W: Yes, but we’re just as fond of good and delicious food as you are. We like to eat out on special occasions, such as weekend evenings, birthday parties and other celebrations. And that’s what I like about London. There’s always so much to see and I meet lots of different people. C.A summer holiday. 19.What is the biggest challenge of sailing alone on the Arctic seas? A.The loss of direction. B.The extreme weather. C.The difficulty in seeking help. 20.What does the speaker think of his trip? A.Boring. B.Rewarding. C.Smooth. M: I can’t remember when I made the decision to sail to the North Pole. The previous summer, I’d come across a book, Far Horizons, which suggested a journey of this kind was a unique experience. So I put on thick clothes and set off in my boat in July with some friends to sail to the Arctic seas. I’d been told that sailing there, you won’t have more problems than you’d expect on a normal sailing trip. Well, at first it was true. But there are differences. The most noticeable is that you’re alone there. If anything breaks down, you need to have all the tools you need. There’s no one you can turn to for help. The second difference is the temperature. In summer, the surface sea water is always above freezing but the air temperature never goes above ten degrees. For all the effort, we’re rewarded with a trip to a true wilderness, which can be reached in our very own boat. A Welcome to the library The University Library is a busy and lively building which reflects the multicultural nature of the wider university community. When I got off, I realized I didn’t have my wallet. I knew I had it when I boarded. A frantic (急切的) search through my pockets confirmed it was gone. I had left it on the train. A station attendant took the details but pointed out it was rush hour; the chances of recovery had probably disappeared. I cancelled my cards, feeling horribly stupid and embarrassed. A couple of hours later, I looked at my phone. There was an email from a woman named Natalya. She had found my wallet on the train, she explained, and had already dropped it off at my company’s office. Everything was well preserved. She had seen my workplace from a card and took the trouble to return it. Cheeringly, I was not alone. Soon after, I read an article by another journalist, Sam McBride, who had his lost wallet returned by a bus driver, cash untouched. Perhaps these stories were just a coincidence (巧合). The safer explanation, however, is simply that there are more Natalyas than you may think. I can’t guarantee that if you lose your wallet, a good citizen will return it. We live in a naughty world. But I am prepared to say that the chances of encountering kindness are quite a bit higher than the common pessimistic view that might lead you to believe. The media are heartless drivers of our collective pessimism. As a result, a story like mine is rarely considered worth sharing. Of course, my story was insignificant. But Natalya’s act poses a larger possibility. Her kindness reminded me that, in spite of so much evidence to the contrary, the better angels of our nature are not dead. There are still things in our society which work well, exactly as you want them to. 24.What was the writer’s first reaction upon realizing his wallet was lost? A.He immediately reported the loss to the police. B.He remained calm and quickly thought of a solution. C.He conducted a hurried search and felt deeply ashamed. D.He held a belief that the wallet would be returned soon. 25.What did Natalya do after finding the wallet? A.Contact the author’s bank. B.Hand it to a train attendant. C.Wait for the owner’s call. D.Take it to the author’s office. 26.Why does the author mention the media? A.To explain why people tend to be pessimistic. B.To blame them for only reporting bad news. C.To encourage them to share more stories like his. D.To suggest they are the cause of social problems. 27.What does the author mainly want to express? A.Always protect your personal items in public. B.Kind acts from strangers are rarely seen today. C.Society’s future is based on our own behavior. D.Good deeds are more common than we think. 根据第一段中“A frantic (急切的) search through my pockets confirmed it was gone. I had left it on the train. A station attendant took the details but pointed out it was rush hour; the chances of recovery had probably disappeared. I cancelled my cards, feeling horribly stupid and embarrassed.