Passage 1
(24-25学年高二下·福建福州八市·期中)
Jenny was the only child in her family. She had a quarrel (吵架) with her mother that afternoon and she ran out of the house angrily. She couldn’t help weeping sorrowfully when she thought of the scolding from her mother. Having wandered aimlessly in the street for hours, she felt a little hungry and wished for something to eat. She stood beside a stand (货摊) for a while, watching the middle-aged seller busy doing his business. However, with no money in hand, she gave a sigh and had to leave.
The seller behind the stand noticed the young girl and asked, “Hey, girl, you want to have the noodles?”
“Oh, yes, but I don’t have money on me.” she replied.
“That’s nothing. I’ll treat you today,” said the man, “Come in.”
The seller brought her a bowl of noodles, whose smell was so attractive. As she was eating, Jenny cried silently.
“What is it?” asked the man kindly.
“Nothing. Actually, I was just touched by your kindness!” said Jenny as she wiped her tears. “Even a stranger on the street will give me a bowl of noodles, while my mother drove me out of the house. She showed no care for me. She is so merciless compared to a stranger!”
Hearing the words, the seller smiled, “Girl, do you really think so? I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you thanked me a lot. But it is your mother who has raised you since you were a baby. Can you remember the times she cooked for you? Have you expressed your gratitude to her?”
Jenny sat there, speechless and numb with shock: she remembered her mother’s familiar face and weathered hands. “Why didn’t I think of that? A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel grateful. Why haven’t I thanked my mum for what she has done for me?”
On the way home. Jenny made up her mind to make an apology to her mother for her rudeness as soon as she arrived home.

Passage 2
(24-25学年高二下·福建南安·期中)
“Surprise!” was the first thing I heard when I opened the door. My family and friends were all smiling at me. There were colorful balloons all over the house, a big poster saying “HAPPY BIRTHDAY”, and of course a cake with 12 candles. It was a wonderful feeling, I knew that I had finally turned twelve and I might possibly get the thing I wanted most.
I saw my mom and dad coming towards me with a small box which seemed to be a birthday present. When I opened the box, I couldn’t believe my eyes. I had really gotten a mobile phone! Throwing myself into their arms, I let out a cry of joy, “Thank you! I love you guys!” “You’re welcome. We knew this was going to make you happy but we didn’t only get you this because you turned twelve, but also because you are doing well in school. We expect you to keep getting good grades.” “Of course I will.” I said confidently.
As soon as I got to school the next morning, I was showing off my phone and asking everyone for their number. It was cool how I got so many contacts on the first day. It felt like I didn’t even exist in that class anymore. I wouldn’t pay much attention to the teachers because 1 was too busy on my phone. However, I didn’t get caught using it.
I am pretty sure that the teacher did notice that I stopped paying attention to her because a week later we took a test and I failed. What was worse, my mom had to sign the test.
It was hard to show my mom the test. She was used to seeing A’s and B’s on my tests. Finally, I showed it to her, and she couldn’t believe it. She was angry but most of al, she was disappointed.

Passage 3
(24-25学年高二下·福建南平·期中)
I’d always been told to take care of my older brother, Brian, who was born weak and small. I’d often tie his shoes or prepare another glass of water for him. My mom saw my larger size and strong body as a sign that I was to be a kind of guardian angel (守护天使) for Brian. However, that was not the case.
One day our school sponsored a pumpkin-carving contest. First prize was $100, and I knew just how I would spend it. There was a brand-new game I was dying to own. So I decided the first place bonus definitely had to land in my pocket.
When I had to carve the perfect pumpkin I’d picked out, it dawned on me that with my big clumsy fingers I’d surely screw it up (搞砸). I thought of Brian’s smaller, delicate hands and knew he was the man for the job. I immediately begged Brian. Unexpectedly, he asked for a cut. That was fifty-fifty. Quickly doing the math in my head, I figured out even if I split (分摊) the first prize, I’d still have enough cash for the game. So I gave in to Brian’s demands. With skillful hands Brian carved the perfect face, and now we had the best pumpkin ever.
Then the unexpected happened: We came in second. Unfortunately, second prize was only $50, and I needed every penny of that to buy the game. The day of the awards ceremony, the principal handed over the money to me because Brian was home, sick with cold.
If he really wanted to win, he would have been here today, I thought to myself, justifying stealing the cash from under poor Brian’s runny nose. With hardly a thought, I ran to the store and bought my dream game. That night when Brian asked if we had won, I denied, afraid to look into his eyes.
The whole thing was never mentioned again until the day when Brian was packing for college. I played my usual role in helping him pack when I came across an old album filled with photos he had taken as the school photographer.

Passage 4
(24-25学年高二下·福建莆田八中·期中)
Ethan was a single father, raising a seven-year-old son alone. Whenever his boy came back hurt after playing with his friend, he would feel deeply sorry for his dead wife, the helplessness and grief coming in waves.
This occurred on the day he was on business, leaving the child alone.
In order to catch the train, he hurried out without accompanying his child to breakfast. He was worried about the child all the way and upset, not knowing if he had his meal and cried. He kept phoning his child even when he arrived at the destination. But his child always sensibly told him not to worry about him. However, because he was worried and upset, he set foot on the way home after he hurriedly handled the affairs.
When he got home and saw the child had slept soundly, he sighed with relief. The journey made him tired out. When he was about to sleep, he was astonished to find there was an overturned (打翻的) bowl of soaked noodles under the quilt. “This child!” Flying into a rage, he fiercely spanked (打屁股) his son sleeping soundly. “Why don’t you obey to Daddy? You are so naughty, making the quilt dirty! Who will wash it for you?” It was the first time he punished his boy after his wife’s death.
“I haven’t . . . ” the child argued as he sobbed, “I’m not naughty. This . . . this is the supper for Daddy. ” It turned out that in order to meet the hour of Daddy’s return, the child soaked two bowls of noodles, one for himself, the other for Daddy. But because he was afraid his Daddy’s noodles would turn cold, he placed them under the quilt to keep them hot.

