When my mother passed away a few years ago,my father was left alone in the large house they had shared for
50 years.Without her to watch out for him,he was worried about who would find him and help if"something
happened".
My sister and I live in other states,so we hit on the idea that Dad could email us every morning when he
awoke.Then"the Morning Report'was born.
He's usually up by the crack of dawn, and his half a dozen or so sentences are waiting for me in my inbox
when I wake up.If there's no email,I call him,or my sister does,to make sure everything is fine. The reports have
become more than an everyday check though;they're a sort of diary,a catalyst (for more extended
conversations, and source of insight into his life
Through these emails,Dad tells us about his routines. He might be heading to the grocery store for bananas,
going to his cardiac-rehab(心脏康复)exercise class,or having lunch with friends.Recently he told us,,“T've
climbed halfway up Mount Washington!"Given his age and distance from New Hampshire, such a hike had been
unlikely
Each email closes with "All my love,Dad."When my mother was alive, that feeling was normally reserved
for her.Now that she is gone,he shares those feelings and his experiences with us.For me,what started as a simple
security measure has spawned deeper closeness.
I'm grateful my father is still able to manage his computer and the Internet.I know the day will come when
he'll no longer be able to write the reports, and we'll have to find other ways to keep track of one another. But until
then, they are our way of knowing that another normal day has begun.
24.What was the original purpose ofthe Morning Report"?
A.To ensure the father's safety.
B.To track the father's daily routines
C.To keep the father from feeling lonely.
D.To help the father manage his large house.

A.Hidden.
B.Weakened.

D.Created.
27.What does the author imply about the future of"the Morning Report"?
A.It will continue unchanged as long as the father lives.
B.It may eventually be replaced by other ways of staying in touch.
C.It has become less meaningful as the father grows older.
D.It will be taken over by the sister when the father can no longer write.

You can almost see scientists rubbing their hands or groaning whenever a new Hollywood film rolls out,
riddled with scientific errors. But one astronomer voiced a suggestion-maybe it's OK if a movie makes mistakes
in the facts,as long as it gets the big picture right about science and scientists.
Seth Shostak of the SETI Institute comes with his own experience on Hollywood sets. His biggest problem
wasn't with the alien technology.Instead,he fought for the filmmakers to stop showing the scientists as
data-calculating stereotypes(刻板印象)).“Real scientists don't describe an object entering the solar system as
notable for the fact that it was not moving in an asteroidal ellipse...but moving at nearly three times ten-to the
seventh meters per second,"said Shostak."More likely, they would say that there was 'a rock headed our way""
"Besides trying to make his fictional versions more recognizably human,he emphasized the need for films to focus
on convey ing the scientific method rather than arguing about details.
Another scientist disagreed, saying that inaccurate science could have consequences bey ond fictional settings.
Wayne Grody,a physician at UCLA,suggested that wrong depictions(描绘,刻画)of medicine could confuse
viewers."Perhaps some people do take away more science than they should from their favorite films or television
shows, although I'd like to see the court case where someone successfully charges Grey's Anatomy with misleading
them on a medical condition."
However,Shostak's point seems valid on the whole.Even medical educators have used shows to engage
medical students to deal with bioethical issues. The power of big or small screen drama comes from persuasive
characters that may represent brilliant doctors or scientific geniuses, but also have human quirks that allow viewers
to empathize.Such stories serve the purpose of helping demystify science. After all, science fiction writer Isaac
Asimov once remarked that science could become as mysterious and impossible to understand as magic.
Storytellers may help shine a light into the foggy temple by creating relatable characters that practice science
28.What is Seth Shostak's main concern?
A.The accuracy of alien technology depiction.
B.The use of technical terms in scientific dialogue.
C.The emphasis on conveying the scientific method.
D.The close-minded description of scientists.
29.What does Wayne Grody imply by mentioning the potential case against Grey's Anatomy?
A.Fictional medical errors can result in serious real-world confusion
B.Television dramas are responsible for educating medical students.
C.Viewers have become more critical of scientific details in shows.
D.Courts should play a role in monitoring scientific content in media
30.What does the underlined wordquirks in the last paragraph probably mean?
A.Talents.
B.Ambitions.
C.Characteristics.
D.Weaknesses.
31.Which of the following proverbs best summarizes the main idea of the text?
A.A picture is worth a thousand words.
B.Don't judge a book by its cover.
C.Seeing the forest for the trees.
D.Every coin has two sides.

