We don’t normally see our bones, so we probably don’t think about them much. But your bones help your body in important ways.
There are more than two hundred bones in your body, and all of these bones have important jobs. One group of bones holds your body up. Among these bones are the leg bones and the backbone. Without these bones, you would not be able to stand or sit up.
The shoulder bones and the bones in your upper body give your body its shape. These bones are not just there to shape you, but also protect the heart and other parts of the body that are inside them. The bone in your head does the same thing for the brain. It is strong, and it keeps your brain from being hurt.
And the bones in your body, of course, help you to move and do things. But they can’t make it without the help of the muscles. Muscles cover them, keep them fixed and make them join at the joints strongly.
Your bones also help your body in another very important and surprising way. The center of some bones has a soft, white material. It is in this material that new red blood cells (细胞) are made. Red blood cells, of course, are very important for keeping us alive.

①Are you troubled by housework, such as cleaning tables or tidying your room? It’s said that some new AI robots could be here to help!
②Recently, the robot Mobile Aloha made by scientists at Stanford University in the US became popular online. In the videos posted, we can see the robot preparing dishes on its own, from cutting vegetables to cracking (打破) eggs. It’s also good at watering plants, petting cats, sweeping the floor, folding clothes and taking care of children. It even knows how to shake the pillow after putting it into a pillowcase (枕套).
③Sounds good? Well, ________ Actually, it isn’t good at doing housework on its own. Instead, it learns from human actions before doing each kind of housework. When the situation changes, it can’t work well without a human “teaching” it. So it may break dishes, bump into (撞上) things and even burn a pot.
④Moreover, Mobile Aloha can successfully move chairs 80 per cent of the time, said the team after they did more research on it. For cooking dishes, it’s only 40 per cent. For looking after babies, it’s even worse. In short, it’s far from perfect.
⑤In fact, AI robots are good at tasks such as math and playing chess, but they face challenges when it comes to simpler actions like cleaning, washing or cooking. And it’s the same for Mobile Aloha. For example, if its body doesn’t move correctly, even just with a small deviation (偏差), its arm may move too far to pick up a glass.
⑥“Robots are not ready to take over the world,” the team posted on X.

FIRST AID FOR BURNS
DEGREE OF BURNS
TREATMENT
If you have a first-degree burn, follow these steps:
①When you get burned, the first thing to do is to put the injured area under cool running water. Keep it there for about 10-15 minutes. This helps to reduce the pain and prevent the burn from getting worse.
②After cooling the burn, carefully take off any jewelry or clothing near the burned area. This is important because
burns can cause swelling (肿胀), and jewelry might become too tight. However, if any clothing is stuck to the burn, don’t try to take it off, as this could hurt the skin more.
③Soak the area in cool water for about 30 minutes to further relieve pain and reduce swelling. Once the skin is dry, you can apply a thin layer of burn cream or aloe vera gel to help healing. Avoid using ice, butter, or home remedies like toothpaste, as these can damage the skin and lead to infection.
④Finally, protect the burn by covering it with a clean, soft cloth or bandage. This keeps dirt and germs away from the wound while it heals. Avoid using dirty materials, as they might stick to the burn or cause hurt.
If the burn is serious, call 120 or go to the hospital at once.
PREVENTION
● Avoid touching hot water directly. It can burn your skin badly. Always check the temperature first or use a cup with a handle.
● Stay away from fire. Fire can hurt you and spread fast. Never play with matches or lighters, and keep a safe distance from stoves and candles.
● Deal with chemicals under instructions. Some chemicals are dangerous, so always follow your teacher’s instructions. Wear gloves to protect yourself.
● Be careful when using electricity. Wet hands and broken wires can cause accidents. Turn off devices after use and don’t plug too many things into one socket.

All of these things that the bones do make them truly amazing parts of the human body. So please take care of your bones. Once they are broken, it will take you at least 100 days to recover from it. That’s nothing fun!
26. How can bones help the human body?

28. Which of the following questions is answered in the passage?
A. How many muscles are in people’s body? B. Which bones are the most important of all?
C. What will happen if there are no leg bones? D. How do muscles produce red blood cells?
29. In which sentence can you put the underlined word recover?
A. Columbus ________ the new continent (大陆), the America, in 15th century.

