W: Do they have swimming pools?
M: Well, the Water World has a huge pool for swimming and playing. The Adventure Park hasn’t got a pool, but it’s got a small zoo.
W: I’m not very fond of zoos. Seeing animals in cages makes me uncomfortable.
M: Well, there aren’t any animals at the Water World.
W: Okay, if we are going there, I’m going to take a picnic. I know they’ve got restaurants, but they are not cheap at all. I’d rather take our own food and drinks.

M: That was incredible, one of the most crazy moments ever.
W: How did you deal with the pressure at the Olympics?
M: I just try to tell myself, “OK, I’m going to focus on what I have to do, not thinking about how heavy this is...” Before I jumped, everyone gave me a high five, and my coach hugged me and said, “Just enjoy the moment and I love you.” At that moment I felt loved, so I just focused on what I was doing and believing in myself. You know, I can put this down.
W: Do you think your background as a child actor also helped?
M: Yes, definitely. I had the chance to perform in a number of films and TV series, which gave me the courage to face this big stage.

【Text 10】
W: I had a special experience last night. My car engine suddenly stopped in the middle of a deserted road. When I got out of my car to check the engine, I accidentally locked myself out of my car! I was very nervous and scared, given that the road was so dark and quiet. The only thing I could do was sit by the road and hope someone would come by and help me. Luckily, a man drove by after about 20 minutes. He stopped and asked if he could lend a hand. He let me use his cellphone to call the rescue service. He even waited with me, keeping me company until the truck for rescue service arrived. What a wonderful, helpful man! Before he left, I offered to pay him for helping me, but he refused. He said it was his pleasure to help out a lady in trouble. All I could do was thank him over and over again. If it had not been for him, I could have been in real trouble. I asked him for his number and promised to meet him and have dinner sometime. I got very lucky that night, thanks to the stranger.