A colorful colony of photosynthetic (光合的) cyanobacteria, known as blue-green algae (藻) , has successfully
powered a computer microprocessor for more than six months, according to a study published in the journal Energy
&Environmental Science.
The algae-computer system was placed in the window of biochemist Paolo Bom bell's home. What he saw next
really blew his mind:It s at there from February to August, and al the while it was working. And even after the
microprocessor has been disconnected, the cyanobacteria device continues to produce current.“Given the right
conditions of light, temperature and water, I can not predict when it will stop, ”said Bomb elli.
Cyanobacteria harvest energy from sunlight and make it into food for themselves. For this study, the
researchers put the power-providing microorganisms into a plastic and steel enclosure, about the size of an A A
battery, along with an aluminum anode (铝正极) .Throughout the experiment, the connected microprocessor was
programmed to do a bunch of calculations, and then check its own work. It did this in a 45-minute period, followed
by 15 minutes of standby, continuously for months with the cyanobacteria unit as its only power source.
Eventhough the algae rely on a light source to feed, the bio-system continued to produce enough power to run
the microprocessor in the dark. The scientists basically put down this phenomenon to leftovers. When there was
light, the cyanobacteria cooked up an over-abundance of food, and when it was dark the microorganisms kept
chewing on the extras.
According to Chris Howe, senior author of the study, the results suggest that the little bio-based battery
alternative could serve as away to power small electronics without rare earth elements, which are in short supply
and under growing demand. Plus, the system could also help bridge the electricity divide, providing another power
supply for people in rural areas or low-income countries.
Though the experiment's results are promising, it's important to keep in mind that the computer processor
tested uses very little energy —requiring only 0.3 microwatts to run. More research is need d to know exactly how
much the tiny A A-battery-sized device could scale up. Howe said, Putting one on your roof is n't going to provide
the power supply for your house at this stage.”
32.Which of the following facts about the algae-computer system surprised Bomb elli?
A.It can function without water.
B.It can convert light into power.
C.It can work for along time.
D.It can stand high temperatures.
33.What can we learn about the bio-system from paragraph 4?
A.It stores light for later use.
B.It works normally in the dark.
C.It consumes little food in the dark.
D.It produces food for people.
34.What will the research focus on next?
A.How the device will work on the roof.
B.Whether the device's size can be reduced.
C.Whether the device can play a bigger role
D.How the device will adapt to new environments.
35.What is the best title for the passage?
A.The Future of Household Electricity Supply
B.Blue-Green Algae:ANew Source of Food
C.An Algae-Powered Device Runs Computer for Months
D.A Promising Bio-Battery Creates the Miracle

第一节
One possible version:
Dear Chris,
I am a student in your Western Architecture Appreciation course this term. I’ve noticed that many classmates’ participation in class isn’t high. One reason might be that some students find the professional terms too difficult to understand. Also, the teaching methods seem a bit one-sided, lacking interaction.
I suggest using more visual materials like videos to make the knowledge more accessible. You could also organize group discussions, which would encourage students to express their ideas and increase their engagement.
Hope these suggestions help.
Best regards,
Li Hua
第二节
In a class discussion, I was invited to explain the meaning of my name. Standing up, I felt a mix of nervousness and excitement. “My name, Qiuyu, combines the characters for autumn and rain in Chinese,” I began, my voice steady. “Autumn represents harvest and maturity, while rain symbolizes nourishment and growth. Together, they embody a time of abundance and renewal.” As I spoke, I noticed the rapt attention of my classmates, their eyes reflecting curiosity and respect. It was a moment of connection, a bridge built between cultures through the simple act of sharing my name.
Many of my classmates got interested and came up to me after class. They surrounded me, their questions pouring out like a stream. “What other names have beautiful meanings in Chinese?” “Can you teach us how to write our names in Chinese characters?” I smiled, feeling a warmth spread through me. I took out a piece of paper and began to sketch out characters, explaining each stroke and its significance. Through this interaction, I realized that by embracing my cultural identity, I was not only preserving my heritage but also enriching the lives of those around me. It was a small yet meaningful step towards fostering cultural understanding and appreciation.

