Every morning, a big riverside school in the forest of Borneo comes to life. The caretakers and teachers in the school are from a specialized team and the students there are orangutans (红毛猩猩) whose parents have gone missing, making it one of the most unusual schools in the world.
The orangutans aged from 2 to 8 years old are divided into five groups according to their skills. They are looked after by the team who feed the babies and teach the older orangutans to start feeding themselves. There are often problems in the beginning. For example, there is a lesson about how to break open a coconut to drink the milk inside. Several young orangutans couldn’t do that and they got very angry about the whole thing.
Of course, as in any social group, the orangutans have to learn to get on with each other. There are the usual arguments over food when one orangutan doesn’t get what he or she wants. However, with the care of the trainers, they gradually learn to accept each other.
In one of the lessons, the trainers teach young orangutans to climb trees. This is an important skill they need to learn. Some of the orangutans in particular were really scared. It took them a long time to get the courage to climb up and swing from a branch (树枝) , but when they finally did it, they were so satisfied with themselves!
The goal of the “education system” is to train the orangutans to be able to live in the wild again and look after themselves. They won’t have to stay at school forever. After the older orangutans are set free into the forest, there is no more connection with the people from the school. They now have to live as wild orangutans again and be accepted by the other orangutans who are already there.
The day when they say goodbye is a difficult one. However, the trainers are happy that their job is done. They have successfully taught young orangutans how to live in the wild again—where they belong.
21.Where is the orangutan school?
A.In a forest. B.By a lake. C.In a zoo. D.In a laboratory.
22.What do orangutans learn to do in the school?
A.Fight to live. B.Get on with each other.
C.Make useful tools. D.Feed babies on their own.
23.How did the young orangutans feel after learning to climb trees?
A.Surprised. B.Relaxed. C.Tired. D.Happy.
24.Why is the “education system” set up for orangutans?
A.To offer them an easy life. B.To train them to be independent.
C.To free them from the past. D.To keep them away from humans.
25.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.A Special Forest Team B.Wildlife Schools in the World
C.A School with a Difference D.Courses for Smart Orangutans

①Watching movies is a fun way to spend time with friends or family. You might enjoy science fiction, action films, or love stories. No matter what you pick, one thing is for sure — the fun doesn’t stop when you choose a movie. It’s time to think about snacks! Today, movie theaters offer many snacks, but one snack stands out above the rest — popcorn.
②Popcorn and movies go together like bread and butter, although popcorn wasn’t always the top snack at theaters. In the old days, theater owners wanted to bring in some refined (有品位的) customers who enjoyed live plays. They thought popcorn would be too messy (杂乱的) and create too much noise. After all, who would want to see all that mess or hear all that noise?
③Things changed during the Great Depression (大萧条). People needed a break from their worries, and movies were a good way to relax. Street vendors (摊贩) started selling popcorn outside theaters, and it soon became a hit because it was nice and cheap. Theaters saw this and let them sell popcorn inside, too. Before long, the theater owners learned they could make and sell popcorn and keep the money for themselves!
④As the years went by, popcorn became even more popular. During World War II, candy and soda were hard to find, but popcorn was still available. People turned to this simple snack, and as time passed, it became a must-have at every movie showing.
⑤Nowadays, you can’t go to the movies without seeing a line for popcorn. Everyone loves it! So, next time you sit down to enjoy a film, remember to get a bowl of popcorn. It’s not just a snack, it’s part of the movie magic!
26.What does the phrase “stands out above the rest” mean in Paragraph 1?
A.is the noisiest B.is the messiest C.is the most popular D.is the most expensive
27.Why did theater owners refuse popcorn at first?
A.Because it was too expensive for customers.
B.Because they thought it was messy and noisy.
C.Because it was not popular among street vendors.
D.Because they wanted to sell candy and soda instead.
28.Why did popcorn become even more popular during World War II?
A.Because candy and soda were hard to find.
B.Because it was cheaper than other snacks.
C.Because theaters made it themselves.
D.Because it was a new kind of snack.
29.What is the right order of the following events?
a. Popcorn became a must-have at every movie showing.
b. Theater owners wanted to bring in the refined customers.
c. Street vendors were allowed to sell popcorn inside theaters.
A.b-a-c B.b-c-a C.c-a-b D.c-b-a
30.Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage?
A.①//②③//④⑤ B.①②③//④⑤ C.①②//③④//⑤ D.①//②③④//⑤
Have you ever felt discouraged (泄气的) by a big goal, like learning a new language or getting better at a sport? 31 However, experts suggest that paying attention to “small wins” can make a big difference.
32 For example, learning five new words today, running for one more minute than yesterday, or finally understanding a difficult math problem—all these are small wins. They might seem unimportant alone, but together they create the way to success.
Celebrating these small victories is very important for our brains. Each time we recognize a small win, our brain produces a chemical (化学物质) that makes us feel happy and proud. 33 It builds our confidence and helps us believe that we can improve through effort.
On the other hand, if we only focus on the faraway final goal, we can feel stressed and want to give up when progress is slow. Recording small wins helps us see that we are moving forward, even if the steps are small. 34 So, how can you use this power? 35 At the end of each day or week, take a moment to write down or think about what you have achieved, no matter how small it seems. By doing this, you will stay positive and discover that every small step truly matters.
A.This positive feeling gives us energy to keep going.
B.Start by breaking your big goal into small, clear steps.
C.The final success seems so far away that it’s easy to lose heart.
D.A small win is any tiny progress you make toward your goal.
E.Writing down your failures can be just as important as recording your wins.
F.It teaches us to enjoy the journey of growth, not just the final result.

