B At the age of 16, Li Mei noticed that many elderly people in her village struggled to use smartphones, which made it hard for them to access online services like medical appointments and grocery (杂货) delivery. Determined to help, she started a free digital literacy (读写能力) class for seniors in her community. At first, only a few people joined her class. Some were skeptical (怀疑的) , while others were too shy to ask questions. But Li Mei didn’t give up easily. She created simple, step-by-step guides in Chinese and used real-life examples to teach basic skills like making video calls and ordering food online. Over time, more and more seniors joined her class. Word spread, and soon other villages began to ask for her help. By 2026, Li Mei’s initiative had expanded to 12 villages, with over 300 senior citizens learning digital skills. Her work has not only made life easier for the elderly but also bridged the digital divide between generations. “I used to feel left behind by technology,” said 78-year-old Wang Ayi, “but now I can video call my grandson and order medicine online. Li Mei has changed my life.” Li Mei was recently awarded the “Youth Volunteer of the Year” prize. “I believe that small acts of kindness can create big changes,” she said. “Everyone can make a difference, no matter how young or old they are.” 4. C Our habits define our success. Yet, they seem to be out of our control. Whether you’re talking about breaking bad habits or habit formation, neither is a piece of cake. The psychology behind habit formation is what helps us create new habits and also helps us break bad ones. If you can understand this psychology, you can fully control what you get used to in life. Habits are generally only categorized (分类) as good or bad. Most people don’t look beyond these categories and fail to recognize the true power of habits. Our habits play a vital role in our life. From our daily routine to the rate of success, our habits determine the results for the most part. Unfortunately, we tend to believe that we’re in control of our habits despite it being the other way around. This is why it is very important to know how habits form. The process is called the habit loop (循环). It has three main components that work together for habit formation: the cue (提示), the routine, and the reward. The cue is something that encourages the following behavior. Anything around you that reminds you of the habit or makes you want to put it in action is the cue. It can be an object, a person, a feeling, an event, a smell, or anything at all. Next, there’s the routine. Habits aren’t just one action that’s disconnected from the rest of your actions. What comes before and after the habitual behavior is part of the habit. This is what the routine is. Whenever a cue triggers your habit, you’ll start following the defined routine that your brain has developed. The entire series of actions will always be the same or very similar, every time the habit is unconsciously put into action. The reward is whatever outcome you achieve. For example, if your habit helps you feel emotionally better, that is your reward. This is something that your brain considers to be a positive outcome. Therefore, you unconsciously want to repeat the habit again and again to achieve the satisfaction of the reward. 8. What does the writer say about habits in the first paragraph? A. Habits are easy to control but difficult to get rid of. B. Breaking bad habits is easier than forming good ones. C. Either breaking a bad habit or forming one is not easy. D. Psychologists can help us develop or get rid of habits. 9. Which of the following is a reminder of quitting smoking? A. A cut in tax on cigarettes. B. A ban on smoking in the office. C. A loss on cigarette sales. D. A worker in a tobacco company. 10. What does the underlined word “triggers” in Paragraph 5 mean? A. Breaks down. B. Builds up. C. Depends on. D. Sets off. 11. How does the person behave during the formation of a habit? A. He/She repeats a set of activities alike. B. He/She conducts some independent activities. C. He/She shows a great sense of satisfaction. D. He/She follows what he/she feels emotionally right. D Wearing headphones is very common among young people. Their affection for headphones reflects a desire to avoid boredom, inconveniences, and undesirable social interactions. The saying “headphones in, world out” has gained popularity among young people recently. Unfortunately for the headphone lovers, “world out” is not a great policy for a thoughtful society. The widespread use of headphones in public is detrimental (有害的) to users because it limits intellectual growth and makes potentially meaningful interactions with strangers impossible. Frequent headphone users are missing out on valuable experiences, thus, limiting intellectual growth. Young people wear headphones, thinking they will face fewer social challenges, arguments, or even casual rudeness. Though that sounds like a good idea, we do not grow by avoiding discomfort. In fact, to develop healthily, a teenager has to be faced with challenges or even embarrassments. Just as a saying goes, “Storms make trees take deeper roots.” Wearing headphones when faced with social awkwardness teaches us to be passive, and prevents us from becoming mature intellectually. Headphones can also cause us to miss out on positive interactions with strangers. Writer Jacob Bernstein describes a sweet interaction between a young woman and an older woman on a train that would not have occurred had the young woman remembered her headphones as usual that day. A similar case is discussed in “Throw Away Your Headphones, Boredom Is Good” by Roscrans Baldwin. After giving up headphones, he becomes more attuned (适应) to others during his daily routine. He laughs at ridiculous overheard discussions and even enjoys his morning jog without a soundtrack (电影声带) . Becoming familiar with people outside your chosen group can open your eyes to other walks of life and their unique experiences. Young people think they’re good communicators. However, communication is not measured in Facebook friends. Real communication is the basis of humanity. We need real human interactions in our daily life. This summer, don’t forget to take off your headphones and plug yourself into life. 12. What does the author think of discomfort? A. annoying. B. beneficial. C. unbearable. D. unnecessary. 13. How did the sweet interaction between a young woman and an older woman on a train occur? A. By accident. B. On purpose. C. In time. D. In secret. 14. How is the third paragraph mainly developed? A. By asking questions. B. By offering analyses. C. By making comparisons. D. By providing examples. 15. What does the author imply about young people? A. Most of them are good communicators. B. Friendship can be measured in their Facebook friends. C. Technology contributes to their interactions. D. C. D. They lack the ability of real communication. 【答案】12. B 13. A 14. D 15.