Passage 1
(24-25学年高二下·福建福州一中·期中)
Li Ming was a 17-year-old exchange student from China. With a heart full of dreams and a little bit of nervousness, he flew to the United Kingdom to start a new adventure. He had always imagined what it would be like to walk through the historic streets of England and meet people from different parts of the world. But as soon as he arrived at his new school, he felt a little unsure.
In his new class, Li Ming struggled to start conversations with his British classmates. They spoke so quickly and used words and phrases he didn't understand. When he tried to join their conversations, he felt shy about his accent and worried that he might say something wrong. He also noticed that British students seemed to value their personal space more than he was used to, which made it even harder for him to find the right moment to start a meaningful talk.
Group work was even harder. During a group project in literature class, Li Ming had trouble explaining his ideas clearly, feeling like his ideas were getting lost in translation. And he started to
doubt himself.
Social events outside of class were just as difficult. At a school party, Li Ming watched his classmates laugh, dance, and sing along to the latest pop songs. He felt left out, not knowing the songs or the dance moves. He wanted to join the fun, but the fear of looking silly kept him on the sidelines.
One day, the school announced a talent show, Li Ming, who practiced traditional Chinese kung fu, really wanted to try. While he was hesitating, a group of British students interested in cultural performances invited him to join them. Li Ming agreed.

Passage 2
(24-25学年高二下·福建恒一集团·期中)
When I was in middle school, my social studies teacher asked me to enter a writing contest. I said no without thinking. I did not love writing. My family came from Brazil, so English was only my second language. Writing was so difficult and painful for me that my teacher had allowed me to present my paper on the sinking of the Titanic by acting out a play, where I played all the parts. No one laughed harder than he did.
So, why did he suddenly force me to do something at which I was sure to fail? His reply: “Because I love your stories. If you’re willing to apply yourself, I think you have a good shot at this.” Encouraged by his words, I agreed to give it a try.
I chose Paul Revere’s horse as my subject. Paul Revere was a silversmith (银匠) in Boston who rode a horse at night on April 18, 1775 to Lexington to warn people that British soldiers were coming. My story would come straight from the horse’s mouth. Not a brilliant idea, but funny; and unlikely to be anyone else’s choice.
What did the horse think, as he sped through the night? Did he get tired? Have doubts? Did he want to quit? I sympathized immediately. I got tired. I had doubts. I wanted to quit. But, like Revere’s horse, I kept going. I worked hard. I checked my spelling. I asked my older sister to correct my grammar. I checked out a half dozen books on Paul Revere from the library. I even read a few of them.
When I handed in the essay to my teacher, he read it, laughed out loud, and said, “Great. Now, write it again.” I wrote it again, and again and again. When I finally finished it, the thought of winning had given way to the enjoyment of writing. If I didn’t win, I wouldn’t care.

Passage 3
(24-25学年高二下·福建龙岩·期中)
The Dream of a Young Pianist
In a small, quiet town, there lived a young boy named Alex. From a young age, Alex was fascinated by the magic of the piano. The moment he heard the first harmonious melody floating from an old piano in his school auditorium, a dream was born — to become a distinguished pianist.
Determined to pursue his passion, Alex begged his parents to let him take piano lessons. His parents, though not wealthy, saw the fire in his eyes and decided to make sacrifices. They bought him a second-hand piano and enrolled him in a local music school. Alex practiced day and night, his fingers flying over the keys, filled with the hope of one day performing on a grand stage.
However, life had other plans. One day, while riding his bike to school, Alex was involved in an accident. His right hand was severely injured, and the doctor’s words ruined his dreams: He might never play the piano again. For weeks, Alex sank into a deep depression. He refused to look at the piano and lost all hope. In his dimly lit bedroom, the boy sat aimlessly every day, his head hung low. His hands, once full of promise, now bore the scars of an accident that shattered his dream of becoming a pianist.
His music teacher Jack had been worried about him since then and tried to comfort him. Until one day, Jack walked into his room. “I know it hurts,” Jack said softly, “but your love for music is not in your hands alone. It’s in your heart.” Jack shared the stories of some famous composers and musicians who overcame physical limitations and hardships. These words lit a spark in the boy. Alex decided he wouldn’t let this setback define him. With painstaking effort and countless hours of rehabilitation, he slowly regained some movement in his hand. He started practicing the piano again, very slowly at first. Each note was a struggle, but he persevered.

Passage 4
(24-25学年高二下·福建莆田华侨中学·期中)
Eleven-year-old Mike was new to Finch School. Because of a stutter (口吃), he was often laughed at by his former classmates. Therefore, he was very shy, and didn’t talk much. This made Mike feel extremely lonely. He often sat alone in the corner during breaks, watching his classmates play and laugh together. He longed to join them but was too afraid to take the first step. His stutter felt like a barrier, separating him from the rest of the world.
In fact, he wanted to communicate with his new classmates, but was afraid of being made fun of by them, just like before. So he chose to stay alone and hardly talk to anyone. Noticing his behaviour, Mrs White, his English teacher, approached him, and asked about his problem. Realizing how Mike had difficulty expressing himself in class and fitting in, she decided to help him.
In order to encourage Mike to be brave, she told him everyone was different, and praised his creativity and efforts. She would always smile at him and declare, “You did a good job! ” She also showed Mike’s report to the class, praising how careful his writing was.
One day, Mrs White asked every student to participate in a speech contest in class. Nervous and anxious, Mike felt his heart beating fast. It was impossible for him to stand in front of the class to finish a speech. What if he stuttered? What if they laughed at him? Discouraged by these thoughts, he went to Mrs White’s office after class, asking if he could skip the contest. Smiling gently, Mrs White encouraged him to believe in his abilities and offered to help him prepare for it.

Passage 1
(24-25学年高二下·福建泉州四校·期中)
One windy day in March, Kitty Miller was on her way to school when she glanced into a store window and saw a great pile of lovely red apples. “Oh,” She exclaimed (惊呼). “How lovely! If only Mamma could have one!” Immediately, the store owner recognized the familiar girl and asked her to pick one. Kitty just shook her head and ran away shyly.
Kitty’s mother was extremely poor. She had been a dressmaker ever since Kitty’s father died, and had to work hard to earn a living for herself and Kitty. Unfortunately, she had recently become very sick and had to lie in bed all day long. When Kitty was away at school, the house was incredibly cold and cheerless. She missed her little angel — that is what she called Kitty. Kitty took great care of her mother. She cooked her food, mostly soup. They could not afford fresh fruit. Kitty would even sing to her mother at night.
When Kitty reached the school that day, her thoughts were full of her sick mother and the lovely red apples. She was usually an excellent student, but that day she made so many mistakes that the teacher looked at her in surprise. The little girl could only sit at her desk, with her book before her, and dream of those red apples.
When school was dismissed, Kitty started slowly homeward. She had walked only a short distance when she saw a man in front of her drop his wallet. Running quickly forward, she picked it up. The wallet felt quite heavy in Kitty’s little hand.
“There must be a good deal of money in it,” thought Kitty. “How I wish I could keep it, so that I would then be able to purchase a red apple for Mamma, and so many other things she needs.”

