A Dear Mother and Dad, My roommate, Syd, may be a problem. He's so careless. He whistles (吹口哨) real loud through this gap in his front teeth, too.Plus, he knocked over our lamp and broke it.Syd also wears a funny blue hat for good luck, but I don't think it's working. Love, Bryan Dear Mom and Pop, My roommate, Bryan, seems kind of jumpy, like our cat when you turn on the cleaner. He hung up a big poster of all the constellations (星座), so maybe he'll teach me how to find them.I'm sure we'll be best friends.Guess what? Our camp got a new lamp. Love, Syd Dear Mother and Dad, Syd invites trouble like my giant magnets attract paper clips. We went for a hike, and Syd stepped on a wasps' (黄蜂) nest. The wasps were not happy. He raced down the path, and the rest of us ran the other way.Poor Syd got stung (蛰) twice on his face. Now he has huge chipmunk cheeks.Of course, he can still whistle, but I don't mind anymore. Love, Bryan Dear Mom and Pop, I plan to join the cross-country team.Today I ran half a mile in about three minutes. The wasps running after me probably helped a little.Did you know that some wasps make their nests on the ground? Dad, will you help me train for cross-country when I get home? PS: I heard Bryan whistling along with me yesterday.Last night, he showed me the Big Dipper constellation. Then we made up a new constellation and named it Wasper. We laughed our heads off. 1.Why do Syd and Bryan write letters? A.To update their parents. B.To show the importance of making friends. C.To share with their friends camp memories. D.To invite their parents to the camping activities. 2.What do we know about the two boys? A.They knocked over a new lamp. B.They got seriously hurt by the wasps. C.They argued when they first met at the camp. D.They enjoyed themselves studying constellations. 根据最后一封信中“Last night ... we laughed our heads off.” 3.What will Bryan probably write about in the next letter? A.How much he wants to go back home. B.How excited he is to find the wasps' nest. C.How happy he is to whistle together with Syd. D.How much he desires to train for cross-country. 根据第三封信中“Of course, he can still whistle, but I don't mind anymore.”和第四封信中“I heard Bryan whistling along with me yesterday.” B Many of us hold on to little complaints that may have come from an argument, a misunderstanding, the way we were raised, or some other painful events. Stubbornly, we wait for someone else to reach out to us — believing this is the only way we can forgive or rekindle a friendship or family relationship. A friend of mine recently told me that she hadn't spoken to her son in almost three years. She said that she and her son had had a disagreement about his wife and that she wouldn't speak to him again unless he called first. When I suggested that she be the one to reach out, she said, “I can't do that. He's the one who should apologize.” After a little gentle encouragement, however, she did decide to be the first one to reach out. To her amazement, her son was grateful for her willingness to call and offered an apology of his own. As is usually the case, when someone takes the chance and reaches out, everyone wins. Whenever we hold on to our anger, we turn “small stuff (问题)” into really “big stuff” in our minds. We start to believe that our positions are more important than our happiness. They are not. If you want to be a more peaceful person, you must understand that being right is almost never more important than allowing yourself to be happy. The way to be happy is to let go, and reach out. Let other people be right. This doesn't mean that you're wrong. Everything will be fine. You'll experience the peace of letting go, as well as the joy of letting others be right. You'll also notice that, as you reach out and let others be “right”, they will become less defensive and more loving toward you. They might even reach back. But, if for some reason they don't, that's okay too. You'll have the inner satisfaction of knowing that you have done your part to create a more loving world, and certainly you'll be more peaceful yourself. 4.What does the underlined word “rekindle” in paragraph 1 probably mean? A.Develop. B.Recover. C.Accept. D.Establish. 根据画线词所在句“Stubbornly, we wait for someone else to reach out to us — believing this is the only way we can forgive or rekindle a friendship or family relationship.” B。 5.According to the author, why do we often hold on to our anger? A.Because our own opinions matter most. B.Because others will be less defensive. C.Because our positions are higher than others. D.Because we can turn small issues into big ones. 根据第三段中“Whenever we hold on to our anger, we turn ‘small stuff (问题)’ into really ‘big stuff’ in our minds. We start to believe that our positions are more important than our happiness.” A。 6.What is the best thing to do after a quarrel? A.Let go of our own rights. B.Realize you're wrong. C.Expect others to give in. D.Contact others first. 根据第二段中的故事和最后一段中“You'll also notice that, as you reach out and let others be ‘right’, they will become less defensive and more loving toward you.” D。 7.What is the main idea of the text? A.We should keep peaceful when facing small stuff. B.We should tell apart big and small stuff in our daily lives. C.Reaching out and apologizing wins one peace and happiness. D.It's necessary for us to value our friendships and family relationships. Living Well with Others A good life is one that is beneficial to living well with others, while living comfortably and honestly. However, not everyone can deal with the relationship well with others. They're looking to explore new ways to make their life better.__8__ ·Smile at those around you. It's often been said that a smile is catching.__9__ Studies suggest that friendly engagement (交往) with others improves happiness levels, at least in part.People are more likely to treat a smiling person better than a non-smiling person. ·Help others.Studies have shown that helping others has a direct relation to individual happiness.__10__ Volunteering to help others has been connected to better quality of life. ·__11__ The golden rule is still the most important rule for getting along with others.Think of how you would like your friends to act around you.If you treat people with love and respect, they will treat you with the same. ·Value your friendships with others. The quality of a person's friendship has a direct effect upon their well-being.Friends can increase a sense of your sense of belonging and purpose.__12__ A.Research suggests that's true.
