Ancient Chinese people invented 24 Solar Terms (节气). Among them, “Rain Water” is the second term. When “Rain Water” arrives, it brings life to all things.
This is a wonderful time for nature. Birds migrate (迁徙) back to the north, ducks float on the water and plants grow new buds (芽). The seasonal calendar guides farmers on when to plant for the best harvest (收获). After a cold winter, “Rain Water” tells the farmers that it’s the perfect time to start planting. The poem Welcome Rain on Spring Night written by famous Chinese poet Du Fu of the Tang Dynasty describes a typical scene of spring rain.
Welcome Rain on Spring Night
Good rain knows its time right; It will fall when comes spring.
With wind it steals in night; Mute, it moistens each thing.
O’ er wild lanes dark cloud spreads; In boat a lantern looms.
Dawn sees saturated reds; The town’s heavy with blooms.
In this poem, the poet describes that the spring rain knows exactly when to fall. It comes silently at night and makes everything wet without a sound. The open fields are covered with dark clouds, and only a lantern on a boat can be seen in the distance. When dawn (黎明) comes, the flowers are so wet and heavy with raindrops that the whole town seems to be blooming with beauty.

Liangping Woodblock New Year Pictures (梁平木版年画), a famous folk art from Chongqing, has a history of over 500 years. In 2006, it was listed in China Intangible Cultural Heritage (国家非物质文化遗产). Now this art form has become a vivid symbol of Chinese Spring Festival culture.
There are three main themes of Liangping Woodblock New Year Pictures. The first is door gods, like General Men, which people believe can protect their homes. The second includes fairy tales and stories, such as The Mouse’s Wedding, which express wishes for a better life. Then, they use special knives to carve the design (设计) into the wood, creating a stamp (印版). Each color needs a separate stamp. Next, soft paper is pressed onto the inked stamps. The final and most special step is called “opening the face”, where the artist paints eyes, eyebrows, and pink cheeks on the characters, making them look vivid and full of joy.
As the Spring Festival arrives each year, these lively pictures carry the warmth of family reunions and the hope for a brighter future. Through these paintings, the joy of the New Year is passed down from generation to generation, connecting the past with the present and filling homes with blessings and love.

It was a summer, but what a summer.
I once had my own vegetable garden. It was my first and also my last because I couldn’t go to the countryside often enough to keep my eyes on it. Anyway, the second summer, the bugs (虫) found us and ate some of the vegetables. I could see the garden needed more care than I could give it, and I stopped.
But the first season was so pleasant. I still remember sitting in that garden— fresh air on my face, quiet all around me. Sometimes I would sing, softly at first, then a little louder. Soon a small group of cows walked over and put their big heads over the fence (栅栏), looking at me gently. Mostly I sat there, picking green beans, boiling them, adding a little butter and salt, and eating them just like that. They were so delicious that I felt like singing again, right there in the quiet garden.
Once I thought life was too short for all my dreams. There were so many choices, and it made me sad that things had to end or I had to choose between them. How could I both live on a farm and travel the world? It seemed that enjoying life fully only meant loss (失落).
▲ These memories are a permanent (永恒的) part of me. I often think back to that wonderful summer and my lovely garden. Little by little, the truth became okay with me: someone who loves many things can’t make all of them permanent. You have to walk away from one thing so you can have another. So, it’s common for us to feel a little lost sometimes.
Then I understood that summer with my fresh vegetables, the hours I spent sitting on the ground, and the unexpected love from the cows—all these filled an empty place in my heart.
And it has never been empty since.
28. What made the author stop planting the vegetable garden?
A. She didn’t have enough time or energy for it. B. The garden was too far away for her to visit.
C. The plants were eaten by insects. D. She was not interested in it.
29. Which of the following is NOT a simple pleasure for the author in her garden time?
A. Enjoying the quiet and fresh air. B. Eating freshly cooked vegetables.
C. Selling vegetables for money. D. Having unexpected animal visitors.
30. Which of the following may be the best to put in “ ▲ ” in Paragraph 5?
A. However, I soon forgot the garden. B. However, nothing was lost.
C. Besides, I felt upset about the dead plants. D. Besides, those days were a waste of time.
31. According to the author, what did the experience of that summer finally bring to her life?
A. The sad feeling of not keeping the garden.
B. The skills to grow vegetables successfully.
C. More free time to enjoy being close to nature later.
D. Permanent memories that filled an empty space inside.