Passage 2
(24-25学年高二下·福建永春二中·期中)
Even before I reached the tent, I knew there would be trouble. My little brother Andy was following me, with a sleeping bag, a flashlight, and his stuffed bear. My friends Wade and Bred think Andy would ruin everything. He would get scared in the middle of the night and have to be taken back to the house. They complained so much you'd think they were hospital patients instead of kids I'd invited for an outdoor sleepover.
Andy promised that he wouldn't ruin anything. He wormed his way into the tent and settled in the far corner. Night was settling in, too, with the woods around us fading toward black. The house, with its porch light, seemed a long way from us.
“Time for ghost stories!” Brad announced as soon as I'd closed the tent. He told a story about vampires (吸血鬼), but it only made us fall over laughing. When it was Wade's turn, he told a story of three guys who were camping in a tent. He described our situation exactly-except for Andy. When he was describing a terrifying creature, somewhere outside, a branch snapped (发出咔嚓声)。The hairs on my arms shot straight up. “These guys were crawling into their sleeping bags, right?” Wade continued. “When out of the darkness rang this terrible cry.” And out of the woods behind us there was a cry! High-pitched, frightening, and strange. The hairs on my head shot straight up!
“What was that?” Bred asked as the cry came again. We all looked at each other in horror, speechless. Wade suggested someone should go out to check, but no one dared. “What if it's something trapped or hurt?” Andy said anxiously. We focused our flashlights on Andy, whom we'd forgotten, sitting in the corner with his arms around his bear. Andy would adopt every lost or hurt animal in the world if Mom would let him.

Passage 3
(24-25学年高二下·福建三明一中·期中)
“No, little girl. You can’t get in without the money.” Jeffrey, the bus driver, told a little girl who wanted to get on the bus but only had a few pennies. She must have been around seven years old, and he wasn’t in the mood to deal with unaccompanied children that day.
“Please, sir. I want to visit my grandmother,” the little girl begged. “Then go ask your parents for the money and come back next time,” Jeffrey replied and gestured with his hand for the girl to get out. She finally left the bus with her shoulders lowered. Jeffrey saw her sit down at the bus stop and drove off.
He finished his route and went home for the lunch, greeting his wife, Greta, and sitting down on the couch to rest. When he browsed his Facebook posts, an image caught his attention. A picture was shared of the little girl he had just turned away a few hours earlier. The word “Missing” was written on top of the image. He learned that the girl had disappeared a day ago, and her parents were desperately trying to find her.
“Dear! What have I done?” he asked himself, standing up and going to the front door. When Greta asked where he was going, Jeffrey said, “Greta! Quick! Call 911 and this number,” showing her the picture of the girl. “I saw this girl at a bus stop earlier, and I turned her away because she didn’t have enough money. I’m going to find her, but please make those calls.” Having told her where the bus stop was, he went out.
Jeffrey rushed to his car, speeding to the bus stop. Hopefully, the girl was smart enough to stay in one place. He couldn’t believe how careless he had been earlier. She was a little girl all alone. As he drove to the bus stop, Jeffrey vowed to be more careful in the future, especially when it came to children.

Passage 4
(24-25学年高二下·福建厦门十中·期中)
Leo and his friends all lived on the same street. They’d meet on the sidewalk daily and walk towards the park, where they’d spend the afternoon playing basketball.
During one winter, Leo noticed that of all the houses on the block, there was one with a messy, dirty yard that looked unattended. Leo had always been a tidy person, so passing by the house always made him uncomfortable.
One day, after all the snow had melted and the trees were starting to bloom just in time for spring, Leo couldn’t help but stare at his neighbor’s messy yard a little longer. The melted snow showed all the buried leaves, twigs from fall, and other trash.
“You guys go ahead,” Leo told his friends while walking to the park. “I really can’t stand seeing this yard dirty,” he said. Hearing this, his friends laughed at him. “Are you going to skip basketball to clean a yard that isn’t even yours?” one of them asked. “I can’t take it anymore; this yard is so dirty that it ruins the appearance of our neighborhood. I’ll catch up with you all later,” Leo insisted.
When Leo’s friends left, Leo quickly got to work. He went back home and filled his wagon (小推车) with the tools he needed. It took Leo the entire afternoon to clear the yard. He scraped the melting snow out of the pathway and swept the leaves from the ground. He also trimmed (修剪) the bushes and left them as neat as he could.
When he finished, Leo hesitated to ring the doorbell and inform his neighbor that he had cleaned the yard. However, he realized that he hadn’t seen his neighbor in ages and didn’t want to intrude (打扰). After all, he knew that an old lady in a wheelchair lived there alone, with a caregiver visiting her every other day.

Passage 1
(24-25学年高二下·福建锦江中学·期中)
Mom’s Decision to Spend More Time with Son
One sunny afternoon, young Timmy sat on the front steps of their cozy house, his chin (下巴) resting on his hands, eyes fixed on the street. His friends were playing in the park across the road, their laughter filling the air, but Timmy didn’t join them. He was waiting for his mom to come home.
Timmy’s mom, Mrs. Thompson, was a hard-working real estate agent (房地产经纪人). She was constantly on the go, showing houses to clients, attending meetings, and working late into the night. Most days, Timmy only saw her in the early morning rush before school or briefly in the evening when she was too tired to do much more than give him a quick hug.
That day, when Mrs. Thompson finally pulled up in her car, she noticed Timmy’s sad expression. As she got out of the car, Timmy ran up to her, his eyes lighting up for a moment. “Mom, can we play a game today? Like we used to?” he asked hopefully. Mrs. Thompson looked at her watch and sighed. “Not today, honey. I have so much work to do. Maybe tomorrow.” Timmy’s shoulders slumped, and he quietly walked back to the steps.
That evening, as Mrs. Thompson sat at her desk, going through piles of paperwork, she couldn’t get Timmy’s disappointed face out of her mind. She realized that she had been so focused on her career that she was missing out on her son’s childhood. After much thought, she made a decision. She would take some time off work to be with Timmy.
The next morning, Mrs. Thompson called her boss and explained the situation. To her relief, her boss was understanding and gave her a week off. She then went to Timmy’s room with a big smile on her face.

