Microplastics are very small. According to National Geographic, microplastics are usually less than five millimeters (毫米) in size. But they bring big problems. This small size lets them go everywhere, even in water and air. They don’t break down easily and can stay in the environment for hundreds of years. A new study said that by 2040, microplastic pollution could be twice as bad as it is now. Microplastics are very small pieces of plastic. They come from many places. For example, about 60 percent of material made into clothes is plastic. Every time the clothes are washed, they produce microplastics. When water bottles and other big plastic products are left outside, they break down slowly into microplastics. These microplastics can be bad for our health and even cause cancer. In August, The Conversation reported that scientists found microplastics in people’s brains for the first time. They may hurt brain cells (细胞) and change how the brain works. Wild animals are also at risk from microplastic pollution. Each year, up to three million tons of plastics end up in the ocean. As they break down day by day, they become virtually invisible gradually (逐渐地). Fish may eat them by mistake and become very sick. To deal with the problem, scientists think the best way right now is to make and use less plastic. As students, we can reduce plastic things in our daily life, such as using glass or metal cups instead of plastic bottles and cups. 16.The writer starts the text by ________. A.telling stories B.asking questions C.listing numbers D.giving examples 17.What can we know about microplastics from the passage? A.Microplastics are often over five millimeters. B.It is difficult for microplastics to break down. C.Microplastics can help people’s brain work better. D.Microplastics do little harm to wild animals. 18.What is the main idea of paragraph 3? A.Explaining how microplastics are used in clothing. B.Introducing the sources and dangers of microplastics. C.Describing the ways of recycling water bottles correctly. D.Showing the latest research on how human brains work. 19.What does the underlined phrase “virtually invisible” in Paragraph 4 probably mean? A.especially small and hard to see B.completely harmless to animals C.easily found in the water D.brightly colored and attractive 20.What would be the best title for the text? A.Solutions to Microplastic Pollution B.Tiny Pieces of Plastic causing big Problems C.Future of Ocean Pollution from Microplastics D.First Finding of Microplastics in Human Brains C Ants have the ability to smell out cancerous cells (癌细胞) in humans, which has been discovered by a new study, suggesting that they could be used to find cancer in the future. Researchers from the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) discovered that some ants have a well developed sense of smell. “However, more tests must be carried out before they could be used in hospitals,” The team said. Although more tests are needed, this discovery could lead to new ways of detecting cancer early. The scientists did tests with 36 ants, smelling cells in the tan. first, they let the ants smell some cancerous human cells. Every time the ants smelt cancerous cells, they were rewarded with sugar solution (糖液). In the second step, the ants were put into two different smells. One was a new smell of healthy cells and the second was still the smell of the cancerous cells. Once the ants found the cancerous cells successfully, the researchers made them smell different cancerous cells. As such, the scientists found that ants could discriminate (辨别) between cancerous and healthy cells and between two cancerous cells. How accurate are ants in discriminating cancer cells? Studies have shown that trained ants can discriminate cancer cells with an accuracy rate (准确率) of about 95% to 99%. Other studies have shown that Formica Fusca ants (丝光褐林蚁) can learn to discriminate cancer samples in just 30 minutes. This isn’t the first time that scientists have used the animals’ sense of smell to find cancerous cells. “Dogs have long been praised for their powerful noses,” the researchers noted. “But training dogs to discriminate cancer cells usually takes months or even a full year—a time-consuming process. Insects, however, have clear advantages: they are inexpensive, they can be easily raised, and can master such tasks with far fewer training times. Hundreds of them can learn to pick out certain smells quickly and currency, making them a more practical choice for this kind of work,” the researchers pointed out. “The study shows that