①Can you imagine brushing your teeth with toothpaste made from sheep’s wool? Do you feel uncomfortable or itchy? Please don’t worry. It won’t make you feel that way. Recently, scientists in the UK have come up with a very special kind of toothpaste made from sheep’s wool. The toothpaste might not only clean your teeth, but also repair them.
②Why do our teeth need repair? One of the reasons is that our teeth are very strong, but they can’t fix themselves. The outer layer, called enamel (牙釉质), is the hardest part of the body. But enamel can wear down over time. Sometimes it’s caused by acids in foods and drinks, and other times by a layer of plaque (牙菌斑) that produces acid and slowly breaks the enamel. When enamel is gone, teeth can rot (腐烂) and hurt a lot.
③Another reason is that traditional toothpaste contains fluoride (氟化钠) to help add more minerals to tooth enamel, making it stronger, but it can’t bring back lost enamel and fill in tiny holes in damaged area.
④So, scientists wanted something new and turned to a natural protein called keratin (角蛋白), which is found in hair, skin, nails, and sheep’s wool. Keratin has a structure that can guide minerals to form enamel-like crystals.
⑤To test the idea, scientists took keratin from sheep’s wool and mixed it with saliva (唾液). It pulled in minerals and turned them into a crystal (晶体的) structure very similar to enamel. When it was used on teeth, it fixed the small holes in enamel. One scientist said “It is as strong as natural enamel.”
⑥This new method is safer than traditional dental treatments because it uses only natural ingredients. And the best part? Keratin comes from sources that are often wasted, like human hair, skin, and nails.
⑦The scientists are very interested in the new keratin toothpaste. They believe that in the next two to three years, such special toothpaste could be ready for sale. They have even created a new company to bring the toothpaste to market.
32. How does the writer start the passage?
A. By listing numbers. B. By asking questions.
C. By quoting scientists’ opinions. D. By comparing products.
33. According to the passage, in what situation is the new toothpaste most helpful?
A. A man who brushes teeth only once a day.
B. A teenager whose enamel is worn down by drinking soda.
C. A woman whose teeth have fully gotten rotten.
D. A child who refuses to use any taste of toothpaste.
34. Why does the writer mention “human hair, skin, and nails” in paragraph 6?
A To prove keratin is not easy to get from any material.
B. To explain why sheep’s wool is the best source of keratin.
C. To show the new toothpaste has environmental-friendly material sources.
D. To compare the quality of keratin from different materials.
35. What’s the structure of the passage?
A toothpaste B. toothpaste
C. toothpaste D. toothpaste

The fear of making the wrong decision is also called decidophobia (决策恐惧症). It can influence people even when it comes to the smallest choice. It can keep you stuck in place when you should be moving forward toward new experiences. There are several tips to help you deal with it.
To start with, a good tool for decision-making is the Decision-Making Quadrant (象限). Connected to the decision to be made, list answers to these four questions. For example, if I decide to work hard during the coming winter vacation, I will get good grades and I won’t fail the exam. If I don’t work hard, I won’t get good grades and I won’t pass the exam. Your decisions will almost always be found in your answers above.
Besides, you can do something like eating set meals (套餐) instead of different kinds of foods, wearing uniforms but not choosing from your own clothes, and buying everyday things of the same brands without thinking too much about it. This way, you don’t need to waste much time comparing the differences to make too many decisions.
Finally, not everyone likes to change their daily lives suddenly by making decisions. For example, if you want to do something, setting your final goal is the first step, and the second step is to make a list of what to do every day. At last, just do it as you plan. Things will work out better.
You can make progress in life with these tips. But when decision paralysis (决策瘫痪) has appeared, remember to step outside of yourself for a different view. Think about someone you trust and respect. Ask yourself, “What would he or she do?” and let it be your guide.

