Continue a story about a flood
It had been raining non-stop for three days.
地点
In their house
人物
Mary, Mum, Dad
情节
The city Mary and her parents lived in was flooded. They were trapped at home, not sure what to do.
Mary looked through the windows at the endless rain. (nervous)→Mary wanted to leave the house but her parents refused. (scared)→Mary walked to the door to see how much water there was outside. (curious) →Her parents stopped her and tried to comfort her. (worried)
第一段中的“the endless rain” “had been raining non-stop for three days”及最后一段中“make the wind and rain more frightening”预示着外面的情况很糟糕,且接下来雨势会增强,续写时应有对这一方面的描写以及由此带来的危险或困难。
第一段中的“were downstairs in the living room”及“Dad was listening to a weather report on the radio, while Mum was putting their important documents and disaster supplies into a bag.”提示了续写逃生情节时会用到的三个关键词“downstairs(洪水中为了安全会去楼上)”“radio(可以接收外界信息)”及“disaster supplies(在灾难中受困时的依仗)”。
倒数第二段中提到“Dad moved the dinner table against the door, in case the floodwater forced the door open”,续写中可呼应此处描写洪水破门而入的场面,凸显场景的紧急状态,将情节推向高潮。
本文中的“the endless rain outside” “It had been raining non-stop for three days.”描写了大雨持续不停的场景,给整篇文章奠定了紧张不安的基调;“The wind roared and the rain beat on the roof and windows.”则进一步突出了环境的恶劣,加深了这种不安的氛围;“The sudden silence in the house seemed to make the wind and rain more frightening outside.”
在“Without saying a single word, Dad walked to the sofa, sat down and hugged his wife and daughter.”
文中的“It was making her nervous.”写出了Mary的紧张不安;“She was curious to see how much water there was outside.”中的be curious则描写了她对暴雨具体情况的好奇;“Her voice was calm, but Mary could tell she was worried too.”

②Mary was scared,_and her parents tried to keep calm.
2.What would they do? How did they feel? And what happened?(结合伏笔3设计情节)
③They tried to contact somebody, who had_a_big_vehicle. And they also asked the police for help.
④When they were packing their_important_documents_and_disaster_supplies,_they heard the sound of fire trucks. Outside their house were some_firefighters_and_a_truck.
3.What was the result?
⑤The truck drove Mary_and_her_parents_to_a_shelter_nearby. They lost_most_of_their_properties but they were all happy to be alive.

All of a sudden, the floodwater forced the door open. Shocked, frightened and extremely scared, Mary saw the floodwaters pouring into the room, leaving the dinner table upside down. “Mum, Dad, we should leave here at once!” she cried. “No, honey, it's of great danger to go out under such situation. Don't worry! Everything will be OK. Now we need to go upstairs and wait there until the rescue comes.” Dad said calmly, and rushed to carry the bag containing important documents and disaster supplies. Mom held Mary's hand tightly and quickly headed up the stairs.
1.Encountering a tornado
Although I didn't dare to look, I could feel the tornado getting closer as hail started to fall, hitting the old boat hard. Chased by the terrible nightmare, I couldn't afford to let up for a moment. I didn't even wipe the sweat away as it streamed in my eyes and blurred my view. Finally, Grandma's house appeared before my eyes. We jumped out of the boat and ran towards it. Being complete breathless, we buzzed the doorbell again and again. Grandma opened the door for us, and we followed her into the basement. We stayed down there, waiting for the tornado to pass over us.
2.Encountering a hurricane
We spent the early part of that evening watching the hurricane draw closer on the Weather Channel. Around nine o'clock, a loud sound shook the house, turned over the roof and carried it off. Soon came an indoor rainstorm. I had never felt so scared. My little brother began to cry and my mother held him tightly. We spent a terrible night in the heavy rain and wind. The next morning, it started to clear up. Thankfully, my family came safely through the storm, though the same could not be said for the house.
3.Encountering a flood
As I fell asleep, I was awakened by the sound of rushing water. When I swung my legs off the bed, I was shocked to feel cold water already up to my knees and rising fast. Trembling, I grabbed my phone on the table and switched on the flashlight. Water was coming from the garden door. The nearby river must have violently burst its banks. And now I had to get out — fast! With the water up to my waist, in bare feet I started to paddle to my only escape — the door leading to the outdoors.
