If you fancy something a bit more rural, then the green and pleasant land has plenty to offer. Goring Gap and the Thames Path If you’re in the mood for a gentle rural walk, the Thames Path is far from boring. The 5-mile footpath follows the curve of the river, winding past wildflower meadows (草地). Post-walk pub: Pangbourne’s seventeenth-century pub The Swan serves high-end dishes. Bag a table on the riverside or keep toasty by one of its open fires. Box Hill To admire this spots rural views, first you’ve got to jump across 17 stepping stones and climb 272 steps to the top of Box Hill, where the path begins. The total distance is 6.8 miles. Post-walk pub: The cavernous Tree on Box Hill has an attractive menu and huge beer garden, or sample a glass of Juniper Hill at Denbies Winerie. A South Downs Ridge (山脊) If you’ve already done the classic Seven Sisters clifftop walk or can’t face all those hills, this is a long but lovely alternative. The route covering 14.3 miles snakes along a ridge and a river valley. Post-walk pub: There are always 10 real beers at the old-school pub The Wellington. Chess Valley in the Chilterns Chess Valley in the Chiltern Hills isn’t home to any chess masters, but it used to produce a kind of water plant. This walk of 4.9 miles follows the river, winding through rolling meadows and woods. Post-walk pub: The George & Dragon is a simple old coaching pub on the High Street with a log fire, real beers and giant burgers. 1. Which of the following walks covers the shortest distance? A. Box Hill. B. A South Downs Ridge. C. Chess Valley in the Chilterns. D. Goring Gap and the Thames Path. 2. What do the listed scenic walks in the text have in common? A. The pubs are pretty and old-fashioned. B. Visitors can relax at special pubs after walks. C. There are rivers winding through the meadows. D. The food served there is expensive and of high quality. 3. Where is this text probably taken from? A. A geography book. B. A travel brochure. C. A fashion website. D. A science magazine. C 2. B 3. 通过阅读文章可知,“Goring Gap and the Thames Path”中“The 5-mile footpath follows the curve of the river, winding past wildflower meadows.(这条5英里长的步道沿着河流的曲线蜿蜒经过野花草地)”的距离是5英里,“Box Hill”中 “The total distance is 6.8 miles.(总距离为6.8英里)”是6.8英里,“A South Downs ridge”中“The route covering 14.3 miles snakes along a ridge and a river valley.(这条路线全长14.3英里,蜿蜒于山脊和河谷之间)”是14.3英里,“Chess Valley in the Chilterns”中“This walk of 4.9 miles follows the river…(这条4.9英里的路沿着河走……)”是4.9英里,因此距离最短的是“Chess Valley in the Chilterns”。 Bag a table on the riverside or keep toasty by one of its open fires.( 步行后的酒吧:庞伯恩17世纪的酒吧The Swan供应高档菜肴。在河边收拾一张桌子,或者在篝火旁烤一烤)”,“Post-walk pub: The cavernous Tree on Box Hill has an attractive menu and huge beer garden, or sample a glass of Juniper Hill at Denbies Winerie.(步行后的酒吧:盒子山上洞穴般的树有一个吸引人的菜单和巨大的啤酒花园,或在Denbies Winerie品尝一杯杜松山)”,“Post-walk pub: There are always 10 real beers at the old-school pub The Wellington.(散步后的酒吧:在老派的惠灵顿酒吧总有10种真正的啤酒)”,以及“Post-walk pub: The George & Dragon is a simple old coaching pub on the High Street with a log fire, real beers and giant burgers.(散步后的酒吧:乔治和龙是高街上一家简单的老教练酒吧,有篝火、真正的啤酒和巨大的汉堡)”可知, 17世纪的风格的、吸引人的菜单、十种啤酒、老式驿站,都是有特色的小酒馆,由此可推知,它们的共同点在于游客可以在散步后到有特色的酒吧放松。 通过阅读文章可知,文章首段“There are plenty of walking routes in London. If you fancy something a bit more rural, then the green and pleasant land has plenty to offer.(伦敦有很多步行路线。如果你喜欢一些更乡村的东西,那么绿色和宜人的土地有很多东西可以提供)”揭示了文章话题,即步行旅游方案的话题,可以推论出这篇文章可能会出自旅游宣传册。故选B项。 B Colette Maze has been playing the piano for over a century. She practices four hours a day and her fingers never tire. Music is her spiritual food. The piano, her passion and her friend, instills a sense of wonder in life each day, making her a source of inspiration to all. Colette Maze was born in Paris in 1914. She started playing the piano at the age of five. As a young student, she was taught a technique by the legendary piano master Alfred Cortot, which focuses on relaxing the arms and hands when playing. To this day, the manner in which Colette Maze touches the piano while playing the tender music of Robert Schumann and Claude Debussy is still unusual and attractive. Contrary to the social conventions of the times, Maze decided to pursue music as a career. “She decided she was an artist, a musician, not a housewife, so she married the piano,” said her son Fabrice Maze. Later she became a piano teacher and a single mother with great difficulty. The piano always brings her solace. “Music is an affective language and