Like many people in the UK, I grew up with a very narrow understanding of health. If I felt anxious or tired, I just kept going. If I had a headache, I took painkillers. There was very little thought given to why symptoms appeared or how to live in a way that might prevent them from happening. It wasn’t until my early thirties, while working in a high-stress advertising job, that everything caught up with me. I was completely burnt out. One of the most alarming symptoms I was experiencing at the time was unusual heartbeats — loud uneven throbs (跳动) that shook my chest every few minutes. I went to the hospital and was told doctors could do nothing, except to keep an eye on it in case it caused problems later in life. There was no mention of emotional tension. No questions about how I was dealing with stress. That was the moment I turned to acupuncture (针灸). I didn’t know much about it, but something about it felt right. And that first treatment marked the beginning of a deep and lasting change. Through acupuncture treatments, I found a kind of calm I hadn’t experienced in years. My mind cleared, my body felt stronger, and those frightening heartbeats became less and less noticeable. I had discovered a whole new way of seeing health and life. That experience sparked my interest. I began reading everything I could about acupuncture: not just the practical benefits, but the basic philosophy. I discovered that Chinese medicine is more of a way of understanding ourselves and the world. It teaches that our health isn’t something to hand over to someone else to fix. It’s something to respect and tend to every day, through our food, our emotional lives, our ability to respond to stress, and our relationship with nature and the seasons. 4. How did Kate treat health issues early on? A. Ignoring the root causes. B. Taking painkillers regularly. C. Stopping work when feeling tired. D. Keeping a healthy lifestyle. 5. What made Kate turn to acupuncture? A. Her heartbeats becoming more frequent. B. Doctors’ advice to keep an eye on it. C. Her high-stress advertising job. D. Doctors’ failure to address her stress. 6. What happened to Kate after her first acupuncture? A. She lost trust in doctors. B. She loved reading acupuncture books. C. She experienced inner peace. D. Her heartbeats returned to normal. 7. What does Kate think of Chinese medicine? A. It tries to reveal mental factors. B. It offers a new way to understand life. C. It works better than Western medicine. D. It requires daily food control. A 5. D 6. C 7. 根据第一段中“If I felt anxious or tired, I just kept going. If I had a headache, I took painkillers. There was very little thought given to why symptoms appeared or how to live in a way that might prevent them from happening.(如果我感到焦虑或疲惫,我就继续坚持下去。如果我头痛,我就吃止痛药。我很少去思考这些症状为何出现,或者如何以一种可能防止症状出现的方式生活。)”可知,凯特早期对待健康问题的方式是忽略根本原因。故选A。 根据第二段中“I went to the hospital and was told doctors could do nothing, except to keep an eye on it in case it caused problems later in life. There was no mention of emotional tension. No questions about how I was dealing with stress. That was the moment I turned to acupuncture (针灸).(我去了医院,医生告诉我他们无能为力,只能密切关注,以防它日后引发问题。没有提到情绪紧张。没有问我如何应对压力。就在那一刻,我转向了针灸。)”可知,医生没有解决她的压力问题,这使得凯特转向针灸。故选D。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“And that first treatment marked the beginning of a deep and lasting change. Through acupuncture treatments, I found a kind of calm I hadn’t experienced in years. My mind cleared, my body felt stronger, and those frightening heartbeats became less and less noticeable.(第一次治疗标志着深刻而持久的变化的开始。通过针灸治疗,我找到了一种多年来未曾体验过的平静。我的头脑清醒了,身体感觉更强壮了,那些可怕的心跳变得越来越不明显了。)”可知,凯特第一次针灸后,她体验到了内心的平静。故选C。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中“I discovered that Chinese medicine is more of a way of understanding ourselves and the world. It teaches that our health isn’t something to hand over to someone else to fix. It’s something to respect and tend to every day, through our food, our emotional lives, our ability to respond to stress, and our relationship with nature and the seasons.(我发现中医更多的是一种理解我们自己和世界的方式。它教导我们,健康不是交给别人去修复的东西。它是每天都要尊重和关注的东西,通过我们的食物、我们的情感生活、我们应对压力的能力,以及我们与自然和季节的关系。)”可知,凯特认为中医提供了一种理解生活的新方式。故选B。 C It is generally believed that coffee relates to increased watchfulness and faster heart rates, so people with atrial fibrillation (AF) — the most common irregular (不规则的) heartbeat condition — are often told to avoid it. However, a new study suggests that advice may need a rethink. Researchers followed 200 people in the US, Canada, and Australia who were about to go through an operation for AF. All were present or former coffee drinkers. Half agreed to avoid coffee for six months; the other half agreed to drink at least one cup per day. Across the six months, the researchers tracked AF recurrences (复发) lasting over 30 seconds. In the coffee-drinker group, 47 percent had suffered from AF, compared with 64 percent of those who didn’t. “The results astounded us,” says Christopher Wong, a professor from the University of Adelaide in Australia. “Unlike traditional wisdom, we found the coffee drinkers experienced an obvious reduction in AF compared to those who avoided coffee and caffeine (咖啡因).” Lots of explanations for the finding are possible. We know coffee can improve exercise performance, which could protect against AF. It also contains something acting to help reduce high blood pressure, a risk factor for AF. While it doesn’t show the direct cause and effect, the study adds some valuable evidence to the connection between coffee and heart conditions. “It makes sense for health care professionals to let their AF patients consider experimenting with caffeinated drinks that they may enjoy, such as caffeinated tea and coffee,” says Marcus, a medical researcher from the University of California, San Francisco. This is the first attempt to look at the connection between caffeinated drinks and the happening of AF. The researchers now want to look at the effects on those who weren’t coffee drinkers to begin with, and how other caffeine drinks might have an influence. 