Unit 12 Innovation-Viewing Workshop 教学目标和重难点 1. 教学目标 It cultivates students’ language ability via viewing and expression, strengthens cultural awareness by understanding global innovation, develops thinking quality through critical analysis, and improves learning ability by guiding independent and cooperative learning. 2. 教学重难点 Key: Understand the main content and details of the viewing material about innovation; master related expressions. Difficulty: Analyze the value of innovation and express personal views in fluent English. 教学过程 Lead-in: Stimulate Interest and Lay a Foundation The lead-in link is designed to arouse students’ interest in the theme of innovation, activate their existing knowledge reserve, and pave the way for the subsequent viewing activities. At the beginning of the class, the teacher will start with daily life and ask students interactive questions in English: “What innovative products have you used in daily life? How do these innovations change your life?” The questions are closely related to students’ real life, such as smartphones, shared bikes, online shopping platforms, etc., so that students can easily participate in the discussion. After students express their views freely, the teacher will make a brief summary, emphasizing that innovation is closely related to our life and plays an important role in promoting social progress. Next, the teacher will show some pictures of classic innovative inventions (such as the light bulb, the Internet, and new energy vehicles) on the screen, and ask students to describe these inventions in simple English, including their functions and impacts. In this process, the teacher will guide students to use some basic words related to innovation, such as “invention”, “create”, “improve”, “convenient”, “efficient” and so on, which not only activates students’ existing vocabulary but also lays a foundation for understanding the subsequent video content. Finally, the teacher will naturally lead to the topic of this lesson: “Today we will watch a video about innovation, which will show us how innovation changes the world and brings new possibilities to our life. Let’s start our viewing journey together.” Pre-viewing: Clarify Goals and Master Key Points Before watching the video, it is necessary to help students clarify the viewing goals and master the key points, so as to improve the efficiency of viewing. First, the teacher will introduce the main content of the video briefly: the video is a short speech about innovation, which invites a technology expert to share the development process of innovation, typical cases of innovation, and the importance of innovation for individuals and society. Then, the teacher will put forward clear viewing tasks to guide students to watch with goals: Listen carefully and get the main idea of the video: What is the core viewpoint of the speaker? 2. Pay attention to the key details: What innovative cases does the speaker mention? What are the characteristics of these innovations? 3. Record the key words and sentences related to innovation, and try to understand their meanings in the context. After putting forward the viewing tasks, the teacher will focus on explaining some key words and phrases that may appear in the video, which are the key and difficult points in language learning. For example, “technological innovation” (technological innovation), “breakthrough” (breakthrough), “transform” (transform), “promote” (promote), “overcome difficulties” (overcome difficulties), “creative thinking” (creative thinking), etc. For each word and phrase, the teacher will give specific examples and explain their usage in combination with the context of innovation. For example, when explaining “breakthrough”, the teacher can say: “A breakthrough in medical technology has helped many patients recover. Here, ‘breakthrough’ means an important progress in a certain field.” At the same time, the teacher will also remind students of some listening skills, such as paying attention to the logical connection words in the video (such as “first”, “second”, “besides”, “finally”), which helps to grasp the structure of the video and understand the speaker’s train of thought. In addition, the teacher will organize students to have a short group discussion: “What do you think are the necessary qualities for an innovator?” Students can discuss freely in groups of 4-5, and express their views in simple English. The teacher will walk around the classroom to guide students, help them solve the problems in expression, and encourage them to use the newly learned words and phrases. This link not only cultivates students’ cooperative learning ability but also further deepens their understanding of the theme of innovation, laying a better foundation for the subsequent viewing. While-viewing: Focus on Details and Complete Tasks The while-viewing link is the core part of this lesson, which aims to help students improve their viewing ability, grasp the main content and key details of the video, and complete the viewing tasks efficiently. The video will be played three times, and each time with different focuses, so as to help students gradually deepen their understanding of the video content. The first playing: Focus on the main idea. After playing the video, the teacher will ask students to answer the question: “What is the speaker’s main point of view about innovation?” Students can answer freely, and the teacher will guide them to summarize the core viewpoint: Innovation is not only a technological progress but also a way of thinking, which can help us solve problems, promote social development, and realize personal value. At the same time, the teacher will check whether students have a preliminary understanding of the video structure, and remind them of the three parts of the video: the importance of innovation, typical innovative cases, and suggestions for cultivating innovative thinking. The second playing: Focus on key details. The teacher will play the video again, and ask students to complete the following tasks while watching: (1) List the innovative cases mentioned in the video and briefly describe their impacts. (2) Underline the key sentences that express the speaker’s views on innovation. After the video is played, students will be given a few minutes to sort out their notes, and then invite students to share their answers. For the innovative cases, the teacher will guide students to describe them in detail, such as the development of renewable energy technology, which solves the problem of energy shortage and reduces environmental pollution; the development of artificial intelligence, which brings convenience to people’s work and life. For the key sentences, the teacher will write them on the blackboard, explain their meanings and usages, and guide students to read them aloud to strengthen their memory. For example, “Innovation is not about being perfect at the first try, but about constantly trying and improving.” The teacher will explain that this sentence emphasizes that innovation requires perseverance and the courage to try, and guide students to use this sentence in their own expressions. The third playing: Focus on language expression. The teacher will play the video for the third time, and ask students to pay attention to the speaker’s