专题8阅读理解之 回答问题 Passage 1 一、任务型阅读 For most kids, the best thing for their birthday is having a birthday party. But thousands of children never celebrate their birthday. Thanks to Paige Chenault and her Birthday Party Project (项目), that is changing in the U.S.A. Every month, the Birthday Party Project holds birthday parties for the homeless (无家可归的) kids. For some kids, it is the first birthday party they have had. The Birthday Party Project wanted to make every kid feel special. “Everyone is special,” Paige said. So she started the Birthday Party Project in 2012 and the group’s first celebration was at a homeless shelter (避难所) in Texas. Today, the Birthday Party Project holds about 50 monthly parties in cities around the country. About 10,000 kids have celebrated their birthday. Dipson, 8, is one of those kids. He lives in a homeless shelter in Minnesota. At a party in March, he and other kids played games and ate cakes. They also opened gifts. “It was very fun,” he said. The Birthday Party Project has held parties for years. Kids always look forward to (盼望) them. “Many people come to the party,” Paige said. “It brings the whole place together.” There are many ways you can help other kids feel celebrated. Join the Birthday Party Project and visit the homeless shelters. Raise money by holding sales of old clothes and other activities. Give gifts to a homeless shelter. Make birthday cards for kids living in difficult places. Everyone can join in! 1. Who does the Birthday Party Project hold birthday parties for? 2. When did Paige start the project? 3. How many kids have celebrated their birthday with the help of the project? 4. What do you think of the project? 5. If you have a chance (机会) to help the project, what can you do? 【答案】1. For the homeless kids. 2. In 2012. 3. About 10000 kids. 4. It is very fun and meaningful. 5. He thought his life was full of pains and many difficulties so he was always sad. He wondered about the secret of a happy life. So he went to visit an old smart man. He asked how to be happy. The old man told the unhappy young man to put a small bag of salt (盐) into a glass of water and then drink it. “How does it taste?” the old man asked. “Terrible,” answered the young man. The old man smiled and said nothing. Then the old man took the young man to a river without any words. He asked the young man to take another (另一个) small bag of salt and put it into the river. After the young man put the salt into the river, the old man said, “Now drink the water from the river.” The young man did so and the old man asked, “How does it taste?” “Nice!” answered the young man. “Can you taste the salt?” asked the old man. “No”, said the young man. That is why some friendships don’t last very long. To have a friend, you must learn to be one. You must learn to treat your friend the way you want your friend to treat you. There are three rules: be honest, be generous (慷慨的), be understanding. Honesty is where a good friendship starts. If you don’t tell the truth, people usually find out. If a friend finds out that you aren’t honest, you may lose his trust. Generosity (慷慨) means sharing and sharing makes a friendship grow. You don’t have to give your lunch money or your other things. Instead, you have to learn how to share things you enjoy, like your hobbies and your interests. By sharing them you help your friend know you better. These tell your friend what is important to you. Everyone needs understanding and help with a problem. To be a friend, you must listen and understand. When you try to put yourself in your friend’s place, you can understand the problem better. No two friendships are exactly alike, but all true friendships have these three in common. 16. Why don’t some friendships last very long? 17. What rules should we obey to have a good friend? 18. What may happen if a friend finds out that you aren’t honest? 19. How do we help our friends know us better? 20. When can we understand a friend’s problem better? 【答案】16. For the first time in history, people could talk to someone far away just like they were in the same room. But today, phones can do much more than just make calls! The story of mobile phones began with two-way radios. These early devices (设备) had a big problem—they only worked when people were close to each other. In the 1940s, smart scientists found a way. They built tall radio towers across the country to pass signals (信号) easily. Everything changed in 1973 when Dr. Martin Cooper made the first real mobile phone call. During the 1980s, mobile phones became smaller but were still very expensive. Only rich business people could afford them, and the phones looked like big plastic bricks. The 1990s brought another big change. Phones became cheaper and smaller, fitting easily in pockets. Soon, almost everyone had one. Text messaging became popular. People started writing short messages instead of making phone calls. Meeting time became more flexible (灵活的) because you could just text “I’ll be 15 minutes late.” Now we have smartphones—like powerful mini-computers in our pockets. We use them to take photos, watch videos, play games, and even help with housework! Messaging apps let us send videos and long messages easily. While phones help us stay connected, some people worry that we spend too much time on them. Looking back, it’s amazing how phones have changed. From Bell’s simple telephone to today’s smartphones, this has truly changed our lives. What will phones be able to do next? Only time will tell! 请将答案写在答题卡上。 