Nathan Seawood doesn’t let his disability keep him from the weight room. Instead, he’s learning to bear a different load. “This isn’t just a physical battle in the gym,” Seawood said. “It’s a mental battle for myself.” Refusing to be weighed down by his disability, Seawood draws strength from his mind, as he fights to make it through each step. “That takes a lot out of me. I push my body so hard that I’m tired,” said Seawood, who once thought he might have to give up the weights forever. Seawood ended up in a hospital bed with one leg after falling off a boat in Long Lake near Traverse City in June, 2019. His left leg got caught in the propeller and had to be cut. “I didn’t want people to see me,” Seawood said. “I couldn’t accept what had happened to me because it’s a lifestyle change. And that was hard. I was down bad.” Seawood said a therapist helped lift his spirits. “I wanted to be able to walk and that was difficult because I’m using muscles that never really get noticed as much,” Seawood said. Now he’s using those muscles to train hard at Grand Rapids City Gym, inspiring those around him to keep pushing. “He faces difficulties most of us don’t have to,” Jeff Phillips, who owns the gym, said. “I mean, he’s in here and he only has one leg, but he’s doing a lot of the same lifts everybody with two legs are doing. It’s surely encouraging to see him doing that.” Despite life’s best attempt to knock him down, Seawood is still standing, and while he may exercise differently from others, he’s thankful to still be moving. “I might have a disability, but I’m not disabled,” Seawood said. 4. What plays the key role in Seawood’s weightlifting? A. His right leg. B. The others’ encouragement. C. His strong will. D. His family. 5. What led to Nathan Seawood’s disability? A. An accident. B. An early birth. C. A serious disease. D. A medical mistake. 6. Which of the following words can best describe Nathan Seawood? A. Confident and honest. B. Smart and hardworking. C. Calm and modest. D. Determined and positive. 7. Why is Jeff Phillips mentioned in paragraph 6? A. To tell Seawood’s sad story. B. To draw attention to weightlifting. C. To speak highly of Seawood. D. To show sympathy for Seawood. C 5. A 6. D 7. 根据第二段中““It’s a mental battle for myself.” Refusing to be weighed down by his disability, Seawood draws strength from his mind, as he fights to make it through each step. “That takes a lot out of me. I push my body so hard that I’m tired,” said Seawood, who once thought he might have to give up the weights forever.(“这对我来说是一场精神上的战斗。”Seawood拒绝被自己的残疾所拖累,他从自己的思想中汲取力量,努力通过每一步。“这耗费了我很多精力。我对身体的压力太大了,以至于我很累,”Seawood说,他曾经认为他可能不得不永远放弃举重)”可知,在Seawood的举重中起着关键作用的是他坚强的意志。故选C。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“Seawood ended up in a hospital bed with one leg after falling off a boat in Long Lake near Traverse City in June, 2019. His left leg got caught in the propeller and had to be cut.(2019年6月,Seawood在特拉弗斯城附近的长湖从船上摔下来,一条腿躺在了医院的病床上。他的左腿被螺旋桨卡住,不得不被切掉)”可知,一次事故导致了Nathan Seawood的残疾。故选A。 根据第二段中“Refusing to be weighed down by his disability, Seawood draws strength from his mind, as he fights to make it through each step.(Seawood拒绝被自己的残疾所拖累,他从自己的思想中汲取力量,努力通过每一步)”以及最后一段“Despite life’s best attempt to knock him down, Seawood is still standing, and while he may exercise differently from others, he’s thankful to still be moving. “I might have a disability, but I’m not disabled,” Seawood said.(尽管生活想尽办法把他打倒,但Seawood仍然站着,虽然他的运动方式可能与其他人不同,但他很庆幸自己还能活动。“我可能有残疾,但我不是无能,” Seawood说)”可推知,Nathan Seawood坚定而积极。故选D。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据第六段““He faces difficulties most of us don’t have to,” Jeff Phillips, who owns the gym, said. “I mean, he’s in here and he only has one leg, but he’s doing a lot of the same lifts everybody with two legs are doing. It’s surely encouraging to see him doing that.”(“他面临着我们大多数人不需要面对的困难,”这家健身房的老板Jeff Phillips说。“我的意思是,他在这里,他只有一条腿,但他做了很多举重,和所有两条腿的人做的一样。看到他这样做肯定是令人鼓舞的。”)”可推知,在第六段提到Jeff Phillips是为了高度评价Seawood。故选C。 C If you could be anybody in the world, who would it be? Your neighbour or a super star? A few people have experienced what it might be like to step into the skin of another person, thanks to an unusual virtual reality(虚拟现实)device. Rikke Wahl, an actress, model and artist, was one of the participants in a body swapping experiment at the Be Another lab, a project developed by a group of artists based in Barcelona. She swapped with her partner, an actor, using a machine called The Machine to Be Another and temporarily became a man. "As I looked down, I saw my whole body as a man, dressed in my partner's pants," she said. "That's the picture I remember best." The set-up is relatively simple. Both users wear a virtual reality headset with a camera on the top. The video from each camera