B
Rounding my neighborhood park corner the other morning, I spotted a natural landscape for the first time. Several big branches of an old oak tree reached the ground, creating a unique green curtain. A table and benches inside made it an outdoor room. Its cool shade and privacy were ideal for reading or chatting. This scene, I told myself as I wandered home, was my new happy place.
Robert Frost’s famous poem “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” is about a traveler who pauses for a few moments beside a stretch of forest that’s “lovely, dark and deep”. The visitor wants to stay longer, but he’s pushed away by the prospect of “miles to go before I sleep”. This reveals the essence(本质) of happy places—that they draw us precisely because we can’t live within them indefinitely. Responsibility unavoidably calls us elsewhere.
My favorite writer, E.B. White, pointed to a comforting truth about the apparent short existence of happy places. Even when you can’t remain physically within a happy place, memory allows you to take it with you anywhere. “I have noticed that most men, when they enter a barbershop and must wait their turn, drop into a chair and pick up a magazine,” he wrote. “I simply sit down and pick up the thread of my sea wandering, which began more than fifty years ago and has not quite ended.” Like Mr. White’s imaginary return to the waves near his farm for the amazing particularity, his visions confirm that happy places are, at their best, real places we’ve known.
My office computer has cheerful screen savers, but they’re not my happy places. A true happy place is a personal landmark and, in the wonder of remembrance, a geography of the heart.
24.Why did the author consider the oak tree area a happy place?
A.It carried memories of the neighborhood.
B.It was within walking distance of his home.
C.It offered a practical place with natural privacy.
D.It provided cool shade for locals with big branches.
25.Why does the author quote Robert Frost’s poem?
A.To imply better scenery on the road.
B.To illustrate the feature of happy places.
C.To explain the boredom of travelling.
D.To recount a travel experience in the forest.
26.What did E.B. White emphasize about happy places?
A.Memories make them accessible.
B.Presence in the places is essential.
C.Coastal regions are universally ideal.
D.Visions distract people from reality.
27.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Happy Places: Natural Scenes
B.Past Memories: Avoidance of Reality
C.Natural Shelters: Ideal Places for Privacy
D.Happy Places: The lasting Memory of Brief Stops
C
At Jewell Hollow Overlook in Shenandoah National Park, the view stretches across miles of valleys and mountains. But Kris English, a trail(步道)specialist for the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, isn’t admiring the scenery. She’s focused on the dirt beneath her feet. Darker soil indicates dampness, which can wear away trails more quickly. Today, she’s teaching volunteers how to dig drains(排水沟) to protect the trail.
Using a tool, English carves a gentle slope(斜坡) to guide water down the mountain. Her crew follows suit, completing two more drains before a spring thunderstorm. Rain will now pack the dirt, preserving their work.
English’s training session in early May added more volunteers to the network of trail maintainers who preserve the Appalachian Trail, a 2,178-mile hiking route from Georgia to Maine. Each year, volunteers across 14 states donate hundreds of thousands of hours to keeping the trail sustainable and clean.
Now those trail maintainers are facing more challenges. As more and more people grow more mindful of their health, record numbers of people pour into the outdoors, often unaware of hiking rules. Litter and damage increased. Yet, volunteers persevered. The Potomac Appalachian Trail Club, which oversees 240 miles of the trail, logged 2,000 more volunteer hours last year than before.
“We want to make sure the trail can be enjoyed by future generations,” says Wayne Limberg, a district manager for the PATC. Trails, he explains, are a bond between humans and nature. They concentrate hikers onto a single path, minimizing environmental impact while maximizing access to nature. But this balance is delicate.
For volunteers like Limberg, who has maintained the Rose River Loop Trail for a decade, trail maintenance is a labor of love. “You always see something beautiful,” Limberg says.
28.What is Kris English’s main focus at Jewell Hollow Overlook?
A.Admiring the scenic view.
B.Studying the wildlife in the park.
C.Instructing volunteers to protect trails.
D.Measuring the height of the mountains.
29.What new challenge are trail maintainers currently facing?
A.A decrease in volunteer hours.
B.An increase in garbage and destruction.
C.A lack of tools for trail maintenance.
D.A reduction in the number of volunteers.
30.What is the goal of trail maintainers according to Wayne Limberg?
A.To attract more tourists to the trail.
B.To ensure the trail’s sustainability.
C.To create new trails in the national park.
D.To study the environmental impact of hikers.
31.Which of the following can best describe the trail maintainers?
A.Observant and down-to-earth. B.Enthusiastic but disorganized.
C.Professional but heartless. D.Ignorant and short-sighted.
D
Banff National Park is Canada’s first national park and was established in 1885. Located in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta, Banff includes 6,641 square kilometers of glaciers and ice fields, thick coniferous forest, and alpine(高山的) scenery. The Icefields Parkway spreads from Lake Louise, connecting to Jasper National Park in the north. Provincial forests and Yoho National Park are neighbors to the west while Kootenay National Park is situated to the south. The main commercial center of the park is the Town of Banff, in the Bow River valley.
The Canadian Pacific Railway was contributory in Banff’s early years, building the Banff Springs Hotel and Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise in the park and attracting tourists through widespread advertising. In the early 20th century, roads were built in Banff, at times by prisoners of World War Ⅰ, and through Great Depression-era public works projects. As Banff has over three million visitors annually, the health of its ecology has been endangered. In the mid-1990s, Parks Canada launched a two-year study to preserve ecological integrity.
Banff National Park has a subarctic climate(副极地气候) with three ecoregions. The forests feature the lodgepole pine at lower heights and the Engelmann spruce at higher ones below the tree line, above which are chiefly rocks and ice. Mammal(哺乳动物) species such as the grizzly bear, cougar, wolverine, moose and bighorn sheep are found along with hundreds of bird species. Reptiles(爬行动物) are also found but only a restricted number of species have been recorded.
The mountains were formed from sedimentary rocks(沉积岩) which were pushed east over newer rock formations, between 80 and 55 million years ago. Over the previous few million years, glaciers have at times covered most of the park, but today are found only on the mountainsides though they include the Columbia Icefield, the largest continuous glacial mass in the Rockies. Erosion(侵蚀) from water and ice has molded the mountains into their existing shapes.
32.What can we infer about Banff National Park?
A.It was built mainly by prisoners.
B.It is the oldest national park in Canada.
C.It is connected to three other provincial parks.
D.It failed to satisfy visitors’ demand for commercial activities.
33.What was a contribution of the Canadian Pacific Railway?
A.Building roads in Banff.
B.Constructing hotels in Banff.
C.Preserving the ecology of Banff.
D.Providing multiple railway lines for Banff.
34.What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.The biodiversity of Banff.
B.The limited knowledge of reptiles.
C.The complex climate system of Banff.
D.The mammals’ severe living conditions.
35.What does the underlined word “molded” in the last paragraph most probably mean?
A.Stuck. B.Broken. C.Formed. D.Followed.

