In this class, students will:
1. understand the main idea and specific details of the passage.
2. learn and use key reading skills such as skimming for main ideas and scanning for specific information.
3. master important vocabulary and expressions from the passage,and use them in simple contexts.
4. understand the spirits of national pride, teamwork,and perseverance shown in the story of
Chinese climbers,and be able to talk about their own thoughts on these qualities.

1. Show some pictures of climbing mountains and ask students to talk about the following
questions.

2. Invite some students to share their answers. During the process,the teacher can pre-teach the
new words and expressions in the article.
Predict
Present the two pictures in lb and the title. Have students predict what may be talked
about in the article. The teacher can provide the following options for students to tick.

1. Ask students to read the article quickly and summarize the main idea of each paragraph. If it's hard

This reading lesson went smoothly overall. Students actively participated in the lead-in and pre-reading activities, showing interest in sharing their knowledge about Qomolangma.However, some weaker students struggled with matching main ideas to paragraphs,so more scaffolding
will be needed next time.
