话题1 亲情与家庭
Passage 1
(24-25高二下·河北雄安·期中)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When my brother Jake left for college, gone was the laughter that once filled our home. Jake wasn’t just my brother — he was my best friend and the one who always knew how to pull me out of my darkest moods. His absence left a huge hole in my life, and no amount of video calls or texts could fill it. Then came the news: Marco, an exchange student from Italy, would be staying in Jake’s room.
“Marco? In Jake’s room?” I asked, my voice trembling. “But that’s his space.” My mom, trying to comfort me, said, “Marco’s excited to be here. You might even learn something new.” I wasn’t convinced. The idea felt like a betrayal (背叛), as if we were replacing Jake.
When Marco arrived, he was nothing like I had expected. He was tall, with dark curly hair and a confident smile that seemed to light up the room. He greeted me with a cheerful “Hello!” and immediately started unpacking his things. I stood awkwardly in the doorway, watching as he transformed Jake’s room into his own space. Overwhelmed (不知所措的), I whispered a quick “Hi” and returned to my room.
The first few days were tense. Marco, chatting with my parents about Naples, tried to include me, but I kept my distance. One evening, I overheard him talking about how much he missed playing soccer with his friends back home. “It’s not just a game,” he said. “It’s a way of life.” I rolled my eyes.
Then, one Saturday afternoon, everything changed. My parents had to attend a wedding out of town, leaving Marco and me in the house. I busied myself with my own things in my room, trying to avoid any interaction. But around midday, Marco knocked on my door. “Hey, I’m going to play some soccer in the backyard. Want to join me?” he asked. I hesitated. Soccer had never been my thing — I was more of a basketball person. But the thought of sitting alone in my room all day didn’t sound appealing either.

1. 续写词数应为150个左右;

That day marked a turning point in my relationship with Marco.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
Finally, I followed Marco into the backyard. The moment I stepped onto the grass, Marco tossed me a soccer ball with an encouraging grin. “Just try kicking it around,” he said. To my surprise, his enthusiasm was contagious. Though my first attempts were clumsy, Marco patiently showed me basic techniques, laughing when I tripped over my own feet. His lightheartedness eased my tension, and soon, I found myself actually enjoying the game. As we played, he shared stories about his hometown. For the first time, I saw Marco not as an intruder in Jake’s space, but as someone who, like me, was just trying to find his footing in a new place.
That day marked a turning point in my relationship with Marco. Soccer became our shared language. We started practicing regularly, and I even taught him some basketball moves in return. Slowly, the awkwardness between us faded. One evening, while watching a game together, Marco admitted, “I was nervous about coming here too. But having you as a friend made it easier.” His honesty struck me. I realized that while no one could replace Jake, Marco had carved out his own place in our home — and in my life.

At this time some expression of irritation (恼怒) was felt in the son’s tone when he said to his father with a rebuff (生硬回绝) . “It’s a crow , a crow.” A little while later, the father again asked his son the fourth time, “ What is this?”
This time, the son shouted at his father, “ Why do you keep asking me the same question again and again, although I have told you so many times ‘IT IS A CROW’. Are you not able to understand this?’
A little while later the father went to his room and came back with an old tattered (发皱的) diary, which he had maintained since his son was born. On opening a page, he asked his son to read that page. When the son read it, the following words were written in the diary:
“Today my little son aged three was sitting with me on the sofa, when a crow was sitting on the window. My son asked me 23 times what it was, and I replied to him all 23 times that it was a crow. Jack was a high school freshman, tall and thin, with a heart full of dreams. Jack’s father was a repairman who spent his days fixing cars, so his hands were always dirty. Jack’s father never said much, but his eyes always seemed to say, “I’m proud of you, son.” And Jack felt it in every nod. Their relationship was a quiet one, with an unspoken bond (纽带).
One day, Jack came home from school with a flyer (传单) in his hand. His eyes were bright with excitement as he showed it to his father. “Dad, there’s a school talent show next month, and I want to enter. I’ve been learning guitar for months,” Jack said to his father.
His father looked up from the engine he was working on. “You play the guitar?” he asked in surprise. Feeling a little embarrassed, Jack nodded, saying, “Yeah, I’ve been taking lessons. I think I’m ready.” His father cleaned his hands with a piece of cloth, looked at Jack and smiled, “I’ll be there, son. I wouldn’t miss it.” Through his father’s eyes, Jack knew he had his father’s support.
The days leading up to the talent show were more practice and anxiety for Jack. He would come home after school and lock himself in his room, the sound of his guitar echoing (回响) through the house. His father didn’t speak too much, but he would prepare delicious food and smiled at Jack whenever he saw his son. He would also quietly listen to the music from the living room. Although Jack felt tired or nervous sometimes, he felt pushed forward by unspoken love.
The day of the talent show arrived, and the school hall was filled with excitement. Jack’s hands were shaking as he prepared his guitar backstage. He looked out into the audience and found his father with a broad smile on his face.