(我急切地在口袋里翻找了一番,结果发现它不见了。我把它落在了火车上了。一位车站工作人员记录了相关细节,但指出现在是高峰时段,找回的可能性已经不大了。我取消了信用卡服务,心里感到非常懊恼和尴尬)”可知,作者在意识到钱包丢失后的第一反应是匆忙寻找,并感到深深的羞愧。故选C。 25.细节理解题。根据第二段中“She had found my wallet on the train, she explained, and had already dropped it off at my company’s office.(她解释说,她在火车上找到了我的钱包,已经把它送到了我公司的办公室)”可知,娜塔莉亚在找到钱包后,把它送到了作者的办公室。故选D。 26. 根据第五段中“The media are heartless drivers of our collective pessimism. As a result, a story like mine is rarely considered worth sharing.(媒体是我们集体悲观情绪的无情推动者。因此,像我这样的故事很少被认为值得分享)”可知,作者提到媒体是为了解释为什么人们倾向于悲观,因为媒体往往只报道负面新闻,而忽略了像作者这样积极的故事。故选A。 27. 通读全文,尤其是根据最后一段中“Her kindness reminded me that, in spite of so much evidence to the contrary, the better angels of our nature are not dead. There are still things in our society which work well, exactly as you want them to.(她的善良提醒我,尽管有大量相反的证据,但我们天性中善良的一面并没有消亡。在我们的社会中,仍然有一些事情运转得很好,正如你所希望的那样)”可知,文章主要讲述了作者丢失钱包后意外找回,并由此感悟到善意行为比想象中更常见。作者通过自己的经历想要表达的是“善意行为比我们想象中更常见”。故选D。 C Pick up any packaged processed food, and there’s a decent chance that one of its listed ingredients will be “natural flavour”. The ingredient sounds good, particularly in contrast to “artificial flavours” since there is a common belief that ingredients from nature are necessarily safer than something artificially made. But it’s not true. Then what exactly does the natural flavour mean? It refers to extracts (提取物) got from natural sources like plants, meat or seafood. When consumers see the “natural flavour” on a label, they are unlikely to assume that someone is squeezing the juice from oranges into their bottles. They know even though natural flavour must come from natural sources, it needn’t all come from the plant or meat. For example, orange flavours might contain not only orange extracts, but also extracts from bark and grass. So if flavours like orange are needed, why not just use oranges? The answer comes down to “availability, cost, and sustainability”, according to flavour chemist Gary Reineccius of the University of Minnesota. “If you’re going to use all your grapes on grape soda,” Reineccius says, “you don’t have any grapes for wine making; the products are going to be exorbitant; besides, what do you do with the by-products you create after you’ve squeezed all the juice out of the grapes?” Actually, while chemists make natural flavours by extracting chemicals from natural ingredients, artificial flavours are made by creating the same chemicals artificially. The reason why companies bother to use natural flavours rather than artificial flavours is simple: marketing. “Many of these products have health titles,” says Platkin, professor from Hunter College. “Consumers may be talked to believe products with natural flavours are healthier, though they are nutritionally no different from those with artificial flavours. Natural flavours may involve more forest clear-cutting and carbon emissions from transport than flavours created in the lab.” Platkin suggests getting more transparent (易懂的) labeling on packaging that describes exactly what the natural or artificial flavours are, so consumers are not misled into buying one product over another because of “natural flavours”. Reineccius also offers simple guidance: “Don’t buy anything because it says ‘natural flavours’. Buy it because you like it.” 28.Which is misunderstanding about the “natural flavour” juice according to Paragraph 1? A.It comes from 100% original fruit. B.It is nothing but advertising tricks. C.It certainly contains extracts made in the lab. D.It is absolutely safer than juice with artificial flavours. 29.What does the underlined word “exorbitant” in Paragraph 2 probably mean? A.Popular. B.Expensive. C.Favorable. D.Innovative. 30.Why do companies use natural flavours in the products? A.To cut the costs. B.To promote the sales. C.To advocate a healthy diet. D.To avoid food safety issues. 31.What can we conclude from the text? A.Gary and Platkin hold opposite perspectives. B.Natural flavours are more environmentally friendly. C.Customers are misled for ignoring labels on packaging. D.Natural and artificial flavours are more alike than you think. 根据第一段“The ingredient sounds good, particularly in contrast to “artificial flavours” since there is a common belief that ingredients from nature are necessarily safer than something artificially made. But it’s not true.(这种成分听起来不错,尤其是与“人工香料”相比,因为人们普遍认为来自自然界的成分必然比人工合成的更安全。