1. Dear boys and girls, make an effort to avoid ________ some careless mistakes in the test, and you will get a good grade.
A. to make B. making C. make
avoid doing sth.
2. I think the TV show that I’ve paid more attention to ________ really interesting.
A. is B. being C. be
【答案】A
分析句子结构可知,I think后接宾语从句,从句主语为the TV show,“that I’ve paid more attention to”为定语从句修饰主语。
3. — How do you plan for the Sports Day, Miss Li?
— The students ________ can deal with all the preparations for it.
A. we B. ourselves C. themselves
4. —What a good time we had at the party last night!
—Yes. It was ________ exciting party that I would never forget it.
A. so B. such C. such an
so如此;such如此;such an如此一个。根据“exciting party”为“形容词+单数可数名词”,结构为“such a/an + 形容词 + 单数名词”,且exciting以元音音素开头,用an。应填such an。
5. —May I leave now?
—Sorry, you can’t leave until all the work _________.
A. finish B. is finished C. will be finished
6. The Yangtze River is the longest in Asia, which is about ________ long.
A. 6397 kilometers’ B. 6397-kilometer C. 6397 kilometers
7. —There are forty students in our class. And ________ of us are boys.
—Wow! You have only ten girls.
A. one third B. two fifths C. three quarters
one third三分之一;two fifths五分之二;three quarters四分之三。根据“There are forty students”和“You have only ten girls”可知,班级总人数为40人,女生10人,则男生为30人。
8. —I wonder ________, so I will follow him to his office to listen to what they may talk about.
—They must worry about your studying condition and try to help you.
A. if Mr. Brown will have a talk with my mother
B. why Mr. Brown will have a talk with my mother
C. when Mr. Brown will have a talk with my mother
根据“so I will follow him to his office to listen to what they may talk about.”
9. —Your grandparents ________ Sanya.
—Sure, they will stay there for several months.
A. have gone to B. have been to C. were in
【答案】A
have gone to表示去了某地尚未回来,have been to表示去过某地已经回来。根据答语“they will stay there for several months”可知,祖父母现在不在说话现场,而是已经前往三亚且未回来,符合have gone to的用法。
10. —These days some of my classmates are busy with their schoolwork and don’t know what to do in their free time.
—You can advise them to ______ a new hobby to get relaxed.
A. set up B. put up C. take up
set up建立;put up张贴;take up开始从事。

Mom’s three kisses helped Emma ____12____ the main challenges she would meet in school. She headed for her math class. In the math class, she met a difficult math problem. 【
根据后文“The second kiss reminded her to be kind”可知,第二个吻对应的是“kind”,故填kind。
deal with意为“处理、应对”;look for“寻找”不合逻辑;give up“放弃”与文意相反。
下文她帮助女孩“get to know the new school”,说明女孩是新来的。
day与下文“tomorrow morning”呼应;morning太具体;time侧重时刻,不如day自然。

Bell used to work as a children’s bookseller and helped young people of all ages find their perfect books. During lunch breaks, she wrote her first book, which came out in 2016. Then she published (出版) a series of magic books.
In the 2024 book, we meet a boy. He is taken into a secret world filled with strange animals with magic. He soon discovers he can call out those animals by using his energy connected with different feelings. The idea behind the book came from Bell’s strong wish to learn more about the mysteries of science. Bell says, “Even though the book has magic, it is rooted in science.”
Bell’s favorite subject at school was science, and she has always believed that magic has a lot to do with science. “People study science. It is full of mystery and the unknown. That feels a lot like magic,” she says.
In the 2025 book, we join the boy again as he learns how to improve his skills to call out the animals at a school. Bell says that if she could choose any animal to call out, it would be an “everwing”, which is born from hope. “I can fly, on its back! Hope and imagination have great power. They give me wings to realize my dream.”
Bell says science also comes from human curiosity (好奇心) and imagination, which are similar to the hope that creates magic in the story. She hopes her books can encourage young readers to learn more about science.

All around the world, buildings are going green! People are making green buildings. What does it mean to make a green building? A green building is designed (设计) in a way that is not harmful to the environment. The building uses energy, water, and other materials in ways that are good for the environment.
When planning green buildings, architects (建筑师) must think about how to use energy, water, and materials in an environment-friendly way. There are many ways to save energy. Architects can design buildings to use natural light. Buildings can also be made with solar or wind power to get energy from the sun or the wind. To save water, green buildings can have areas on the roofs to collect rainwater. Kitchens and bathrooms can have sinks (水槽) and toilets (马桶) that conserve water. As for the materials used to build the buildings, it is important to use materials that do not have chemicals that are harmful to the air or water. Recycled materials can also be used for buildings.
Buildings around the world use all three of these ways to go green. An office building called CH2 in Melbourne, Australia, uses wind and solar power. A cultural centre in London, England, is made from recycled train cars and is powered by solar and wind power. The Academy of Sciences building in California in the US has recycled materials, solar energy, and a huge “living roof” of plants. A temple in Thailand is made out of one million recycled glass bottles! This is a good use of recycled material, and it also lets natural light into the temple.
More and more green buildings are being built and they are making the world a better place.

hope to do sth.

In the 2024 book, we meet a boy. He is taken into a secret world filled with strange animals with magic.
