The easy rule of Wordle attracts a wide users. Wordle challenges people to find a five-letter word in six guesses. After each guess, the letters turn into different colours. Green means it’s the right letter and it’s in the right place. Yellow means the letter is in the word but in the wrong place. Grey means the letter is not in the word at all. Everyone plays only one word a day, so players are excited to solve it. If they manage to guess in the first or second try, they can’t wait to show their results on Twitter. Wordle has suddenly become a huge part of people’s lives. That’s why wordle has been sold to the New York Times for more than a million dollars.
Here are some tips for you to win in fewer guesses. For your first guess, it’s a good way to pick a word that contains at least two vowels with popular consonants r, t and s. If you have a yellow k in the second place of your first guess, you might try placing it in the fifth place instead many five-letter word end with ck. It is also helpful to think of letters often appearing in sets of two or three, like tr/ai/ing. Don’t reuse grey letters and don’t forget letters can appear twice.
Wordle attracts lots of players since it is such a simple game. But will players keep being crazy about it in the future? Let’s wait and see.
27.Wordle is a game ________.
A.that should be downloaded first
B.where players can guess two words daily
C.that doesn’t require any payment
D.where players need to guess a six-letter word
28.According to the passage, how can you guess the right word with fewer tries?
A.Try letters that commonly appear together in words.
B.Consider the most common locations of the grey letters.
C.Start with a word having as many consonants as possible.
D.Avoid reusing green letters you’ve guessed out in the first try.
29.Which word might be right if R is green in the second place and E is yellow in the third place?
A.DRESS B.DREAM C.DRIVE D.DANCE
D
On October 25th, 2018, Christie's (佳士得拍卖行) had a very unusual sale. It sold the first piece of artwork created by artificial intelligence for $432,500.
The painting was created by an AI program written by Obvious, an AI research studio in Paris. Soon questions rang through the media: Is this art? Who is the artist? How about the owner? Are machines now creative, too?
All good questions—but too early. The technology is far from advanced (高级的), as Obvious suggested, because the public is completely confused about what AI is, and what it is able to do.
In fact, the painting was just one of the countless artworks AI could produce. It was the team behind Obvious that chose this one. The team first programmed the AI, and then they chose 15,000 paintings to train the software (软件). Connecting the painting with the algorithm (计算程序) was just a clever marketing tool. AI did not produce the painting on its own at all.
Lots of artists are using the same software as Obvious, but none of them are worried about losing jobs because of AI. As they build the machine themselves and work with it every day, they know how limited it is. What interests the artists is to create works together: the way AI lets them go beyond their natural ability.
Artists also laugh at the idea that AI is creative. It certainly creates things, sometimes in new and successful ways, but it does so without a purpose. It is the artist who shapes its output. "You make a fire and it produces interesting shapes, but in the end the fire is not creative. AI is a glorified (被美化的) campfire," said one of the pioneers of using AI in art.
30.The underlined word "confused" in Paragraph 3 probably means _________.
A.easy to understand B.angry
C.unable to think clearly D.certain
31.Paragraph 4 mainly talks about ________.
A.what the painting was created for
B.how AI learned to paint
C.why the painting was connected with the algorithm
D.why the painting was not created by AI alone
32.According to the article, the AI technology makes artists able to __________.
A.paint on the computers B.come up with new ideas
C.improve their painting skills D.save time and money
33.We can learn from the article that the AI technology __________.
A.can produce countless artworks B.requires no programming
C.can think for itself D.makes artists lose jobs

Technology Keeps Grandparents and Grandchildren Connected
When it comes to keeping in touch with grandchildren, grandparents need to learn new technologies. They are taking advantage of choices like video chatting, text messaging and social media (社交网络媒介) to keep in touch with their grandchildren in more ways than ever before, according to a survey.
Mary Taylor is a typical case. She depends on video chatting to stay in touch with her grandchildren, all of whom are under the age of seven. They live in different countries. Mary says video chatting is the next best thing to being with her grandchildren even though it requires planning to schedule calls and taking the time differences into account (考虑到). “It’s not always perfect,” she says, “but it’s certainly better than talking on the phone, especially with kids at those ages.”
According to the survey, more than 20% of grandparents use video chatting to communicate, which is a little less than the number of those who often use text messaging but more than those who prefer to use social media.
But with a number of choices out there, keeping up with new technologies can be a challenge for them. 74-year-old Mary Carr-McNally says she calls her grandchildren back when they text her. “I’m not very good at texting, so I call them back, and then we chat,” she says.
In all, more than 30% of them say that learning new technologies is difficult. That’s why phone calls remain the most popular form of communication for grandparents, nearly half of whom say they talk with their grandchildren by phone.
Still, more than 40% of grandparents say they’re good at learning new technologies. Take Alice Smith for example. She owns a laptop, a tablet and a smartphone, and uses them to keep in touch with her five grandchildren aged 4 to 16. She says she likes to text the older three and depends on video chatting with the younger ones.
“Texting is quick and simple. But we can do a lot of things on video chatting,” she says. “If the kids want to see something, I walk around and show them. Video chatting also allows me to see my loved one’s facial expressions as we speak and does not require typing (打字) or reading small print. It’s the next best thing to meeting someone face-to-face.”
34.How does Mary Taylor stay in touch with her grandchildren?
35.Why do phone calls remain the most popular form of communication for grandparents?
36.What does Alice Smith think of texting?
37.In your opinion, which is the best way for grandparents to keep in touch with their grandchildren? Why? (List at least two reasons)

【答案】
34.She depends on video chatting to stay in touch with her grandchildren.
35.Because learning new technologies is difficult for them.
36.Texting is quick and simple.
37.I think the best way is video chatting. Because it can not only allow grandparents to see their loved ones’ facial expressions, but also let grandparents walk around to show something for their grandparents.(答案合理即可)
34.根据“Mary Taylor is a typical case. She depends on video chatting to stay in touch with her grandchildren”可知,她依靠视频聊天与孙辈们保持联系,故填She depends on video chatting to stay in touch with her grandchildren.
35.根据“In all, more than 30% of them say that learning new technologies is difficult. That’s why phone calls remain the most popular form of communication for grandparents”可知,因为学习新科技对他们来说很困难,故填Because learning new technologies is difficult for them.
36.根据“Take Alice Smith for example…Texting is quick and simple”可知,发短信既快捷又简单,故填Texting is quick and simple.
37.开放性题,答案合理即可。参考答案为I think the best way is video chatting. Because it can not only allow grandparents to see their loved ones’ facial expressions, but also let grandparents walk around to show something for their grandparents.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________【答案】
Small Actions, Big Changes
The old saying, “Actions speak louder than words.” teaches us that doing is more important than just talking.
Last term, I wanted to improve my English grades but I didn’t succeed. Instead of complaining, I made a plan: reviewing notes daily, practicing speaking for 10 minutes each morning, and asking teachers questions whenever I had problems. At first, progress was slow, but I didn’t give up. Finally, my efforts paid off—I became one of the top students in English in the end!
This experience taught me that even small actions can lead to big changes. Now I believe: start doing, and big surprises will follow.