【答案】As Jack stepped onto the stage, the lights dimmed (变暗) and the audience quieted down. Jack took a deep breath, trying to calm his nerves. He looked out at the sea of faces, his eyes landing on his father. With a final adjustment of his guitar, he began to play. His fingers danced across the strings, and the music filled the hall. At first, there was a slight tremble in his playing, but as he got lost in the melody, his confidence grew. The audience sat spellbound, and by the end of the performance, the hall erupted into thunderous applause. Jack felt a huge sense of relief and pride wash over him.
“I didn’t know you could play like that,” his father said. “You were great.” A big smile spread across Jack’s face. “Thanks, Dad. I couldn’t have done it without your support.” His father put his arm around Jack’s shoulders. “I always knew you had it in you, son. I’m so proud of you.” Jack realized that his father’s quiet presence and unspoken love had been the driving force behind his success. From that day on, their unspoken bond grew even stronger, and Jack knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, his father would always be there, silently cheering him on.

Passage 4
(24-25高二下·内蒙古包头·期中)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The first snowflakes of December floated down, painting the world outside Sarah’s window white. Inside, the cozy living room smelled of pine needles and cinnamon (肉桂皮). Twelve-year-old Sarah stood on a chair, carefully hanging handmade paper stars above the fireplace — a Christmas tradition her mother had started years ago. “Each star holds a wish, Mom used to say, her eyes twinkling as she lifted Sarah to place the highest one.”
This year, Sarah’s wish was simple: Bake gingerbread cookies with Dad, just like before. Her father, a truck driver often away for days, had promised. No work on Christmas Eve! We’ll make a mess in the kitchen, just you and me, he’d declared two days ago, kissing her forehead before heading out.
But now, heavy snow blurred the streetlights, and the clock ticked past 7 PM. Sarah’s phone buzzed—a text from Dad: “Traffic jam near Pineville. Home by 8! Don’t eat all the sprinkles (糖粉)!” She smiled, arranging cookie cutters in the shape of stars, trees, and reindeer. The recipe book, stained with chocolate from happier times, lay open on the table.
By 8:30 PM, the storm roared louder. News reports warned of closed roads and accidents. Sarah called Dad repeatedly, but his phone rang unanswered. She hugged her knees by the fireplace, staring at the photo on the mantel (壁炉台): Mom laughing and flour dusting her nose as Dad pretended to bite a half-baked cookie. After Mom’s passing away last year, Christmas had felt hollow. “This year has to be different,” Sarah thought.
Suddenly, a loud knock startled her. Through the frosted window, red and blue lights flashed—a police car! Sarah’s hands turned icy. “Was there an accident?” She stumbled to the door, her socks slipping on the wooden floor.

【答案】范文:
Paragraph 1: When she opened it, cold wind blew in. There stood her father, his hair sparkling with snowflakes and a tired but warm smile lighting up his face. Beside him, a police officer held a large box. “Merry Christmas, my little star!” Dad cheered, pulling her into a bear hug. The officer explained how Dad had stopped to help dig out a family whose car was buried in snowdrifts. The box, Sarah discovered, was filled with cookies and thank-you notes from the family. But her breath caught when she spotted the white bandage wrapped around father’s reddened palm. “Don’t worry. It’s not serious,” father said. “Now, let’s go to the kitchen to make Christmas cookies”.
或Paragraph 1: When she opened it, cold wind blew in. Behind the police officer stood Dad, his coat covered with snowflakes. His face was red from the cold, but his eyes showed relief. “We found him stuck in deep snow,” the officer said. Sarah jumped into her father’s arms, her frozen fear melting into warm tears. Dad told her his truck couldn’t move in the heavy snow, and his phone had died after trying to call for help. “But I kept remembering our cookie promise,” he said softly, his voice shaking Then they thanked the policeman and went into the kitchen.
Paragraph 2: That night, they baked cookies in the kitchen. Using Mom’s old recipe book, Dad read the steps aloud, pretending to forget them until Sarah giggled. They cut out star-shaped cookies with shaky edges and reindeer missing antlers. Flour covered the table and their clothes, but they didn’t care. When the cookies were ready, Dad placed one shaped like a star next to Mom’s photo on the mantel. Outside, the snow had stopped, and moonlight lit the quiet street. Sitting by the fire eating warm cookies, Sarah leaned against Dad’s shoulder. She realized her Christmas wish hadn’t been about perfect cookies — it was about Dad’s arms around her, making their broken world feel whole again.

Passage 5
(24-25高二下·浙江杭州·期中)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Mama’s Soup Pot
There are too many treasures in life we take for granted, the worth of which we don’t fully realize until they’re pointed out to us in some unexpected way. So it was with Mama’s soup pot.
Mama’s soup was special because there was no recipe for it. It had been so since her girlhood in Italy, where she learned its secret from her grandma, who had inherited (继承) it from generation to generation. Also, it was a symbol of security. For our large immigrant family, Mama’s soup guaranteed we would never go hungry. And we could judge our economic conditions by its contents.
At one time, however, Mama’s soup pot became a source of embarrassment to me, for I feared it would cost me a new friend I had made at school. Sol was an unusual pal for me because his father was a doctor and they lived in the best part of our town. Often Sol invited me to his home for dinner, where I found the food was good but tasteless, lacking the heartiness of the one served from my mom’s flame-blackened pots. Moreover, the atmosphere matched the food and everything was so formal. Sol’s mother and father were polite, but the conversation around the table was not natural, which made me a little depressed. And no one hugged!
In my family, warm hugs were a constant-men, women, boys and girls-and if you didn’t kiss your mother, she demanded: “What’s the matter? You sick?” But at that time in my life, all this was an embarrassment.
I had known Sol would like to eat dinner at my house, but that was the last thing I wanted. My family was so different. No other kids had such pots on their stoves, nor did they have a mama whose first action upon seeing you enter the house was to sit you down with a spoon and bowl.
One day, Sol pointedly asked if he could come to my house. I had to say yes.