is sent to the other person, so what you see is the exact view of your partner. If she moves her arm, you see it. If you move your arm, she sees it. To get used to seeing another person's body without actually having control of it, participants start by raising their arms and legs very slowly, so that the other can follow along. Eventually, this kind of slow synchronised(同步的)movement becomes comfortable, and participants really start to feel as though they are living in another person's body. Using such technology promises to alter people's behaviour afterwards-potentially for the better. Studies have shown that virtual reality can be effective in fighting racism-the bias(偏见)that humans have against those who don't look or sound like them. Researchers at the University of Barcelona gave people a questionnaire called the Implicit Association Test, which measures the strength of people's associations between, for instance, black people and adjectives such as good, bad, athletic or awkward. Then they asked them to control the body of a dark skinned digital character using virtual reality glasses, before taking the test again. This time, the participants' bias scores were lower. The idea is that once you've "put yourself in another's shoes" you're less likely to think ill of them, because your brain has internalised the feeling of being that person. The creators of The Machine to Be Another hope to achieve a similar result. "At the end of body swapping, people feel like holding each other in their arms," says Arthur Pointeau, a programmer with the project. "It's a really nice way to have this kind of experience. I would really, really recommend it to everyone." 8. The word "swapping" (paragraph 1) is closest in meaning to______. A. building B. exchanging C. controlling D. transplanting 9. We can infer from the experiment at the Be Another lab that______. A. our feelings are related to our bodily experience B. we can learn to take control of other people's bodies C. participants will live more passionately after the experiment D. The Machine to Be Another can help people change their sexes 10. In the Implicit Association Test, before the participants used virtual reality glasses to control a dark skinned digital character, ______. A. they fought strongly against racism B. they scored lower on the test for racism C. they changed their behaviour dramatically D. they were more biased against those unlike them 11. It can be concluded from the passage that______. A. technology helps people realize their dreams B. our biases could be eliminated through experiments C. virtual reality helps promote understanding among people D. our points of view about others need changing constantly 【答案】8. B 9. A 10. D 11. She swapped with her partner, an actor, using a machine called The Machine to Be Another and temporarily became a man. "As I looked down, I saw my whole body as a man, dressed in my partner's pants," she said. "That's the picture I remember best." The Machine to Be Another交换了身体。” Eventually, this kind of slow synchronised(同步的)movement becomes comfortable, and participants really start to feel as though they are living in another person's body. Studies have shown that virtual reality can be effective in fighting racism-the bias(偏见)that humans have against those who don't look or sound like them. The idea is that once you've "put yourself in another's shoes" you're less likely to think ill of them, because your brain has internalised the feeling of being that person. At the end of body swapping, people feel like holding each other in their arms," says Arthur Pointeau, a programmer with the project可知,这个想法是,一旦你“设身处地地处在别人的位置时”,你就不太可能对他们不好,因为你的大脑已经内化了成为那个人的感觉。在身体交换后,人们想要张开双臂,彼此拥抱。故判断出虚拟现实帮助促进人们之间的理解,故选C。 D 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。 Bad news sells. If it bleeds, it leads. No news is good news, and good news is no news. Those are the classic rules for the evening broadcasts and the morning papers. But now that information is being spread and monitored(监控) in different ways, researchers are discovering new rules. By tracking people’s e-mails and online posts, scientists have found that good news can spread faster and farther than disasters and sob stories. “The ‘if it bleeds’ rule works for mass media,” says Jonah Berger, a scholar at the University of Pennsylvania. “They want your eyeballs and don’t care how you’re feeling. But when you share a story with your friends, you care a lot more how they react. You don’t want them to think of you as a Debbie Downer.” Researchers analyzing word-of-mouth communication—e-mails, Web posts and reviews, face-to-face conversations—found that it tended to be more positive than negative(消极的), but that didn’t necessarily mean people preferred positive news. Was positive