Dear teachers and classmates, Today, I’d like to talk about whether AI helps or harms our English learning. In my opinion, AI is a helpful tool for our English learning rather than a harm. Firstly, AI can provide instant help, such as correcting our pronunciation and grammar mistakes quickly. It also offers rich learning resources, like English articles and listening materials, to meet different learning needs. Besides, AI allows us to practice speaking and writing anytime, which helps improve our skills efficiently. Of course, we should use AI properly instead of relying on it completely. With correct use, AI will become our good helper in English learning. Thank you! One hand lifts the ball high, and for a moment he seems lo hang in the air. Then he hammers the ball through the rim. Slam dunk! His career may look like a slam dunk, being a national champion at the University of Connecticut, and setting beginner records with the Toronto Raptors. However, life wasn’t always easy for him. His success is due to more than his ability to play basketball and he owes much of who he is today to a skin disease called alopecia areata, which is not infectious but is caused by an error in the immune system that triggers germ-fighting cells to attack the body’s own hair-growing cells. Charlie was affected at age 10 and lost all his hair by age 12. This made him a target for bullying, leading him to withdraw and hide under caps and hoods. With the support of his mother, Charlie found refuge in basketball. He channeled his frustrations and stress into motivation, improving his skills to the point where his talent overshadowed his condition. The bullying stopped, and his basketball career took off. All along the way, Charlie has consistently dedicated himself to helping others. Ever since his first year as a new player, he has served as a spokesperson for the National Alopecia Areata Foundation, and went on to establish the Charlie Villanueva Foundation, an organization aimed at supporting families with children suffering from alopecia and stopping all forms of bullying. As the son of immigrants from the Dominican Republic,he has even worked towards ending poverty in that country. Charlie inspires young people to embrace their individuality and have confidence in themselves. “We’re all unique in our own ways, “he says, encouraging them to remember that with dedication and self-belief,any dream is within reach. 24.Why is Charlie’s slam dunk mentioned in Paragraph 1? C Ancient Greece produced the earliest records of democracy and, scientists now say, lead pollution. That is the l\finding of a study that recently appeared in Communications Earth and Environment. The researchers studied sediment cores(沉积物岩芯) removed from mainland Greece and below the Aegean Sea. They found in the cores the oldest known evidence of lead pollution in the environment dating back around 5.200 years. That is 1,200 years older than the former oldest evidence of lead pollution. That evidence was discovered in Serbia. In ancient times, lead was released into the atmosphere as a product of copper and silver production. The toxic, or poisonous, metal turned to dust over time and settled onto the soil. Joseph Maran of Heidelberg University was a co-writer of the new study. “Silver was used for jewelry, for special objects—but it wasn’t found in a pure state. “it was mined in ore combined with lead, Maran said. The place with the earliest signs of lead is in northeastern Greece. near the island of Thasos.Past evidence suggests Thasos was one of the area’s most important places for silver mining and metalwork.said Maran. Yale hislorian Joseph Manning, who was not involved in the study, said “Lead released from smelting is the world’s first form of toxic or industrial pollution.” The researchers found that levels of lead contamination remained fairly low in ancient Greece. The levels remained low throughout the Bronze Age, the Classical period and the Hellenistic period. The Classical period is famous for Athenian democracy, and the thinkers Socrates and Plato. And the Hellenistic period saw Greek cultural influence reach its height across the Mediterranean. But the new study shows that around 2,150 years ago “a very strong and abrupt increase”in lead releases caused by human activities took place across Greece, said co-writer Andreas Koutsodendris of Heidelberg University. Around that time, the Roman army won control of the Greek peninsula, completely changing the area’s society and economy. As Roman trade, colonies and shipping grew across the Mediterranean Sea and Black Sea. demand for silver coins also grew. As a result, more smelting was required. Koutsodendris said. Later the Roman Empire used lead to make tools for eating and building, including pipes. Past research-including a study of ice cores from Greenland-had detected high levels of lead across much of the Northern Hemisphere during Roman times. But the new study adds a more exact “and local picture to how lead levels changed.” said Nathan Chellman. Chellman, an environmental scientist at the University of Nevada,Reno, was not involved in the research. 28.What does the finding about lead pollution in Greece suggest about previous evidence? A.It confirmed the exact time when lead pollution first appeared. B.It pushed back the earliest known lead pollution by 1,200 years. C.It proved that Serbia had the most severe lead pollution. D.It showed that lead pollution began in the Roman period. 