C
31. The robot Mobile Aloha is good at ________.
A. sweeping the floor B. folding the clothes C. taking care of children D. A, B and C
32. Which sentence can be put in the ________?
A. Mobile Aloha can be used to do some high-tech work, too.
B. a research shows that humans do these chores better than robots.
C. AI robots will also meet some problems when they help around the house.
D. another video about Mobile Aloha, posted by researchers, may let some people down.
33. Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.
34. Which is the best title of the passage?
A. Robots May Not Be So Helpful B. Robots May Take Humans’ Place
C. Robots — A Good Housework Helper D. Robots Are Ready to Shine
35. What is the main limitation (限制) of the robot Mobile Aloha mentioned in the passage?
A. It cannot perform high-tech tasks like math or playing chess.
B. It requires human guidance to learn and adapt to new situations.
C. It is too expensive for ordinary families to afford.
D. It can only work for a short time before needing repairs.
31. D 32. D 33. A 34. A 35. B
根据文章第②段“Recently, the robot Mobile Aloha...It’s also good at watering plants, petting cats, sweeping the floor, folding the clothes and taking care of children.”
是对第②段机器人“擅长多种家务”的肯定;后文“Actually, it isn’t good at doing housework on its own...it can’t work well without a human ‘teaching’ it.” “another video about Mobile Aloha, posted by researchers, may let some people down.”
根据文章第③段“it learns from human actions before doing each kind of housework. When the situation changes, it can’t work well without a human ‘teaching’ it.”,可知Mobile Aloha的主要局限是“需要人类指导来学习和适应新情况”。

根据“most of his”可知,此处应填名词复数形式,“poem”的复数是poems。
“simple”和“full of the beauty of nature”之间是转折关系,所以用“but”连接。
“so...that...”

A
FIRST AID FOR BURNS
51. How many degrees of burns are shown in the material?
________________________________________
52. How should we prevent being hurt according to the passage? List two ways.
________________________________________
Turn off everything after using it and don’t put too many plugs in one place.
________________________________________
54. What does the underlined word “it” refer to?
________________________________________
55. Why shouldn’t we take off any clothing stuck to the skin?
________________________________________
56. Please give the correct order of treatment.
If the burn is serious, call 120 or go to the hospital at once.
________________________________________
51. Four./4.
52. We should avoid touching hot water directly and stay away from fire.
53. Turn off devices after use and don’t plug too many things into one socket.
54. The injured area.
55. Because taking it off could hurt the skin more. 56. ④②①③
在“PREVENTION”部分的“Be careful when using electricity”段落中,找到同义句“Turn off devices after use and don’t plug too many things into one socket.”,两者表达的意思完全一致,因此答案是原文直接信息。
在“TREATMENT”部分的步骤①中,“When you get burned, the first thing to do is to put the injured area under cool running water. Keep it there for about 10-15 minutes.”,这里的“it”指代前文提到的“the injured area”(受伤部位)。
根据“TREATMENT”部分步骤②的内容“However, if any clothing is stuck to the burn, don’t try to take it off, as this could hurt the skin more.”,可知原因是“这会进一步伤害皮肤”。
“If the burn is serious, call 120 or go to the hospital at once.” “If the burn is serious”意为“如果烧伤严重”;“call 120”意为“拨打120”;“or”意为“或者”;“go to the hospital”意为“去医院”;“at once”意为“立刻、马上”。

It was raining heavily, and Karthik was alone at home. The sound of thunder was so loud that it felt like the gods were fighting in the sky. This scared him a little, so he took his favorite novel, Harry Potter, from the bookshelf.
Again, there was a terrible sound of thunder. He tried to focus on the novel, but the sudden sound of the doorbell interrupted him. It couldn’t be his parents. He looked at the wall clock-it was only ten minutes past three. Usually, they got home after six in the afternoon. The doorbell sounded again. “Who’s there?” he shouted. There was no reply. The doorbell sounded again. He remembered his parents telling him not to open the door without checking who it is.
“Should I answer the bell or not?” thought Karthik. He decided to first prepare himself for an unpleasant encounter (遭遇). He went into a room and came out with a baseball bat (棒球棒), which he hid behind the door in case he needed it. But still, he needed to make sure who was at the door before he opened it. He shouted once again, “Who’s at the door?” There was still no reply. No sound of footsteps, either. Suddenly, there was a loud cry. “Karthik! Karthik! Why don’t you open the door?”
“There is no doubt about it; it’s Dad,” Karthik shouted and rushed forward to open the door.
“Why are you holding a baseball bat?” asked Karthik’s father. For a moment, the boy seemed at a loss for words. Then his father gave him a big smile, perhaps understanding Karthik’s predicament (窘境).

Last Friday afternoon, I got home from school. I wanted to help to do some housework, so I cleaned the room. When my father saw it, he said, “You needn’t do that. Do some reading.” I didn’t want to read books, so I planned to watch TV. The TV show was very interesting and it made me laugh loudly. My mum heard and she was very angry, so she said, “Don’t watch TV. You should study.” Then I came to my room. “Why?” I thought. Mum and Dad love me very much. But they don’t understand me. Maybe we should have some talks. I want to tell them that they should not only focus on my study, but also allow me to have time to help them do some housework and relax myself.
