With the development of technology, our city life is becoming more and more “smart”. Here are some great technologies that make our cities “smart”.
Sensors (传感器)
Sensors are like eyes in every corner of the city. They can see and feel things by collecting data (数据) on people and the environment.
Internet of things (万物物联)
It is like the blood vessels (血管) of a city, connecting everything to the Internet. Imagine when you are nearly home, and your smart watch can tell your home to turn on the lights. This can become a reality with the Internet of things.
5G
5G provides high-speed wireless Internet. It is what makes the Internet of things possible. The speed of 5G can be up to 10 Gbps. With such a speed, we can download a film in just a few seconds.
Artificial intelligence (AI)
AI can also help to deal with data. More importantly, it learns from the data and becomes a smart helper for us. AI can work as a delivery person, a tour guide, or even help design cars and make people’s work safer.
Online maps
Baidu Map and Gaode Map are two typical online maps. They help people find their way from one place to another. Some online maps can update real-time data on cities. With their help, people can find out the busiest road and plan the best route when traveling.
24. Which technology makes the Internet of Things possible?
A. Sensors. B. 5G. C. AI. D. Online maps.
25. What can AI be used for according to the passage?
①Dealing with data. ②Collecting data. ③Working as a tour guide.
④Helping design cars. ⑤Making people healthier.
A. ①②⑤ B. ②③④ C. ③④⑤ D. ①③④
26. Which of the following is NOT TRUE according to the passage?
A. Sensors can see and feel things like eyes.
B. People can avoid heavy traffic with Baidu Map.
C. We can download a film in a few minutes with 5G.
D. When you are away from home, you can turn on your lights.
27. What’s the purpose of the passage?
A. To introduce some technologies.
B. To ask people to buy cars.
C. To show what the city life is like.
D. To tell people how to use technologies.

When people think of wildfires, burning trees often come up. If you see a city burning while its trees remain standing, you might wonder if something unusual is happening.
For weeks in January, large wildfires spread through Los Angeles. They destroyed a large number of homes and many people lost their lives. As pictures of the fires spread across the Internet, people noticed trees standing next to burned-out homes and cars. Some didn’t believe that a fire would leave trees untouched. “Is there a secret attack on L.A. homes?” they asked. The simple answer is no. As plenty of pictures and videos from Los Angeles show, trees can and do catch fire.
But it’s true that some did not burn. Scientists say there is a simple explanation for that.
It is all about moisture. “It’s quite easy to understand,” said Miranda Hart, a biology professor. “Trees are filled with thousands and thousands of liters of water.” To be clear, trees do burn when fires are big and hot enough. But if a tree full of water is next to something very dry, the dry thing will burn first and even change the way of the fire. “In that way, you can imagine the fire just going around the tree if there’s enough ‘fuel’ on either side of it,” Prof. Hart added.
In addition, the tree type also matters. Certain trees are more likely to catch fire. Deciduous trees (trees that lose their leaves every year), for example, are hard to burn. That’s because their leaves include more water. While for conifers—trees with needlelike(针状的) leaves, things are the opposite.
In Los Angeles, palms are everywhere. They’ve become a symbol of the city. But based on the research, palm trees are especially easy to spread fire because of their structure and type. So, to reduce fire risks, the local fire departments have advised against planting more palms. Without proper care, these trees can burn and spread rapidly during wildfires and endanger the surroundings.
28. Some people had doubts about the wildfires in Los Angeles because ________.
A. they have lasted much longer than usual
B. hidden enemies attacked homes and cars
C. some trees remained unchanged in the fires
D. pictures of the fires spread across the Internet
29. The underlined word “moisture” in paragraph 4 probably means “________”.
A. dry condition B. water content C. high heat D. cold temperature
30. How would a fire pass through a tree full of water and dry things according to Prof. Hart?
A. B. C. D.
31. According to the passage, which type of tree is easier to catch fire?
A. Trees with thin, narrow and hard leaves.
B. Trees which drop their leaves every year.
C. Trees with rich water in their broad leaves.
D. Trees that are taller than the others around.
D
Many tourism platforms (平台) in China have used AI technologies, while some provinces and cities have designed their own AI tourism service platforms with special features. On some popular tourism platforms, tourists can give simple instructions, such as asking about must-visit attractions for a three-day trip to Shanghai. AI usually gives helpful answers within minutes.
Mr Liang, CEO of a travel company, said, “AI solves 80% of users’ questions in minutes, cutting trip-planning time from 9 hours to 6.6 hours.”
Guizhou and Shanghai have introduced AI assistants (助手) for travellers. Guizhou’s “Huang Xiao Xi”, a digital guide in traditional clothing, creates travel plans in just a few seconds. “Hu Xiao You”, a smart tourism system used in Shanghai, provides real-time updates on traffic at tourist sites, public transport, nearby shops, and even toilet locations.
Museums are also using AI. Wearable smart guides provide guiding tours at a lower cost than human guides. They also allow visitors to change the speed of introductions according to their own choice. With new tools like virtual reality (VR,虚拟现实), augmented reality (AR,增强现实), and three-D technology, users can “talk” to historical figures (人物), “communicate” with cultural relics, and watch ancient paintings come to life. These high-tech methods break down the distance between visitors and cultural heritage, making ancient history easier to understand and remember.
Gan Chunhui, a researcher in Shanghai, believes AI brings new ways of working in tourism. “Instead of taking the place of traditional jobs, China makes use of technology to breathe new life into these roles,” Gan said. “For tourists, this means more personalized and convenient trips that deepen their understanding of Chinese culture. For local communities, AI helps keep valuable heritage alive without changing the natural beauty of historical sites.”
32. How does Paragraph 3 support its main idea?
A. By giving examples of AI tools.
B. By showing different opinions.
C. By discussing difficulties we meet.
D. By discussing tourism in different times.
33. What can be inferred about AI in museums from the article?
A. It makes visiting more expensive.
B. It works faster than human guides.
C. It provides lively visiting experiences.
D. It shows more pictures than real objects.
34. What is Gan Chunhui’s opinion about AI in tourism?
A. AI will finally take the place of traditional jobs.
B. AI is not helpful for protecting cultural heritage.
C. The tourism industry depends too much on AI technology.
D. AI brings positive effects to both tourists and local communities.
35. What would be the best title for this passage?
A. AI Makes Tourism Smarter in China
B. The Rise of Online Travel Companies
C. Planning a Perfect Trip to Shanghai
D. Why Traditional Tourism Is Dying

【答案】28. C 29. B 30. B 31. A

A scenic (风景优美的) two-hour drive out of London city, in England, leads to a lovely, historical town in the country. The town is named Stratford-upon-Avon. It is famous because William Shakespeare was born here in 1564.
Shakespeare grew up in this town and lived in a house near the river. He wrote many poems and plays. People still enjoy his work today. Stratford-upon-Avon means the crossing of the River Avon. Bridge Street leads into the town. It is very wide and goes all the way through the town to the old bridge across the River Avon.
The river runs through the town and many of the famous buildings are along the banks of this river. Along the river, one can visit the homes where Shakespeare, his mother and children lived. These are all museums now. They have the same furniture and household things from Shakespeare’s time.
Further along the walk, there is a stunning garden. The Bancroft Garden has lovely lawns and flowers. There are some statues (雕塑) of William Shakespeare in the garden. The garden is in front of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. Here, they will perform many of Shakespeare’s plays.
Walking back along the town roads is an easy walk. The roads are in a square grid pattern, so it is easy to find places. Many of the buildings are old and have been fixed up; they still look like they did many years ago. They are painted black and white and look very neat. Some buildings still have the old-style wavy roofs.