但事实并非如此。)”可知,关于“天然风味”果汁的误解是它绝对比添加了人工香料的果汁安全得多。故选D。 29.词句猜测题。根据第二段“The answer comes down to “availability, cost, and sustainability”, according to flavour chemist Gary Reineccius of the University of Minnesota.(据明尼苏达大学的风味化学家加里·雷内库斯称,答案归结为“可获得性、成本和可持续性”这几个方面。)”和最后一句中的“If you’re going to use all your grapes on grape soda(如果你打算将所有的葡萄都用于制作葡萄汽水的话)”以及“you don’t have any grapes for wine making(你就没有用于酿酒的葡萄了)”可知,此处是指产品的成本会非常高昂,exorbitant意为“昂贵的”。故选B。 30. 根据第三段第二句“The reason why companies bother to use natural flavours rather than artificial flavours is simple: marketing.(企业之所以倾向于使用天然香料而非人工香料,原因很简单——那就是营销策略。)” 根据第三段最后一句中的“Consumers may be talked to believe products with natural flavours are healthier, though they are nutritionally no different from those with artificial flavours.(消费者可能会被说服相信,带有天然口味的产品更健康,但实际上这些产品在营养成分上与带有人工口味的产品并无差异。)” D。 D When my older son Jack was in high school, he accepted a summer job selling solar panels door-to-door. My first reaction was to tell him not to do it. I felt protective — afraid of the rejection he would face on doorsteps all summer long. I just couldn’t see how my thoughtful son, a good athlete and straight-A student, could cope with so much failure. Instead, we can learn to let kids fail well. Give your kids space to fail in contained, safe ways, and teach them to embrace and learn from the failures they experience. Show them how to face forward and go after the next challenge with renewed insight and energy. This mindset — what psychologist Carol Dweck calls a growth mindset — is an invaluable resource for children, particularly in a fast-changing world. When my younger son Nick, learning to ski at about age eight, asked me to watch him come down the slope, I dutifully stood at the bottom and waited. After his short run, he looked up and asked, “How did I do?” My response? “You did great!” But instead of the smile I’d expected, Nick looked puzzled, even disappointed, as he replied, “Can’t you tell me what I did wrong so I can get better?” Now I was the one smiling. Somehow, as a parent, I had helped nurture this growth mindset. Intimately familiar with Dweck’s research as a social psychologist myself, I should have commented on his process (“You were in control of your speed, and you looked like you were enjoying yourself. If you bend your knees a little more and keep your chest facing downhill, your form will be better”) rather than praising his results (“You did great!”). And now Nick showed me that what I was trying to do was working. How do you start? Stop yourself from reactively protecting your child from failure. Notice your instincts, which, while valuable in so many contexts, are not helpful in others. Initially, ask yourself, “What is the risk here? What kind of failure would this be?” to help you override your instinct to shield children from life’s most valuable lessons. Encourage them to take smart risks Create (and help them create) opportunities to stretch. Support their growth as they do so, while helping them think through the possible outcomes of choices they are considering. Then let them choose. 32.What was the author’s reaction to Jack’s summer job? A.She encouraged Jack to take the smart risk. B.She worried about Jack’s ability to handle rejection. C.She thought it would help Jack build a strong will. D.She considered the context of the possible failure. 33.What does the author want to show with Nick’s story? A.Nick is naturally gifted at skiing. B.Dweck’s research is very useful. C.Her positive feedbacks to Nick worked. D.Timely praise makes a difference to kids. 34.What does the author advise first before acting? A.Assess risks. B.Protect kids. C.Let kids choose. D.Create chances· 35.Which of the following is the best title for the passage? A.Dweck’s Growth Mindset Theory on Failure. B.Let Kids Fail A Lesson in Building Confidence. C.The Essential Values Gained from Kids’ Failure. D.Parent’s Guide to Fostering Kids’ Growth Mindset. 根据第一段“I felt protective — afraid of the rejection he would face on doorsteps all summer long.(我心里生出一种保护欲——害怕整个夏天他挨家挨户上门时,会遭遇那些拒绝。)” 根据倒数第三段“And now Nick showed me that what I was trying to do was working.(现在尼克向我证明了我正在努力做的事情是行得通的)”可知,作者通过尼克的故事想要表明她对尼克的积极反馈起了作用。故选C。 34. 根据倒数第二段“Initially, ask yourself, “What is the risk here? What kind of failure would this be?” to help you override your instinct to shield children from life’s most valuable lessons.