Nature was Chen Rui’s “childhood home”. The 37-year-old researcher at the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Zoology wasn’t able to talk until he was 4 years old. He didn’t have friends around his age, which led him to turn his attention to non-human things around him. He became extremely interested in the world of insects. “The happiest time of my childhood was in the farm fields. I squatted (蹲) there, observing the activities of insects, including ants building their homes and dragonflies flying low. I had so many questions about their activities and was full of curiosity about this world,” says Chen.
The experiences in his childhood planted a seed deep in his heart. Decades later, he’s a scholar who has engaged in life-science investigations in nearly 100 countries and regions on five continents. He has found around 100 new species living and extinct. “I was ‘healed’ by nature,” he says. “I wanted to grow up to share the power of nature with more young people and to popularize understanding of animals. including insects.
He has ever visited the Amazon rainforest several times, trying to discover new species. One insect variety he found was leaf-cutter ants, a species that shows powerful cooperation and farming abilities. He is impressed by their close cooperation. He observed that the ants are divided into different groups that are respectively responsible for cutting leaves, transporting harvested pieces, clearing obstacles out of the way, guarding the colony and taking care of the young. “Several million ants can live in one nest, but their activities are very orderly,” says Chen.
Chen points out that leaf-cutter ants are not the only species to have magical abilities. “If we humans believe we are the smartest beings in the world, we may be limited to this preconception (成见). If we are instead humble and regard all other beings as our teachers, we can gain endless wisdom,” he says.
4. Why did Chen Rui focus his attention on insects in his childhood?
A. He loved playing in the farm fields every day.
B. He wanted to become a researcher in the future.
C. He couldn’t talk and had no friends his own age.
D. His parents asked him to observe insect activities.

Eight hours shovelling snow in -20℃ might not sound like the ideal day out, but a committed team of volunteers in Finland are working dawn to dusk building enormous snow drifts (雪堆) for one of the world’s most endangered seals.
The Saimaa ringed seal was once common around Lake Saimaa in the south-east of Finland, but now only 495 of them remain. In the late 1980s the population of the seals decreased to its lowest point, with fewer than 200 left, driven by hunting and deaths caused by fish traps. Accidental deaths in fishing nets remain a challenge. Now, the seals are fully protected but the threat of the climate emergency is worrying. The seals make “snow caves” inside snow drifts where they raise their young and protect them from the elements and predators such as red foxes, but as the climate warms, the snow is disappearing.
To save these rare seals, 300 volunteers spend days shovelling snow into piles 7m long and 1.5m high around the edge of the frozen lake. “It’s kind of a snow cave,” says Vincent Biard, a PhD student and volunteer from the University of Eastern Finland. “The seals come from under and dig into the snow drifts to create a cave where they can give birth and raise their young.” They get around on foot or skis, dragging their equipment with them over a distance of 10km. Biard describes the day as “kind of fun”, and adds, “you actually have an impact, which is nice. If we don’t do it, then they would just go extinct quite quickly.”
More than 300 pups have been born in artificial snowdrifts since they started making them in 2014. “We are on a rising growth curve, so things still look pretty nice,” says Jari Ilmonen, coordinator of Our Saimaa Seal Life, which is an EU-funded programme. “We are doing what we can, so we have to have hope and positive thoughts.” Human-made snow drifts are larger and “more durable than natural snow drifts”, says Ilmonen. “By the first half of February most of the natural ones had melted away, but the manmade ones stood strong.”
8. What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about?
A. The two functions of snow drifts. B. The threats to the Saimaa ringed seals.
C. The big concern about global warming. D. The full recovery of the seals’ population.
9. Which of the following can best describe the work of the volunteers?
A. Effective but boring. B. Valuable but impractical.
C. Demanding but fulfilling. D. Dangerous but enjoyable.
10. What does Ilmonen say about manmade snow drifts?
A. They can help all marine life survive winters.
B. They are more comfortable than natural ones.
C. They will not melt until the end of the spring.
D. They have seen progress in protecting the seals.
11. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To celebrate an effort to protect wildlife. B. To introduce one of endangered animals.
C. To explain benefits of artificial snowdrifts. D. To raise the awareness of the climate crisis.
【答案】8. B 9. C 10. D 11. A