Full stop is the punctuation (标点符号) that people use to end a sentence. Do you often use it?
People find that young people now seldom send messages with full stops. They see full stops as a 36 of anger. British writer Sophie Hannah 37 : “I asked my 16-year-old son—this is true. If he got a message with full stops at the end of sentences, he’d think the sender was strange, mean or too direct.”
Young people feel unhappy because 38 parents are strict in texts since they “use a full stop at the end of every sentence”. An American University survey found that only 39 percent of young people use final sentence punctuation in texts, 39 45 percent use it online.
In most written language, the full stop is just a way of 40 a stop, but if you often use full stops, young people will feel you are 41 to them.
Another 42 is that the exclamation point (感叹号) is now used to be truthful, as in “I love it!” or “Are you making fun of me?” “No!!!!!”
As problems of tone (语气) kept 43 on texts and short messages, people began to use other punctuation marks rather than invent new ones.
So far, the new uses of punctuation haven’t been 44 into official writing. Perhaps one day it will. And our children or grandchildren will wonder why everyone 45 to be so angry.
From Tradition to the Modern
During the Dragon Boat Festival, Chinese always put mugwort leaves on doors or windows to make the air fresh and keep flies and other insects away. Mugwort, a kind of plant, is highly valued for its medical use in TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine). Chinese have been making use of herbs (草药) like mugwort to help people improve health or treat illness for thousands of years.
Nowadays, we are seeing more interest in TCM especially among the young. Influenced by TCM ideas, some young people stop having icy drinks. They accept hot Chinese herbal tea, instead. When people feel ill, some choose to go to TCM hospitals and clinics for treatment. With the spread of TCM, some schools start courses about it. For example, students learn to make joss sticks (线香) with herbs in class. More TCM programs appear on TV and the Internet, which can help people form better living habits.
In fact, the ideas of Traditional Chinese Medicine are everywhere around us. Following the natural rules can make us healthier. As an old saying goes, “Early to bed, early to rise.” TCM also pays more attention to the balance of diet. Different coloured foods are friendly to different parts of the body. White food is good for lungs, red for heart... If a body is like a tree, TCM focuses on its root (根). It aims at keeping the body and mind in harmony (和谐).
Chinese traditions are making a difference to our modern life.

