Emerald Lake Emerald Lake is one of the park’s most popular destinations for good reason. This 3.5-mile roundtrip gives you great value — you’ll enjoy three lovely mountain lakes and incredible views along the way. You’ll pass Nymph Lake, which is covered with lily pads (睡莲叶子), and the properly named Dream Lake, enjoying perfect views of Hallett Peak before reaching your final destination, Emerald Lake. Summer is especially beautiful. Tundra Communities This smooth, 1.2-mile round-trip road is a great way to explore the park. You can hike along Trail Ridge Road, take in sweeping mountain views, see unique rock formations, and spot tiny mountain wildflowers along the way. Bring a light jacket, as the weather is often colder and windier here than the rest of the park. Mills Lake A picture-perfect lake awaits at the end of this 5.3-mile roundtrip hike off the Glacier Gorge Trailhead. You’ll pass two waterfalls along the way as you climb a moderate 780 feet. Pack a picnic to enjoy on the rocks by the lake. Ouzel Falls Start from the Wild Basin Trailhead, located in the less-visited area of the park by the same name, and follow North St. Vrain Creek as you hike 5.4 miles roundtrip to the amazing 40-foot waterfall. Along the way, you’ll pass Copeland Falls and Calypso Cascades. After Ouzel Falls, the route continues for miles, passing various lakes along the way. It’s a popular route with backpackers. 21. Which hike offers the chance to see three beautiful mountain lakes? A. Emerald Lake. B. Tundra Communities. C. Mills Lake. D. Ouzel Falls. 22. What is special about the Ouzel Falls route? A. It is the toughest hike in the park. B. It features views of a 40-foot waterfall. C. It is covered with lily pads along the way. D. It climbs a moderate 780 feet. 23. What information does the text give about each of the four suggested hikes? A. The best season to visit. B. The difficulty level rating. C. A detailed route of the hike. D. The total distance of the hike. B Who needs culinary (烹饪的) school when you have the Internet and an unstoppable passion for cooking? Braxton Harst, a 12-year-old from Magee, Mississippi, is living proof that a determined kid can become a master cake baker all by himself. A couple of years ago, Braxton came across cake decorating videos online and was fascinated. He had never baked before, but he was hungry to learn. So, he searched online after homework, and spent hours watching videos. He learned how to make cakes flat and smooth, and how to decorate them. The first cake he attempted was flatter than a pancake. But Braxton wasn’t discouraged. He changed the recipe, tried again, and soon was making tasty and pretty cakes. Fast forward to now: this seventh-grader is turning out excellent cakes that wouldn’t look out of place in a bakery window. One of his most impressive creations was featured at the school bake sale and sold out in minutes. Braxton says his favorite part is the creativity: “Baking is like science and art mixed together. I can experiment and express myself. And it’s delicious!” His mom admits the kitchen often looks like a “flour storm” hit it, but she couldn’t be prouder. Braxton has even started a small side hustle (副业), selling custom cakes to family friends, with all earnings saved for his dream of attending a real culinary institute one day. But for now, he’s content to inspire others — he’s gained a local following on social media where he shares baking tips with fellow teens. Braxton’s journey shows that with curiosity, patience, and an Internet connection, a kid can transform an ordinary kitchen into a springboard for exceptional abilities. His advice to other young people: “Find something you love, learn everything about it, and don’t be afraid to mess up.” This is sweet wisdom coming from a rising star baker. 24. What initially inspired Braxton Harst to start baking cakes? A. His mother’s encouragement. B. His interest in science and art. C. Online cake decorating videos. D. The school bake sale. 25. What do we know about Braxton’s first attempt at making a cake? A. The cake tasted delicious. B. The cake was not so successful. C. The cake was decorated simply. D. The cake sold out in no time. 26. What does Braxton think is the most enjoyable part of baking? A. Making money from selling cakes. B. Following the recipes strictly. C. The process of hands-on experimentation. D. The innovation involved in it. 27. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. Start a Business as a Chef: Baking Cakes B. The Importance of Culinary School C. From Zero to Hero: A Boy’s Baking Journey D. The Science and Art of Baking Cakes C Literally a long read — this book is just over twice as long as it is wide — Nature’s Dance is a bifold (对开) hardback that explores the formations and movements of animals on the ground and in the earth, sea and sky. You might know a few. For example, geese often fly in a “V” shape. You can also see something like that when starling birds (椋鸟) move together in the sky, or when big groups of fish swim together in the sea. These “dances” usually serve a much greater purpose than the recreational dancing that we humans sometimes engage in — although it can be argued that we’re often doing much more than blowing off steam when we’re ballroom or nightclub dancing. For example, bees talk to each other by flying in special ways or by buzzing with different sounds. Sardines and other small fish gather in huge, orderly schools — sometimes millions strong. They form a ball, each fish perfectly positioned. This gives them the best chance to survive when potential attackers are nearby. Author and illustrator Núria Solsona has grouped six different species according to their different choreographies (编舞) — dances that can be seen being performed by other animals, too. She had put these dances under the microscope, examining the evolutionary reasons why each species has adopted a particular dance, while putting her artistic talent to the test by drawing some incredibly detailed and technical illustrations — her paintings of starling flights and sardine schools are particularly impressive. The unusual bifold format of this print suits Nature’s Dance really well. It’s a relatively short book, but there’s a lot to learn from it, even for nature lovers. It’ll certainly put the next flight of ducks or group of insects in a different light the next time you see them. 28. Why do sardines gather in huge schools? A. To find more food easily. B. To communicate with each other. C. To increase their chances of survival. D. To show their orderly characteristics. 29. What do we know about Núria Solsona from the text? A. She is good at both writing and drawing. B. She is a professional dancer. C. She is the first to discover animal dances. D. She prefers the bifold format to other formats. 30. What is the main topic of the book Nature’s Dance? A. Human dance history. B. The author’s artistic talent. C. Bee communication methods. D. Animal movement patterns. 31. What does the author imply in the last paragraph? A. The book is short but hard to read. B. The book targets professional biologists. C. The book offers new perspectives on nature. D. The book changes how readers view huge animals. D Denmark’s red mailboxes, a familiar sight across the country, are slowly disappearing. This is because PostNord, the state-run postal service, will stop delivering letters after December 30, 2025, though it will continue distributing packages. Letter delivery in Sweden will remain unchanged. “We have been the Danes (丹麦人)’ postal service for 400 years, and therefore it is a difficult decision to put a bow on that part of our story,” says Kim Pedersen, CEO for Post Nord Denmark. He explained that people now hardly receive any letters — on average, just one per month. Since the year 2000, the total number of letters sent in Denmark has fallen by over 90%, from more than 1.4 billion to under 200 million. In 2024 alone, the decline was more than 30% compared to the previous year. This decrease made the letter delivery service unprofitable. Another factor was a recent law that caused postage prices to rise sharply, to about $ 4.50 per letter. This further reduced the demand for sending mail. As a result, PostNord is removing its 1,500 red mailboxes from streets. About 1,000 have been sold already, and hundreds more will be auctioned (拍卖). The company has also let go of 1,500 employees due to the decline in letter volume. Although the national postal service is stopping letter delivery, people can still send letters through a private company called Dao. However, senders must either bring mail directly to a Dao shop or pay for a pickup service. Dao expects to handle many more letters next year as it expands its business. Denmark is the first European country to end its state-run letter delivery service, but it may not be the last. Postal services in other nations, such as Canada, the United States, and Greece, are also facing similar challenges. As one expert noted, Denmark is like a “canary (金丝雀) in the coal mine,” signaling a trend that could spread to other parts of the world as digital communication continues to replace traditional mail. 32. What will PostNord continue to do after December 30, 2025, in Denmark? A. Deliver letters to every household. B. Recycle red mailboxes. C. Distribute packages across the country. D. Provide pickup services for private mail. 33. What does the underlined phrase “put a bow on” in paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Improve. B. End. C. Decorate. D. Rewrite. 