a poetic language. In music, there is everything — nature, emotion, love, dreams,” Colette Maze said. Colette Maze’s talent and enthusiasm are priceless, especially during the times of the pandemic. “She helps improve morale (士气). Though at an old age, she is in good form for she has passion and can look after herself. Her sense of humor, her joy and her love of life make other people smile,” Fabrice Maze said. Colette Maze explained that life is not about being old or young. “Youth is inside us. Life is all about staying passionate and curious. You can’t let that slip away. If you appreciate what’s beautiful around you, you will find a sense of wonder in it,” she said. 4. How did Alfred Cortot influence Colette Maze? A. He presented her with a special piano. B. He invited famous pianists to train her. C. He took her to enjoy piano concerts. D. He taught her an approach to play the piano. 5. What does the underlined word “solace” in Paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Pity. B. Comfort. C. Clue. D. Trouble. 6. What can we learn from Fabrice Maze’s words in Paragraph 4? A. Colette has been changed a lot by music. B. Colette is highly valued by musicians. C. Colette inspires others to live with strength. D. Colette don’t care about others’ lives. 7. What lesson can we take from Colette Maze’s story? A. Be active and passionate about life forever. B. Family support is important to career success. C. Repeat helps to promote excellence. D. Communicating with masters always helps one become better. D 5. B 6. C 7. 根据第二段第二句“As a young student, she was taught a technique by the legendary piano master Alfred Cortot, which focuses on relaxing the arms and hands when playing. (作为一名年轻的学生,她接受了传奇钢琴大师阿尔弗雷德·科尔托教授的一种技巧,该技巧的重点是在演奏时放松手臂和双手。)”可知,阿尔弗雷德·科尔托教授教给她一种独特的演奏钢琴的方法:演奏时放松手臂和双手。故选D。 【5题详解】 词义猜测题。根据第三段第三四句“Later she became a piano teacher and a single mother with great difficulty. The piano always brings her solace. (后来,她成为了一名钢琴教师和一位单身母亲,经历了很大的困难。钢琴总是给她带来______。)”可知,在经历很大的困难时,钢琴总是能安慰她。故划线词应为“安慰”。故选B。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段最后三句“She helps improve morale (士气). Though at an old age, she is in good form for she has passion and can look after herself. Her sense of humor, her joy, and her love of life make other people smile,” Fabrice Maze said. 根据最后一段“Colette Maze explained that life is not about being old or young. “Youth is inside us. Life is all about staying passionate and curious. You can’t let that slip away. If you appreciate what’s beautiful around you, you will find a sense of wonder in it,” she said. A。 C Should we allow modern buildings to be built next to older buildings in a historic area of a city? In order to answer this question, we must first examine whether people really want to preserve the historic feel of an area. Not all historical buildings are attractive. However, there may be other reasons — for example, economic reasons — why they should be preserved. So, let us assume (假设) that historical buildings are both attractive and important to the majority of people. What should we do then if a new building is needed? In my view, new architectural styles can exist perfectly well alongside an older style. Indeed, there are many examples in my own hometown of Tours where modern designs have been placed very successfully next to old buildings. As long as the building in question is pleasing and does not affect its surroundings too much, it often improves the attractiveness of the area. It is true that there are examples of new buildings which have spoilt the area they are in, but the same can be said of some old buildings too. Yet people still speak against new buildings in historic areas. I think this is simply because people are naturally conservative and do not like change. Although we have to respect people’s feelings as fellow users of the buildings, I believe that it is the duty of the architect and planner to move things forward. If we always reproduced what was there before, we would all still be living in caves. Thus, I would argue against copying previous architectural styles and choose something fresh and different, even though that might be the more risky choice. 8. What does the author say about historical buildings in Paragraph 1? A. Some of them are not attractive. B. Most of them are too expensive to preserve. C. They are more pleasing than modern buildings. D. They have nothing to do with the historic feel of an area. 9. Which of the following is true according to the author? A. We should reproduce the same old buildings. B. In no way should buildings affect the surroundings. C. Some old buildings have ruined the area they are in. D. Nobody knows why people speak against new buildings. 