news shared more often simply because people experienced more good things than bad things? To test for that possibility, Dr. Berger looked at how people spread a particular set of news stories: thousands of articles on The New York Times’ website. He and a Penn colleague analyzed the “most e-mailed” list for six months. One of his first findings was that articles in the science section were much more likely to make the list than non-science articles. He found that science amazed Times’ readers and made them want to share this positive feeling with others. Readers also tended to share articles that were exciting or funny, or that inspired negative feelings like anger or anxiety, but not articles that left them merely sad. They needed to be aroused(激发) one way or the other, and they preferred good news to bad. The more positive an article, the more likely it was to be shared, as Dr. Berger explains in his new book, “Contagious: Why Things Catch On.” 12. What do the classic rules mentioned in the text apply to? A. News reports. B. Research papers. C. Private e-mails. D. Daily conversations. 13. What can we infer about people like Debbie Downer? A. They’re socially inactive. B. They’re good at telling stories. C. They’re inconsiderate of others. D. They’re careful with their words. 14. Which tended to be the most e-mailed according to Dr. Berger’s research? A. Sports news. B. Science articles. C. Personal accounts. D. Financial reviews. 15. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Sad Stories Travel Far and Wide B. Online News Attracts More People C. Reading Habits Change with the Times D. Good News Beats Bad on Social Networks 【答案】12. A 13. C 14. B 15. D 【解析】 【分析】本文是说明文。人们常说“没有消息就是最好的消息”,类似的传统说法只适合于大众媒体。在网络普及的时代,好消息在网络上的传播速度比坏消息要快很多。 【12题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“The ‘if it bleeds’ rule works for mass media”可知,像“it bleeds”这样的传统说法适用于大众媒体,故选A。 【13题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段中“you care a lot more how they react”可知,你非常在乎朋友听完你讲的故事后的反应,根据“You don’t want them to think of you as a Debbie Downer.”可知,你不想被当作一个“Debbie Downer”,说明Debbie Downer指的是“一个不为他人考虑的人”,故选C。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“articles in the science section were much more likely to make the list than non-science articles”可知,科技类的文章比非科技类的更有可能被人们讨论,故选B。 【15题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段“By tracking people’s e-mails and online posts, scientists have found that good news can spread faster and farther than disasters and sob stories.”可知,好消息在网络上传播得更快,影响更深远;说明文章主要讲的是好消息通过网络的传播,故选D。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Interruptions (打扰) are one of the worst things to deal with while you’re trying to get work done. ___16___, there are several ways to handle things. Leave it open when you’re available to talk and close it when you’re not 【答案】16. B 17. A 18. E 19. D 20. G 【解析】 【分析】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要围绕“打扰”这一话题展开论述。由于在工作中被打扰是一件令人感觉很糟糕的事,因此作者提出了几点建议,防止此类事件的发生。 【16题详解】 根据上文Interruptions (打扰) are one of the worst things to deal with while you’re trying to get work done.(当你试图完成工作时,打断是最糟糕的事情之一)及下文there are several ways to handle things.(有几种处理事情的方法)可知,此句与前半句构成一个完整的句子。B. When you want to avoid interruptions at work(当你想要避免工作被打扰的时候)符合语境。故选B。 【17题详解】 根据下文Tell the person you’re sorry and explain that you have a million things to do and then ask if the two of you can talk at a different time.(告诉对方你很抱歉,并解释你有很多事情要做,然后问他们是否可以在不同的时间交谈)可知,这一段主要是讲述学会在自己很忙的时候去拒绝别人。A. If you’re busy, don’t feel bad about saying no(如果你很忙,不要因为说“不”而感到不好意思)符合语境。故选A。 【18题详解】 根据上文When people try to interrupt you, have set hours planned and let them know to come back during that time or that you’ll find them then.(当人们试图打扰你的时候,给他们设定好时间计划,让他们知道在这段时间内回来或者你会找到他们)及下文It can help to eliminate (消除) future interruptions.(这样做可以帮助你消除未来被打断的可能)可知,此处衔接上下文,E. It’s important that you let them know when you’ll be available(让他们知道你什么时候有空是很重要的)符合语境。故选E。 【19题详解】 根据上文When you need to talk to someone, don’t do it in your own office.(当你需要和别人交谈时,不要在你自己的办公室里)及下文it’s much easier to excuse yourself to get back to your work than if you try to get someone out of your space even after explaining how busy you are.(找借口回去工作要比在解释完自己有多忙后还试图让别人离开你的空间要容易得多)可知, it指代前文don’t do it in your own office. D. If you’re in the other person’s office or in a public area(如果你在别人的办公室或公共场所)能够后半句构成一个完整的句子。故选D。 【20题详解】 根据上文If you have a door to your office, make good use of it.(如果你的办公室有一扇门,好好利用它)可知,此段主要是讲述关于如何利用自己办公室的门来防止被打扰。G. Leave it open when you’re available to talk and close it when you’re not(当你有空的时候让它开着,不方便的时候就把它关上)符合语境。故选G。 【点睛】本文中的第2小题属于七选五阅读中最常见的设空在段首的方法,通常是段落主题句。认真阅读后文内容,根据段落一致性原则,查找同义词或其他相关的词,推断出主题句。本题根据下文Tell the person you’re sorry and explain that you have a million things to do and then ask if the two of you can talk at a different time.