Thus, artists were not interested in painting realistic scenes. Their works were often primitive and two-dimensional, and the main characters were often made much larger than everyone else to show their importance. 1. As a result, painters concentrated less on religious themes. They began to adopt a more humanistic attitude to life. An important breakthrough during this period was the use of perspective by Masaccio (1401-1428). new ideas and values新的思想和价值观2.concentrate less on较少关注; concentrate on 集中注意力于...;关注… 3.adopt a more humanistic attitude to/towards life  对生活采取更人性化的态度 4.an important breakthrough重大进展 5.the use of perspective透视法的运用 Para 3 Influential painters such as Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519), Michelangelo (1475-1564), and Raphael (1483-1520) built upon Giotto and Masaccio’s innovations to produce some of the greatest art that Europe had ever seen. 1.influential adj 有很大影响力的;有支配力的 be influential in 对(做)某事颇有影响 have an influence on 对---有影响 2. build on/upon... 在...的基础上发展 to do 作结果状语 关系代词that引导定语从句修饰greatest art Para 4 Another innovation was the use of oil paints. With their deep colours and realism, some of the best oil paintings look like photographs. While painters as early as Da Vinci had used oil, this technique reached its height with Rembrandt (1606-1669), who gained a reputation as a master of shadow and light. 1.the use of oil paints 油画颜料的使用 2. deep colours and realism 浓郁的色彩与写实风格 3. look like photographs 看起来像照片 4. reach its height 达到顶峰 5. gain/earn/win a reputation as 获得… 6. a master of shadow and light 光影大师 while引导让步状语从句 Para 5 In subject matter, the emphasis increasingly shifted from religious themes to people and the world around us. Others wanted paintings showing important historical events or stories from mythology. Finally, most clients wanted paintings that were beautiful and interesting to look at 1. in subject matter 在题材方面 2. shift from...to... 从……转向…… 3. people of high rank 上流社会人士 4. purchase accurate pictures 购买逼真的画作 5. important historical events 重要历史事件 6. stories from mythology 神话故事 省略关系代词的定语从句 showing... 现在分词短语作后置定语,修饰paintings 关系代词that引导定语从句修饰paintings Para 6 Impressionism (late 19th to early 20th century) The development of Western art slowed until the invention of photography in the mid-19th century. After that, paintings were no longer needed to preserve what people and the world looked like. Hence, painters had to find a new way of looking at their art. From this, Impressionism emerged in France. 1. the invention of photography 2. a new way of looking at art 看待艺术的新方式 3. emerge in France 在法国兴起 Para 6 The name of this new movement came from the painting by Claude Monet (1840-1926) called Impression, Sunrise. In this work, Monet's aim was to convey the light and movement in the scene—the subjective impression the scene gave him—but not a detailed record of the scene itself. 1.convey light and movement 2. Monet’s aim was to convey... Para 7 While many Impressionists painted scenes of nature or daily life, others, such as Renoir (1841-1919), focused on people. Unlike the cold, black-and-white photographs of that time period, Renoir’s paintings are full of light, shadow, colour, and life. 【3】He sought to show not just the outer image of his subjects, but their inner warmth and humanity as well. 1. scenes of nature or daily life 自然或日常生活场景 2.focus on 聚焦于,集中 3. the cold, black -and- white photographs 4. be full of light, shadow, colour, and life充满了光、影、色彩和生命 5. seek to do sth. Para 7 【3】He sought to show not just the outer image of his subjects, but their inner warmth and humanity as well. not just...but…(as well)句型: 不仅(不但)… =not just...but (also)…/not only…but(also)… 注意:not A but B“不是A 而是B”,是否定 A 肯定 B 【翻译】妇女不仅被允许参与,而且发挥着非常重要的作用。 Women are not just allowed to join in but play a very important role as well. =Women are not only allowed to join in but also play a very important role. Para 8 Modern Art (from the 20th century to today) After Impressionism, subsequent artists began to ask, “What do we do next?” Painters such as Picasso (1881-1973) tried to analyse the shapes which existed in the natural world but in a new way, with Cubism. Others gave their paintings a realistic but dream-like quality. Still others turned to abstract art. 【4】What they attempted to do was no longer show reality, but instead to ask the question, “What is art?” 他们试图做的不再是展示现实,而是提出一个问题“什么是艺术?” 1. subsequent artists 后来的艺术家 2. a dream-like quality 梦幻般的质感 3.turn to 转向... 4.abstract art 抽象艺术 5.attempt to do sth 试图做某事 6.show reality 展示现实 1. _________________ 精准的定义 2. different styles of Western art __________________ 3. ___________________ 用简短文字描述某物 4. _____________________西方绘画的发展 5. over the centuries _______________ 6. teach people about Christianity ________________ 7. ___________________艺术的目的是…… 8.____________________写实绘画 9. primitive and two-dimensional _________________ 10. _______________________ 宗教主题 11. ______________________主要人物 12. ______________________ 情感冲击 默写作业一 13. _______________________ 尤其,特别 14. ________________________ 使与众不同 15. adopt a more humanistic attitude to life _______________ 16.___________________较少关注 17.____________________ 一项重要的突破 18. the use of perspective _____________ 19. ___________________ 基于创新发展 20. ___________________ 有影响力的画家 21. _____________________ 浓郁的色彩与写实风格 22. ____________________达到顶峰 23. ____________________获得… ___________________ 光影大师 1. __________________在题材方面 2. __________________从……转向…… 3. people of high rank ___________ 4. _____________________ 购买逼真的画作 5. ______________________重要历史事件 6. stories from mythology ____________ 7. a new way of looking at art _______________ 8. emerge in France _______________ 9. _____________________ 传达光线与动态 10.______________________莫奈的目的是去表达... 11. ____________________ 主观印象 默写 作业二 12. ________________________ 自然或日常生活场景 13. the cold, black -and- white photographs _______________ 14. ___________________________充满了光、影、色彩和生命 15. seek to do sth.