In the age of short videos and social media, most of us are used to reading in small pieces: a 15-second video introduction, a 100-word post, a 3-line news headline. We can get information quickly and easily, but many people are losing the ability to do deep reading — the slow, focused reading of a long text, which helps us understand complex ideas, think critically and develop empathy (共情).
A 2025 study by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences found that over 68% of young people aged 18-35 read less than one complete book a year, and most of their daily reading time is spent on fragmented content on social media. “Deep reading is not just about finishing a book. It’s about engaging with the text, questioning the writer’s ideas, connecting what you read with your own experience, and forming your own opinions,” said Professor Zhang Wei, a literature expert from Peking University. “When we read in fragments, we only get the surface information, but we can’t develop the ability to think deeply about complex problems.”
Many people may think that deep reading is a waste of time in this fast-paced society, but it actually brings many long-term benefits. Studies have shown that deep reading can improve our concentration, reduce stress, and develop our emotional intelligence. When we read a novel, for example, we put ourselves in the characters’ shoes, experience their feelings, and learn to understand different points of view. This helps us develop empathy and communicate better with others in real life.
So how can we get back the habit of deep reading? Professor Zhang gives some simple tips. First, start with a book you are really interested in, not a book that others say you “should” read. Second, set a small daily goal, like reading 20 pages a day, and stick to it. Third, turn off your phone and other electronic devices when you read, so you can focus without distraction. “Deep reading is like a muscle. The more you practice it, the stronger it gets,” said Professor Zhang. “In a world full of noise and distraction, the ability to focus and think deeply is the most valuable skill we can have.”
12. What problem does the text point out in the first paragraph?
A. People are losing the ability of deep reading.
B. Fragmented reading brings too much information.
C. Social media is taking up too much of people’s time.
D. Complex ideas are hard for people to understand now.
13. What does the underlined word “fragmented” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Long and complex.
B. Broken into small pieces.
C. Very interesting and attractive.
D. About academic knowledge.
14. What is one of the benefits of deep reading according to the text?
A. It helps people avoid stress in daily life.
B. It improves people’s communication skills.
C. It allows people to get information quickly.
D. It helps people remember things better.
15. What is the main purpose of the last paragraph?
A. To explain the importance of deep reading.
B. To introduce the history of deep reading.
C. To give advice on developing deep reading habits.
D. To encourage people to read more books.
【答案】12. A 13. B 14. B 15. C
根据第一段中“We can get information quickly and easily, but many people are losing the ability to do deep reading — the slow, focused reading of a long text, which helps us understand complex ideas, think critically and develop empathy (共情).(我们能够快速、轻松地获取信息,但许多人正在丧失深度阅读的能力——那种缓慢、专注地阅读长篇文字的能力,这种阅读方式能帮助我们理解复杂的思想、进行批判性思考并培养共情能力)”可知,第一段指出的问题是人们正在丧失深度阅读的能力,故选A。
【13题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第一段中“In the age of short videos and social media, most of us are used to reading in small pieces: a 15-second video introduction, a 100-word post, a 3-line news headline.(在短视频和社交媒体盛行的时代,我们大多数人已经习惯了碎片化的阅读方式:15 秒的视频介绍、100 字的帖子、3 行的新闻标题)”和第二段中“over 68% of young people aged 18-35 read less than one complete book a year(18 至 35 岁的年轻人中,超过 68%的人每年阅读的完整书籍少于一本)”可知,上文提到现在人们习惯碎片化阅读,此处对应社交媒体上拆分的零散内容,前文又提到每年阅读的完整书籍少于一本,因此此处指“他们每天的阅读时间大多花在社交媒体上的碎片化内容上”,fragmented意为“被拆成小块的、碎片化的”,故选B。
【14题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中“When we read a novel, for example, we put ourselves in the characters’ shoes, experience their feelings, and learn to understand different points of view. This helps us develop empathy and communicate better with others in real life.(例如,当我们阅读一部小说时,我们会设身处地地站在角色的角度去思考,体验他们的感受,并学会理解不同的观点。这有助于我们培养同理心,并在现实生活中更好地与他人交流)”可知,深度阅读的一个好处是提高沟通能力,故选B。
【15题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段内容,结合“So how can we get back the habit of deep reading? Professor Zhang gives some simple tips.(那么,我们怎样才能重新养成深度阅读的习惯呢?张教授给出了几个简单的建议)”可知,最后一段的主要目的是给出培养深度阅读习惯的建议,故选C。
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)没换
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Urban areas around the world are facing a growing issue: the rise of stray (流浪) animals, including cats and dogs. These animals often struggle to find food and shelter. ____16____ However, with the right strategies, communities can turn the tide and create a safer environment for both humans and stray animals.
One effective step is to establish community feeding stations. These stations should be placed in quiet, low-traffic areas to avoid disturbing residents. ____17____ By providing consistent food sources, communities can reduce the number of stray animals wandering the streets in search of meals.
Another key measure is to promote trap-neuter-return (TNR) programs. ____18____ TNR involves trapping (诱捕) strays, having them neutered (绝育) by a veterinarian, and then returning them to their original location. This not only controls the stray population over time but also helps keep healthy animals in their familiar habitats, where they are less likely to become aggressive.
____19____ Many people want stray animals to be removed from their neighborhoods immediately. Many people abandon pets because they do not understand the responsibility of pet ownership. Local organizations can host workshops on pet care and raise awareness about the consequences of abandoning animals. When residents understand the issues, they are more likely to support protection efforts.
Finally, building partnerships between local governments, animal shelters, and community members is essential. Without such partnerships, individual efforts to protect stray animals often fail to make a long-term difference. Shelters can provide the resources for TNR programs, while volunteers can help monitor feeding stations. ____20____
A. With these efforts, the issues will no longer exist.
B. Take residents’ concerns into consideration is important.
C. They are designed to control the stray animal population.
D. Governments can pass laws that ban animal abandonment.
E. They can also threaten public health if not properly managed.
F Education also plays a crucial role in stray animal protection.
G. They should also be regularly cleaned to prevent the spread of disease.
【答案】16. E 17. G 18. C 19. F 20. D