8. How did the researchers make the finding? A. By explaining reasons. B. By undertaking comparisons. C. By making interviews. D. By reviewing former studies. 9. What does the underlined word “astounded” probably mean in Paragraph 3? A. Shocked. B. Troubled. C. Discouraged. D. Uplifted. 10. What does Marcus think of recommending caffeinated drinks to AF patients? A. Impractical. B. Uncertain. C. Influential. D. Reasonable. 11. What may the researchers do in the future? A. Change measuring tools. B. Apply the latest findings. C. Broaden research subjects. D. Collect indirect evidences. B 9. A 10. D 11. 根据第二段中的“Half agreed to avoid coffee for six months; the other half agreed to drink at least one cup per day. Across the six months, the researchers tracked AF recurrences (复发) lasting over 30 seconds. In the coffee-drinker group, 47 percent had suffered from AF, compared with 64 percent of those who didn’t. (一半人同意六个月内不喝咖啡;另一半人同意每天至少喝一杯。在这六个月里,研究人员追踪了持续30秒以上的房颤复发情况。喝咖啡的组别中,47%的人出现了房颤,而不喝咖啡的组别这一比例为64%)”可知,研究人员将研究对象分为两组做对比实验,通过对比两组的房颤复发数据得出研究发现。故选B项。 【9题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第一段中的“It is generally believed that coffee relates to increased watchfulness and faster heart rates, so people with atrial fibrillation (AF) — the most common irregular (不规则的) heartbeat condition — are often told to avoid it. 故选A项。 根据第四段中的““It makes sense for health care professionals to let their AF patients consider experimenting with caffeinated drinks that they may enjoy, such as caffeinated tea and coffee,” says Marcus, a medical researcher from the University of California, San Francisco. (医疗从业者让他们的房颤患者考虑尝试自己喜欢的含咖啡因饮品,比如含咖啡因的茶和咖啡,这是合理的)”可推知,Marcus认为向房颤患者推荐含咖啡因饮品是合理的。故选D项。 【11题详解】 细节理解题。根据第五段中的“The researchers now want to look at the effects on those who weren’t coffee drinkers to begin with, and how other caffeine drinks might have an influence.(研究人员现在想要研究该饮品对原本就不喝咖啡的人的影响,以及其他含咖啡因饮品可能产生的作用)”可知,研究人员未来会拓宽研究对象,将原本不喝咖啡的人纳入研究,同时研究其他含咖啡因饮品的影响。 When traveling in foreign nations, you have to know their way of life._____12_____Otherwise, you may get yourself on the wrong side. One morning, with the school bell due to ring in just minutes, he was running desperately through the grocery store parking lot. His teacher Mrs. Grant had warned him the day before that if he was late one more time, she would call his parents. Halfway across the lot, Milo froze. Sun beat down on a silver car. Inside the car, a little boy was tied in a seat. His small hands waved weakly. His face was red, and his cheeks had lines of tears. The window was closed tight. Sweat shone on the boy’s head. Milo was terrified, but when he looked around, there was no one else. Milo’s stomach turned. Heat could kill faster than anyone imagined. He dropped his backpack, ran to the car, and desperately pulled at every handle — all locked. He hit the window again and again in panic, but the parking lot was still empty. No one came. Milo looked around wildly, and then he remembered the security guard’s booth (小隔间) near the store entrance. Without another thought, Milo took off running, shouting as he went, He burst into the small booth, breathless, and poured out his story to the surprised guard. Within minutes, the guard was on the radio, and a store manager came rushing out with a special tool to unlock the door of the car. As the door opened, a blast of hot air escaped. The boy’s cries, now loud and clear, filled the quiet lot. Milo watched, his own fear fading, as the manager gently lifted the sweating boy and held him close. A few minutes later, a young woman came hurrying out of the store, her arms full of bags. Her face went pale when she saw the crowd around her car. She dropped the bags and ran forward, tears springing to her eyes as the manager placed her son safely in her arms. She had only run in for medicine quickly, she explained, her voice trembling with regret. She never meant to be more than a minute. When Milo rushed to his classroom, he was fifteen minutes late. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ At break, the young mother came to the classroom together with Mrs. Grant. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文: When Milo rushed to his classroom, he was fifteen minutes late. Mrs. Grant was very angry and stared at Milo. Her face was serious. She reminded him of her warning about not being late again. She said this time, she had to follow the rule. Milo took the note, feeling very worried about what his parents would say. At break, the young mother came to the classroom together with Mrs. Grant. She was holding her son, who was now safe and calm. The mother explained to the whole class what Milo had done to save her son from the hot car this morning. She called Milo a little hero and gave him a big hug. Mrs. Grant walked to Milo’s desk and took back the note. C It is generally believed that coffee relates to increased watchfulness and faster heart rates, so people with atrial fibrillation (AF) — the most common irregular (不规则的) heartbeat condition — are often told to avoid it. When traveling in foreign nations, you have to know their way of life._____12_____Otherwise, you may get yourself on the wrong side. Grant. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