( 首先,问问自己:“这里存在什么样的风险?这可能会导致什么样的失败?”这样有助于你克服那种想要保护孩子免受人生最重要教训影响的本能心理。)”可知,在行动之前,作者首先建议评估风险。故选A。 35. 根据第二段“Instead, we can learn to let kids fail well. Give your kids space to fail in contained, safe ways, and teach them to embrace and learn from the failures they experience. Show them how to face forward and go after the next challenge with renewed insight and energy.(相反,我们可以教导孩子们如何正确地面对失败。 Running offers numerous advantages such as enhancing health and even forming new friendships. 36 Do you want to break the tape at the finish line? Here are quality tips on how to run cross-country faster. As with any running plan, boosting your cross-country rate starts with building a base. Aerobic (有氧的) fitness comes into play during this foundational phase, which means your muscles are receiving a sufficient amount of oxygen and energy. 37 Apart from consistent running, for an anaerobic (无氧的) push, it’s essential to occasionally add in anaerobic exercise: strides — short bursts of a faster pace, which can sharpen the legs. You can do something a little bit quick over a brief duration. 38 Training anaerobically comes in handy for that end-of-the-race kick. 39 Compared to road racing, cross-country landscapes are undeniably diverse with windy paths, steep hills or sharp turns, seeming impossible to gain speed on. A good knowledge of the types of environment you’ll be racing on guarantees you know how to engage your muscles differently on the race day. A track is flat and controlled with at most 20 people in a race while in cross-country, you can have up to 200 people on the starting line. Be aware of who is around you and use them as a reference point and find that moment to speed up. It’s hard to put a time to one course with courses ranging from flat golf courses to hilly, muddy paths. 40 It’s more about the competition, not the time. A.Is there a specific technique? B.Just focus on the race at hand. C.It enables them to sustain long runs. D.You can refer to landmarks for the directions. E.So when you do go faster, it won’t be a shock to the body. F.Familiarity with the setting of the competition is also a must. G.But when it comes to racing cross-country, speed matters most. 36.前文“Running offers numerous advantages such as enhancing health and even forming new friendships. (跑步有很多好处,比如增进健康,甚至结交新朋友)”提到跑步的各种好处,后文“Do you want to break the tape at the finish line? Here are quality tips on how to run cross-country faster. (你想冲过终点线吗?这里有一些关于如何更快地进行越野跑的优质建议)”指出有建议可以帮助跑得更快,空处应起到过渡作用,和跑步速度有关,因此G项“But when it comes to racing cross-country, speed matters most. (但在越野跑中,速度是最重要的)”符合语境,指出越野跑中速度最重要,和前文构成转折,引出后文的建议。故选G。 37.前文“Aerobic (有氧的) fitness comes into play during this foundational phase, which means your muscles are receiving a sufficient amount of oxygen and energy.(有氧健身在这个基础阶段起作用,这意味着你的肌肉得到了足够的氧气和能量)”指出基础阶段需要进行有氧健身,增强肌肉,空处是段末句,应该是继续说明通过有氧运动增强肌肉对越野跑的用处,因此C项“It enables them to sustain long runs. (这使它们能够维持长时间的跑步)”符合语境,承接前文,其中的them指代前文的your muscles。故选C。 38.前文“Apart from consistent running, for an anaerobic (无氧的) push, it’s essential to occasionally add in anaerobic exercise: strides — short bursts of a faster pace, which can sharpen the legs. You can do something a little bit quick over a brief duration.(除了持续的跑步,为了增强无氧能力,偶尔加入无氧运动也很重要:比如冲刺跑—短距离的快速跑,这能增强腿部力量。你可以进行一些短时间内的快速运动)”建议偶尔进行无氧运动,增强腿部力量,后文“Training anaerobically comes in handy for that end-of-the-race kick.(无氧训练对比赛快结束时的冲刺很有用)”指出无氧训练的好处,空处应该也是点明其好处,因此E项“So when you do go faster, it won’t be a shock to the body. (所以当你跑得更快时,它不会对身体造成冲击)”符合语境,承接前文。故选E。 39.后文“Compared to road racing, cross-country landscapes are undeniably diverse with windy paths, steep hills or sharp turns, seeming impossible to gain speed on. A good knowledge of the types of environment you’ll be racing on guarantees you know how to engage your muscles differently on the race day.(与公路赛相比,越野赛的地形无疑更加多样,有蜿蜒曲折的小径、陡峭的山坡或急转弯,似乎很难提速。对比赛环境类型有充分的了解,能确保你在比赛当天知道如何以不同的方式调动肌肉)”主要说明越野赛地形多样,需要对其环境有所了解,空处作为段首句,应该是总的建议熟悉越野赛的环境,因此F项“Familiarity with the setting of the competition is also a must. (熟悉比赛的环境也是必须的)”符合语境,契合后文内容。故选 F。 40.前文“It’s hard to put a time to one course with courses ranging from flat golf courses to hilly, muddy paths.(由于赛道类型多样,从平坦的高尔夫球场到起伏泥泞的小路都有,所以很难为一场比赛设定一个固定的时长)”指出为越野赛确定固定时长并不实际,后文“It’s more about the competition, not the time.(更重要的是竞争,而不是时间)”指出竞争本身比时间更重要,空处应该是建议关注比赛本身,因此 B项“Just focus on the race at hand. (专注于眼前的比赛)”符合语境,承前启后。故选B。 