34. What can be inferred about the future of letter delivery in Denmark? A. The need for written communication is expected to grow shortly. B. Sending a letter will become more convenient but more expensive. C. The classic red mailboxes will be preserved as historical monuments. D. The volume of letters handled by a private company is expected to grow. 35. What can we learn from the expert’s words in the last paragraph? A. Denmark might lead where postal services are headed. B. Coal mines in Denmark need more safety measures. C. Digital communication will soon take over the world. D. Other European countries will stop letter delivery soon. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文、从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 While pesticides (杀虫剂) are common in many gardens, they’re not the only option when it comes to creating a beautiful backyard. But going organic isn’t merely about avoiding harm of pesticides. 36 Here, we explore steps to create a garden with natural interventions. Try lazy gardening Worried about leaves building up on your ground? Sweep pathways to keep them safe and clear, but leaves left to break down become natural plant nutrition and soil conditioner. 37 These multiple functions lay the foundation for a rich and healthy environment. Reframe the idea of “pests” and “weeds” The Royal Horticultural Society encourages gardeners to think of “pests” as “wildlife in the wrong place”. It reminds us that our plants can usually handle some level of damage, and the aim shouldn’t be to destroy these creatures, but to balance them to a tolerable level. 38 Most weeds are native species that provide food and shelter for wildlife. Use biological controls 39 Unlike pesticides, these natural predators (捕食者) don’t cause any damage to your plants or your health, and they can actually be more effective at targeting a specific problem. For example, got an aphid infestation (蚜虫侵害)? Introduce some beneficial insects that eat aphids. Learn to spot problems early When you can spot and identify problems early on, it’s much easier to take action. For instance, you find disease spots on the leaves of your climbing plants, and quickly cut the infected leaves off — the problem should be solved, and no treatment is required. Or your plants look weak, so you check if the water can go into the soil well, and adjust your watering schedule. 40 A. It’s about working with nature. B. Prevent weeds with organic matters. C. Going organic offers a full harvest of positives. D. They also provide safe habitats for garden creatures. E. Natural enemies can help you manage your garden ecosystem. F. This not only builds your gardening skills but also saves you money. G. Similarly, “weeds” are simply plants growing where we prefer them not to. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 Years ago, I was driving my father’s old car to an important client meeting on the highway. I didn’t know why I attempted the Wendy’s Breakfast Matching Game online. Funnily enough, on my first try, I matched three images. Up appeared: CONGRATULATIONS! YOU WON FREE BREAKFAST FOR A YEAR! One week later, a booklet of coupons (优惠券册) arrived in the mail. Free breakfast every week for a year. Fifty-two meals consisting of a breakfast sandwich, potato, and coffee or other drinks. What Tim said was true. I liked having breakfast while wearing pajamas (睡衣) in my own kitchen. Not dressed up, in public, or around strangers. It was this habit that made me unwilling to go out and afraid to communicate with strangers. Besides, I didn’t even drink coffee. So Tim suggested I go to the drive-through each week and eat my breakfast back home. Yes, I could do that. I was retired, and that seemed the best thing to do given my dislike of eating breakfast out. However, lately, I was staying home too much, content to write and read alone. I couldn’t remember the last time that I met someone new and made a friend. And my fashionable clothes from my working days had been replaced by pajamas. What if I changed my attitude? What if I used this win to change my breakfast habit just one day a week? I considered this opportunity a challenge. So the next morning, I woke up early, drove to Wendy’s (not dressed in my usual pajamas). My hands shook a little as I parked the car, and I took a deep breath before pushing the door open and going inside. When I presented my coupon for a free breakfast, the waiter’s eyes lit up instantly. He was overjoyed to welcome the very first winner at this restaurant. Then he happily introduced me to the entire breakfast crew. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 At this moment, I could tell he was excited, but I was extremely nervous. Thanks to the warm-hearted waiter, I gave up the idea of eating back home. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