There is a feeling of peace that washes over you when you step into a forest. 36 Li and Gary Evans, director of the Forest Bathing Institute in the U.K., talk in Life Kit about the science behind forest bathing and how you can obtain the health benefits.
The ideal place for forest bathing is a natural forest. But if you live far away from one, any place that has a lot of trees and quiet spaces will do. You can get beneficial effects from such places. 37 A 2022 study found that walking in a forest had a greater impact on cardiovascular(心血管的) function than doing so in an urban park.
To gain the rewards of forest bathing, plan to spend two to six hours in the woods, says Li. 38 If you can’t set aside a good part of your day to wander in a forest, you can also take shorter walks.
Your forest bathing session is a good time to walk or do some gentle activities such as yoga and tai chi. 39 “The difference between normal activities and forest bathing is that we’re going to move very slowly,” says Evans. Forest bathing is about calming you down and reducing your heart rate and blood pressure.
When you get to the forest or the park, find a spot that could be a clearing in the woods surrounded by a bunch of tall trees. 40 “Inhale(吸气) for a count of two and then exhale(呼气) for double the length of time. Then keep that going.” This particular breathing exercise has been shown to have benefits outside of the forest environment.
A.You can do sports like hiking or jogging.
B.Sit down and slow down your breathing.
C.But they won’t be as significant as walking in the deep woods.
D.It’s not the time to do hard exercise like running or weight training.
E.It simply connects with our senses of sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch.
F.Not only is “forest bathing” a way to explore nature, but it’s good for your health.
G.According to his research, forest bathing for that amount of time helps promote well-being.

Alan and the other campers sat around the fire, talking and laughing. It would be Alan’s first night in a tent, and he was excited, if a little nervous.
Then, the conservation area officer spoke,“Much of the wildlife in this region comes out only at night. So after supper, let’s start a night watch. Volunteers will take turns to stay down here by the fire, away from the tents. Those who take part will get a chance to see a different world.”
“Isn’t it dangerous?” someone asked.
“No, it’s quite safe,” the officer said. “There are no dangerous animals. Any volunteers?”
The kid who’d sat next to Alan on the bus volunteered.
Alan sat still.
Then one of the girls raised her hand.
“If a girl could do it, I could, too,” Alan thought. He volunteered. A few more kids raised their hands. Then the officer explained, “This is how it works. When the rest of you go to bed, the first watcher takes his or her place by the fire. The duty of the watcher is to keep the fire going. After thirty minutes, he or she wakes up the next person. Do you still want to volunteer?”
Alan nodded but felt a little nervous. Sleeping in a tent with other campers sounded OK, but the idea of being alone in the dark made him afraid.
The officer showed the order of the watch.
At ten past two in the morning, Alan found himself sitting by the fire, in a great world of darkness. He had never been so afraid. Alan had to turn off his flashlight(手电筒) because he had used it too often. He looked at the stars and the rising moon. It wasn’t as dark as he’d thought it would be. He took comfort in that and tried to relax a little.
Looking around, Alan thought he saw a large bird flying down through the air and wondered if it was an owl(猫头鹰). He saw small paw prints(爪印) in the sand by the river.
Then there was a noise.
Alan felt a rush of excitement.

