Passage 1
阅读下面短文,根据短文内容回答问题,每题答案不超过6个单词。
Last month, our class held a special “book drifting” activity. All the students in our class took part in it, and we all had a wonderful time.
The activity was held by our English teacher, Ms Li. She wanted to encourage us to read more books and share good books with our classmates. Before the activity, every student prepared a book they liked. We wrote a short introduction of the book on a card, and also wrote down our own feelings about it. We put the card inside the book, and brought it to the classroom.
On the day of the activity, we put all the books on the desks in the classroom. The classroom became a small “book fair”. Each student could walk around and choose any book they liked. When you chose a book, you could take it home to read for two weeks. After you finished reading it, you needed to write down your own opinion on the card, and bring it back to “drift” to another classmate.
I chose a book called Wonder for the activity. It’s a warm story about a boy with a facial problem. I read the book in one week, and I was deeply touched by the story. I wrote down my feelings on the card, and I hoped the next reader would love the book too.
This activity was really meaningful. It not only helped us read more good books, but also made us closer to our classmates. We learned to share and care for others through this activity.

Passage 2
In-Person Travel vs Online Travel: Which Do You Prefer?
Today, people have two main ways to explore the world: in-person travel and online travel. Both allow you to discover new places, but they offer very different experiences.
In-person travel means visiting places in real life. You can walk through historic streets, taste local food, and talk to local people. For example, if you visit the ancient town of Wuzhen, you can touch the stone bridges and feel the river breeze. This kind of travel usually requires time and money—you may need to book transport and accommodation. However, it provides real experiences and lasting memories.
Online travel, on the other hand, is done through the internet. With virtual tours, you can “walk” through the Forbidden City or “visit” the Louvre Museum from your home. It is low-cost and convenient—no packing, no waiting in lines. But you cannot smell the flowers or taste the local dishes.
Many students have different preferences. Zhang Wei, a 14-year-old, enjoys in-person travel. “Last summer, I went to Chengdu. I tried hotpot and saw pandas. It was much better than watching videos,” he said. His classmate Liu Mei prefers online travel. “After I finish my homework, I can easily ‘visit’ a museum in just a few minutes. It helps me learn about the world even when I’m busy,” she explained.
Whether you choose in-person or online travel, the most important thing is to stay curious and enjoy the journey of discovery.

“Tea is not just a drink—it’s a way to connect with people and with nature.” This idea comes from Amina, a student from Morocco. She has been studying at Zhejiang University for two years and has developed a deep love for Chinese tea culture.
During her stay in China, Amina often visits tea houses in Hangzhou. She says her interest in tea began with her curiosity about Chinese traditions. “I wanted to understand Chinese people better, and tea became the bridge,” she said.

In China, Amina has learned about different kinds of tea, such as Longjing tea and oolong tea. She enjoys watching tea ceremonies and learning the proper way to brew tea.
“In China, drinking tea is often a quiet moment to relax. In Morocco, it is more social—we drink tea with family and friends while talking,” she said. “Both are beautiful in their own way.”

Passage 4
How long does it take you to get to school ? For many students who study at Hong Kong schools but live in Shenzhen, their travel time is now less than one hour thanks to the building of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA, 粤港澳大湾区).
Zeng Mingyu is an 8-year-old student at SKH Wing Chun Primary School in Hong Kong. Every morning at 6:40, Zeng and his mother leave home and arrive at Liantang Port in Shenzhen by 6:50 on their electric bicycle. Using a special smaller counter for kids, Zeng usually spends about 20 minutes walking through the port. The school bus picks up cross-boundary (跨境) students at 7:20 and usually gets them to school before 7:40.
Thirteen-year-old student Mi Yu at Delia Memorial School (Hip Wo) has an even shorter boundary crossing time thanks to the E-Channel service on the Hong Kong side. Mi scans her non-permanent resident Hong Kong identity card at Luohu Port and the gate opens right after checking. This faster process allows her to pass through the port in just a few minutes during fast-moving situations.
Liantang Port opens at 7:00 in the morning and Luohu Port opens at 6:30 for the public. But they both open a bit earlier for cross-boundary students to make sure they are the first to come in.They don’t have to get their backpacks checked either.
As well as getting to school by walking through the boundary, a “one-hour living circle” in GBA has now been realized. With the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and the high-speed rail, people can do things in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao on the same day.
“Whether it’s the easy payment tools, the transportation, or the helpful policies (政策) of both governments, we feel that living across boundaries is not difficult at all,” said Zeng’s mother.