Passage 2
(24-25学年高二下·福建三明双十中学·期中)
Pumpkin (南瓜) carving at Halloween is a family tradition. We visit a local farm every October. In the pumpkin field, I compete with my three brothers and sister to seek out the biggest pumpkin. My dad has a rule that we have to carry our pumpkins back home, and as the eldest child I have an advantage — I carried an 85-pounder (85磅重的南瓜) back last year.
This year, it was hard to tell whether my prize or the one chosen by my 14-year-old brother, Jason, was the winner. Unfortunately we forgot to weigh them before taking out their insides, but I was determined to prove my point. All of us were hard at work at the kitchen table, with my mom filming the annual event. I’m unsure now why I thought forcing my head inside the pumpkin would settle the matter, but it seemed to make perfect sense at the time.
With the pumpkin resting on the table, hole uppermost (向上), I bent over and pressed my head against the opening. At first I got jammed (塞住) just above my eyes and then, as I went on with my task, unwilling to quit, my nose briefly prevented entry. Finally I managed to put my whole head into it, like a cork (软木塞) forced into a bottle. I was able to straighten up with the huge pumpkin resting on my shoulders.
My excitement was short-lived. The pumpkin was heavy. “I’m going to set it down, now,” I said, and with Jason helping to support its weight, I bent back over the table to give it somewhere to rest. It was only when I tried to remove my head that I realized getting out was going to be less straightforward than getting in. When I pulled hard, my nose got in the way. I got into a panic as I pressed firmly against the table and moved my head around trying to find the right angle, but it was no use. “I can’t get it out!” I shouted, my voice sounding unnaturally loud in the enclosed (封闭的) space.

Passage 3
(24-25学年高二下·福建永春一中·期中)
Like many other teenagers, I suffered from growing pains. As I entered the last year of my high school, I had enough of my parents’ complaints about my academic performances. It seemed that the grades overshadowed all my positive qualities. Therefore, I lost my temper and argued with them every now and then, only to feel more upset.
One day, in a history class, I saw birds flying and singing outside the window, and my mind began to wander like a cloud. “If I were a bird, I would have nothing to worry about,” I thought to myself. It suddenly dawned on me that the world outside was waiting to be explored. Without hesitation, after class, I left a note on the desk that read, “The world is so big that I want to have a look.”
Making sure that I carried adequate change, I boarded the bus. Freeing myself from the thick books, I even found breathing was an enjoyment. The bus was bound for rural areas, where peaceful landscapes would definitely heal my growing pains. Soon, I reached the terminal station. The beautiful countryside surrounded with a winding lake and humble cottages was a perfect getaway. Walking alongside the lake gave me a sense of inner peace, allowing me to temporarily forget the upcoming examinations.
However, the relaxation was only temporary. With the night approaching, I began to fear the darkness. I could hardly see my hands in front of me and rushed to the bus stop in panic. Unfortunately, I missed the last bus. The light of a cottage caught my attention, and I saw it as a chance to seek help.

Passage 1
(24-25学年高二下·福建莆田十五中·期中)
“Who would like to show your project first?” My science teacher Mrs. Williams asked. I lowered my head. “Please don’t call on me”, I prayed silently. “Ava, Come up front,” Mrs. Williams announced. Ava happily skipped to the front. She demonstrated how to make electricity using potatoes and it was impressive. Next was my friend Jaycee. His cheeks turned red as he spoke. He showed us a rainbow experiment, which fascinated everyone.
“Michael, please present your project,” said Mrs. Williams. My heart raced as I walked to the front and placed my birdhouse on the table. “This is how to build a birdhouse,” I began nervously. “Look at your audience, Michael,” Mrs. Williams reminded me gently. I swallowed the baseball-sized lump (肿块) in my throat and started again.
“I searched online how to build a birdhouse. My dad drove me to the lumberyard (木料场), where someone cut four pieces using the measurements I gave for the walls, and then helped me drill the entrance hole.”
Luka, who always asked endless questions, raised his hand. “If others did most of the work, what exactly did you do?”
I swallowed. The lump in my throat was now the size of a basketball. “I came up with the idea and designed a removable roof for cleaning, “I lifted the roof to show everyone.” Then I nailed (钉牢) all the walls together. “I had left one of the nails sticking out a little on purpose so that I could nail it on the spot. I picked up the hammer (锤子) and gave the nail a mighty hit. There was a deep breath, and then nobody spoke. The clock above the classroom door ticked like something out of an adventure movie. Unexpectedly, the birdhouse broke and collapsed.
“I wanted to show you how to build a birdhouse—AND how to take it apart,” I said, thinking fast.
I was sure there was sweat streaming down my face.

Passage 2
(24-25学年高二下·福建泉州七中·期中)
The boys in the block were going to have a roller-skating (滑旱冰) race next Saturday. They were divided into two teams: the Sunnysiders and the Shadysiders, with five boys on each team. Andy was on the Sunnysiders. They lost last year, so they were desperate to win this time. But Andy knew his short legs made it hard for him to skate fast.
One day, Andy was greeted by a pleasant “Hello” as he was putting on his roller-skates. He looked up and saw his new neighbor, Francis. “Hello! ” he replied cheerfully, noticing his neighbor’s long legs. “Wanna skate with me? Look at your long legs! Just the right kind to make you a good skater.” “I’d love to. You know, I’m really good at roller skating and I used to help my team win.” Francis said, his tone now heavy with sadness. “But I lost my roller skates and my mom just cannot afford to buy me another pair.”
Andy thought it was a shame for Francis. As a new comer, there were undoubtedly many moments when he must have felt lonely. Andy thought to himself, wondering what he could do for Francis. But he had to say goodbye in a hurry since the team were meeting in the open space on the corner to talk over some plans.
When talking to the team captain, Andy suggested adding another boy to their team, Francis. But the captain said “No” as the team knew nothing about him. Besides, the Shadysiders wouldn’t let them take on an extra player.
In the following days, Andy practiced very hard with his team. Then came the day before the race when he saw Francis on the sidewalk, watching them skate past, his eyes filled with a sense of loss. Somehow it upset Andy, and his desire to help his new neighbor resurfaced. Then he thought of a way that could not only help his team win, but help Francis fit in.