(告诉对方你很抱歉,并解释你有很多事情要做,然后问他们是否可以在不同的时间交谈)可知,这一段主要是讲述学会在自己很忙的时候去拒绝别人。A. If you’re busy, don’t feel bad about saying no(如果你很忙,不要因为说“不”而感到不好意思)符合语境。故选A。 On a long trip to Brisbane we stopped into a service station in Kilcoy for a bathroom break and some fuel. He was one of the last two students left in Room Five’s Geography Bee (地理知识竞赛). His opponent (对手) had missed the last question, so now it was Hector’s turn. If he answered his question right, he would be the Room Five champion. “Where did I put that second sheet of questions?” Mr. Adler whispered. He was looking through a thick pile of papers on his messy desk. Mr. Adler was a great teacher, but everyone knew he was disorganized (没有条理的). He often lost things. “Well, sorry for keeping you waiting,” Mr. Adler said after a long time. “Hector, please tell us the capital of Brazil.” When Hector heard the question, he smiled — and then he gave the right answer. Later that day, Hector was in the school courtyard. Many of his classmates came to congratulate him. He wore a proud smile, greeted them all, and thanked each one. Victory felt really sweet. He was so looking forward to the final contest the next day. It was getting late, and the courtyard was almost empty. But Hector still didn’t want to leave. Then he saw Mr. Adler walking across the courtyard. The teacher was holding a half-open bag full of papers. As he hurried by, an envelope fell out. Mr. Adler didn’t notice. He turned a corner and was gone. Hector picked up the envelope. On it were the words “Fifth Grade Geography Bee Questions and Answers.” Hector’s eyes opened wide as he looked at it. He didn’t have time to think about the results before he opened it and read the questions. As soon as he finished, Hector knew he had made a wrong choice. He had cheated, and no matter what he did now, he couldn’t change that. “What if Mr. Adler thinks I stole the questions for this morning’s bee too?” Hector thought. “He will definitely take away my Room Five champion title.” He never expected that one of the best days of his life would turn so bad so fast. Hector was worried about what he did and didn’t know what to do. Paragraph 1: Before he realized it, Hector found himself standing in Mr. Adler’s room. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: The next day the entire school came to watch the Fifth Grade Geography Bee. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Before he realized it, Hector found himself standing in Mr. Adler’s room. His hands shaking slightly, he held the crumpled envelope tightly, guilt and anxiety written all over his face. He knocked gently on the door, his voice trembling as he honestly admitted he’d accidentally picked up the envelope and read the answers by mistake. He apologized sincerely for his thoughtless act and offered to give up the championship without hesitation. Mr. Adler smiled warmly, patting his shoulder and praising his courage, saying honesty mattered far more than any trophy or title. The next day, the entire school gathered to watch the Fifth Grade Geography Bee. Before the contest started, Mr. Adler called him aside. “I’ve changed some questions to make it fair,” he whispered. Relieved and grateful, Hector took a deep breath, focusing fully on the new questions. He relied on his own geography knowledge to answer each one carefully and confidently, his mind clear of the earlier mistake. In the end, he won fairly, and the audience burst into cheers. Mr. Adler announced to the whole school that Hector was both a geography champion and a champion of honesty. Hector learned that true victory comes from integrity, not shortcuts. 词汇激活 行为类 ①握住:hold/grasp ② 承认:admit/confess ③ 低声说:whisper/murmur 情绪类 ①焦虑:anxiety/nervousness ②感激:grateful/thankful/appreciative 【点睛】【高分句型1】His hands shaking slightly, he held the crumpled envelope tightly, guilt and anxiety written all over his face.(运用了独立主格结构“His hands shaking slightly”和“guilt and anxiety written all over his face”) 【高分句型2】Relieved and grateful, Hector took a deep breath, focusing fully on the new questions.(运用了形容词“Relieved and grateful”作状语和现在分词短语“focusing fully on the new questions”作状语) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 南安三中2025—2026学年高二下学期3月份阶段考试 英语试卷 (试卷满分150分,考试时间120分钟) 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 1. D. To show sympathy for Seawood. C If you could be anybody in the world, who would it be? A. technology helps people realize their dreams B. our biases could be eliminated through experiments C. virtual reality helps promote understanding among people D. our points of view about others need changing constantly D 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。 Bad news sells. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