But Sol quickly finished his bowl and asked for one more.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 The day Sol came over I was very nervous. Mama and the other family members welcomed him with embraces. Soon after sitting at the heavy, deeply stained table, we were instantly faced with bowls of soup. “Sol,” Mama asked, “you know what this is?” “Soup?” Sol responded. “Not soup,” Mama said emphatically. “It’s minestrone!” She then launched into a long explanation of the power of minestrone: how it cured headaches, colds. And Mama even said the soup would make Sol strong. I was so embarrassed, convinced that this would be the last time I would ever see my friend Sol.
But Sol quickly finished his bowl and asked for one more. His initial hesitation gave way to genuine enjoyment. And as the evening progressed, I saw him relax, his rigid posture melting away in my family’s easy atmosphere. When we were saying our good-byes, Sol confided, “You sure have a great family.” Then he added, “Boy, you are lucky!” Lucky? I wondered. Suddenly, it dawned on me that true wealth wasn’t measured in polished silver or spotless kitchens. It was found in the simple joys of family, laughter, and a steaming bowl of Mama’s minestrone soup.

Passage 6
(24-25高二下·江西景德镇·期中)阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I’d always been told to take care of my older brother, Brian, who was born weak and small. I’d often tie his shoes or prepare another glass of water for him. My mom saw my larger size and strong body as a sign that I was to be a kind of guardian angel (守护天使) for Brian. However, that was not the case.
One day our school sponsored a pumpkin-carving contest. First prize was $100, and I knew just how I would spend it. There was a brand-new game I was dying to own. So I decided the first place bonus definitely had to land in my pocket.
When I had to carve the perfect pumpkin I’d picked out, it dawned on me that with my big clumsy fingers I’d surely screw it up (搞砸). I thought of Brian’s smaller, delicate hands and knew he was the man for the job. I immediately begged Brian. Unexpectedly, he asked for a cut. That was fifty-fifty. Quickly doing the math in my head, I figured out even if I split (分摊) the first prize, I’d still have enough cash for the game. So I gave in to Brian’s demands. With skillful hands Brian carved the perfect face, and now we had the best pumpkin ever.
Then the unexpected happened: We came in second. Unfortunately, second prize was only $50, and I needed every penny of that to buy the game. The day of the awards ceremony, the principal handed over the money to me because Brian was home, sick with cold.
If he really wanted to win, he would have been here today, I thought to myself, justifying stealing the cash from under poor Brian’s runny nose. With hardly a thought, I ran to the store and bought my dream game. That night when Brian asked if we had won, I denied, afraid to look into his eyes.
The whole thing was never mentioned again until the day when Brian was packing for college. I played my usual role in helping him pack when I came across an old album filled with photos he had taken as the school photographer.

Paragraph 2:
“You actually knew and didn’t say anything?" I was shocked.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Paragraph 1:
I was enjoying the photos when one caught my eye. It was a picture of the pumpkin we had carved together. Underneath, Brian had written, “My first real win with my brother. Even if we didn’t get first, it was a victory because we worked as a team.” Seeing those words, a wave of guilt washed over me. I remembered how I had selfishly taken all the money and lied to him. I realized how much I had let him down. I turned to Brian, ready to confess everything.
Paragraph 2:
“You actually knew and didn’t say anything?” I was shocked. Brian just smiled gently and said, “I always knew. But I also knew that you needed that game more than the money at that time. And I was proud of our teamwork, not the prize. I hoped one day you’d understand the real meaning of winning together.” His words made me feel even more ashamed. I apologized sincerely, vowing to make it up to him. From then on, I truly understood my role as his guardian angel and the importance of true brotherhood.

话题2 个人成长与励志
Passage 1
(24-25高二下·江西上饶·期中)阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
Last semester, a new classmate named Lily transferred to our school. Hailing from a small town, she had a distinct accent when speaking English, which initially made some of us secretly laugh at her. She seemed like a fish out of water in our big city school.
At first, Lily was keenly aware of the giggles and whispers behind her. She would turn red with embarrassment whenever she mispronounced a word in class and heard the gentle laughs from her classmates. There were times when she would keep silent during group discussions, not because she had nothing to say, but because she was afraid of being laughed at again due to her accent. However, instead of letting the mockery beat her, these experiences became the fuel for her determination. She shared with me one day, her eyes showing a blend of pain and firmness, “In my hometown, English teaching resources were scarce. But I have always been attracted to the language. I watched English movies and TV programs, dreaming of speaking as smoothly as the characters. Here, I thought I could finally make this dream a reality, but I didn’t anticipate the teasing. Yet, this just makes me more resolute. I want to prove to everyone that an accent can’t determine my ability to master the language.”
One day, an English speech contest was announced. To everyone’s astonishment, Lily signed up. She came to me with a determined look and said, “I’ve always dreamed of speaking English well, and this is my chance to prove myself. I know it will be an uphill battle, but I’m fully prepared to put in the hard work.”