29.What does the underlined word“abrupt”in paragraph 4 most likely mean? A.gradual B.sudden C.minor D.predictable 30.Why did lead pollution increase sharply around 2,150 years ago? A.Silver was used for making jewelry on a large scale. B.The Romans began using lead for eating tools and pipes. C.The Roman conquest increased demand for silver coins. D.Greek cultural influence reached its height in the Mediterranean. 31.What is the significance of the new study according to Nathan Chellman? D Despite decades of medical advances, detecting health-related molecule(分子)still relies on bodily liquids like blood, requiring blood draws from most patients, especially people with diabetes who need frequent finger pricks. However, researchers from the University of Chicago have developed a portable device named ABLE, which collects and detects molecules in the air. This 4×8-inch device is a potential game-changer for medicine and public health. Detecting molecules in the air has long fallen behind liquid detection, mainly because target particles(微粒) are extremely dilute —there may be only one in a trillion. To solve this problem, the team turned air into liquid. The device draws in air, adds water vapor with a humidifier, and cools it to turn air into small drops. These drops trap particles and slide into a small container, making detection easy with common tools used for liquid analysis. Early tests proved its effectiveness. It caught easily evaporated(挥发的)coffee vapor, detected glucose in breath, identified E.coli in the air,and found signs of inflammation(炎症)in mice with unhealthy gut bacteria. Obviously,it solved the problem of capturing molecules that evaporate easily—a major worry during the device's development. The device was first inspired by the need for non-invasive tests for premature babies in ICUs. These fragile babies are likely to have health problems, and repeated blood tests may put them in danger. Doctors hope the device can track health signs without taking blood, protecting these high-risk patients. It also shows promise for diagnosing inflammatory bowel disease, though the related breath signs first need to be recorded. The team plans to improve and make it smaller to create a wearable device for daily use. Besides medical uses, this achievement may open the door to new physics research on air pollutants and state changes of matter. As a new tool for detecting air chemistry,ABLE fills the space between air and liquid molecule analysis, creating possibilities for various new developments in healthcare and science. 32.Why did the researchers develop ABLE? A.To change medicine and public health. B.To take the place of blood tests in hospitals. C.To reduce finger pricks for patients with diabetes. D.To identify health molecules without liquid samples. 33.What can we infer about ABLE? A.It is small and wearable for daily use. B.It has overcome a key technical challenge. C.It has proved useful for newly born babies.D.It diagnoses inflammatory bowel disease easily. 34.Who will least likely benefit from ABLE? A.A chemist. B.A psychologist. C.A physician. D.A physicist. 35.What can be a suitable title for the text? A Tool for Bodily Liquid Analysis. B.A Tool for Airborne Particle Capture. C.A Device for Air Molecule Detection. D.A Device for Non-Invasive Health Checks. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 In today’s digital world, short-form videos have become an essential part of daily life, especially for teenagers. Some platforms have changed how we consume content, providing quick, interesting videos for our fast-paced lives. But why are these videos so attractive? 36 The following sections will explore the psychology(心理学)behind short-form videos, their impact on teenagers, and how to find a healthy balance. Short-form videos are designed to attract attention quickly.Studies show that the average human attention span has dropped to just 8 seconds, making it harder to focus on long content. 37 They also provide quick pleasure by releasing dopamine,a brain chemical linked to happiness and reward, which keeps viewers coming back for more. However, the appeal of short-form videos comes with risks. 38 In 2024, the term “brain rot” gained popularity to describe how watching too much low-quality online content may change the way our brain works, leading not only to poor concentration but also to anxiety. Moreover, the constant stream of information can limit deep thinking and connection with the world around us. 39 Setting time limits on device usage, choosing educational content, and taking part in offline activities are practical steps for teens. Parents can set good examples by reducing their own screen time. Schools can teach digital skills, helping students critically analyze content and manage their time online. Finally, short-form videos are not basically bad—they are tools that can be used wisely. By understanding their psychological appeal and managing usage mindfully, teenagers can enjoy the benefits of these platforms while avoiding their disadvantages. 40 A.The social aspect cannot be overlooked. B.These videos feed our brains’ demand for instant excitement. C.Finding balance ensures technology improves life, not controls it. D.It is not just a trend but is deeply rooted in psychological principles. E.And what are the possible risks of spending too much time on them? F.Over-consuming short-form videos can weaken long-term concentration. G.To overcome these challenges, teenagers, families, and schools can work together. 第三部分语言运用(共三节,满分50分) 第 一 节完形填空(共15 小题;每小题1分,满分15 分 ) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的 A、B、C、D 四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 Over the years, I have experienced different emotions in the world’s famous museums: boredom, exhaustion and some wonder.