Passage 5
Teamwork is really important for any class or team to achieve its goals and purposes. Let me give you some reasons why teamwork is so advantageous.
As individuals (个体), we each have different talents, strengths, weaknesses and experiences. A team is like a tapestry that weaves (编织) what each of us owns, coming up with a final product with different colours or patterns, but fantastic. As team members exchange thoughts and experiences, there can be more efficiency (效率) at problem-solving. This sharing of talents can also lead to greater creation and success. Take Leicester City (莱斯特城足球俱乐部) for example, it won the Premier League in 2016 to the surprise of many soccer fans. Leicester City was often considered the loser. But it showed perfect teamwork that led to its final victory in soccer history.
Next, teamwork helps to increase efficiency and productivity as members share the workload. When work is divided, each of us in a team shows our own advantages in specific tasks. Teamwork reduces stress and makes it possible to complete tasks on time. So we can expect greater job satisfaction.
And finally, working in a team may help increase learning chances for the members involved. Team members learn from more experienced members who can offer deeper views. And newer members may also provide the latest ideas. Besides encouraging the sharing of knowledge and experiences, teamwork also develops skills like communication and interpersonal skills. We learn to respect differences in working styles and opinions, and develop trust when working with others.
In spite of (尽管) some advantages in teamwork, some more talented people still think working alone means being the star of a project, and there’s no need to share the success or pride with others, even though with a little more time. But the loss of working together may also prevent the team from reaching its fullest potential.

Reading a good book is a wonderful journey because the reader can live in someone else’s world for a while. Reading together with a partner is called buddy reading. It will make this journey even greater. During the journey, the buddies spend a lot of time reading together. This not only adds to the joy of reading, but also deepens their understanding of the books.
Although it is all right to have students join in buddy reading with the same-aged schoolmates, schools usually pair up buddies by having older students read together with younger ones. Each pair should read together for two years. In Green School, the reading activity has been a great success. Up to now, the reading activity has lasted for five years in this school.
Both younger and older readers in this school learned a lot from this activity. For example, when they listened to each other, they learned to be kind and careful. This activity also provided them with a chance to practise skills such as getting on well with others.
The school also benefited from the reading activity—the students became closer than before. The reading buddies got closer as they often met each other. The students were always excited when they saw their buddies pass by in the school hallway.

“Be careful, Huck.” Jim said ,“The people in St. Petersburg know you and they think that you’re dead. Why don’t you put on the dress and pretend (假装) to be a girl?”
So I did as Jim said.
I took the canoe to the town. Very soon, I met a woman and she told me that someone would catch a runaway.
This wasn’t good news for Jim. I hurried back to the cave to tell him.
We set off down the river for the town of Cairo. In order to protect Jim, we preferred to travel at night rather than travel in the day. What’s more, we covered the raft with leaves and branches during the day.
We never got to Cairo. So we continued drifting down the river because the raft couldn’t sail back up the river against the current. We had a few adventures on the way, but nobody caught us. Our life on the raft was very pleasant and I was enjoying myself. During the day we made a camp under the trees and slept. As soon as it got dark, we set off again. After dinner, we swam in the moonlight or lay on our backs, looking at the stars.
Then one morning something happened and our lives changed.
I was paddling up a side river to look for berries for breakfast when two men suddenly ran out of the woods.
“Help! Some men want to kill us!” they shouted.
I felt sorry for them. I told them to get onto the raft and we paddled back to the camp. They were both wearing dirty old clothes, but they called themselves a Duke and the King. I didn’t believe them. I knew immediately that they were frauds (骗子), but I didn’t say anything.

Passage 10
In the early days of history, being a good neighbor was very important. Neighbors helped one another build houses, and clear fields. Families depended on one another for friendship and entertainment.
But today in our cities and suburbs, friendly relationship between neighbors is not common. A family may not even know the other families that live next door to them. We live in an age of machines, and each family may have its own car, TV set, and washing machine. People no longer depend on neighbors as much as they once did. Machines keep people apart in other ways. In our grandparents’ time, women met while they hung out the washing, and men stopped and talked while they mowed the lawns. Today, they cannot hear anything above the noise of their power lawn mowers. And women stay inside with their electrical dryers, which help dry their clothes. Children are inside watching their favorite TV shows. Is the idea of being a good neighbor old-fashioned?
In 1965, a power cut hit New York City, and many thousands of people were left helpless. Suddenly, everyone shared the same problem, and the largest city became a group of eight million neighbors. People with cars offered rides to those walking. Other people helped direct traffic. In elevators, people played word games and helped cheer each other up.
In times of trouble, people still depend on one another. As time goes on, people may once again feel that being a good neighbor is important.
1. What did neighbours do to help each other in the early days of history?
2. Why do people no longer depend on neighbors as much as they once did?
3. What do women use their electrical dryers to do?

Passage 11
In-person travel vs online travel:
Which do you prefer?
In today’s world, people have two popular ways to explore the world: in-person travel and online travel. Both let you discover new places, but they are quite different.
In-person travel means visiting places in person. You can walk on historic streets, smell local snacks, and talk to local people. For example, if you go to Suzhou’s gardens, you can touch the stone bridges and feel the cool wind from the lakes. It usually takes time and money; you might need to book trains or hotels. But it gives you real feelings and memories you can keep forever.
Online travel, however, is done through the internet. You can use apps or websites to take virtual (虚拟) tours. With just a click, you can “walk” around the Forbidden City in Beijing or “visit” the Eiffel Tower in Paris at home. It’s cheap and easy—you don’t need to pack bags or wait in lines. But you can’t feel the sun on your face or taste the delicious food there.
Many students like both ways. Zhang Wei, an eighth-grader, loves in-person travel. “Last year, I went to Yangzhou. I tried Yangzhou fried rice and talked to an old craftsman. It’s nothing like looking at pictures online,” he said. But his classmate Liu Mei enjoys online travel more. “I can easily ‘visit’ many museums right after finishing homework. It helps me learn about the world when I’m busy,” she explained.
Whether you choose in-person travel or online travel, the most important thing is to open your eyes and enjoy the journey of discovery.