M: Sounds perfect.
Text 3
M: Hello, Miss Carter. Thanks for meeting me here at the apartment.

Text 6
W: How are you feeling about the volleyball next week? Your team’s done brilliantly to get into the final.

W: So will there be any challenges?

Text 10
When I was 10, I was hospitalized at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri for illness. They were testing me for a reason and the condition. I had to stay a couple of days and that involved getting shots and extensive tests. I was scared when my parents left, because I believed they would give me shots while they were gone and not listen to me. I knew that as a young person my opinion and fear meant nothing. The first night I went to bed and worried and cried the whole time. A nurse came in my room, sat down and read a book. I don’t remember her name and never met her. Every time I woke up and saw she was still sitting there. She will never know how much that mattered and it has been 25 years later now. Just her caring about my feelings and making me feel safe made a difference.

B
When my mother passed away a few years ago, my father was left alone in the large house they had shared for 50 years. Without her to watch out for him, he was worried about who would find him and help if “something happened”.
My sister and I live in other states, so we hit on the idea that Dad could email us every morning when he awoke. Then “the Morning Report” was born.
He’s usually up by the crack of dawn, and his half a dozen or so sentences are waiting for me in my inbox when I wake up. If there’s no email, I call him, or my sister does, to make sure everything is fine. The reports have become more than an everyday check though; they’re a sort of diary, a catalyst (催化剂) for more extended conversations, and source of insight into his life.
Through these emails, Dad tells us about his routines. He might be heading to the grocery store for bananas, going to his cardiac-rehab (心脏康复) exercise class, or having lunch with friends. Recently he told us, “I’ve climbed halfway up Mount Washington!” Given his age and distance from New Hampshire, such a hike had been unlikely.
Each email closes with “All my love, Dad.” When my mother was alive, that feeling was normally reserved for her. Now that she is gone, he shares those feelings and his experiences with us. For me, what started as a simple security measure has spawned deeper closeness.
I’m grateful my father is still able to manage his computer and the Internet. I know the day will come when he’ll no longer be able to write the reports, and we’ll have to find other ways to keep track of one another. But until then, they are our way of knowing that another normal day has begun.
24. What was the original purpose of “the Morning Report”?
A. To ensure the father’s safety. B. To track the father’s daily routines.
C. To keep the father from feeling lonely. D. To help the father manage his large house.
25. What can be inferred about the father’s current life?
A. He leads a lonely life. B. He stays active and engaged.
C. He misses his wife very much. D. He is learning to use a computer.
26. Which is closest in meaning to the underlined word “spawned” in paragraph 5?
A. Hidden. B. Weakened. C. Shadowed. D. Created.
27. What does the author imply about the future of “the Morning Report”?
A. It will continue unchanged as long as the father lives.
B. It may eventually be replaced by other ways of staying in touch.
C. It has become less meaningful as the father grows older.
D. It will be taken over by the sister when the father can no longer write.
A 25. B 26. D 27. B
根据第一段“When my mother passed away a few years ago, my father was left alone in the large house they had shared for 50 years. Without her to watch out for him, he was worried about who would find him and help if “something happened”.(几年前,我的母亲去世了,而我父亲独自一人留在他们共同居住了50年的大房子里。没有母亲在身边照顾他,他很担心如果“出了什么事”,谁会来找到他并提供帮助呢)”以及第二段“My sister and I live in other states, so we hit on the idea that Dad could email us every morning when he awoke. Then “the Morning Report” was born.(我的姐姐和我分别住在不同的州,于是我们想到了一个主意:爸爸每天早上醒来后可以给我们发电子邮件。就这样,“早间报告”便诞生了)”可知,“早间报告”最初的目的是确保父亲的安全。故选A。
根据第四段“Through these emails, Dad tells us about his routines. He might be heading to the grocery store for bananas, going to his cardiac-rehab (心脏康复) exercise class, or having lunch with friends. Recently he told us, “I’ve climbed halfway up Mount Washington!” Given his age and distance from New Hampshire, such a hike had been unlikely.(通过这些电子邮件,爸爸向我们讲述了他的日常活动安排。他可能会去杂货店买香蕉,去参加心脏康复训练课程,或者和朋友共进午餐。最近他告诉我们:“我爬到了华盛顿山的半山腰了!”考虑到他的年龄以及与新罕布什尔州的距离,这样的徒步旅行几乎是不可能的)”可知,他始终保持活跃且积极投入。故选B。
26. 词句猜测题。根据倒数第二段“Each email closes with “All my love, Dad.” When my mother was alive, that feeling was normally reserved for her. Now that she is gone, he shares those feelings and his experiences with us. For me, what started as a simple security measure has spawned deeper closeness.(每封邮件的结尾都会写着“我所有的爱,爸爸”。在我母亲在世时,这种情感通常只属于她。如今她已离世,他将这些情感以及他的经历与我们分享。对我而言,最初只是个简单的安全保障方式,却spawned了我们之间更深的亲密)”可知,原本只是安全措施,后来产生、造就了更深的亲密感。故划线词“spawned”意思是“产生,创造”,与“Created”意思相近。故选D。
27. 推理判断题。根据最后一段“I know the day will come when he’ll no longer be able to write the reports, and we’ll have to find other ways to keep track of one another.(我知道总有一天,他将再也无法写出这些报告了,到那时我们将不得不寻找其他方式来了解彼此的情况。)”
C
You can almost see scientists rubbing their hands or groaning whenever a new Hollywood film rolls out, riddled with scientific errors. But one astronomer voiced a suggestion — maybe it’s OK if a movie makes mistakes in the facts, as long as it gets the big picture right about science and scientists.
Seth Shostak of the SETI Institute comes with his own experience on Hollywood sets. His biggest problem wasn’t with the alien technology. Instead, he fought for the filmmakers to stop showing the scientists as data-calculating stereotypes “Real scientists don’t describe an object entering the solar system as notable for the fact that it was not moving in an asteroidal ellipse…but moving at nearly three times ten-to the seventh meters per second,’” said Shostak. “More likely, they would say that there was ‘a rock headed our way’” “Besides trying to make his fictional versions more recognizably human, he emphasized the need for films to focus on conveying the scientific method rather than arguing about details.
