1.What do you think the title means?
2.Would you like to travel in Sichuan? Why or why not?
Learning to think for question 1
A title often shows the main idea of the passage.
Pay attention to the words in a title. Some words may have more than one meaning.
The title “Hot and cool” has a double-meaning.
“Hot” means the spicy and hot taste of the Sichuan hot pot. It also means the exciting and passionate experience of trying new and spicy local food.
“Cool” describes the visit to the Sanxingdui Museum. Because the author saw many cool and amazing things in the museum.
...
Would you like to travel in Sichuan? Why or why not?
Language Points
1. I just couldn’t wait to try Sichuan hot pot.
can’t wait to do表示“迫不及待地想要做”。
E.g.She can’t wait to start her new job.
They can’t wait to go on vacation next month.
2. When in China, do as the Chinese do.
When in Rome, do as the Romans do,意为“入乡随俗”。
E.g.—Are you sure we should eat this with our hands?
—Why not? When in Rome, do as the Romans do.
3.Surprisingly, I started to enjoy the taste. And cooking hot pot was just as fun as eating it!
E.g.Surprisingly, he got a very good job.
Surprisingly, the little dog can dance.
4.After lunch, things went from really hot to totally cool—we went to the new Sanxingdui Museum!
5. I'm really looking forward to the rest of my trip around China!
E.g.I look forward to meeting you.
My parents look forward to hearing from me.
