一、阅读理解
(25-26高二下·海南省直辖县级单位·开学考试)AI chatbots can mimic the style of famous poets like William Shakespeare well enough to trick many human readers, according to a new paper published in Scientific Reports. In addition, many study participants even preferred the chatbot’s poetry over the works of celebrated writers.
Researchers asked AI to generate poems in the style of well-known authors like Walt Whitman, T.S. Eliot, Emily Dickinson, and William Shakespeare. Then, they asked 1,634 participants to read ten poems — five written by a human poet, and five written by the chatbot in the style of that same human poet — and identify which poems were fake and which were real. The results? Participants guessed correctly around 46 percent of the time — barely better than by chance.
In a second experiment, another group of participants rated poems on 14 qualities, ranging from rhythm (韵律) to originality. Some were told whether the poem was written by AI or a human, while others were not. As a result, those who believed they were reading human-written poems rated them higher than those who believed they were reading AI-created poems — regardless of what they were actually reading. But the team also uncovered a surprise: The participants who weren’t told about authorship actually gave higher ratings, on average, to AI-produced poems.
Why do readers seem to prefer AI-created poetry? The researchers suggest that AI poems may be more straightforward to understand. Because AI-produced poems cannot match the complexity of human-authored verse (韵文), they may communicate themes and emotions more clearly to non-expert readers. Beyond the themes and emotions, AI poems were also simpler in terms of their overall form and style.
The study’s findings seem to confirm many people’s concerns that AI could replace human artists. Poet Dorothea Lasky says it’s not necessarily a bad thing that readers enjoyed the AI-created poems. “Poetry will always be necessary,” she says. “If people favored AI poems, then that, to me, is beautiful. I feel there is room for all poets-even robot poets.”

In addition, many study participants even preferred the chatbot’s poetry over the works of celebrated writers.
Researchers asked AI to generate poems in the style of well-known authors like Walt Whitman, T.S. Eliot, Emily Dickinson, and William Shakespeare. Then, they asked 1,634 participants to read ten poems — five written by a human poet, and five written by the chatbot in the style of that same human poet — and identify which poems were fake and which were real. The results? Participants guessed correctly around 46 percent of the time — barely better than by chance.
In a second experiment, another group of participants rated poems on 14 qualities, ranging from rhythm (韵律) to originality. Some were told whether the poem was written by AI or a human, while others were not. The poem Dream by Langston Hughes is very short with only 8 lines. When I read the poem aloud I can hear that the ends of the second and fourth sentences rhyme—"die" and "fly". The last words from the sixth and eighth sentences also rhyme—"go" and "snow".
When I close my eyes, I can see different images from the poem. For example, I can see a broken-winged bird that cannot fly and a barren field frozen with snow. These images show how sad life would be without dreams.
I think the poet is giving us advice. He wants us to keep dreaming, because life is much better when we have dreams and something to look forward to.