Another scientist disagreed, saying that inaccurate science could have consequences beyond fictional settings. Wayne Grody, a physician at UCLA, suggested that wrong depictions (描绘,刻画) of medicine could confuse viewers. “Perhaps some people do take away more science than they should from their favorite films or television shows, although I’d like to see the court case where someone successfully charges Grey’s Anatomy with misleading them on a medical condition.”
However, Shostak’s point seems valid on the whole. Even medical educators have used shows to engage medical students to deal with bioethical issues. The power of big or small screen drama comes from persuasive characters that may represent brilliant doctors or scientific geniuses, but also have human quirks that allow viewers to empathize. Such stories serve the purpose of helping demystify science. After all, science fiction writer Isaac Asimov once remarked that science could become as mysterious and impossible to understand as magic. Storytellers may help shine a light into the foggy temple by creating relatable characters that practice science.
28. What is Seth Shostak’s main concern?
A. The accuracy of alien technology depiction.
B. The use of technical terms in scientific dialogue.
C. The emphasis on conveying the scientific method.
D. The close-minded description of scientists.
29. What does Wayne Grody imply by mentioning the potential case against Grey’s Anatomy?
A. Fictional medical errors can result in serious real-world confusion.
B. Television dramas are responsible for educating medical students
C. Viewers have become more critical of scientific details in shows.
D. Courts should play a role in monitoring scientific content in media.
30. What does the underlined word “quirks” in the last paragraph probably mean?
A. Talents. B. Ambitions. C. Characteristics. D. Weaknesses.
31. Which of the following proverbs best summarizes the main idea of the text?
A. A picture is worth a thousand words. B. Don’t judge a book by its cover.
C. Seeing the forest for the trees. D. Every coin has two sides.
D 29. A 30. C 31. C
根据文章第二段“His biggest problem wasn't with the alien technology. Instead, he fought for the filmmakers to stop showing the scientists as data-calculating stereotypes (刻板印象).(他最大的问题不在于外星科技。相反,他努力争取让电影制作者停止将科学家描绘成只会计算数据的刻板形象。)”可知,Seth Shostak主要关注的是电影中对科学家狭隘、刻板的描绘。故选D。
29. 推理判断题。根据文章第三段“Wayne Grody, a physician at UCLA, suggested that wrong depictions (描绘,刻画) of medicine could confuse viewers.(加州大学洛杉矶分校的医生韦恩·格罗迪指出,对医学的错误描绘可能会迷惑观众。)”以及后文他提到的假设性案例“although I'd like to see the court case where someone successfully charges Grey’s Anatomy with misleading them on a medical condition.(尽管我倒想看到一个有人成功起诉《实习医生格蕾》在医疗状况上误导他们的法庭案例。)” 故选A。
根据文章最后一段划线词所在句“The power of big or small screen drama comes from persuasive characters that may represent brilliant doctors or scientific geniuses, but also have human quirks that allow viewers to empathize.(大小银幕戏剧的力量来自于有说服力的角色,这些角色可能代表了才华横溢的医生或科学天才,但也拥有让观众产生共鸣的人性化的quirks。)” quirks在此处意为“特点、习性”,与“Characteristics(特点、特征)”最为接近。故选C。
根据文章内容,第一段提出核心观点:“maybe it’s OK if a movie makes mistakes in the facts, as long as it gets the big picture right about science and scientists.(只要电影在科学和科学家的整体描绘上是正确的,犯一些事实性错误也许是可以接受的。)”
D
A colorful colony of photosynthetic (光合的) cyanobacteria, known as blue-green algae (藻), has successfully powered a computer microprocessor for more than six months, according to a study published in the journal Energy & Environmental Science.
The algae-computer system was placed in the window of biochemist Paolo Bombell’s home. What he saw next really blew his mind: It sat there from February to August, and all the while it was working. And even after the microprocessor has been disconnected, the cyanobacteria device continues to produce current. “Given the right conditions of light, temperature and water, I cannot predict when it will stop,” said Bombelli.
Cyanobacteria harvest energy from sunlight and make it into food for themselves. For this study, the researchers put the power-providing microorganisms into a plastic and steel enclosure, about the size of an AA battery, along with an aluminum anode (铝正极). Throughout the experiment, the connected microprocessor was programmed to do a bunch of calculations, and then check its own work. It did this in a 45-minute period, followed by 15 minutes of standby, continuously for months with the cyanobacteria unit as its only power source.
Even though the algae rely on a light source to feed, the bio-system continued to produce enough power to run the microprocessor in the dark. The scientists basically put down this phenomenon to leftovers. When there was light, the cyanobacteria cooked up an over-abundance of food, and when it was dark the microorganisms kept chewing on the extras.
According to Chris Howe, senior author of the study, the results suggest that the little bio-based battery alternative could serve as a way to power small electronics without rare earth elements, which are in short supply and under growing demand. Plus, the system could also help bridge the electricity divide, providing another power supply for people in rural areas or low-income countries.
Though the experiment’s results are promising, it’s important to keep in mind that the computer processor tested uses very little energy — requiring only 0.3 microwatts to run. More research is needed to know exactly how much the tiny AA-battery-sized device could scale up. Howe said, Putting one on your roof isn’t going to provide the power supply for your house at this stage.”
32. Which of the following facts about the algae-computer system surprised Bombelli?
A. It can function without water. B. It can convert light into power.
C. It can work for a long time. D. It can stand high temperatures.
33. What can we learn about the bio-system from paragraph 4?
A. It stores light for later use. B. It works normally in the dark.
C. It consumes little food in the dark. D. It produces food for people.
34. What will the research focus on next?
A. How the device will work on the roof. B. Whether the device’s size can be reduced.
C. Whether the device can play a bigger role. D. How the device will adapt to new environments.
35. What is the best title for the passage?
A. The Future of Household Electricity Supply
B. Blue-Green Algae: A New Source of Food
C. An Algae-Powered Device Runs Computer for Months
D. A Promising Bio-Battery Creates the Miracle