Passage 3
(24-25学年高二下·福建厦门六中·期中)
The sound of the front door closing with a soft click echoed (回响) through the silent house. Emily stood in the hallway, her backpack hung over one shoulder, her eyes downcast. She had just returned from a meeting with her art teacher, who had praised her work and encouraged her to consider a career in art. Excitement arose within her, but she knew what awaited her at home would be far from enthusiastic support. The living room, with its neatly arranged old furniture and family pictures on the walls, showing an atmosphere of tradition and order. It was a contrast to the colorful chaos that Emily’s art studio had become, where canvases (画布) in various stages of completion leaned against the walls and paintbrushes lay on the table. The thought of sharing her dreams with her parents filled her with a mix of anticipation and fear, as she knew their expectations for her future were firmly rooted in more conventional paths.
It was a freezing evening when Emily arrived home, her shoulders dropped and her eyes red from crying. She had just had a huge argument with her parents over her
decision to pursue art instead of medicine. They didn’t understand her passion and saw it as a waste of time. Emily stormed into her room, keeping the door shut.
The following days passed in silence. Emily barely spoke to her parents, eating her meals in her room and avoiding any eye contact. Her mother, noticing the tension, felt a knot (纠结) in her stomach.
One day, Emily decided to focus on her art. She began to work on a new painting. It was a landscape, inspired by a place she had visited with her grandparents when she was younger. She recalled the vivid colors of the sunset and the way the trees waved gently in the wind. As she worked, Emily lost herself in the creativity. She mixed the colors carefully, applying them to the canvas with brushstrokes. The painting was a way for her to express her emotions and her love for nature.

Passage 1
(24-25学年高二下·福建福州联盟校·期中)
I was working the night shift at the hospital on Thanksgiving. The waiting room stood empty except for an old clock ticking on the wall and a silent TV in the corner. Cold rain beat against the windows as I restocked bandages. Suddenly, the door opened, and an old man entered, holding a small boy. Both were wet from the storm, their shoes leaving watery footprints on the floor.
The boy’s grandfather said he had a fever, but the child’s skin felt cool. After a quick check, I found no signs of illness. My eyes fell on their worn clothes — the boy’s socks didn’t match, and the old man’s coat had holes. My coworker silently handed me a note: No electricity at their home for seven days. I understood their real trouble.
In the waiting area, the boy stared at the TV showing a Thanksgiving feast. His grandfather offered him a piece of dry bread. Without speaking, I brought two cups of hot milk from the kitchen and found thick blankets in the storage room. The old man tried to refuse, but I explained it was hospital policy to help on holidays.
I led them to a quiet room with a heater. While the boy changed into clean hospital clothes, I made a bed using spare blankets. The old man thanked me quietly, his voice shaking. Later, I contacted a local charity group, who promised to help restore their electricity the next morning.
After I doing this, I noticed the boy seemed a bit restless and out of place. I remembered how scary hospitals could be for children, so I took some crayons and paper from the storage room. I handed them to the boy, hoping it would help him feel more at ease. He took them with a shy smile and began to draw. Seeing him occupied and content made me feel a little warmer inside.

Passage 2
(24-25学年高二下·福建莆田一中·期中)
It was one of those freezing nights we got here in Minnesota in the middle of winter. The dampness in the air got trapped and a curtain of fog sank all around, mixing with the snow on the ground and the strong snow falling from the sky to white out everything. Normally I wouldn’t drive in that kind of weather, but I’d been at a Tupperware party all evening, and I was so exhausted. The desire to be in the comfort of my own home beat my better judgment. However never had I imagined my little act could save my life on such a night.
I was only on the road for a minute before I regretted my decision not to stay put. The winding country road was totally deserted. My car’s headlights could barely cut through the heavy fog. The snow was getting heavier. A lot heavier. Everything beyond a few feet in front of me was a mystery. I drove slowly. I wasn’t quite sure where I was, though I knew there were railways specifically built for freight (货运) trains in this area. But in such weather, it was impossible to spot the tracks or any signs of an approaching train.
Trembling with cold, I turned up the heat. The loud blowers did their work, sheltering me from the bitter cold and the sound outside. Seemingly, everything went smoothly as I inched forward.
All at once, my headlights shone on a small animal in front of me, right at the farthest point they could reach. I hit the brakes-tires screeched (发嘎吱声) against the snow as the car was coming to a stop. When the world stopped spinning, taking a closer look, I found it was a brown rabbit, its fur covered with ice crystals in the headlights. I tapped the horn, no response. I tried again, yet the little creature remained rooted-it appeared unwilling to get out of the way. Curiously, I got out of the car and made my way toward it.

Passage 3
(24-25学年高二下·福建泉州科技中学·期中)
Harry Caine retired from a local power company. After his retirement, he just wanted to do something for his community. One day, he spotted many abandoned bikes, which were gathering dust in the neighbouring garages. “Why not fix them up and give them to those needy?” he thought. So he posted to an online group in his Alaska Homer, offering to fix people’s bikes for free.
Soon some neighbors began to donate their abandoned bikes after their kids had outgrown them or adults had upgraded to new models. Then, in Harry’s tidy little garage, he set about working. Its inner walls lined with tools, the garage held a workbench and repair stand. Classic rock music often drifted from its open doors, a sign that Harry was working hard. After Harry’s highly skilled repairs, the donated bikes took on new looks and functioned very well.
One Saturday, Harry transported the first batch of six repaired bikes to a nearby food bank, a place that gave food to the poor. He camped out with his Free Bikes sign and waited to see whether the bikes were needed. Five minutes later, a little boy wearing worn-out clothes came up to Harry with a doubtful look, his eyes glued to a blue bike, “Is it really free?” the boy asked. “Yes. If you like it, it’s yours.” Harry answered joyfully. The boy beamed a broad smile. He briskly walked towards the blue bicycle. Then he touched its handle, pressed its bell, and explained how he had dreamed of owning one bicycle. Grinning with delight, Harry watched him pedal away and disappear in the distance. The following 30 minutes saw the remaining bikes ridden away, which gave him a sense of satisfaction.
As word of Harry’s project spread, neighbors admirably called him Uncle Harry, and they kept him busy with a steady supply of bikes, helmets and even locks. However, with more abandoned bikes flooding in, Harry had his hands full and the repairing work was more than he could deal with.

【答案】范文
Nearing the doorway, Jenny took a deep breath. When she pushed the door open and entered the house, she found her mother was not in. Tired and sad, she sunk down into the sofa. “Where could my mother be?” she wondered. “Was she still angry with me?” Again, the scene of the quarrel appeared in her mind. She remembered her rudeness to her mother. Realizing that all the scolding from her mother was due to the fact that her mother really cared a lot about her, she felt rather ashamed, tears rolling down her cheeks.
At that time, her mother came back and touched her hair gently, which called her mind back. She raised her head and saw the familiar face of her mother. “Here you come! I’ve been looking for you,” she said, fatigued but relieved. Jenny couldn’t help throwing herself into her mother’ arms. “Mum, I’m so sorry and thank you for all you have done for me.” she expressed her sincere apology and great gratitude. Hearing this, her mother smiled, patting her back gently. It dawned on Jenny that Mum’s love was invisible and intangible, but always surrounded us.