31. The officers also tried to tell villagers the importance of protecting birds and other wild animals. They visited the villagers door to door and helped them with farm work. The aim of communicating well is to understand and to be understood. Communication can be successful only when both the sender and the receiver understand the same information. Good communication skills are the key to success in life, work and relationships. Without effective(有效的) communication, a message can become a disaster (灾难). In today’s highly informational and technological environment, it has become more important to have good communication skills. So we must learn them. Here are some important steps to communicate effectively. First, know what you want to say and why. Understand clearly the purpose of your message. Know whom you are communicating with and why. Second, how will you say it? We all know that it’s not always what you say, but how you say it, that matters. Begin by making eye contact. You show trust and confidence when you look others in the eye when you speak. Next, pay attention to your body language, because it can say so much more than your words. By standing with your arms easily at your sides, you tell others that you are open to hearing what they have to say. Third, communication is a two-way street. After you have said what you have to say, stop and listen. Practise your listening skills. Be considerate of others who are talking. Listen carefully and never cut them off. 40. What is the aim of communicating well? 41. What can a message turn into if you don’t have effective communication? 42. What does the underlined word “them” in Paragraph 3 refer to? 43. One cold January day, Helena ordered her to pick spring violets (紫罗兰) in the snow. “If you fail, we’ll throw you out!” she shouted. Maruska had no choice but to trudge (步履艰难地走) into the forest, shivering. In a clearing (林中空地), she found twelve men around a fire—the Twelve Months. She politely asked to warm up and told them her trouble. January, the oldest, nodded and called March. With a wave of March’s club (手杖), snow melted, and violets bloomed. Cadence shaded her eyes from the bright light and lifted her beach bag over her shoulder—until a soft “Help me!” rang out along the shore. She shouted back, but only the wide, empty beach and moving waves answered. The faint voice led her to run to Rocky Cove, her bare feet hitting the wet sand. She bent under a mossy rock ledge and caught her breath: a girl in a dress made of seaweed (decorated with pearls and shells) was sitting on a rocky island, her silver hair messy, her eyes the deepest blue. “I’m Cadence. Are you okay?” The girl, named Sorcha, said she was stuck—she had lost her home. “Maybe I can help,” Cadence said, her throat stinging from the salty sea spray. Sorcha told her about a magical underwater kingdom (where merpeople lived) that had been lost in a wild storm. For weeks, they searched the shore for clues, facing challenges and meeting ocean animals. Led by Sorcha’s strong inner feeling, they discovered an old cave that was a hidden door. The old man took the young man’s hands and said, “The pain of life is like salt—no more, no less. It is always the same. The only thing you can do is to be a person like a river, not a glass! Passage 4 Too many people want others to be their friends, but they don’t give friendship back. Sydney is the most populous (人口多的) city of Australia. The climate of Sydney is very good. It is not too cold during the winter and not too hot during the summer. The sky is blue, the air is fresh, and birds sing in the garden. People living in Sydney like to have an easy life. They will tell you, “Don’t worry.” Many people think that Sydney is one of the most attractive cities in the world. It has many tall and modern buildings. Passage 7 In 1876, Alexander Graham Bell made a great invention—the telephone. People used to call the mountain Daqueshan, which means bird-hunting mountain. The villagers used to hunt birds on the mountain. Then one year, they couldn’t hear birds singing. People started to worry if migratory birds would return again. In 1984, the Hongtupo Forest Police Station was set up. The officers worked on the mountain, trying to find migratory birds and stop people from hunting them. The job was really difficult. They might lose their way or meet dangerous animals. The officers also tried to tell villagers the importance of protecting birds and other wild animals. They visited the villagers door to door and helped them with farm work. They even organized activities in schools to get their messages across to children. Now, even children know that birds are to be loved. The mountain is greener, the water is clearer, and more and more animals come to live here. It has become a bird-protecting mountain. Many people have opened bed-and-break-fasts for birdwatchers. “The village has changed a lot, and we don’t hunt birds anymore,” people say. What do you think we should do to protect the birds? (Write 20 words or more. ) Passage 9 Communication is the process by which we exchange information between people. 43. What can say so much more than your words? 44. What are you like when you communicate with others? Passage 10 Chinese paper-cutting or Jianzhi is a kind of folk art (民间艺术). Passage 11 Maruska lived with her cruel stepmother and stepsister, Helena, who made her do all the work. Maruska thanked them and ran home. Helena was furious (暴怒的) but soon had a new plan, “Bring me strawberries!” Again, Maruska went to the forest. The Twelve Months listened kindly. September came, and an apple tree loaded with fruit appeared. She took two apples home. Greedy Helena went to the forest alone, pushing past the Months rudely. “Get me more apples!” she snapped. January was angry. He waved his club, and a blizzard hit. Helena got lost. Maruska waited, but Helena never came. The Months appeared and said, “Kindness earns help. “Maruska smiled and whispered,” _______________________ Task 1:Answer the questions. 