William Smith, a famous Great Wall expert and conservationist, and his wife Wu Qi have traveled the globe by the back paths, providing their sons with a unique growing environment. Sun hats, backpacks and sneakers (运动鞋) — these are the day-to-day must-haves for the family.
Most of their trips seem far from relaxing — cultural study in the hot and dry desert, a53-kilometer hiking tour of New Zealand, a one-day climb to three English mountaintops and a six-day train ride from Beijing to Moscow.
Many assume the family must be wealthy and can afford their global travel, but they are not. Smith says they just choose to spend money on travel and eschew pricey hotels and restaurants where possible. Smith mentions the trip to Moscow as an example. Instead of taking a taxi from the railway station to the hotel, they took the subway. “We crossed the city for saving money, communicated with local people, and saw they are people just like us, everywhere. We arrived at our destination feeling comfortable.”
However, their journeys, which can last weeks or months, have sometimes been inconsistent with their children's schooling. Wu remembers once Smith let their elder son ask for leave so that they could go to New York for a 45-day lecture tour. Therefore the son missed his final exam. Things like that bother the family all the time.
Smith attaches great importance to learning out of the classroom, saying that children might score well on school tests, but traveling outside, in distant lands with different languages, cultures, and political structures, is the real test. “You can only get streetwise on the street. You can only get worldly-wise when seeing the world,” he says.
4. How can we describe the Smiths’ trips?
A. Dangerous. B. Conventional. C. Pleasant. D. Challenging.
5. What does the underlined word “eschew” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Avoid. B. Evaluate. C. Visit. D. Compare.
6. What problem does the family meet when traveling?
A. They are faced with language barriers.
B. They have scheduling conflicts.
C. They hold different educational ideas.
D. They suffer from a tight budget.
7. Which statement may Smith agree with according to the text?
A. Actions speak louder than words. B. Toughness is the best assistant of will.
C. Man who travels far knows more. D. There is no royal road to learning.