10. By “move things forward” in the last paragraph, the author probably means ________. A. destroy old buildings B. put things in a different place C. choose new architectural styles D. respect people’s feelings for historical buildings 11. What is the main purpose of the passage? A. To explain why people dislike change. B. To warn that we could end up living in caves. C To admit how new buildings have ruined their surroundings. D. To argue that modern buildings can be built in historic areas. A 9. C 10. C 11. 根据第一段中“Not all historical buildings are attractive.(并不是所有的历史建筑都吸引人。)” 故选A。 根据第三段中“It is true that there are examples of new buildings which have spoilt the area they are in, but the same can be said of some old buildings too.(的确,有些新建筑破坏了它们所在的区域,但有些旧建筑也是如此。)” 根据最后一段中“If we always reproduced what was there before, we would all still be living in caves. Thus, I would argue against copying previous architectural styles and choose something fresh and different, even though that might be the more risky choice.(如果我们总是复制以前存在的东西,我们仍然会住在山洞里。 根据第一段中“So, let us assume that historical buildings are both attractive and important to the majority of people. What should we do then if a new building is needed?(那么,让我们假设历史建筑对大多数人来说既有吸引力又很重要。 D。 D Talking out loud to yourself is totally normal — and even beneficial. Gary Lupyan, a psychology (心理学) teacher, says it can help you solve problems and do tasks better. In one of his studies, people were asked to search for different objects like a fork in random photos. When participants said the name of what they were looking for out loud, they were able to find it much faster than when they didn’t. This is because saying the name keeps what it looks like fresh in your mind while searching. Self-talk can be encouraging, too, Lupyan points out. In another study, basketball players performed faster and better when they talked to themselves out loud in a positive or helpful way. It can help you stay focused, especially in a multi-step situation. “Language is good at arranging steps,” he says. “It helps people stay on task and know when to switch to the next part.” Another psychology teacher, Brinthaupt, thinks self-talk is like a tool to adjust your emotions. It can guide you to your goals and give you useful feedback. You might use it to criticize yourself, praise yourself, or plan your next move — like practicing what to say before meeting someone new, or cheering yourself up if you regret what you said. Talking out loud can be a way to let off steam. For example, saying bad words out loud can help you feel better, which can release your bad emotion. Surprisingly, it can help in social aspects. Self-talk blurs (使模糊) the line between personal and interpersonal communication. It makes the line between talking to yourself and talking to others unclear, letting people know what you think or feel directly or indirectly. 12. How does the writer prove his opinion in paragraph 1 and 2? A. By listing numbers. B. By giving examples. C. By asking questions. D. By explaining rules. 13. What can self-talk help people do according to Brinthaupt? A. Adjust goals. B. Practise skills. C. Manage emotions. D. Make comments. 14. What can be inferred from the text? A. Self-talk plays an important role in our daily life. B. People use self-talk only when they are in trouble. C. Bad emotions can never be released through self-talk. D. Self-talk always leads to better social relationships. 15. What is the purpose of this text? A. To teach people ways to carry out self-talk. B. To discuss the dangers of negative self-talk. C. To introduce two teachers’ studies on self-talk. D. To explain different functions of self-talk. B 13. C 14. A 15. 第一段中提到“In one of his studies, people were asked to search for different objects like a fork in random photos. When participants said the name of what they were looking for out loud, they were able to find it much faster than when they didn’t. 第二段中提到“In another study, basketball players performed faster and better when they talked to themselves out loud in a positive or helpful way. 根据第三段中“Another psychology teacher, Brinthaupt, thinks self-talk is like a tool to adjust your emotions. 故选A项。 