第三课时Grammar Focus(3a-3d) 1、 Teaching Objectives In this class,students will: 1. have a better understanding of the function and usage of the simple past tense. 2. distinguish between the simple past tense and the simple present tense in different contexts. 3. talk about their favourite stories and share reasons using the two tenses. 2、 Teaching Advice Lead-in Watch and Think 1. Play a video of the story Lord Ye's Love for Dragons.(视频见优翼配套教学课件) 2. Have students complete the retelling of the story with the correct forms of the given verbs after watching. 3. Check the answers with the whole class and guide students to realize that the simple past tense is often used to tell stories. 4. Encourage students to share what they can learn from the story and list the points on the blackboard. 5. Guide students to conclude that the simple present tense is used to talk about thoughts and lessons. Explore the Grammar 3a 1. Have students read the sentences in the chart and identify what tenses are used. 2. Let students tell the differences between the two tenses. The following questions can be used as prompts. · Which sentences talk about the past? · Which sentences talk about now or general things? · When do we usually use the simple past tense? · When do we usually use the simple present tense? · How do verb forms change in the simple past tense? · How do verb forms change in the simple present tense (for third-person singular)? 3. Invite some students to share their answers and give feedback. Guide students to summarize the usage and differences of the two tenses. 4. Present the rules to students. Grammar Rules ◆ 一般过去时的用法 1.当句中有明确表示过去的时间状语时,要用一般过去时。 e. g. The train left at 8 o'clock this morning.火车今天早上8点离开了。 She was on vacation last month.她上个月在度假。 2.在讲述自己或他人过去的经历、故事时,通常使用一般过去时。 e. g. I climbed Mount Tai last year. It was an amazing experience.我去年爬了泰山。那 是一次很棒的经历。 3.表示过去经常或反复发生的动作,常与always、often、usually等频度副词连用。 e. g. He often played basketball after school when he was a student.他当学生时经常放 学后打篮球。 一般现在时的用法 在表示客观规律、事实真理或者现阶段经常性、习惯性发生的动作时,常用一般现在时。 e.g. Light travels faster than sound.光比声音传播得快。 Grammar Exercises 3b 1. Ask students to read the conversations and complete them with the correct forms of the given verbs. 2. Have students check their answers and discuss the reasons in pairs. Then,invite some pairs to share their answers by role-playing the conversations. 3. Explain the difficult parts for students. 3c 1. Let students read the passage to get the meaning and complete it with the correct forms of the given verbs. 2. Ask students to check answers in pairs and then present the correct answers in class. 3. Explain the tricky parts and language points if necessary. 4. Encourage students to share what they can learn from the story. 3d 1. Have students read the instruction to clarify the requirement. The teacher can present the pictures of the stories they have learned about to help them recall. 2. Ask students to work in pairs to share their favourite stories and reasons. Remind them to use the sentence frames in 3d. During the process, the teacher can walk around to monitor and offer help if needed. 3. Invite some students to share in class if time is allowed. Summary Ask students to summarize what they have learned in this lesson. Homework Finish the related exercises in the books produced by Youyi. Blackboard Design Write some important grammar rules and sample sentences on the blackboard. Teaching Reflection This lesson successfully helped students practise the simple past tense through the story context. They could distinguish it from the present tense well in exercises. The video activity was engaging. However, some students struggled to use the past forms correctly when sharing their own stories. They often forgot the “-ed” ending or used the present form.