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 Mrs Smith, the English teacher, gave the class a writing assignment. “Write something about summer vacation,” she said. “Be as 41 as you can. My parents are big basketball fans, so they named me after him, sparking my love-hate relationship with the name. We share only our passion for basketball; he’s a tall, famous icon, while I'm a short boy who can barely dribble (运球) the ball without dropping it. Every Saturday, the Central District’s Boys and Girls Club sponsors league-play for all age groups. My age group, 9 to 11, is the biggest. For years, I was always the last picked. “He’s too small!” Louis, a team captain, would say coldly while my teammates laughed. I’d sit on the hard bench the whole game, then lie to my dad about having fun, my heart aching to do my part for the team instead of just watching from the sidelines. Last November, I got to play, thanks to Thanksgiving trips and flu season. I tried to make up for my poor skills by being really aggressive. I would always defend the biggest kid on the other team, and ended up with a bloody nose. The Boys and Girls Club has a great nurse’s room. I know because I spent more time in there than on the court. The nurse was a Vietnamese lady, and because none of the kids could pronounce her name, they called her Skimmy. Skimmy didn’t know anything about basketball or any other American sports, but she was nice and had a pretty smile. By my twelfth nosebleed, Skimmy was my friend. It was she who finally helped me become a better player. “Mr. Shaq,” she said one Saturday, “I watch you play. You always get hurt. Why do you play that way? Why don’t you take advantage of what you are? I watch you — you are fast. You are speedier than a meteor. Why don’t you get faster?” 注意: 1.写作词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 What Skimmy had said made a lot of sense: ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The next Saturday, I stepped onto the court with a different plan. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 What Skimmy had said made a lot of sense: I had been so busy trying to act tough and guard the tallest players that I completely ignored my own strength — speed. For the first time, I stopped focusing on my height and poor dribbling. Instead, I started practicing running every day after school, racing along the street and practicing quick turns. I no longer tried to fight with big guys but learned to use my speed to move freely on the court. Skimmy’s words lit up a path for me, and I was determined to show my value in my own way. The next Saturday, I stepped onto the court with a different plan. When the game began, I ran quickly across the court, stealing the ball from opponents before they could react. My speed surprised everyone, including Louis. I passed the ball accurately to teammates and helped score several times. I didn’t get hurt or sit on the bench anymore. At the end of the game, my teammates cheered for me. For the first time, I truly felt like a useful part of the team, and my heart was full of pride and joy. 词类激活 行为类 ①忽略:ignore/overlook ②专注于:focus on/concentrate on ③喝彩:cheer/applaud 情绪类 ①决心做:be determined to/resolve to ②快乐:joy/pleasure/delight 【点睛】【高分句型1】 I had been so busy trying to act tough and guard the tallest players that I completely ignored my own strength — speed.(运用了so...that...句型引导结果状语从句) 【高分句型2】 When the game began, I ran quickly across the court, stealing the ball from opponents before they could react.(运用了when和before引导时间状语从句,以及现在分词作状语) 试卷第1页,共3页 试卷第1页,共3页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 绝密★考试结束前 2026年高考第三次模拟考试 英语 (考试时间:120分钟 试卷满分:150分) 注意事项: 1. 1.What will Alan do today? C Pick up any packaged processed food, and there’s a decent chance that one of its listed ingredients will be “natural flavour”. D When my older son Jack was in high school, he accepted a summer job selling solar panels door-to-door. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Running offers numerous advantages such as enhancing health and even forming new friendships. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 Mrs Smith, the English teacher, gave the class a writing assignment. I can't remember when I made the decision to sale to the north pole the previous summer. I'd come across a book, far horizons, which suggested a journey of this kind was a unique experience.