Traveling is not just about exploring new places, but it is also an opportunity to learn about local customs, like what to speak, how to eat and etc. ____16____ This also shows respect for the locals. My parents owned a little grocery store, so we were definitely not fancy people. Thankfully, my dad had raised me to have a lot of confidence. He often said, “You can do anything you want to do.” My dad was particularly supportive. He was my steady rock — always there for me. With his help and encouragement, I was admitted to the radio and television arts program at Ryerson in Toronto. I really loved the program and worked hard and I was named the most outstanding graduate. I felt like I was already living my dream. I began to think that maybe I could apply for an internship in CBC or CTV. Luckily, Global Television had just started broadcasting in Canada that year. I thought to myself: I’m new and they're new, so if Fm going to get to know one person at Global, it might as well be the president. I was scared, but I knew deep down inside that this was what I wanted. When I called my dad and told him my plan, he said, “Good, Faye. That’s exactly what you should do.” With my heart just about pounding out of my body, I called up the president of Global Television. Suddenly Mr. Slaight was on the phone. “I’ve heard that your studio facilities are amazing. I could come at eleven o’clock on Monday or eleven o’clock on Sunday for a tour. What would suit you better?” I caught him totally off guard. He stuttered a bit, and then picked a day. When I hung up, I was scared but excited. I arrived at the studio on the appointed day. When Mr. Slaight took me around, he looked at me and said, “What do you want?” He sounded furious but curious. “All I want is a chance to audition. I just want you to know my face. That’s all I’m asking.” I didn’t know whether I’d ever hear from him again, but two weeks later, his secretary called, “Mr. Slaight wants to know if you’d like to come and audition for a new school life show.” I immediately answered,“Sure!” Paragraph 1: When I arrived at the station, I went direct into the audition and began my short performance. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Finally came the day of my first public appearance on live TV with my parents at home watching. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: When I arrived at the station, I went direct into the audition and began my short performance. With boldness, I finished my performance relatively smoothly though palms were sweating. Never in my wildest dream did I imagine that I was indeed assigned the intern job to act on a school life show and my first public appearance on TV was in five days. After sharing the thrilling news with my dad, I received the warmest congratulations and expectations from my family. Picturing my families eagerly waiting for my performance, I worked day and night as busy as a bee for fear that I would make a fool of myself live on TV. Finally came the day of my first public appearance on live TV with my parents at home watching. Wearing fancy dress and delicate make up, I was so proud but nervous that my show would be watched by so many audience. My mind suddenly went blank as I was immersed in my thoughts and totally forgot my lines. Deep frowns gradually climbed on my partners' face, with whose sudden vigorous pull, I was driven back to the reality. I soon came up with a little trick to make up for the embarrassing blank. As the show went on, so concentrated was I that I hardly dared to even blink my eyes. After my debut, I rang my dad with frustration and disappointment, only to reap his trust and encouragement again. It was literally dad's love that supported me along my way to be an outstanding actor. 词汇激活 行为类 到达:arrive at/get to 完成:finish/complete 出丑:make a fool of oneself / become a laughing stock 情绪类 急切:eagerly / urgently 紧张:nervous / stressful 【点睛】[高分句型1] Never in my wildest dream did I imagine that I was indeed assigned the intern job to act on a school life show and my first public appearance on TV was in five days. B Colette Maze has been playing the piano for over a century. D Communicating with masters always helps one become better. C Should we allow modern buildings to be built next to older buildings in a historic area of a city? C. To admit how new buildings have ruined their surroundings. D. To argue that modern buildings can be built in historic areas. D Talking out loud to yourself is totally normal — and even beneficial. 12. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