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 From that day on, she devoted herself wholeheartedly to preparing for the contest. She spent countless hours in the school library, poring over books on public speaking and collecting materials for her speech. Every day after school, she would find an empty corner in the campus and practice speaking aloud. She recorded her own voice and listened to it repeatedly, trying to correct every tiny flaw in her pronunciation. She also asked me to be her audience, and she would patiently accept my suggestions and make improvements. Her perseverance and dedication were truly inspiring, and gradually, I could see a significant improvement in her English skills.
Finally, the day of the contest arrived. Lily walked onto the stage with a calm and confident look. Her voice was clear and resonant as she began her speech. Although her accent was still there, it no longer seemed like a shortcoming but rather a unique feature that added a special charm to her speech. The audience was deeply moved by her story of struggle and determination. When she finished her speech, the whole hall burst into thunderous applause. In the end, she won the first prize. Her success not only proved her own ability but also made us realize that we should never judge others by their accents or origins. We all learned a valuable lesson from her.

Passage 2
(24-25高二下·福建泉州·期中)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成篇完整的短文。
“Surprise!” was the first thing I heard when I opened the door. My family and friends were all smiling at me. There were colorful balloons all over the house, a big poster saying “HAPPY BIRTHDAY”, and of course a cake with 12 candles. It was a wonderful feeling, I knew that I had finally turned twelve and I might possibly get the thing I wanted most.
I saw my mom and dad coming towards me with a small box which seemed to be a birthday present. When I opened the box, I couldn’t believe my eyes. I had really gotten a mobile phone! Throwing myself into their arms, I let out a cry of joy, “Thank you! I love you guys!” “You’re welcome. We knew this was going to make you happy but we didn’t only get you this because you turned twelve, but also because you are doing well in school. We expect you to keep getting good grades.” “Of course I will.” I said confidently.
As soon as I got to school the next morning, I was showing off my phone and asking everyone for their number. It was cool how I got so many contacts on the first day. It felt like I didn’t even exist in that class anymore. I wouldn’t pay much attention to the teachers because 1 was too busy on my phone. However, I didn’t get caught using it.
I am pretty sure that the teacher did notice that I stopped paying attention to her because a week later we took a test and I failed. What was worse, my mom had to sign the test.
It was hard to show my mom the test. She was used to seeing A’s and B’s on my tests. Finally, I showed it to her, and she couldn’t believe it. She was angry but most of al, she was disappointed.

From that day, I had a different opinion towards phones.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Realizing why I failed, my parents started to dislike that I had a phone. They said they had noticed that I never paid attention to them. It was like I had my own little world. So they thought we didn’t communicate as much with my phone. They regretted having given me a phone, which made me ignore the family and study. Then I started to wonder if I was wrong. A week later I tried going a whole day without a phone and it didn’t go that badly. I had so much fun because I was actually spending time with my family and paying attention to them.
From that day, I had a different opinion towards phones. Phones really take you away from the rest of the world. I am not saying that phones are bad and not to use them, but you do have to spare some time to spend with your family and not get stuck with your phone all day.

“Who wants to show us their special project first?” Mrs. Williams asked my fourth-grade class. She always gave us chances to earn extra points. For this project, we were allowed to do anything, as long as we did it ourselves.
I burrowed my head in my sweater, just like my turtle. Don’t call on me. Don’t call on me.
“Ava, you look ready. Come on up,” Mrs. Williams said. Ava skipped! Unlike me, she just loved talking in front of people. She showed us how to wire potatoes so they produced electricity. Potatoes! Her dad was an engineer, and I wondered how much of the project he had helped her with. But it was cool, and I told her so when she passed my desk.
My buddy Jayce got called on next. He was so nervous that the skin on his neck was raspberry red. He demonstrated the Unpoppable Bubble. The class got to bat the bubble around and it didn’t pop. “You’ve got this,” I gave him a thumbs-up.
“Michael, your project, please.”
Michael. That was me! I hadn’t even raised my hand. I guess I forgot to keep my head buried. I walked to the front of the class on wobbly legs and set my birdhouse on the table. “This is how to build a birdhouse,” I began.
“Look at your audience, Michael,” Mrs. Williams called from the back of the room. She had reminded everyone who had come up so far. I swallowed the baseball-size lump in my throat and started again.
“I looked online for plans to build a birdhouse. Then I went to the lumberyard (木厂) with my dad, since I’m not old enough to drive.” (The class laughed at that.)“Someone there cut four pieces using the measurements I gave them for the walls, then they used a jigsaw (锯) for the hole.”
Luka’s hand shot up. We were supposed to take questions if anyone had them. Luka was my friend, but he always asked a billion questions. “So if someone at the lumberyard cut the wood and made the hole, and your dad drove you there, what did you do?” He asked.

【答案】范文
The lump in my throat was now the size of a basketball. I fumbled with the edge of my shirt, trying to find the words. “I... I sanded every piece of wood for hours,” I managed to say, my voice cracking. “I wanted it to be safe for birds, so I made sure there were no splinters. Then I mixed the blue paint myself — added a little white to make it lighter, like the sky.” My hands trembled as I pointed to the roof. “I also drew the design for the roof slope and checked the measurements three times so rain wouldn’t leak in. And when the hammer slipped and hit my thumb, I kept going.” A few kids nodded, and Ava gave me a small smile.
I looked up to see if Luka was watching as I gave the nail a mighty hit. He was, and his eyes lit up. “Nice one!” he shouted. The class cheered, and I felt a rush of courage. “See?” I said, holding up the birdhouse. “I chose the nail sizes, too — small enough to not split the wood, but strong enough to hold it together.” Mrs. Williams stepped forward. “Michael, your project shows something important: taking pride in every step, even the hard ones. That’s all your own work.” I grinned, suddenly glad I’d stood up there. Maybe next time, I wouldn’t hide my head like a turtle.