【答案】Realizing why I failed, my parents started to dislike that I had a phone. They said they had noticed that I never paid attention to them. It was like I had my own little world. So they thought we didn’t communicate as much with my phone. They regretted having given me a phone, which made me ignore the family and study. Then I started to wonder if I was wrong. A week later I tried going a whole day without a phone and it didn’t go that badly. I had so much fun because I was actually spending time with my family and paying attention to them.
From that day, I had a different opinion towards phones. Phones really take you away from the rest of the world. I am not saying that phones are bad and not to use them, but you do have to spare some time to spend with your family and not get stuck with your phone all day.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Paragraph 1:
I was enjoying the photos when one caught my eye. It was a picture of the pumpkin we had carved together. Underneath, Brian had written, “My first real win with my brother. Even if we didn’t get first, it was a victory because we worked as a team.” Seeing those words, a wave of guilt washed over me. I remembered how I had selfishly taken all the money and lied to him. I realized how much I had let him down. I turned to Brian, ready to confess everything.
Paragraph 2:
“You actually knew and didn’t say anything?” I was shocked. Brian just smiled gently and said, “I always knew. But I also knew that you needed that game more than the money at that time. And I was proud of our teamwork, not the prize. I hoped one day you’d understand the real meaning of winning together.” His words made me feel even more ashamed. I apologized sincerely, vowing to make it up to him. From then on, I truly understood my role as his guardian angel and the importance of true brotherhood.

【答案】参考范文
Hearing that, Ethan hugged his son tightly without a word, only pale moonlight spilling through the window. His hands trembled against the boy’s small back, tears streaming silently into the child’s hair. The overturned noodles, the dirty quilt—every detail now tore his heart like the messy noodles. “Forgive me, ” he choked out in a regretful voice. The child curled into his chest and murmured softly, “I just wanted you to eat warm food, Daddy. ” Ethan held his son’s face, wiped away his tears, and then pressed his forehead to the child’s.
The next morning, Ethan got up early and walked into the kitchen quietly. As he was preparing pancakes for breakfast, his son stepped into the kitchen. Hearing the small footsteps, he turned and smiled. “Let’s cook together! ” he said, handing his sleepy son a spoon. The boy’s eyes lit up, grinning with a wide mouth, and joined his Daddy excitedly in no time. “Look, Daddy! It’s a perfect pancake! ” the child exclaimed, pointing at the messy pancake he made. Ethan laughed, ruffling his hair. “Yes, teamwork makes perfect, just like ours. ” Ethan felt peace settled in his heart, a flicker of hope. He promised himself to face changes and challenges alongside his son.

【答案】
During their practice, the group was amazed by Li Ming’s Chinese kung fu. His fluid movements combining strength and grace drew gasps of admiration. When he demonstrated a dragon-style sequence, the British students clapped enthusiastically. Sensing their genuine interest, Li Ming offered to teach basic stances. In return, they taught him popular dance steps, blending Eastern and Western elements into their performance. Gradually, Li Ming found himself laughing naturally during rehearsals. The cultural exchange dissolved his anxiety, replacing it with collaborative joy. By performance day, their routine had transformed into a vibrant fusion of martial arts and modern dance.
After the show, Li Ming noticed some changes happening. Classmates greeted him warmly in corridors, asking about kung fu philosophies. In literature class, group members actively sought his interpretations, patiently listening to his accented English. At lunch breaks, students invited him to join conversations about cultural differences. The once-daunting school parties became opportunities to share Chinese pop songs. Most importantly, Li Ming stopped overthinking every interaction. He realized communication wasn’t about perfection, but sincere effort. Slowly, his initial adventure transformed into meaningful connections built on mutual curiosity and respect.

I was informed that I won the first prize in the writing contest and that there would be an award presentation in two days. I was so happy to hear the news that I immediately shared it with my teacher. “I knew you’d win! I am proud of you. You made it!” he said excitedly. Then came the big day. When I was invited to the stage to receive the award, I expressed my thanks to my teacher. I said, “It’s you who make me fall in love with writing, my social studies teacher. Without your recognition and guidance, I couldn’t have written this article. Again thank you very much!”
I went to my teacher’s office after the award presentation. My teacher was waiting for me. Holding my hands, he said “Congratulations! You are a good writer, so keep writing.” “You know I didn’t like writing before, but now I am crazy about it! I will try my best to create good works.” I said seriously. Since then, I have written many good works and now I am a famous writer. I owe my success to my social teacher who is a beacon in my life on the road to writing.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
As time went by, Alex’s skills improved. He was happy that his fingers were flexible even if not so good as before. He began to have some confidence again. Now he expected to participate in local piano competitions, facing tough competitors. Despite multiple losses in the early competitions, Alex didn’t give up. With the teacher’s continuous encouragement and help, he analyzed his performances, learned from his mistakes, and kept improving his skills. He began to explore composition, pouring his emotions into melodies. Finally, his hard work paid off.
In a regional competition, Alex presented an outstanding performance for the first time. It was so outstanding that it made him win the first place. Nobody would believe this success should come from a person who suffered severe hurt in his right hand. All of the audience was absorbed in his music, and tears of joy streamed down his face as he took the stage to receive the award. This was just the beginning. Alex’s fame gradually spread, and he was invited to perform in more significant concerts. Without his teacher’s encouragement, he wouldn’t have transformed his pain into a new path to success.

【答案】With Mrs White’s encouragement, Mike started to have some small changes. In the classroom, he began to interact with his classmates more frequently. During breaks, instead of sitting alone in the corner, he joined their games and laughter, sharing jokes and stories. After school, he practiced speaking in front of the mirror, repeating words until they flowed more smoothly, and even recorded himself to track progress. Gradually, his stutter lessened as he grew more engaged. Mrs. White, noticing his progress, helped him prepare for the upcoming speech contest by practicing his speech together and offering constructive feedback.
Finally, the moment came and it was Mike’s turn. As he walked to the front, his heart pounded. Suddenly, Mrs. White’s encouraging words echoed in his ears, making him gather his courage and begin his speech calmly. Clearly and steadily, he delivered his message despite a few stutters. As his speech ended, Mrs White and his classmates gave him thumbs-up and said “You did a good gob! ” With watery eyes, Mike smiled, feeling a sense of pride and accomplishment wash over him. He realized that everyone could overcome himself with hard work and support.