50. Why did Maruska go to the forest in January at first? 51. Who helped Maruska get violets? 52. What did June do for Maruska? 53. Why did the Twelve Months get angry with Helena? 54. What is the main idea of the passage? Task 2: 55. Based on Maruska’s experience, write down her final words. Write sentences in about 30 words. Passage 12 The sun went down over the ocean slowly, and the waves seemed to swallow it whole. Sorcha turned it on, showing a glowing path back to her kingdom. “I will pay you back for your help,” she promised. ________________________ Task 1: Answer the questions. 56. Where did Cadence first hear the call for help? 57. What was special about Sorcha’s look? 58. What kind of place did Sorcha come from? 59. How did they find the hidden door? 60. What did Sorcha promise before leaving? Task 2: 61. In about 30 words, write an ending to the story. Passage 13 Queen Elara was captured (俘虏) by the Lion Fairy and locked in an underground cave. One day, she saved a frog from a crow. To her surprise, the frog could speak! “Your kindness saved me,” he said. “My magic hat lets me communicate with all creatures. I’ll help you send a message to your husband, King Theo.” The frog sneaked out (悄悄溜走) and traveled for years to find the king. When he reached the palace, the king was about to marry another. The frog spoke clearly, “King Theo, Queen Elara is alive and needs you!” His sincere words made the king believe him. The king followed the frog, but a poisonous lake blocked their way. A dragon offered help, asking for a future favor. Years later, the king and queen had a daughter, Muffette. When she was to marry Prince Leo, the dragon returned, “I want Muffette as my meal!” The king refused, but Muffette said gently, “You kept your promise, dragon. Can we talk about this?” Her polite words made the dragon pause. Just then, the frog arrived with the prince. He said to the dragon, “You helped out of kindness before. Surely you don’t want to hurt an innocent (无辜的) princess.” The dragon’s heart softened. He agreed to spare Muffette. As they walked back, Muffette turned to the frog and said, “ ________” Task 1: Answer the questions. 62. Why could the frog help Queen Elara? 63. How did the frog make King Theo believe him? 64. Based on Muffette’s experience, write down what she learned about communication. Write sentences in about 30 words. Passage 14 “Made in China” is more and more popular now—and it’s a fashionable one.    The story of Chinese fashion began in 2011 when Feiyue and Huili, Chinese sports shoes brands, made the world look at them. Chinese sports brand Li Ning also had a new design at New York Fashion Week in February 2019—it is the second time the brand showed its design at the NYFW. Chen Lijie, the brand’s designer, says his design comes from old Chinese truth (真理) that man is part of nature.     “Chinese brands don’t use ‘cheap’ as a selling point any more. They are amazing and can go head-to-head with foreign brands (外国品牌).” says Shaun Rein, director of China Market Research Group. Rome is not built in a day. Chinese designers spend much time designing the best and most fashionable clothes.     These Chinese brands became so popular perhaps because of the easy online shopping and the fact that China is growing stronger than before. Also, more and more people began to like Chinese culture.     “We want to replace (代替) the words ‘made in China’ with ‘designed in China’, but there is a long way to go.” said Chinese designer Aric Chen. We’re happy to show Chinese fashion ideas to the whole world. 68. When did Chinese fashion start to become popular? 69. How many times did Li Ning show its design at the NYFW? 70. What do Chinese designers spend much time doing? 71. How does the writer feel about showing the world Chinese fashion ideas? 72. Do you like sports shoes of Chinese brands? Why or why not? Passage 15 Having breakfast can give energy to your body and brain (大脑). It helps you stay strong and gives you lots of energy to start the day. When you eat breakfast, your body gets what it needs to work well. This can make it hard for you to get sick and help you grow well. According to (根据) some studies, students who eat morning meals score 15% higher in tests than those without breakfast. In schools with breakfast plans, fewer students come to school late and more students take part in classroom activities better. At the same time, students who don’t have breakfast are easy to be angry or sleepy. They often feel weak and find it hard to listen to teachers carefully in class. They cannot think clearly. Then, you may want to know what to eat for breakfast. Healthy choices like eggs, milk or fruit give nutrition (营养) to keep energy until lunch. You can also have some bread. To make it taste better, put some butter on it. Milk is good for your bones and teeth. It gives you energy as well. Apples can give you a lot of vitamins. You can have one as part of your breakfast. Try not to choose food with too much sugar, because it may make the energy drop (下滑) quickly. Instead, add fruit and nuts for nutrition. Remember that even a 10-minute breakfast matters (要紧). You can prepare simple meals the night before to save time. Your body and brain will thank you. 73. What does your body get when you have breakfast? 74. What are the healthy choices for breakfast? 75. Why does the writer tell us not to choose food with too much sugar? 76. If you want to save time to make breakfast, what can you do? 77. Do you think having breakfast is important? Why or why not? 2 / 2 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