In the digital age, the rapid development of AI, VR and AR technologies has greatly changed the way people read and appreciate literary works, making the traditional literary reading more interactive and interesting. More and more readers, especially teenagers, begin to accept and love the new digital reading methods, which have become a new trend in literary spread.
One of the most popular digital reading methods is immersive reading. With the help of VR and AR devices, readers can “step into” the vivid scenes described in novels, poems and plays directly. For example, when reading Qu Yuan’s Li Sao, readers can see the beautiful scenery of the ancient Chu State and feel the poet’s strong emotions of patriotism. The 2026 Spring Festival Gala used this technology to present classic Chinese poems, which made the poems more vivid and easy to understand for the audience of all ages.
Another popular trend is AI-assisted reading. AI can automatically explain difficult words, phrases and historical background knowledge in classic literary works, which helps students and new readers understand the works better and faster. Some reading apps even turn classic literary works into short animated plays or gentle songs, combining literature with music and painting. This creative form makes traditional literature more lively and attractive to young people.
However, some people worry that digital reading may make people lose the habit of reading paper books, and the sense of touch and immersion brought by paper books can never be replaced by digital devices. Experts point out that the key is to balance digital reading and traditional reading. Technology is just a tool to help people fall in love with literature, and the true beauty and value of literary works themselves will never change with the form of reading.
8. What can we learn about the use of VR and AR in literary reading from the text?
A. It transforms classic poems into animated plays or songs.
B. It enables readers to visually experience the settings of literary works.
C. It was first introduced to the public through the 2026 Spring Festival Gala.
D. It is more popular among the elderly than among younger generations.
9. Why does the author mention the 2026 Spring Festival Gala in paragraph 2?
A. To criticize the overuse of technology in traditional culture shows.
B. To illustrate the widespread commercial application of VR devices.
C. To provide a concrete example of how immersive reading works in practice.
D. To compare the differences between TV shows and digital reading apps.
10. How does AI-assisted reading help readers according to the text?
A. By writing new literary works for readers automatically.
B. By providing explanations for difficult elements in classic works.
C. By reducing the time needed for reading any books significantly.
D. By discouraging the use of paper books among young students.
11. What can be inferred about the experts’ view on digital and traditional reading?
A. They believe digital reading will soon make paper books disappear.
B. They consider the sense of touch from paper books to be unimportant.
C. They think the true value of literature lies in the reading form.
D. They see technology as a helpful tool rather than a replacement.
D
The relationship between humans and the Amazon rainforest has not always been a harmonious one. However, recent research suggests that the native people of the Putumayo region helped to protect the rainforest, leaving it unchanged for 5,000 years. Perhaps humans coexisting with nature is possible after all.
The study, published in The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), looked at soil samples in the Putumayo region of the Amazon in Peru to find how humans influenced the land. The researchers found that the trees still growing in the region today had been growing there for the last 5,000 years — evidence that the area has not been home to cities and farmland in that time. Traces of charcoal (木炭) found in the soil, however, indicate that people did live there; they just did so in a way that had a minimum influence on their environment.
To come to these conclusions, the team dug a 0.6-0.9 meter deep column into the ground, taking samples of soil from different heights along the column. Back in the lab, samples were carbon-dated to determine their age and then sorted under a microscope to look for microscopic mineral particles, known as phytoliths (植硅体). Phytoliths are essential evidence of plants — they remained in the soil thousands of years after the plant died. So researchers can use them to tell which plants have grown in an area in the past.
Over 5,000 years’ worth of samples, no species loss was detected. These findings suggest that contrary to common belief, the Amazon is not untouched by humans, but rather has been protected by them for thousands of years. The management of the rainforest by native people appears to have been vital in preserving its biodiversity and it will continue to be important in the fight to prevent it from collapse.
As Nigel Pitman, a co-author on the paper, said, “Since this particular forest is still being protected by native people, I hope this study reminds us all how important it is to support their work.”
12. What did the researchers try to find in the Amazon rainforest in Peru?
A. The diversity of the plants in the rainforest.
B. The survival age of the trees in the rainforest.
C. The evidence of humans’ influence on the rainforest.
D. The nutrition of the soil samples in the rainforest.
13. The researchers came to their conclusions by .
A. studying the climate of the Putumayo region
B. analyzing the living habits of the native people
C. collecting data from former experiments
D. comparing the plants growing there long before and now
14. What can be inferred from Nigel Pitman’s words?
A. We should help protect the Amazon rainforest.
B. We should make good use of the Amazon rainforest.
C. Native people should protect the rainforest.
D. More science research should be done on the rainforest.
15. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A. 5,000 Years of Coexistence: Native People Protecting the Amazon
B. A New Discovery: The Untouched Amazon Rainforest
C. The Threat of Collapse: Saving the Amazon Rainforest
D. Scientific Methods: Using Phytoliths to Study Ancient Soil

The Art of Asking Great Questions
Asking questions is a key skill for effective communication, yet many fail to master it,missing out on meaningful connections and useful insights. Fortunately, it’s a skill that can be developed with intention. ____16____
To start with, it’s important to clarify your purpose and ask the right person. Reflect on what you aim to gain — tips for exams or homework feedback — before raising a question. This makes your question more focused, leading to better responses. ____17____. For example, seeking medical advice from a friend instead of a doctor will only lead to vague or incorrect information.
____18____If a question pops up, ask it promptly while fresh; if the timing isn’t right — such as during a meeting — write it down to follow up later. Use simple, clear language, avoid difficult terms, and stay neutral to keep from influencing responses. Instead of saying “This plan is perfect, isn’t it?”, try “What’s your take on this plan?” to encourage honest feedback.
Additionally, attentive listening and thoughtful follow-ups are essential. ____19____Nodding or saying brief phrases like“I see” can signal your engagement. Follow-up questions are crucial for deepening the conversation. You can add “What steps do you think we can take to overcome it?” after asking “What’s the main difficulty here?” This shift from identifying issues to exploring solutions keeps the dialogue productive.
____20____Avoid rude questions that push others away. Approach answers with curiosity rather than closed-mindedness — every question is an opportunity to expand your understanding. With these steps, you’ll turn common exchanges into meaningful connections.
A. Crafting questions carefully is equally crucial.
B. Too many follow-up questions may annoy others.
C. Plain words make your questions easier to understand.
D. Listen mindfully and focus on what the person is saying.
E. Here are some practical strategies to question effectively.
F. Ultimately, maintain a respectful and open-minded attitude.
G. Choosing those with relevant knowledge ensures reliable answers.