根据第四段“Even though the algae rely on a light source to feed, the bio-system continued to produce enough power to run the microprocessor in the dark.(尽管藻类依靠光源来获取食物,但生物系统在黑暗中仍能继续产生足够的电力来运行微处理器)”可知,生物系统在黑暗中能正常工作。故选B项。
根据最后一段“Though the experiment’s results are promising, it’s important to keep in mind that the computer processor tested uses very little energy — requiring only 0.3 microwatts to run. More research is needed to know exactly how much the tiny AA-battery-sized device could scale up.(尽管实验结果很有希望,但重要的是要记住,测试的计算机处理器消耗的能量非常少——运行仅需要0.3微瓦。需要更多的研究来确切知道这个微小的AA电池大小的设备能扩大到什么程度)”可知,接下来的研究将关注这个设备是否能发挥更大的作用。故选C项。
35. 主旨大意题。根据第一段“A colorful colony of photosynthetic (光合的) cyanobacteria, known as blue-green algae (藻), has successfully powered a computer microprocessor for more than six months, according to a study published in the journal Energy & Environmental Science. Experts praise the virtues of social connectivity. It’s linked to better resistance to stress and even longer life. 36 Research suggests that loneliness increases the risk of heart disease, anxiety, depression, high blood pressure and even early death. 37 Doing things by yourself allows you to enjoy activities you love at your own pace and in your own way. Through solitary (独处) pursuits, you learn more about yourself and reflect on your experiences.
38 It is an important part of self-development. It allows you to get to know yourself. When you are surrounded by other, you might set your own ideas and passions aside in order to meet the wants and needs of your friends and family. Taking time on your own gives you a critical opportunity to make creative choices and focus your attention without worrying about what other people are thinking.
39 But research has found that people are often better at solving difficult problems when they work on their own. Where group efforts are often about achieving consensus (一致的意见) and fitting in with the crowd, solo work encourages creativity without added social pressure.
Relationships are often strongest when each person takes time to take care of themselves. Even when it comes to friendships, the old saying may be true. A little absence might really make the heart grow fonder. Having friendships and a strong social support system is important for your mental health and well-being. 40
A. Being alone is harmful if it feels like a punishment.
B. Being alone gives you time to focus on your interests.
C. Being alone, on the other hand, is often associated with loneliness.
D. Research has shown that many people actually prefer being on their own.
E. However, research is increasingly showing that doing things alone does pay off.
F. Brainstorming together is often seen as one of the best ways to generate new ideas.
G. But being alone occasionally may make you appreciate those connections even more.

