第一课时 Section A(1a-1d) & Pronunciation 1、 Teaching Objectives In this class,students will: 1. talk about what people are doing using the present continuous tense. 2, learn to use polite expressions when making phone calls. 3. pronounce letter u correctly in different words. 4. read stressed words accurately in different sentences. 2、 Teaching Advice Lead-in 1. Present the theme pictures to students and ask the questions: · Where do you think the people in the photos are? · How do you know? 2. Simply introduce Shanghai and Toronto to students. Cultural Tip:Shanghai is in the eastern part of China. It's the business centre of China. Toronto is in the southeastern part of Canada. It's the largest city in Canada. The CN Tower is the landmark in Toronto. Look and Share 1. Have students observe the theme pictures more carefully and answer the questions on Page 33. 2. Simply introduce the time difference and time zone to students. Cultural Tip: Because of time differences, when some cities are in the daytime,others are still at night. The world is divided into 24 time zones,and places in the same time zone have the same local time. Pre-listening 1a 1. Have students look at the pictures and write the activities in the box under the pictures. 2. Encourage students to describe people's activities in each picture by asking and answering questions like this: — What are the girls doing at the moment? — They are playing volleyball. While-listening 1b 1. Let students read the questions in 1b and answer the following questions: · How does the speaker contact his friends? · Why does the speaker call his friends? · Do all his friends accept the invitation? 2. Play the audio. Ask students to listen and answer the questions. 3. Check the answers with the students. 1c 1. Let students listen again and match the questions with the answers. 2. Check the answers with the students. 3. Have students read the listening materials and simply introduce the “subject +be+v.-ing”structure to them. Post-listening Further Thinking 1. Have students read the listening materials again and find out what Peter says in the following situations. 2. Discuss: Do you think Peter is polite when he makes phone calls? 3. Guide students to summarize the thematic meaning of this lesson;Before making invitations, we should be polite and also think about others' plans. This is very important in social situations. 1d 1. Ask students to act out a phone conversation about inviting someone to do something with a partner. 2. Invite some pairs of students to role-play their conversations in front of the class. Pronunciation Exercise 1 1. Play the audio. Have students listen to the different sounds that letter “u”makes in different words. 2. Ask students to listen to and follow the audio. 3.Work in pairs. Let students discuss and add one more word to each group. 4. Invite some volunteers to share their answers. Exercise 2 1. Have students read the conversation and underline the words that are stressed. 2. Let students listen and check. 3. Play the audio again. Ask students to listen and repeat. Summary Ask students to summarize what they have learned in this lesson. Homework Finish the related exercises in the books produced by Youyi. Blackboard Design Write the language points and useful expressions on the blackboard. Teaching Reflection The lesson successfully covered the present continuous tense, polite phone call expressions, and the pronunciation of letter“u”as planned. Students actively participated in picture discussions and role-plays, showing good engagement in practice activities.However,some students had difficulty accurately applying the “subject + verb be+v.-ing”structure in their own conversations.