第二节(满分25分)
52. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Back in 2017, I volunteered with elephants for one month. It was one of the best months of my life. It was an eye-opening experience that challenged some of my beliefs about how animals are used for tourism.
I volunteered with an elephant research unit at a park. The volunteer work that we did would change a bit each day, but it mostly consisted of cleaning elephant camps, preparing their food, observing and taking notes of elephant behavior, picking up samples of elephant dung (粪便) for research purposes, and importing elephant data into the computer.
Volunteering makes me a better person because it gets me outside of myself. It puts my focus on others. It makes me grateful for what I have. I never thought I would be rewarded for my volunteer work. As a volunteer, it gives me a chance to serve like Jesus served, which gives a deep sense of meaning to my life.
That afternoon coming back from the shelter, I was driving home. I took the route that was more like a canyon drive with beautiful scenery to think and process my feelings.
All of a sudden I heard a pop. I knew right away what had happened — a big flat tire! I pulled the car to the side, but this was a canyon drive with not much shoulder space, and it happened to be around a curve (弯道) where people couldn't see me. That made it dangerous. Cars were speeding up unconsciously passing me. I couldn’t get out.
Within minutes, I saw a van (小型货车) stopped at a distance behind me. Perhaps the other people in his car saw my awkward situation? Later I knew the kind man’s beautiful wife with lovely children in the back. The gentleman walked out, trying offering help, and I dared to walk out of the car very carefully. It was so narrow. He moved my car a bit out of the way while I was talking to AAA (American Automobile Association)(an American organization which provides services for car owners). After many back-and-forths with AAA (Since it was rather remote, they couldn’t find my location.), they said with all the priority they gave me since I was in a dangerous place, they could send assistance in 20 to 30 minutes.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The gentleman offered to look at my spare tire.

I offered to give him some cash in return for his help.

【答案】4. D 5. A 6. B 7. C

【答案】8. B 9. C 10. B 11.

【答案】16. E 17. G 18. A 19. D 20. F

【33题详解】
考查动词词义辨析。句意:这些鸟儿一定是察觉到了冬天即将来临。A. concluded断定;B. indicated表明;C. sensed感觉到,觉察到;D. assumed认为。
故选A项。

第二节(满分25分)
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The gentleman offered to look at my spare tire.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I offered to give him some cash in return for his help.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
The gentleman offered to look at my spare tire. He said that maybe he could help me change my tire before AAA’s assistance arrived. Having carefully examined my tire, he went back to his trunk, carried a toolbox, and then skillfully changed the broken tire in the dangerous location with cars passing by so fast. It wasn’t long before the tire was replaced — even before AAA arrived. It astonished me to find that a stranger would stop and help me like this. I expressed my thanks, but he just smiled.
I offered to give him some cash in return for his help. Again, he smiled. Refusing my proposal, he said that anyone seeing the situation would give me a hand. Touched and grateful, I thought how lucky I was to be the person receiving such generosity on a hot, dry afternoon. While working on my tire, he learned that I had just completed one month of voluntary work, which earned admiration from him. As we said goodbye, he encouraged me to persist in my voluntary work. Like a torch passed from hand to hand, I promised him that I would pass the kindness to more people.