One day, I was taking a summer class in American literature on the campus of The State University of New York at Oneonta. Professor James walked into the classroom and announced that he had invited a special guest to class, but his guest had been delayed. The class stirred with curiosity and anticipation.
“Who is coming?” someone asked. “All I will tell you is that he is the author of one of the books you have read for this class,” he said. “I need a volunteer to meet him and guide him here.”
To my amazement, my right hand shot up. I never volunteer for anything. I’m introverted(内向的), shy, and uncomfortable meeting new people. In fact, I’m absolutely the wrong person for the job. Realizing my mistake, I put my hand down quickly, but it was too late.
“Thank you, David,” said Professor James. “You’d better leave now. He will be arriving any minute.” Seeing no way to back out, I reluctantly got out of my seat and headed for the classroom door. When I reached it, I stopped. “Umm,” I said. “If I don’t know who this person is, how will I recognize him? I would hate to bring back the wrong guy.” Professor James laughed. “Good point,” he said. He pulled me aside and whispered a name in my ear. “Alex Haley,” he said. “Really?” I said.
I regretted for volunteering. Why me? Alex Haley is one of the authors of The Autobiography of Malcolm X : As Told to Alex Haley. He is so famous. As I walked across the campus, my anxiety grew. I feared that I was about to embarrass myself in front of the famous gentleman by asking stupid questions, or worse, by guiding him in painful silence.
But at the moment I realized why I instinctively raised my hand to volunteer for this job. The man was what I wanted to be: a writer. I could learn from him.

【答案】 I paced back and forth until a man with a briefcase(公文包) entered the building. I approached him, asking if he was Alex Haley. He nodded politely. I introduced myself to him. My heart pounded. However, after talking with him briefly, I was struck by how approachable he was. My fear was replaced by curiosity and admiration. I told him I wanted to be a writer, but I didn’t know if I had the talent. He laughed and said, “There is no magical gift. Put in the work. Write every day, and don’t give up until you succeed.”
Encouraged by Mr Haley, I stopped worrying whether I had the talent for writing. Instead, I started accumulating writing materials and practised writing every day. Whatever happened, I stuck to my initial aspiration and kept in the right track. Within two years, I published three stories in national children’s magazines. I have been writing and publishing ever since. Had I not volunteered to meet this extraordinary man, I would never have received the benefit of his wise advice and the rewards that followed.

The school sports meeting was in full swing. The most anticipated event, the 4x100-meter relay race, was about to start. Tim, a passionate and athletic student, was part of his class’s relay team. Along with his teammates—Mark, Jack and Alex, he had trained intensively for weeks, nurturing high hopes of winning the gold medal.
The atmosphere was electric as the runners took their positions. The starting gun fired, and Mark took off like a bolt of lightning, his powerful strides eating up the track. He smoothly handed the baton(接力棒)to Jack. Jack sprinted(冲刺)ahead with all his might, skillfully maintaining their lead. Then, it was Tim’s turn. As Jack approached at top speed, Tim reached out eagerly for the baton. But in his over-enthusiasm, he miscalculated the distance, and to his horror, the baton dropped to the ground. Time seemed to stand still as Tim stared at the baton, his heart pounding.
He quickly snatched it up and dashed forward, but the precious seconds lost had put them behind the other teams. Alex did his absolute best in the final leg, pushing himself to the limit, but they ultimately crossed the finish line in fourth place, narrowly missing out on the medals.
The disappointment on the team’s faces was obvious. Tim felt as if a heavy weight had settled on his shoulders. He couldn’t bring himself to look at his teammates, consumed by guilt. He replayed the moment of the dropped baton over and over in his mind, each time wishing he could turn back the clock. Mark, usually the most talkative, was silent, his eyes downcast(低垂的). Jack shook his head in frustration, muttering something under his breath. Alex just looked at the ground, his shoulders low. Without a word, they started walking back to the changing room, leaving Tim alone on the track, filled with self-blame.

【答案】
Tim knew his mistake had cost the team dearly. He couldn’t help but blame himself for the failure. As he sat on the edge of the track, tears of frustration welled up in his eyes. He thought about all the hard work and dedication they had put into training, and how it had all seemed to be in vain because of his one moment of carelessness. He wondered if his teammates would ever forgive him, and if he would ever be able to make up for what he had done.
Just then, Mark, Jack, and Alex appeared. They walked up to Tim and sat down beside him. Mark placed a comforting hand on Tim’s shoulder and said, “Hey, it’s not your fault. These things happen. We’re a team, and we all make mistakes.” Jack nodded in agreement, adding, “We didn’t lose because of you. We lost because we didn’t work together well enough in that moment. Let’s learn from this and come back stronger next time.” Alex smiled and patted Tim on the back, saying, “We’re still proud of you, and we know you’ll do better next time. We’re in this together.”