pronunciation, intonation, and the use of connecting words, and try to imitate the speaker’s expression. At the same time, students are required to supplement the key words and sentences they missed in the previous two viewings. After the video is played, the teacher will organize students to carry out an imitation reading activity: select a short paragraph from the video, and ask students to read it aloud in groups, imitating the speaker’s intonation and emotion. The teacher will comment on students’ performance, affirm their advantages, and point out the places that need improvement, such as pronunciation accuracy, intonation ups and downs, etc. This link not only helps students master the language expressions related to innovation but also improves their oral expression ability. Post-viewing: Deepen Understanding and Expand Application The post-viewing link is designed to help students deepen their understanding of the video content, apply the learned language knowledge, and develop their thinking quality and language application ability. This link is divided into three parts: group discussion, language practice, and theme expansion. Group Discussion: The teacher will put forward two discussion topics, and students will discuss them in groups of 4-5. Topic 1: “Combined with the innovative cases in the video, what impacts do you think innovation will have on our future life?” Topic 2: “As senior high school students, how can we cultivate our own innovative thinking?” Before the discussion, the teacher will remind students to use the key words, phrases, and sentences learned in this lesson, and encourage them to express their own views boldly. During the discussion, the teacher will walk around the classroom, participate in the discussion of each group, guide students to think deeply, and help them solve the problems in expression. For example, if a student has difficulty expressing “I think innovation will make our life more convenient and efficient”, the teacher will guide them to use the phrase “bring convenience to” or “improve efficiency” to express their views more accurately. After the discussion, each group will select a representative to share the group’s views with the whole class. The teacher will make comments on the representatives’ performance, affirm their positive performance, and put forward suggestions for improvement, such as enriching the content of the expression, using more complex sentence patterns, etc. Language Practice: This part mainly focuses on the application of language knowledge, including two exercises: sentence transformation and short paragraph writing. Exercise 1: Sentence transformation. The teacher will give some simple sentences related to innovation, and ask students to transform them into more complex sentences using the connecting words and sentence patterns learned in the video. For example, “Innovation is important. It can promote social development.” can be transformed into “Innovation is very important because it can promote social development.” Exercise 2: Short paragraph writing. Ask students to write a short paragraph (about 80-100 words) with the theme of “My View on Innovation”, requiring them to use at least 5 key words and phrases learned in this lesson. After students finish writing, the teacher will collect some students’ works, read them aloud in class, and make comments, pointing out the advantages and shortcomings of the works, such as whether the theme is clear, whether the language is fluent, whether the key words and phrases are used correctly, etc. This link not only helps students consolidate the learned language knowledge but also improves their writing ability. Theme Expansion: To expand students’ horizons and deepen their understanding of innovation, the teacher will introduce some other innovative cases and related cultural background knowledge. For example, the teacher will introduce the innovative achievements of Chinese scientists in recent years, such as the development of high-speed rail, 5G technology, and space exploration, and let students know that China is also making great progress in the field of innovation. At the same time, the teacher will introduce the differences in innovative concepts and practices between different countries and regions, guide students to understand and respect cultural differences, and cultivate their cross-cultural communication awareness. In addition, the teacher will recommend some English materials related to innovation to students, such as English news reports, TED speeches, etc., and encourage students to read and watch them after class to improve their English level and expand their knowledge. Summary and Homework: Consolidate and Extend Summary: At the end of the class, the teacher will lead students to summarize the content of this lesson. First, review the main content of the video, including the core viewpoint of the speaker, typical innovative cases, and the importance of innovation. Then, sort out the key words, phrases, and sentence patterns learned in this lesson, and emphasize their usage. Finally, summarize the four-dimensional core literacy cultivated in this lesson: through viewing and discussion, students’ language ability has been improved; through understanding global innovative cases, students’ cultural awareness has been strengthened; through analyzing the value of innovation and expressing personal views, students’ thinking quality has been developed; through independent learning and cooperative discussion, students’ learning ability has been improved. The teacher will also encourage students to keep an innovative mind in daily life, observe and think more, and try to apply innovative thinking to solve problems. Homework: The homework is designed to consolidate the knowledge learned in class and extend the theme of innovation, which is divided into two parts: compulsory homework and optional homework. Compulsory homework: (1) Review the key words, phrases, and sentence patterns learned in this lesson, and write 10 sentences using these key points. (2) Rewrite the short paragraph written in class according to the teacher’s comments, and improve the quality of the writing. Optional homework: (1) Watch a TED speech about innovation in English, and write a short viewing report (about 150 words) to introduce the main content of the speech and your own feelings. (2) Investigate an innovative product around you, and describe its functions, characteristics, and impacts in English, and share it in the next class. This kind of homework design not only meets the basic learning needs of students but also takes care of the individual differences of students, encouraging students to carry out independent learning and exploration after class. In the whole teaching process, the teacher adheres to the student-centered teaching concept, combines viewing, speaking, reading and writing, and integrates the four-dimensional core literacy into each teaching link. Through rich and diverse teaching activities, students are guided to actively participate in the class, master the language knowledge related to innovation, improve their comprehensive language ability, and deeply understand the significance of innovation, so as to achieve the teaching goals of this lesson. 1 / 1 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