【答案】 Kitty knew this would not be right, so she hurried after the man. Touching him on the arm, she said, “Please, Sir. You dropped your wallet.” “Thank you, dear,” said the gentleman, taking the wallet. Then, noticing how poorly dressed she was, he said, “Why didn’t you keep the wallet, my child?” “Because that would be stealing,” replied Kitty. “But,” she continued honestly, “before I thought I must give it back to you, I did wish I could keep it, for then I could buy Mamma a red apple.” Hearing this, the man handed her a dollar and said,” You are a good girl. Take the dollar so that you can buy your mother a red apple.” Then, the man said goodbye to Kitty and left. With the dollar, Kitty happily ran to the store.
The store owner saw the familiar girl rushing in, one dollar in hand. He quickly picked out the biggest, roundest, and reddest apple and gave it to Kitty. Taking the apple, kitty was very happy and handed the dollar to the owner. But the owner didn’t take it, saying, “You keep it and the apple is free.” Kitty was so pleased and thanked the kind store owner. Then, she went back home. Her mother was surprised to see the apple and the dollar. Kitty told her mother the whole story. Her mother kissed her and said, “You see, dear, it always pays to be honest and truthful.”

【答案】“I’m going to see.” Andy ran out of the tent and disappeared in the darkness. Although filled with fear, I ran after him without hesitation. He was my little brother after all. Andy was headed into the woods, his flashlight beam wobbling along the trail. Finally I saw him, a few yards ahead, with his flashlight aimed at the upper branches of a large tree. I raised my own light to shine on the same spot. A pair of shining eyes seemed to float in the darkness. My heart pounded harder.
Andy said it was a baby monkey caught between branches, and it was crying for its mama. I knew he was right. I had to admit that Andy was impressive. We helped the little monkey out carefully. Having ensured that the little monkey was in good condition, we let it go. When we walked down back, I could see the guys gathered before the tent. “Are you all right?” They asked. “We’re fine.” I answered with a broad smile, knowing that the guys’ opinion of Andy would change, too.

【答案】 Finally, he saw a tiny figure sitting on the bench at the spot. Jeffery felt relieved and delighted to see the girl staying safe and sound. Trying to calm himself, Jeffery decided to talk to her gently. He inquired about her name and why she had left home. “I was going to Grandma’s house. My mom wouldn’t let me go.” Sarah replied, swinging one of her feet and looking at the concrete floor. “Your parents are searching for you, and they’ll be here soon,” he assured her, and the little girl gave him a small smile.
A few minutes later, the police and another car approached them. A woman got out of the vehicle and rushed toward Sarah. The little girl got up and ran to her, yelling, “Mommy!” The police officers approached Jeffrey and he told them the entire story and how he regretted not letting her on the bus, so he came to find her. Sarah’s parents thanked him for what he had done. From then on, Jeffrey helped anyone short on cash who got on his bus, and he always watched out for the kids that were alone because they needed someone like him to do the right job.

【答案】The next morning, the old woman, Abigail, opened her door with delight. She was amazed to see her yard looking so clean and tidy. For a moment, she stood there in disbelief, eyes wide open. Then, she noticed a note Leo had left, explaining his actions. Touched by Leo’s kindness, Abigail decided to show her gratitude. She called her neighbors and told them what Leo had done. They were all impressed and proposed a special surprise for him.
When Abigail and her neighbors arrived at Leo’s house, Leo was still asleep. They quietly set up a small party in his front yard. There were colorful balloons, a big banner that read “Thank You, Leo!”, and a table filled with delicious treats. As the sun peeked through the curtains, Leo woke up to the sound of laughter and chatter. Rubbing his eyes, he walked outside and was completely stunned. Abigail rolled forward in her wheelchair, a big smile on her face, and thanked him sincerely. The neighbors clapped and cheered. Leo blushed, realizing that a simple act of kindness could bring so much warmth and connection to the community.

【答案】 She said, “Timmy, I’m going to take a whole week off work, just for us!” Timmy’s eyes widened in surprise and excitement. He jumped out of bed and hugged his mom tightly. “Really, Mom? That’s amazing!” They spent the morning planning all the things they would do together. They decided to go to the zoo first. As they drove to the zoo, Timmy chatted non-stop, his face glowing with happiness. Upon arrival, they rushed towards the panda enclosure, where they watched in awe as the cute pandas munched on bamboo. Timmy laughed out loud when one panda rolled over like a clumsy ball. Mrs. Thompson photographed these precious moments, feeling a sense of contentment she hadn’t experienced in a long time.
However, just as they were playing, Mrs. Thompson’s phone rang. It was one of her most important clients. The client had an urgent question about a house they were interested in buying. Mrs. Thompson hesitated for a moment. Looking at Timmy’s excited face, she made a choice. She silenced her phone and put it back in her bag. She turned to Timmy and said, “Nothing is more important than this time with you, Timmy.” They spent the rest of the day at the zoo, exploring every corner, and even had a picnic lunch on the grass. By the end of the day, both Timmy and Mrs. Thompson were tired but filled with joy.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 It was five or six minutes though it felt much longer. Dad was summoned-less, it seemed, in expectation of practical help than to make sure he didn’t miss out on the spectacle. I heard him propose calling the fire department. “Stay tuned,” said Mom; she’d mentioned she was going to upload the video to Facebook, but it was only then that I realized she’d been filming the whole time. The video cuts before my rescue — Dad got me to push my head farther into the pumpkin so Mom could reach in and undo the rubber band round my ponytail. I emerged with squash-conditioned hair, a sore chin and my nose plugged with pulp.
The video was posted the Monday before Halloween. By the end of that day, it had over 1, 000 views. People asked Mom to put it on Youtube, and by Wednesday morning we were getting 5: 00 am call from TV breakfast shows and then the international media-the video started racking up hundreds of thousands of views. When I went on a youth camp, I was recognized by children I’d never met. The pumpkin also became a minor celebrity. Passersby and trick-or-treaters would knock and ask, “Which is Rachel’s pumpkin?” before taking selfies with it.

【答案】
Upon hearing me knocking at the door, the owner let me in. He took the initiative to ask what happened. “I’m Carl, a senior high school student. I just lost my way here,” I responded. Afterwards, he unwrapped a piece of bread for me, who must have sensed that I was starving. “So why do you visit a remote place?” he continued. I struggled with two inner voices, one urging me to tell him, while the other stopping me from telling the truth. Unable to resist my desire to grumble, I admitted it was the pressure from my parents that I could barely tolerate.
After figuring out the details, he decided to drive me home. I stood still, unwilling to board the car. “I’m sure your parents give a priority to your safety rather than your marks. Follow me,” he said. After taking my seat in the car, it occurred to me that this event may ruin the relationship between my parents and me. Catching sight of my worry, he pointed out communication was the best solution. I nodded slightly and extended my thanks to him. “Maybe it’s high time that I should have a chat with my parents,” I thought to myself.