Mo was waiting in the corridor outside her class. She was feeling sick. She had two exams that day and physics was first. She really hated physics. It was her worst subject. Terry looked back at her from the front of the line, and then looked away quickly. Mo thought she looked guilty. She didn’t have a problem with physics; she didn’t have a problem with anything... Miss Perfect!
“Hi, Mo, it’s your favourite exam today,” said Nina, laughing as she joined the line. Terry was looking at Mo again. “So what’s wrong with her?” asked Nina. “I thought you were friends.” “Yes, so did I,” said Mo. “But she hasn’t spoken to me for two weeks now. She promised to help me review for the physics exam too, but then she’s ignored all my calls and texts. And when I rang her house, her mum just told me she was busy.” said Mo angrily. At that time, Mr Reed asked all the students into the exam room.
Mo couldn’t answer question number five. She looked up and saw Terry sitting two rows in front of her. Mo couldn’t believe it! Terry was holding her phone on her knees under the table and reading from it. Is that how Terry always got such good grades? She felt really angry at Terry, but she didn’t know what to do. She thought about telling the teacher, but what would everyone else think of her? “Stop writing and put your pens down.” said Mr Reed as he started to collect the exam papers.
Mo wanted to talk to Terry at lunch time, but she couldn’t find her anywhere. The next exam was history. That was Mo’s favourite subject but she wasn’t feeling good. Mo went to the library to study, but she couldn’t concentrate. “It wasn’t fair!” she thought. “Terry was getting good grades by cheating all that time,” thought Mo. Just then, Mr Reed walked past her table. “Mr Reed.”
Mo was sitting behind Terry again in the history exam that afternoon. Mo was feeling terrible. Why had she told Mr Reed? But it was too late now. And anyway, Terry didn’t want to be her friend! Mr Reed wanted her to look at her and nod if she saw that Terry was cheating in the exam.

【答案】One possible version:
She was working on the last question when she saw that Terry have her phone under the table. Mo looked up and nodded to Mr. Reed. Terry was too busy looking at her phone and she didn’t hear him as he walked silently up to her table. Mr Reed didn’t say anything. He just picked up her exam paper, and told Terry to leave the room. Terry was crying as she walked to the door. Everyone was staring at her and Mo felt really guilty now.
Mo was walking towards the school gate, when she saw Terry. “Mo, I want to talk to you.” Mo could see that Terry had been crying, her face was pale and her eyes were red. Mo couldn’t say a word. “Listen,” said Terry. “I’m really sorry I haven’t answered any of your calls, but we’re having a terrible time at home. My dad had a heart attack two weeks ago and he’s in hospital. He had a big heart operation today and I was very worried about him. I was reading texts from my mum to see how the operation was going. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you what was happening. I haven’t forgotten that you’re a good friend. Will you forgive me?”

Passage 1
(24-25高二下·四川绵阳·期中)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给两段段落开头语,续写第一段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
注意:只需续写第一段,词数为100左右;注意一二两段的衔接。
Peter woke up early in the morning. He went downstairs in a hurry and started to have his breakfast as quickly as possible.
“Why are you in such a hurry, early bird?” Mum asked him. “We will have an English spelling test today, Mum,” Peter said. “Mr. White promised to offer prizes to those who get 100 scores. I’ve been studying the word list since last week. Although the words are difficult, I am well prepared for them.”
Peter reviewed the spelling of each word once more carefully when Dad drove him to school. At last, it was time for the students to have a test. “Responsibility,” Mr. White started. Peter wrote it on his test paper quickly and confidently.
“The second word: contribution,” Mr. White said.
“So easy,” Peter thought. He quickly wrote the word down.
Thirty words later, the test papers were collected by Mr. White. “I am to mark your papers now,” he told the class. After marking the test papers, Mr. White said, “three of you won a prize today for excellent test scores. Peter, David and Mary got 100 percent on the spelling test!”
Mr. White praised them. Meanwhile, he gave the three students each a dictionary. Peter’s was an English-Chinese dictionary — the one he liked best. Peter was so excited that he held it high when his classmates cheered. “This is my happiest moment,” Peter thought.
After Mr. White gave the test paper back, Peter had a look at the words, feeling proud of his spelling. All of a sudden, the word “contribution” confused him. It didn’t seem right. Peter began to compare them after taking out the word list. “C-o-n-t-r-i-b-u-s-i-o-n,” he whispered. He had spelled it wrong.
“What am I to do?” Peter said to himself. “I expect my classmates to think I’m a master in spelling. If I tell Mr. White one of my spelling words is wrong I’ll have to give my prize back, or I will become an example for telling a lie”.
Staring at the red sign “100%” which was written at his test paper, Peter was lost in thought. After a while, he remembered a lesson Mum used to teach him, “We ought to be an honest person.”

Paragraph 2:

【答案】
Slowly, Peter raised his hand. “Mr. White, I didn’t get full marks on the test. I made a mistake.” He stood up and handed his teacher the dictionary he liked best and his test paper. He said, “I spelled contribution with ’s-i’ instead of ‘t-i’.” Peter could feel his classmates looking at him with surprise as he walked back to his desk. To his surprise, Mr. White held up Peter’s testpaper. “Class,” he said, “Peter did something even more important than spelling every word correctly in a test.” Mr. White smiled at Peter, adding that Peter taught us all a lesson on being honest.