A
根据Horniman Gardens部分的“Horniman Gardens cover 16 acres with breathtaking views of London.”以及Chiswick House & Gardens部分的“while admiring the beauty of the naturalistic landscape, spotted with impressive art and statues”可知,游客在Horniman Gardens和Chiswick House & Gardens都能欣赏美景。
根据Kew Gardens部分的“get your hands dirty by trying a gardening lesson”可知,如果游客想参加手工活动,他们应该去Kew Gardens。故选A。
根据第一段的“From a royal palace to a classical garden, we recommend great green spaces to escape the hustle and bustle of London.”
根据第一段中的“A table and benches inside made it an outdoor room. Its cool shade and privacy were ideal for reading or chatting. This scene, I told myself as I wandered home, was my new happy place.”
根据第二段最后两句“This reveals the essence of happy places—that they draw us precisely because we can't live within them indefinitely. Responsibility unavoidably calls us elsewhere.”
根据第三段第二句“Even when you can't remain physically within a happy place, memory allows you to take it with you anywhere.”可知,E.B. 故选A。
根据第一段最后一句“Today, she's teaching volunteers how to dig drains to protect the trail.”
根据第四段中的“...record numbers of people pour into the outdoors, often unaware of hiking rules. Litter and damage increased.”
根据第五段Wayne Limberg所说的“We want to make sure the trail can be enjoyed by future generations”可知,步道维护者的目标是让后代也能享受到这条步道,即确保步道的可持续性。
故选A。B.
根据第二段第一句中的“The Canadian Pacific Railway...building the Banff Springs Hotel and Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise in the park”可知,加拿大太平洋铁路公司在班夫国家公园的贡献是建设了两家酒店。
根据第三段中的“a subarctic climate with three ecoregions”“the lodgepole pine”“the Engelmann spruce”“Mammal species”“Reptiles”等关键信息可知,本段主要描述了班夫国家公园的生物多样性。故选A。

39.D 空前提到森林浴时段是散步或进行瑜伽、太极等温和运动的好时候,D项“它不是进行跑步或举重等剧烈运动的时候”与前文构成“is a good time to...It's not the time to...”

根据设空处前的“transport visitors”和设空处后的“every point of interest”可知,此处是“transport sb. to someplace”结构,意为“把某人送往某地”。故填to。

One possible version:
Then there was a noise. After hearing the noise, Alan's heart beat very fast. Something was out there in the darkness. Alan's mouth went dry. What was it? Slowly, he reached for his flashlight. Another sound, near the cooking pots. Alan turned on the flashlight. There, with a bone in its mouth was a creamy brown creature. It was about as big as his cat at home, but longer. Alan looked at it and the creature looked back. Then it was gone.
Alan felt a rush of excitement. Had it been real? Alan looked around. No more noises. He moved near the pots and saw small dog-like paw prints.Carefully, he used the pots to cover them. Not long after, he woke up the next camper for the night watch and managed to sleep a little. The next morning, the officer asked for reports. One girl said she had seen an owl. Most kids reported hearing noises.“I saw something,” said Alan, and he described it. It was the most unforgettable and exciting evening that he spent here.

After about twenty minutes, he stopped and asked if he could lend a hand. He let me use his cell phone to call the rescue service. He even waited with me, keeping me company until the truck for rescue service arrived. What a wonderful, helpful man. Before he left, I offered to pay him for helping me, but he refused. He said IT was his pleasure to help out a lady in trouble. All I could do was think him over and over again. If IT had not been for him, I could have been in real trouble.