根据空后“because of the change of climate”,可知此处表示动物因气候变化消失,died out意为“灭绝、消失”,符合语义。
根据第二段第一句“When the test paper was…to me, I was surprised and sad.”,可知此处是进行了一场测试,test意为“考试、测试”。
根据空后句子“There was a big red “x” through each of my answers.
根据第四段中“I had made up all that story about the wampus. There had never been such an animal, so the information in your notes was not correct.”,老师说信息是编造的,答案全错,反问学生是否想要高分,high意为“高的”,high marks表示“高分”,符合语境。
根据空后“What kind of test was this? What kind of teacher was he? How could we believe he gave us so much information about an animal that had not been there at all?”,学生对老师的做法提出质疑,angry意为“生气的、愤怒的”。
It is + adj. + for sb. to do sth.
固定搭配develop the habit of意为 “养成……的习惯”。

【答案】26.C 27.B 28.A 29.B 30.D
26.第一段指出:“Today, movie theaters offer many snacks, but one snack stands out above the rest—popcorn.”,影院有很多零食,但爆米花是其中最突出的,结合后文爆米花成为观影标配的内容,可推断“stands out above the rest”的意思是最受欢迎的。
27.第二段指出:“They thought popcorn would be too messy and create too much noise.”,影院老板最初拒绝爆米花,是因为他们认为爆米花太杂乱、噪音太大。
28.第四段指出:“During World War II, candy and soda were hard to find, but popcorn was still available.”,二战期间爆米花更受欢迎,是因为糖果和苏打水很难买到,而爆米花仍可供应。

【答案】31.C 32.D 33.A 34.F 35.B
31.空格前句提到因大目标感到泄气,后句说专家建议关注“小胜利”,此处需说明最终成功太遥远而容易失去信心,C选项“The final success seems so far away that it’s easy to lose heart.”
32.本段举例“For example, learning five new words today, running for one more minute than yesterday, or finally understanding a difficult math problem—all these are small wins.”说明小胜利是什么,此处需定义什么是小胜利,D选项“A small win is any tiny progress you make toward your goal.”
34.空格前句说记录小胜利帮助我们看到进步,后句问如何利用这种力量,此处需说明它教我们享受成长过程,F选项“It teaches us to enjoy the journey of growth, not just the final result.”
35.空格前句“So, how can you use this power?”问如何利用这种力量,后句建议每天或每周结束时记录成就,此处需建议将大目标分解成小步骤,B选项“Start by breaking your big goal into small, clear steps.”

36.sign 37.wrote 38.their 39.while 40.marking 41.unfriendly 42.example 43.appearing 44.accepted 45.used
因为“a sign of”是固定搭配,表示“……
因为前文提到“only 39 percent of young people use final sentence punctuation in texts”,而后文提到“45 percent use it online”,两者形成对比,所以选择“while”。
“he full stop is just a way of…a stop”指“表示停顿”的方式,“a way of doing sth.”
“keep doing sth.”是固定搭配,表示“持续做某事”,且根据“As problems of tone kept…on texts and short messages”的语境可知,此处指的是语气问题持续出现,所以选择“appearing”。
“So far, the new uses of punctuation haven’t been…into official writing”表示“还没有被正式写作所接受”,此处需要一个动词的过去分词形式,在句中表示“被接受”的状态,所以选择“accepted”。
used to be“过去常常是”,是固定搭配。

I choose Plan C: Write a Postcard to Yourself in 10 Years.
I like this plan best because it is meaningful and special. We are going to graduate soon. Writing a postcard to my future self gives me a chance to record my dreams and feelings at this moment. Ten years later, when I open it, I will remember my school days and see how much I have grown.
I suggest that we also add a class photo to the postcard. Then we can see our young faces when we open it. That will make the memory even sweeter.

Dear Classmates, have you heard of the school entrance ceremony? It was one of the most important things for the children between the ages of 4 and 7 in ancient China. There wasn’t a certain day at that time. Their parents would choose a lucky day in September for them to enter school. Next, parents would prepare some school things for the children, including desks, chairs, and 4 treasures of the study. On that day, parents would take the children to take part in the first writing ceremony. Before that, the children would kowtow to the statue of Confucius nine times and then to their teacher three times to show their deep respect. Then the teacher would put a red point on the student’s forehead as it meant opening the wisdom eye. Children would also ring a bell to start a new term. After that, they could finally sit down and begin to study.