Kindness Is Precious
The sound of glass breaking is instantly recognizable. I’d been telling my best friend Missi a silly story and had spun (急转身) around in the living room when I heard that sound and froze.
When I looked down at the floor, it was full of tiny red, pink and clear glass pieces. Missi said fearfully, “Oh, no, not the vase.”
“Why? What did I do?” My face reddened.
“Amy, that glass vase was one of the few items my grandparents had passed down to my mum through generations in my family,” Missi replied nervously. “If you’d broken anything else in the apartment, I would have gladly said I did it. But you’re going to have to tell my mom that it was your fault, and she’s going to be really mad.”
I was terrified. I’d destroyed a priceless vase. Why did I have to spin around like that?
We gathered up the broken pieces. I kept saying that maybe it could be fixed, but Missi said gently that it didn’t look possible. I insisted we keep the pieces. But the glass was so delicate that some of it broke even more as we tried to sweep it up carefully.
Missi said her mom would be home at any time. I had got a few butterflies in my stomach. Would her mom criticise or punish me? Would she tell me I couldn’t stay in their apartment for the weekend? I couldn’t stop recalling those fifteen seconds in my mind, me spinning fast and the sound of glass crashing. The only thing I could think of to say was “I’m sorry.”
A couple of minutes later we heard a key turn in the door. Her mom was home. Right from the start, we could see she was in a good mood. “Hello! It’s hot today. I want to treat you girls to that frozen yogurt. Let’s go!” her mom said, pointing at the open door.

【答案】范文
“Before that, I need to tell you something really important,” I said. “We can talk at the yogurt place,” her mom smiled. “No, I need to tell you now. It’s important,” I insisted. “What is it, dear?” she gently asked, closing the door and walking closer to me. Our hands almost touched. “I’m sorry,” I blurted out. “I ... I was talking and laughing with Missi when I spun around and accidentally broke the vase.” I further explained that we saved the pieces but tried in vain to fix it.
Her mom looked at me, saying nothing for what felt like forever. Suddenly, she embraced me, kissing me on both cheeks. “Oh, thank you! I always hated that ugly vase. Now it’s gone! You’ve done me a huge favor!” her mom exclaimed with delight. Although relieved to have apologized, I was still in shock, for this was not at all the reaction I had expected. It wasn’t until I reached my adult years that I recognized what a profound gift her mother’s generosity in welcoming my apology was.

It was a very cold morning as it had been raining very heavily the previous night. As my mother was feeling a little under the weather, my sister volunteered to drive me to school. I had overslept and as a result, was running a bit late for school. We got into the car hurriedly. The road was already crowded with traffic. It appeared that everyone was late as well.
My sister was a careful driver and despite the fact I was already late, she refused to drive fast on the slippery road. I was lucky she was such a determined and careful person because a few hundred meters away from the school, we witnessed a tragic accident. It all happened very quickly,
A car had made a left turning without signaling and as a result, a school bus crashed into it. A few cars behind the school bus rammed (猛撞) into the bus as they could not brake in time and soon it became a pile-up. The already crowded road became jammed with vehicles that came to a crawl.
I told my sister that I wanted to help the victims and she nodded silently. She parked the car not too far from the accident spot.
The scene that greeted us was something I would never forget. It left an unforgettable impression in my mind to date. The passengers on the school bus were injured. 1 rushed into the bus and saw the driver laid slumped(瘫倒) on the wheel. He had injuries on the head. My sister helped him down from the bus.

【答案】I told the injured school children to stay calm. Most of them appeared to suffer from minor cuts and bruises on their arms and bodies. It was really fortunate that nobody was badly hurt. By then a few adults had entered the bus and together we instructed the children to come out of the bus slowly. The children were crying and screaming for their parents and we had to hug them to keep them quiet.
Minutes later, two ambulances arrived. A traffic police car was there too. Two policemen were taking down statements from eye-witnesses. The injured were whisked away to the hospital. My sister and I later gave an account to the police about what had happened. I was late for school. In fact, many drivers were also late for their work. I informed my teacher of the accident and both felt that it could have been prevented if the drivers had been more careful.

Passage 2
(24-25高二下·江西上饶·期中)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
On Sunday,Nicholas, a teenager, went skiing with his father at Sugarloaf Mountain in Maine. They had a wonderful day and decided to drive home to Massachusetts after a final run. They took a chairlift to the top of the mountain, where they split up to go down in different trails. When the father finished his run, he headed to the parking lot to wait for his son. However, Nicholas never showed up.
It turned out that a fierce snowstorm had swept into the area as Nicholas was on his way down. Unable to see far, he accidentally turned off the path and ventured down the west side of the mountain. Before he knew it, Nicholas was lost and all alone. His way back to the ski trails was blocked. What's worse, he didn't have any food or water with him, let alone his cell phone or other supplies. The sun began to sink and he was getting colder by the minute.
Nicholas had no idea where he was. He tried not to panic. He thought about Bear Grylls' survival show Man vs. Wild that he used to watch on TV. In the show, Grylls is abandoned in a wild area and has to help himself out. It was time to put the tips he had learned to use.
He decided to stop moving around. He needed the energy, and the winds weren't as strong in the valley where he stood as they were up on the mountain. Plus, there was a better chance of someone finding him if he stayed put. The first thing he did was to seek shelter from the freezing wind and snow. Using his skis, Nicholas built a snow cave. He gathered a huge mass of snow and dug out a hole in the middle. Then he piled branches on top of himself, like a blanket, to stay as warm as he could.
When evening came, Nicholas was really hungry. He ate some snow and drank some water from nearby stream so that he wouldn't dehydrate (脱水)。 Then he returned to his cave and slept.
Paragraph 1:
When Nicholas didn't show up, his father realized there must be something wrong.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2:
The next day,Nicholas heard the sound of a snowmobile.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 When Nicholas didn't show up, his father realized there must be something wrong. The father contacted the police, and a search team was gathered to look for the missing teenager. Although the weather condition was poor and the wind was still fierce, they didn't lose hope of finding Nicholas alive. However, they knew the clock was ticking, and Nicholas stood a better chance of survival the earlier they found him.The team split up,and one of the searchers who knew the area better decided to sweep a mountain trail he used to hike up.
The next day, Nicholas heard the sound of a snowmobile. He went out and followed the sound to find help. He had walked for about a mile when he heard someone calling his name. He moved towards the sound, and sure enough,a few minutes later, he came face to face with the searcher. Despite feeling weak,Nicholas was generally in a good condition, and he was really happy as he was carried back to the ski resort to reunite with his family.