【答案】 The class burst out laughing and then started clapping—For me! I felt my face burning, but then I noticed something surprising — the kids weren’t laughing at me. Jayce gave me an encouraging thumbs-up, and even Luka seemed impressed by my quick fix. Mrs. Williams’ eyes sparkled. “Michael, that was really an unexpected incident! You handled it in a very creative way,” she praised. Gathering courage, I said, jokingly, “Thanks, I guess now you all know what happens when you don’t hammer properly!” The class broke into laughter once more. “Actually, this proves why we need to use the right size nails,” I continued, pointing to the split wood. “And maybe I should have practiced hammering first.” The class chuckled again.
After class, I decided to rebuild the birdhouse and present it again. I spent hours checking measurements, sanding wood edges, and practicing my hammering. A week later, I stood before the class with my new, stabler birdhouse. “Last time, I showed you what not to do,” I started, grinning. “Now, here’s the right way!” I demonstrated each step confidently, my hands steady and my voice clear. When I finished, the class erupted into enthusiastic applause. “Now that’s what I call learning from mistakes,” Mrs. Williams nodded approvingly and suggested I sign up for the district Science Fair. I beamed with pride. My “failure” became my greatest opportunity.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】He rushed to Francis, excited to tell him his plan. “Francis, you can use my skates in the race tomorrow! ” Andy yelled, eyes shining with hope. Francis hesitated. Noticing that, Andy explained that having him on their team would not only boost their chances of winning but also help him make more friends. Eventually, Francis put on the roller-skates and skated around, his talent instantly impressing the captain who was nearby. Struck by Francis’ excellent skills, the captain agreed to include the new boy. At that moment, Andy felt a touch of emptiness for giving up his own chance, but a surge of excitement for the plan as well.
The next day, the race began as scheduled. Francis, wearing Andy’s skates, stood at the starting line, looking determined, while Andy, from the sidelines, felt a mix of anticipation and nervousness. The race was intense, but Francis’ excellent skating skills helped the Sunnysiders finally win the race. Once the race was finished, Francis, now part of the team, skated over to Andy with the others. Together, they lifted Andy onto their shoulders, celebrating not just the victory but also the newfound friendships. Cheers filled the air, and Andy experienced a swell of pride and a profound sense of accomplishment for the success of his friend and the team.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Observing her from a distance, her parents began to understand her passion. This was not just a hobby, but a true calling. They started to reflect on their own views of art. Her father recalled how, as a child, he had been drawn to the vivid paintings. Her mother, on the other hand, had always seen art as something difficult. But as they watched Emily work, they felt a growing sense of pride and an urge to communicate.
One night, her parents knocked gently on the door of Emily’s room. Unwillingly, Emily opened the door. Her father said sincerely, “I saw your drawings, and I’ve come to understand your dreams.” Emily’s eyes widened in surprise. Emily’s mother expressed her concerns about the uncertainty of an art career. Emily said, with tears in her eyes, “I understand, but art is not just a hobby for me. It’s what makes me feel alive.” Her mother held her hand, saying, “We see how passionate you are, honey. We have decided to support your dreams. ”Emily embraced her parents, feeling a great sense of gratitude and love.

After daybreak, Grandpa folded the blanket carefully.

After they left, I found a child’s drawing on my desk.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
After daybreak, Grandpa folded the blanket carefully. I told them that the community’s electronic had been restored, and that the charity had begun to pay attention to their situation. Plus, I gave them extra gloves and a warm sweater donated by a staff member. The old man wept and thanked, while the boy smiled and flapped his gloved hands like a bird’s wings. They left, and the two walked to the bus stop, where they huddled under an old umbrella, but the boy’s laughter rang clearly through the rain.
After they left, I found a child’s drawing on my desk. It showed a smiling nurse holding a blanket, circled by several hearts. The drawing was simple, but it spoke volumes. It was a thank-you note. It was a small sign of gratitude from a child who had nothing but still found a way to express his appreciation. I placed it in a frame and set it beside my computer. The drawing reminded me that sometimes, the smallest gestures can make the biggest difference.

Just as I was freeing the rabbit from the trap, a train whooshed(呼啸)by.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
Getting near, I found its leg stuck in a trap. Its eyes locked onto mine—wide and desperate, and its nose twitched in panic, as if begging for help. Despite the freezing wind biting through my coat, I knelt down. “Hold on,” I whispered, trying to loosen the trap with numb fingers. The little creature stopped struggling, staring at me with a mix of fear and hope. My gloves were already wet, but I ignored. I determined to save this little life, forgetting about everything around.
Just as I was freeing the rabbit from the trap, a train whooshed (呼啸) by. The fog swirled, and the train’s dark shape with faint light was briefly visible before disappearing into the heavy fog, leaving only the steam behind. In that split second, I realized: had I not stopped for the rabbit, my car would have been on those hidden tracks. My heart pounded violently. After pulling myself together, I finally loosened the trap and the rabbit hopped away. This encounter became a constant reminder that in a world with uncertainties, kindness has its own reward.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
Knowing Harry’s situation, a group of volunteers came to help him. They came from all walks of life—students, retirees and even some stay-at-home parents, each eager to lend a hand. They selflessly devoted their time, skills, and knowledge to tackling piles of the donated bikes. Together, they sorted the bikes by size and condition before the repairs. Harry’s garage came alive with energy, filled with laughter and lively conversations as the volunteers worked side by side. With volunteers’ support, Harry was determined to expand the project to more people. And he thought it was necessary to offer each of them a right bike.
To match each bike with its new owner, Harry gathered their specific needs. Along with the volunteers, Harry carefully took into account individual preferences, such as bike styles, colors, and sizes, as well as ages, addresses and occupations. With the valuable information, every bike was perfectly tailored to meet the recipients’ needs. Once the bikes were fully repaired, they delivered each bike in person to the recipient’s home, ensuring it was an ideal fit. The recipients were overjoyed, expressing their heartfelt gratitude for the thoughtful gesture. This personalized approach not only warmed their hearts but also strengthened community bonds, fostering a deeper sense of belonging and connecting.