36. 空后下文“Research suggests that loneliness increases the risk of heart disease, anxiety, depression, high blood pressure and even early death.”(研究表明孤独增加得心脏病,焦虑,绝望,高血压以及过早死亡的风险。)可知是针对孤独的研究,而空前“Experts praise the virtues of social connectivity. It’s linked to better resistance to stress and even longer life.”(专家表扬社交联系的重要。 可知空前没有提到孤独,所以空处需引出孤独这个话题,结合选项,只有C项“Being alone, on the other hand, is often associated with loneliness.”(另一方面,独处常常和孤独联系在一起)与下文一致,故选C项。
37. 空前“Experts praise the virtues of social connectivity. It’s linked to better resistance to stress and even longer life. 36 Research suggests that loneliness increases the risk of heart disease, anxiety, depression, high blood pressure and even early death.”(专家表扬社交联系的重要。 可知,空前是讲社交联系的好处,独处的坏处,而空后“Doing things by yourself allows you to enjoy activities you love at your own pace and in your own way.”(自己独自做事情允许用自己的步伐和自己的方式去做一些你喜欢的活动。)是在讲述独自做事情的好处,空前后句意相反,所以空处需要表转折的句子,结合选项,E项“ However”表转折,且后半句“research is increasingly showing that doing things alone does pay off.”
38. 空处位于句首,是段落主题句,空后“It is an important part of self-development. It allows you to get to know yourself.”(这是自我发展的一个重要部分。 以及最后一句“Taking time on your own gives you a critical opportunity to make creative choices and focus your attention without worrying about what other people are thinking.”(花时间在你自己身上是给你一个重要的机会去做一些创造性的选择并且只关注你自己不用担心别人在想什么。)可知本段主要讲述自己独自做事情的好处,结合选项,B项“Being alone gives you time to focus on your interests.”(独处给你时间专注于你的兴趣)与本段文意相符,故选B项。
39. 空后“But research has found that people are often better at solving difficult problems when they work on their own.”(但是研究已经发现当人们在独自工作时,他们更擅长解决难题。)可知,空处语意需与空后意思相反,且结合最后一句“solo work encourages creativity without added social pressure.”(自工作鼓励创造性没有额外的社会压力)可知,本段是针对创造性讲的,F项“Brainstorming together”与空后work on their own相反,且generate new ideas产生新想法与下文creativity一致,故选F项(集体思考通常被认为是产生新想法的最佳方式之一)。
40. 综合全文看,文章主要讨论social connectivity和being alone这两个话题,且空前“Having friendships and a strong social support system is important for your mental health and well-being.”(拥有友谊和一个强大社会支持体系对你的精神健康和身体健康是很重要。) But being alone occasionally may make you appreciate those connections even more.(但偶尔的独处会让你更加珍惜这些联系)符合语境,故选G项。

