are also creating new fashion from waste materials.
The next time you want to throw away an old T-shirt, think about its journey. Could it be turned into something new? Could someone else use it? Every small choice we make can help reduce waste and protect our planet.

3.What problem do the unwanted clothes cause in Ghana?
A.They take up too much space in shops.

As international news said, OpenClaw shows the quick rise of useful AI tools and can help people work better. However, to make it grow well and last long, we need a balanced way: we must put new technology, online safety, and cost control together.
1.How does the writer describe OpenClaw’s popularity in Paragraph 1?
A.By asking questions B.By telling a story
C.By giving examples D.By listing reasons
2.What makes OpenClaw different from common chat tools?
A.It is able to complete practical tasks by itself.
B.It supports talking with people all over the world.
C.It provides free office programs for users.
D.It works faster than other AI tools.
3.What can we know from the second paragraph?
A.OpenClaw will be in use in most companies soon.
B.Apple’s Mac mini is the only machine people can buy.
C.Local governments do nothing for the development of OpenClaw.
D.OpenClaw helps increase the sales of suitable machines.
4.What does the phrase “cyberattacks and data leaks” most probably mean in Paragraph 3?
A.helping people work better by sharing useful information
B.harmful online actions and losing private information
C.collecting and keeping information in a safe way
D.sending information to others quickly through the Internet
5.Which opinion would the writer probably agree with?
A.OpenClaw will do all the office work soon.
B.OpenClaw is a useful AI tool but needs proper use and management.
C.It’s right for big international companies to stop using OpenClaw.
D.OpenClaw’s success shows that ChatGPT is no longer useful.
【答案】1.C 2.A 3.D 4.B 5.B
【导语】本文介绍了2026年3月走红的免费AI工具OpenClaw(被称为“龙虾”)的特点、应用场景、带来的影响以及快速发展中伴随的风险。
1.第一段中通过列举“technology fans waited in line for free setup in Shenzhen and Shanghai”以及“many people also paid for quick online help”等具体例子,来说明OpenClaw的受欢迎程度。
2.第二段中提到“Unlike other common chat tools like ChatGPT, OpenClaw can do different kinds of practical tasks...This change from ‘just chatting’ to ‘working’...”,说明OpenClaw与普通聊天工具的不同之处在于它能够自己完成实际任务。
3.第二段中提到“This change...made people want more suitable machines. Apple’s Mac mini has been sold out all over the world.”,说明OpenClaw帮助提升了合适机器的销量。
4.根据第三段划线短语所在句“China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology warned that wrong setup might lead to cyberattacks and data leaks.”并结合后一句“Because of this risk, some big international companies even stopped using OpenClaw.”可知,划线短语出现在第三段阐述错误安装带来风险的语境中,属于负面结果,结合选项可以推断“cyberattacks and data leaks”指的是有害的网络行为和隐私信息泄露。
5.第三段末尾作者提到“to make it grow well and last long, we need a balanced way: we must put new technology, online safety, and cost control together.”,因此作者最可能同意的观点是OpenClaw是有用的AI工具,但需要正确使用和合理管理。

1.Why is it difficult to run a traditional bookstore?
A.Because fewer young people like reading. B.Because more bookstores compete.

2.What could book lovers do in the new Bright Bookstore?
①People can have coffee while reading.
②People can read books on computers.
③People can share ideas on a digital screen.
④People can write thoughts on a large board.
A.①②④ B.①②③ C.②③④ D.①③④
3.What does the underlined word“vibrant”mean in Paragraph 5?
A.full of life and energy B.old-fashioned and out-of-date C.quiet and crowded D.completely digital
4.What was Tim’s attitude(态度) towards the bookstore at last?
A.He couldn’t stand it. B.He didn’t care about it. C.He worried about it. D.He warmly welcomed it.
5.What does the writer want to show us by writing this passage?
A.Share love, spread kindness. B.Read to grow, grow by reading.

_______________

3.According to Carolyn Mair, what might encourage people to wear “ugly” shoes?
A.Hoping to look perfect. B.Wanting to get attention.
C.Disliking traditional shoe design. D.Considering them as more fashionable.
4.What is the writer’s attitude (态度) toward young people’s love for “ugly” shoes?
A.He thinks it is a good change. B.He thinks it is a bad choice.
C.He feels worried about it. D.He has no idea about it.

B.They are sent to landfills in the same country.
C.They are shipped to other countries for sale.

A.Because the clothes are of poor quality.
B.Because they come from Western countries.
C.Because the clothes are for dead people.
D.Because they are sold in Kantamanto market.
3.What problem do the unwanted clothes cause in Ghana?
A.They take up too much space in shops.
B.They are too expensive for local people.
C.They cause pollution to the environment.
D.They make local clothes less popular.
4.How does the writer organize Paragraph 5?
A.By telling a story. B.By comparing different opinions.

3.第三段第一、三句指出:“Her accessories (装饰) were also very interesting…Each of these things showed a different part of Chinese culture.”。