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
My Opinion on Introducing Tablets into Our Classrooms
The school’s proposal to introduce tablet computers for classroom learning has sparked considerable discussion among us students.
As for me, I fully support this proposal, for it can bring great convenience to our study and make teaching more efficient.
On the one hand, tablets can help us access learning resources quickly. When we meet difficult problems in class, we can search for relevant materials or explanations immediately instead of waiting for the teacher’s reply. On the other hand, tablets can save paper. Teachers can send homework and notes electronically, and we can take notes directly on the tablet, which is environmentally friendly.
I believe with proper use, tablets will become a good helper for our study and promote our learning efficiency greatly.

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I was invited to a cookout on an old friend’s farm in western Washington. I parked my car outside the farm and walked past a milking house which had apparently not been used in many years. A noise at a window caught my attention, so I entered it. It was a hummingbird (蜂鸟), desperately trying to escape. She was covered in spider-webs (蛛网) and was barely able to move her wings. She ceased her struggle the instant I picked her up.
With the bird in my cupped hand, I looked around to see how she had gotten in. The broken window glass was the likely answer. I stuffed a piece of cloth into the hole and took her outside, closing the door securely behind me.
When I opened my hand, the bird did not fly away; she sat looking at me with her bright eyes. I removed the sticky spider-webs that covered her head and wings. Still, she made no attempt to fly. Perhaps she had been struggling against the window too long and was too tired? Or too thirsty?
As I carried her up the blackberry-lined path toward my car where I kept a water bottle, she began to move. I stopped, and she soon took wing but did not immediately fly away.
Hovering (悬停), she approached within six inches of my face. For a very long moment, this tiny creature looked into my eyes, turning her head from side to side. Then she flew quickly out of sight.
During the cookout, I told my hosts about the hummingbird incident. They promised to fix the window. As I was departing, my friends walked me to my car. I was standing by the car when a hummingbird flew to the center of our group and began hovering. She turned from person to person until she came to me. She again looked directly into my eyes, then let out a squeaking call and was gone. For a moment, all were speechless. Then someone said, “She must have come to say goodbye.”
注意:
1. 续写词数应为 150 左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。
A few weeks later, I went to the farm again.

I was just about to leave when the hummingbird appeared.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
A few weeks later, I went to the farm again. As my car neared it my thoughts drifted back to the moment when I rescued the hummingbird from the spider’s web. I rushed back to the deserted house. It was a great comfort that the original hole in the window was nowhere to be found. Leaving the house, I couldn’t help wondering how it was getting on now. Had it managed to find its way back home, or was it still out there somewhere struggling to survive?
I was just about to leave when the hummingbird appeared. A flash of movement caught my attention. I turned around to see the same hummingbird hovering in the air. It seemed that the bird was waiting for me, its beady eyes locked on mine as if trying to convey some deep, unspoken gratitude. I felt a surge of relief and awe at the sight of this sound and grateful creature, and I knew that I would always cherish the memories we shared as I climbed into my car and drove away.

5. What aspect of leaf-cutter ants’ behavior impress Chen most?
A. Their skill in building large underground nests.
B. Their strong and powerful defense against enemies.
C. Their ability to communicate through sound signals.
D. Their highly organized division of labor among groups.
6. What does Chen Rui expect people to do?

F. Education also plays a crucial role in stray animal protection.
G. They should also be regularly cleaned to prevent the spread of disease.
