Once at a summer camp, a teacher planned an activity for the students in his group. On the first day, he told each student to bring a plastic bag with three to five tomatoes. “Give each tomato the name of someone who made you sad or angry,” he said. “The number of tomatoes will show how many people have hurt your feelings.”
When the day came, students arrived with their bags. Some had two tomatoes, some had three, and the angriest students carried five. The teacher then said, “Carry these bags with you everywhere for a whole week — even to the toilet.” At first, the students thought it was funny. But after two days, the tomatoes started to smell bad. The more tomatoes a student had, the worse the smell got. Those with five tomatoes complained (抱怨) loudly.
Finally, the week ended. The students threw away their bags and felt relaxed. The teacher asked, “How did you feel carrying those bad tomatoes around?” One student said, “It made everything smell terrible, and my bag was heavy!” Another said, “I hated having to take them everywhere.” The teacher nodded and said, “That’s exactly how anger works. When you don’t forgive (原谅) someone, it’s like carrying bad tomatoes in your heart. The bad feelings stay with you, making everything unhappy. If you can’t stand the smell of bad tomatoes for one week, imagine carrying anger for years! It only hurts you.”
The activity wanted to show: forgiving is better than being angry. When someone hurts you, it’s hard to let go. But forgiveness isn’t forgetting the pain. It’s choosing to stop feeling angry, so you can feel peaceful. Remember: everyone makes mistakes. Accepting the past and putting down anger can make you happier.

The Old Summer Palace, or Yuanmingyuan, was once a beautiful royal (皇家的) garden. Among the artifacts were the Twelve Zodiac Animal Heads, which were part of a water clock system. These amazing bronze sculptures (雕塑) were symbols of great skill. However, due to historical events, they were lost abroad. As China grew stronger, these valuable artifacts were brought home little by little.
In April 2000, People in Hong Kong were angry when the auction house Christie’s (佳士得拍卖行) planned to sell two of the Zodiac Heads. They will return to Beijing!”
The efforts continued with another auction, where Poly worked with other Chinese collectors to buy the Tiger Head. On May 2nd, 2000, Poly bought the Tiger Head at Sotheby’s for 1,544 million Hong Kong dollars.
In 2003, businessman Stanley Ho donated the Pig Head to the Poly Art Museum. In 2007, Ho also brought the Horse Head for 69.1 million Hong Kong dollars and donated it to the State Administration of Cultural Heritage. In 2013, the French Pinault family returned the Rat and Rabbit Heads, which were placed in the National Museum.

Climate change is such a big problem that you may think there’s nothing you can do to help. 36 Here are four simple things you can do to protect our environment.
Save energy at home.
The production of energy is one of the biggest causes of greenhouse waste gas. Cut down on water use by taking shorter showers and turning off taps while you brush your teeth. Talk to your family about using LED bulbs (电灯泡) which use much less energy instead of light bulbs. 37
Reduce plastic waste.
Plastic is terrible for the environment as it may take centuries to break down, so carry a metal bottle with you to avoid buying plastic bottled water. 38 Avoid snacks that are put in plastic bags.
Don’t waste paper.
Paper comes from trees. To produce paper, many trees are cut down. So it is important to reduce paper use to save trees. 39 Think before you print, and print only what you really need. Use electronic tools like computers to store your notes.
40
Use public transportation, and walk or cycle instead of travelling by car. Cars, except electric ones, produce much greenhouse waste gas. Planes are among the worst things that give off waste gas. If your family is planning a holiday, try to tell them that you should go by train instead of flying if you can.
If you can follow these tips for a more environmentally-friendly way of living and share them with your family and friends, you can feel confident that you are making a real difference.

In 2008, Zhang Guimei, a hard-working teacher, founded a free girls-only senior high school in Huaping, Yunnan province. Her story, made into a TV series (连续剧) named She and Her Girls (《山花烂漫时》), has been well-received since it came out on September 10th.
The series is successful because it feels real. Instead of showing Zhang’s life to be one full of pain, it focuses on Zhang’s strength to deal with problems. In the poor villages of Huaping, people believe it’s meaningless for girls to receive an education. Because of this, many girls are forced to leave school at a young age. To help them come back to school, Zhang and other teachers make many home visits. They never give up, even when villagers are unsupportive.

If your arm or leg hurts, you see a doctor. But if your mind is where the pain is, what do you do? School life isn’t always easy. Exams are stressful, lessons can be hard and it’s also hard to make good friends at school sometimes. If you don’t feel good, talk to a teacher you trust. You can also try the following tips.
Get some exercise
Regular (规则的) exercise can help reduce stress. Why not exercise by going for a walk in the park or countryside? Enjoying time in nature also makes people relaxed.
Eat well
Your diet can also change how you feel. If you eat a lot of chips, cake, chocolate, your blood sugar will rise and fall and you will feel angry or bored. You should eat enough vegetables and fruits. Drink enough water too, or it’s difficult to think clearly.
Keep social media under control
Social media can be interesting, but also stressful. Remember that people’s messages and photos are only what they want to show you — they don’t show you their bad days or worries. Always stay away from anything unpleasant, and check how long you spend online and keep it under control in order to enjoy your offline time too!
Spend time with others
Spend time together with people you like, trust and who make you feel good. If you feel lonely, try volunteering. It’s a good way of meeting new people, and you’ll feel good about helping others. One survey showed that 48 percent of people who volunteered for more than two years said they felt less depressed (抑郁) as a result.