Passage 12
Karlsson, a Swedish teacher at Beijing Union University (BUU), has lived in China for over 15 years. The seeds of his China journey were sown when he joined in a programme for East Asian studies at Lund University in Sweden in 1997. Back then, cellphones and the Internet hadn’t yet come into wide use. Learning Chinese meant using textbooks, heavy dictionaries and audio tapes. He would read the dictionary carefully for hours to understand a one-page Chinese article.
“In those days, it was a real challenge,” he said.

Today, thanks to high-speed broadband and 5G, he can connect with students at BUU’s partner universities in Russia, Montenegro or Mexico while riding on the Beijing subway.
“When you open your eyes to these great projects, it is impossible not to want to be part of them or at least support them somehow,” he said.
Although he was busy on teaching days, Karlsson applied for a full-time scholarship at the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing. In 2022, at 44 years old, he got his Ph. D.in economics. “I am quite interested in blockchain technology, and I know that China is quickly becoming the leader in blockchain applications outside the cryptocurrency space. So, I always write my articles in this area,” he said.

1. Who held the “book drifting” activity?
2. What did students write on the card?
3. How long could students keep the book?
4. Which book did the writer choose?
5. What did the writer think of the activity?
1. What does in-person travel mean according to the passage?
2. How can people take virtual tours?
3. Why does Liu Mei prefer online travel?
4. What is the most important thing no matter which kind of travel people choose?
5. What is one advantage of online travel mentioned in the passage?
Passage 3
“Tea is not just a drink—it’s a way to connect with people and with nature.” This idea comes from Amina, a student from Morocco. She has been studying at Zhejiang University for two years and has developed a deep love for Chinese tea culture.
During her stay in China, Amina often visits tea houses in Hangzhou. She says her interest in tea began with her curiosity about Chinese traditions. “I wanted to understand Chinese people better, and tea became the bridge,” she said.
Morocco also has a strong tea culture. In Morocco, people usually drink green tea with mint and sugar. It is served with great hospitality (好客).
For Amina, tea is a reflection of life. “Sometimes life is like a cup of tea—it may seem bitter at first, but if you wait, the sweetness will come.”
1. Who is Amina according to the passage?
2. Why does Amina like Chinese tea culture?
3. How long has Amina been in China?
4. How do people usually drink tea in Morocco?
5. What does Amina think tea reflects?
1. Which city does Zeng Mingyu live in?
2. How far is Liantang Port from Zeng Mingyu’s home?
3. What makes Mi Yu’s boundary crossing time shorter?
4. What is the benefit (益处) of the “one-hour living circle”?
5. What does Zeng’s mother think of living across boundaries nowadays?
1. How many advantages does the writer talk about in the passage?
2. What helped Leicester City achieve its final victory in 2016?
3. Why can teamwork make it possible to complete tasks on time?
4. What can experienced members learn from newer members?
5. Would you like to work with others in the future? Why?

If you lose 12 times in a row (连续地), will you just give up? Dale Carnegie, a pioneer in public speaking and self-development, kept trying. And he showed people how to be successful.
Carnegie was born into a poor family in the United States. The boy didn’t see a train until he was 12 years old. In his teens, he had to get up at 3 a.m. every day to milk cows for his family.

Carnegie tried to be more active in college. He joined the debate (辩论) team. But one after another, he lost 12 competitions. The young man was very disappointed with himself. But soon Carnegie was seen practicing public speaking on the riverside. His hard work paid off at last.
Now the spring vacation is coming. It’s a great time to get into books. Since buddy reading is useful and helpful, why not pair up with a friend, choose a book you both like and read it together?
1. What is buddy reading?
2. How do schools usually pair up buddies?
3. How long has the reading activity in Green School lasted?
4. What benefit did the school get from the reading activity?

Passage 9
阅读下面短文,然后根据短文内容回答问题。 (每题答案不超过10词。)
The days passed and the river went down.
“I think I’ll go to the town and get some news.” I told Jim one morning.
1. How did Huck go to the town?
2. Why did Huck and Jim travel at night?
3. How did they like their life on the raft drifting down the river?
4. How did Huck know that the two men were frauds?
5. What do you think of Huck in the passage?
4. How did New Yorkers feel during the power cut in 1965?
5. What do you think of being a good neighbor? Why?
根据语篇内容,按要求回答问题。
1. What does in-person travel mean according to the passage?
2. How can people take virtual tours?
3. Why does Liu Mei like online travel?
4. What is the most important thing about the two ways of travelling?