In a modest yet vibrant martial arts club, the rhythmic thud (重击) of feet striking the ground echoes in sync with the sharp, thunderous cry of “Hay-Hah!”.
53-year-old Degbo is leading scores of students through precise movements of kung fu and tai chi. For Degbo, Chinese martial arts are not 56 (mere) a physical discipline but a philosophy, a way of life, 57 above all a bridge between his homeland of Benin and China.
At the tender age of 13, while a student in Dangbo town in southeast Benin, Degbo 58 (discover) his passion. Spending school holidays watching Chinese martial arts films 59 (feature) legends like Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan, he found an accidental encounter with the exotic culture 60 ignited a life-changing interest.
Degbo began his journey 61 joining a private kung fu club in Porto-Novo. Later, the Beninese martial arts enthusiast 62 (take) to the Shaolin Temple in Henan province for better mastering the art. In 2010, he founded his own club, Super Shaolin of Benin.
Reflecting on his journey of learning Chinese martial arts through the eyes of 63 master, Degbo said it is a 64 (spirit) rebirth. “The experience offered me a deep and immersive 65 (introduce) to Chinese culture,” he said. “It strengthened my mind and body and shaped how I see the world. I want to pass on what I learned to empower young people with an understanding of another culture.”
56. merely 57. and 58. discovered 59. featuring 60. that/which 61. by 62. was taken 63. a 64. spiritual 65. introduction
该句列举了中国功夫对Degbo的三个意义:a philosophy,a way of life,a bridge between his homeland of Benin and China,三者之间属于并列关系,应填连词and。故填and。
此空引导限制性定语从句,修饰先行词an accidental encounter with the exotic culture,指物,且在从句中作主语,此从句用关系代词that或which引导。故填that/which。
用介词by,by joining a private kung fu club作方式状语。故填by。
主语“the Beninese martial arts enthusiast”指Degbo,和动词take之间是被动关系,即他“被带到”少林寺,主语为第三人称单数,所以用被动语态was taken。故填was taken。
故填a。

Dear Chris,
I am a student in your Western Architecture Appreciation course this term.
Best regards,
Li Hua

“What is your name? ” is a question most frequently asked when people meet for the first time. But for me, it was the first challenge I encountered as an international student in Ireland.
The pronunciation system of the Chinese language is quite different from that of English. For native speakers of English, some Chinese words are rather difficult to pronounce. My given name Qiuyu (秋雨), for instance, happened to be a great challenge for many of them. Every time I gave a self-introduction, I had to explain how to pronounce my name at least five times, yet they still could not say it the way I did.
Once in a lecture, the professor tried repeating my name after me over and over in front of thirty classmates. I really did not know whether I should continue correcting him or simply drop the matter. I feared that my classmates might grow tired of my efforts or even lose patience with me. After all, I did care about how others would think of me. I realized that if I didn’t stop, the entire lecture would be ruined. “It’s okay, professor,” I shrugged (耸肩). The awkward moment ended with the class erupting into laughter. I forced a smile, unsure how to respond further.
After that incident, I stopped acting as a “Chinese teacher.” Instead of correcting others when they were struggling to pronounce my name, I just smiled and nodded approvingly. This approach spared me the discomfort of having to over-explain. However, I soon found that by doing so, I might be losing something more important: the opportunity to share a small part of my cultural identity.
注意:
(1) 续写词数应为150个左右;
In a class discussion, I was invited to explain the meaning of my name. _______________________________
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Many of my classmates got interested and came up to me after class. _______________________________
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________【答案】One possible version:

B. Television dramas are responsible for educating medical students.