Times may have changed, but it’s still usual to see teenagers falling asleep during lessons. Why does this happen? One major reason is simple: many students just don’t get enough sleep.
So, why are teens so short on sleep? Homework plays a big part. For most students, homework can take three to four hours every night. If a teen wants to join club activities, play sports, enjoy computer games, or watch TV, they often have to stay up late to finish everything. Besides, some take on after-school jobs to save money for college, help their families, or buy things they like, which also cuts into their sleep time.
Physical problems can be another cause. Some students have trouble sleeping at night—a problem called insomnia (失眠). This can leave them tired and unable to stay awake in class, and sometimes they may even need to see a doctor.
Sleeping in class can lead to serious problems. First, it’s against school rules and teachers don’t allow it. Also, other students might laugh at those who fall asleep. But the worst result is that sleeping students miss important knowledge. Over time, this can even cause them to fail their subjects.
Since teenagers often find it hard to solve this problem on their own, sleeping in class is likely to remain common. Things will only improve when more teens learn how to balance school, work, and their personal lives. Finding that balance is the key to staying awake and learning well in class.
Summary
It is common for teenagers to fall asleep in class because of different reasons. One main cause is that ____54____, since they have heavy homework and after-school activities. Besides, ____55____ like insomnia can also lead to sleepiness in class. Falling asleep in class brings serious results, the worst is they may ____56____. To solve this problem, ____57____.

C
【答案】28. A 29. C 30. B 31. D
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇记叙文,主要讲述了作者拥有自己菜园的经历,包括第一年菜园带来的愉悦、第二年因虫害放弃,以及这段经历对作者感悟生活的影响。
【28题详解】
第二段指出“It was my first and also my last because I couldn’t go to the countryside often enough to keep my eyes on it”,这直接说明作者没有足够的时间和精力去照料菜园,所以停止种植。
【29题详解】
第三段中指出“fresh air on my face, quiet all around me”体现享受安静和新鲜空气;“eating them just like that. They were so delicious”表明吃新鲜烹饪的蔬菜;“Soon a small group of cows walked over and put their big heads over the fence (栅栏), looking at me gently”说明有意外出现的动物访客,而文中未提及卖蔬菜赚钱。
【30题详解】
第五段开头,前文提到作者曾因生活选择而感到失落,觉得充分享受生活就意味着失去。后文说这些记忆是作者永恒的一部分,且慢慢接受了不能让所有喜爱的事物都永恒的事实。所以“However, nothing was lost.” (然而,什么也没有失去) 放在此处最合适,起到转折并引出后文感悟的作用。
【31题详解】
最后一段指出“Then I understood that summer with my fresh vegetables, the hours I spent sitting on the ground, and the unexpected love from the cows—all these filled an empty place in my heart. And it has never been empty since.”说明那个夏天的经历给作者带来了填满内心空缺的永恒记忆。

33. According to the passage in what situation is the new toothpaste most helpful?
A. To prove keratin is not easy to get from any material.
B. To explain why sheep’s wool is the best source of keratin.
C. To show the new toothpaste has environmental-friendly material sources.
D. To compare the quality of keratin from different materials.
35. What’s the structure of the passage?
A. toothpaste B. toothpaste
C. toothpaste D. toothpaste
【答案】32. B 33. B 34. C 35. C

____________________________________________________________________________________________
42. When do people need to step outside of themselves for a different view?

43. How can people deal with decidophobia?

After graduating, I want to ________________
(1) ________________________ (at least 10 words)
(2) ________________________ (at least 10 words)