For most people, adopting a pet is one of the best decisions that they can ever make in their lives. In addition to giving an animal a permanent (永久的) home and a loving family, the owner will find the company of a pet brings more happiness than expected.
For someone like Maria Luiza Valcazara, having a pet was very suitable. She was all alone after moving to a new apartment in Brazil, and her solitary (独居的) life made her feel lonely.
So when she found a cute black puppy named Chips, she knew she had to take him home. Maria thought that Chips would be able to fill the emptiness that she had been experiencing from living all alone.
Maria was right. Once she took the puppy home, they immediately bonded. However, as Maria had to work during the day, she was worried about leaving Chips home alone in her apartment. She was also worried that his crying would upset her neighbors.
One night, when she returned home, she considered her fears were confirmed. There, outside her door, was a package with a folded note attached to it.
Marin knew that she was in trouble. She hoped that she would not be evicted (驱逐) from her new apartment because of Chips. She loved Chips so much, and she was afraid that she might have to get rid of him because he made too much noise whenever she was away. Maria was scared and wondered who could have left it at the door because she had little contact with the people in the building.
However, when she noticed the names on the folded note, she found that it wasn't addressed to her but to her dog, Chips, and that it was “written” by another dog named Corote. Maria opened the package first and found a few toys for pets.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Curious, Maria opened the note and started reading it. The note, written by her neighboring dog owner, Angela, said she had noticed Chips crying a lot when Maria was away. Angela, in Corote's voice, suggested they play together when Maria was not home. This way, Chips wouldn't feel lonely. Maria was deeply moved and felt relieved after reading the note. Instead of expressing discontent, her kind neighbor was really understanding and tried to offer support. Maria felt she needed to meet Angela and her dog.
With Chips following her, Maria knocked at her neighbor's door. The door opened and Maria saw a woman, who must be Angela, smiling at her. Corote, Angela's dog, followed her and stared at Chips happily. The two dogs immediately hit it off. A pleasant atmosphere was created when Maria and Angela were chatting. In the process, Maria also got valuable advice from Angela on how to keep Chips company. Through their shared experiences and the joy their pets brought them, Maria and her neighbor formed a deep connection and their lives became very colorful and meaningful.

(24-25高二下·云南楚雄·期中)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The neighborhood kids nicknamed the strange old couple Crazy Jack and Ruby Rednose. Rumor was that they sat inside and drank tea all day. The only words we ever heard from them were “Keep out of our rosebushes!”
The rosebushes served as a fence between our house and theirs. I was eleven at the time and the oldest of six active girls. We should have played our softball games elsewhere to avoid hurting the roses, but we secretly enjoyed annoying Crazy Jack and Ruby Rednose. One day, we had a neighborhood softball game in our yard. Mary was trying to catch a fly ball. She stumbled (绊倒) over one of Ruby Rednose’s rosebushes and fell on top of several more. Just at that moment, Ruby Rednose sprang out and ran toward Mary. She screamed angrily, “Look at what you’ve done to our family’s roses! You’ve always been a trouble. You have no idea what this rosebush means to me!”
Hearing this, my sisters and I ran into our house. Breathlessly, we told Mom what had happened. “Girls, I have told you not to play softball near those bushes. Come outside right now and help me fix them.” “Mom, we thought you didn’t like the couple,” we protested. “They’re mean to us.” Mom just glared at us. We followed her outside to help repair the rose fence. While Mom was examining the damaged roses, Ruby slowly walked out. She looked sad. And it wasn’t her nose that was red — it was her eyes.

【答案】Ruby walked over to my mother, we girls holding our breath. We waited to see who would shout first and what terrible things would be said. “We are sorry about the flowers. The girls will fix them and help weed the roses.” My sisters and I looked at each other in horror, but Ruby smiled through her tears. “I know we’re particular about these roses, but they’re very special because they remind me of my mother.” Soon both women were down on their knees examining the damaged bushes together
A few weeks later, the plants all came back to life. My mother and Ruby worked together on the roses all summer and many summers to follow. So did my sisters and I. A friendship was formed between the families. Ruby became part of our family, spending many happy hours at our house, especially during countless birthdays, graduations and weddings. And the rose fence wasn’t a fence any longer. My mother had turned it into a bridge.

Passage 4

话题2 个人成长与励志

Passage 3

话题 6 邻里与社区温情
Passage 1
(24-25高二下·辽宁·期中)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Passage 1

Passage 5

Passage 1

Passage 4
