根据“Have you seen...wallet?” I think I saw it somewhere.”

C
“It is just too funny, hahaha…”, and just like this, three hours have passed until you realize you have done nothing! Some experts say if we don’t put our phones down, we are definitely going to be stupid. Studies even show that more and more people are watching short videos as long as they are awake.
So why is it so hard to say no to short videos? Algorithmic recommendation (算法推荐) must be the answer, because it is so smart that it can uncover our preferences—finding out what we are interested in and meeting our needs accordingly. The more we like something, the more it will feed us similar contents, continually like forever.
Now, you see why it’s so hard to refuse short videos. It’s time to figure out why they make you stupid.
One reason is that they narrow* your field of perception When looking through many similar videos, you might think you’re becoming more knowledgeable. Sadly, the truth is you are actually in an “information cocoon” (信息茧房), because you always stick to a few certain subjects that interest you. Believe it or not, if you unlock your mother’s phone, you may find that you two are living in totally different worlds!
Another reason is that you may lose patience for reading, thinking, and other activities. Since you’ve already got used to this low-cost-and-high-return form of entertainment (娱乐), you will never be patient with anything that requires time and effort.
What is the third one? You will get very emotional. Imagine this: you see a video that tells a negative story about someone and considers him bad, you might feel the same way and even post your comment immediately. However, a few days later, you find the truth is just the opposite, and you feel regretful and even hate yourself.
See, you become stupid bit by bit without realizing it. Maybe it’s time to wake up—you need a better way to entertain yourself!
* The verb narrow means to make your field of perception smaller.
31.The underlined word “uncover” means “________”.
A.close down B.take off C.dig out D.put away
32.Mentioning “your mother’s phone”, the writer wants to ________.
A.explain the theory of “information cocoon”
B.show mothers all have something in common
C.prove we know nothing about our mother’s life
D.suggest we should share the information
33.What is the best title for the passage?
A.A Better Way to Amuse Yourself B.You Are Going to Be Stupid
C.The Sharp Rise of Short Videos D.Time to Put Your Phone Down
【答案】31.C 32.A 33.D
31.根据第二段:“finding out what we are interested in and meeting our needs accordingly”,算法推荐的作用是“挖掘、发现”用户的偏好,划线单词“uncover”意为“挖掘、找出”,与“dig out”在此处的含义一致。
32.根据第四段:“you are actually in an ‘information cocoon’, because you always stick to a few certain subjects that interest you”,作者用“妈妈的手机”的例子,是为了解释 “信息茧房”的理论——每个人的推荐内容都是基于自身偏好形成的,因此和妈妈的信息世界会截然不同。
33.文章先提出“沉迷短视频会让人变‘愚笨’”的观点,接着分析了算法推荐的成瘾机制,以及短视频造成信息茧房、消磨耐心、引发情绪化判断的危害,最后以 “Maybe it’s time to wake up—you need a better way to entertain yourself!” “Time to Put Your Phone Down”呼应了开头“if we don’t put our phones down”的警示,也贴合结尾的呼吁,完整概括了“提出危害——分析原因——呼吁改变”的全文逻辑,因此是最恰当的标题。
D
Not everything goes the way you want it to. You may go to a restaurant and order a nice meal. But your food is not cooked properly. You may buy a product but it breaks the next day. These kinds of experiences will make you want to complain. However, if you speak angrily to people, they will become defensive (戒备的) and not want to help. A better way to get what you want is to use polite language in a friendly way. Start with words such as “I’m sorry to bother (打扰) you, but...” or “Excuse me, but...” Using a question to ask for help also works. People like to be asked rather than told! “Could you help me? I just bought this phone case yesterday, but it’s broken.” This sounds better, right?
When trying to correct a problem, don’t blame (责怪) the person you’re talking to. Blaming someone can quickly make him or her defensive. You can say, “I know this isn’t your mistake, but...” or “There has been a misunderstanding.” This shows you are only angry at the situation. Blaming isn’t as important as getting a problem fixed!
There are honest mistakes, but sometimes, someone may try to make use of you. In that case, don’t say, “Hey! You’re trying to cheat me!” Instead, say, “I understood that..., but...” Then, give him or her a chance to answer.
If being polite doesn’t work, you can ask to speak to a manager. But usually, a kind smile and polite words can help fix the problem.
34.Which of the following situations may make you complain?
A.You won first in the singing competition.
B.Your father bought you the bike you want.
C.The terrible traffic made you late for school.
D.You got better after taking some medicine.
35.What is the main idea of the second paragraph?
A.Blame the person who caused the problem seriously.
B.Try not to blame the person who caused the problem.
C.Don’t let others make use of you at any time.
D.It is right to give others chances to cheat you.
36.What words will you use when finding others’ mistakes?
A.You! Tom! Come here!
B.Tom, would you like to have a talk with me about this?
C.There are so many mistakes, Tom!
D.How careless of you, Tom!
37.How does the writer prove his or her ideas?
A.By listing examples. B.By asking questions.
C.By showing numbers. D.By giving examples.

Dear Patrick, Every time I look through my phone, I see someone having the time of their life. When I miss out on something fun or important that my friends are experiencing, I feel worried. How can I avoid this?
Sarah
Hi! Sarah,This is a big reason why so many people worry about social media’s influence on teenagers. Feeling worried and lonely as a result of looking through your phone is quite normal, even if it is unhealthy.
Quite a lot of people post their pictures or videos on social media. Most of them share the best parts of their lives. You must keep in mind that they do so to share good feelings with others. It’s hard to find people sharing their bad moments, like feeling stressed about their home life or shame after failing a test.
If seeing these videos and photos still causes bad feelings, stop connecting for a while. Do something that makes you pleased and relaxed. Try to read or spend some time with your family. You don’t need to impress anyone else.

C.The Sharp Rise of Short Videos D.Time to Put Your Phone Down