ants can learn new things really fast,” the researchers added. “Besides finding cancer cells, this training method can be used for many other jobs. For example, it might help ants find dangerous things in places like disaster areas or detect early signs of other illnesses. Because ants learn quickly, they could be useful for tasks that need a sharp sense of smell--whether it’s spotting danger or helping doctors check for diseases in the future.” This study shows how nature inspires science. Tiny creatures like ants, which we often ignore might hold secrets to solving big human problems. Imagine a world where hospitals use ants to check for cancer in minutes instead of waiting for lab results! Of course, there’s still a lot to learn. Scientists need to make sure this method works perfectly before it can be used in real life. But one thing is clear: never underestimate the power of small things! 21.What can we know from CNRS’s study? A.Ants work well in treating cancer. B.Ants help humans keep off cancer. C.Ants are used to find people with cancer. D.Ants are able to smell out cancerous cells. 22.What’s the main idea of paragraph 2? A.It compares the sense of smell between ants and humans. B.It shows why sugar solution is important in the experiment. C.It describes the challenges of using ants in medical research. D.It explains how scientists trained ants to discriminate cancerous cells. 23.Why did the researchers make the ants smell different cancerous cells in tests? A.To compare ants’ correctness with other insects like bees. B.To test whether ants could tell apart cancerous or healthy cells and separate cancer types. C.To scientifically see how long ants could keep the memory of the original cancerous smell. D.To find out whether sugar rewards were necessary and important for further learning. 24.What are the advantages of insects compared with dogs in tests? ①They are cheaper.  ②They are easier to be raised.  ③They are better at fir ding things. ④They can be trained more quickly.  ⑤They have a sharper sense of smell. A.①②④ B.①②③ C.①③④ D.②③⑤ 25.What is the purpose of the last paragraph? A.To explain how ants are trained to detect cancer step by step. B.To describe the challenges scientists face in cancer detection. C.To show the importance of small creatures in solving big problems. D.To compare the costs of using ants and dogs in medical research. 三、任务型完形填空(共10小题; 每小题1.5分, 满分15分) 阅读下面的短文,用方框中所给词的适当形式填空,使文意通顺,结构正确。(每个单词限用一次) ( success    call    an    be    and    challenge    read    it    good    about ) DeepSeek is a new AI company from China. They hug trees to feel better! Lots of people are sharing their tree hugging experiences online and meeting to hug trees together. Humans have a natural love for nature, according to Edward O. Wilson, a scientist. This love makes us happier when we are around plants or cute animals. Matthew Silverstone, a researcher, wrote in his book Blinded by Science that trees can make us feel better and help us ① with different problems like not being able to pay attention or feeling sad. Some studies have found out why tree hugging can be good for our health. A study in 2021 reported that the activity can increase a hormone (激素) that is responsible for feelings. The higher the level of the hormone is, the calmer (更镇静的) and happier we may be. Hugging trees for only 21 seconds (秒) can lead to an increase in the hormone. However, ② such a natural therapy (疗法) is helpful in improving health, it can’t take the place of other healthy practices. We still need to see a doctor if necessary. Can we see them in our daily life? Are they good or bad for human beings? Fish may eat them by mistake and become very sick.”可知,随着微塑料一天天分解,它们 逐渐变得几乎不可见。鱼可能会误吃它们并病得很重。句中指分解后的微塑料会变得极小,难以被发现,因此“virtually invisible”意为“特别小且难以看见”。故选A。 20.最佳标题题。根据文中内容可知,文章开篇介绍微塑料小但带来大问题,随后围绕其来源、对人类和野生动物的危害展开,最后提出解决建议,因此“微小的塑料碎片引发巨大问题”能够概括文章主题。故选B。 C Ants have the ability to smell out cancerous cells (癌细胞) in humans, which has been discovered by a new study, suggesting that they could be used to find cancer in the future. In fact, not everyone thinks tree hugging is great. Martin Siaw is a plant scientist. He worries that the behavior may upset the tiny living things on trees. He reminds us that we should be careful not to hurt the trees when we are hugging them. 36.根据短文内容,分别写出①、②处所缺的单词。(每空限填1词) ① ② 37.请把短文中划线的句子翻译成汉语。 38.阅读短文,从短文中找出与下面句子意思相近的句子。 The hormone will increase if we hug trees for only 21 seconds. 39.根据短文内容回答下面的问题。(10个词以内) Why do we feel happier when we are around plants or cute animals according to Edward O.
