Have you ever seen a building that looks like it’s from the future? Or one that seems to go perfectly with nature? These might be examples of “green buildings”.
Green buildings are structures that are designed and built in an environmentally responsible way. This means they use less energy and water. They also aim to reduce harm to the environment and provide healthier spaces for people.
One key idea is “saving energy”. Green buildings often have special windows that keep heat in during winter and out during summer. They might use solar panels (太阳能板) on the roof to create electricity from sunlight. Some even use natural wind to help with cooling, reducing the need for electricity.
Another important part is “saving water”. Green buildings can collect rainwater to use for toilets or watering plants. They also use water-saving taps and showers to reduce waste.
Using sustainable (可持续的) materials is also important. This means using wood from forests that are managed carefully, so trees are replanted. Or using recycled materials like steel and glass.
But green buildings aren’t just about technology. They’re also about connecting people with nature. Many green buildings have more windows to let in natural light, and some even have indoor gardens or “green roofs” covered with plants. Studies show that being close to nature can make people feel happier and more creative.
So, the next time you see a strange-looking building, take a closer look. It might be a green building, working quietly to protect our planet.
4.What is the main goal of green buildings?
A.To make buildings look strange and futuristic.
B.To build houses as cheaply as possible.
C.To create environmentally friendly buildings.
D.To use the newest technology.
5.Which of the following are the methods of saving energy in green buildings?
①Putting solar panels on the roof. ②Using recycled steel and glass materials.
③Using special windows to control temperature. ④Using natural wind for cooling.
A.①②④ B.②③④ C.①②③ D.①③④
6.What is the main idea of Paragraph 6?
A.Green buildings make good use of technology to save water.
B.Green buildings help connect people with nature.
C.Indoor gardens and green roofs are the most important parts of green buildings.
D.Natural light can make people happier and more creative.
7.What is the writer’s attitude (态度) towards green buildings?
A.Doubtful. B.Supportive. C.Disappointed. D.Uninterested.
【答案】4.C 5.D 6.B 7.B
【解析】本文主要介绍了绿色建筑的定义、特点以及其在节能、节水、使用可持续材料和人与自然连接等方面的理念。
4.第二段明确指出目标:“Green buildings are structures that are designed and built in an environmentally responsible way. This means they use less energy and water. They also aim to reduce harm to the environment and provide healthier spaces for people.”,说明绿色建筑的主要目标是创建环保建筑。
5.第三段提到节能方法:“Green buildings often have special windows that keep heat in during winter and out during summer. They might use solar panels (太阳能板) on the roof to create electricity from sunlight. Some even use natural wind to help with cooling, reducing the need for electricity.”,说明绿色建筑节能的方法有在屋顶放置太阳能板、使用特殊窗户控制温度、利用自然风降温,即①③④。
6.第六段第一句指出主旨:“But green buildings aren’t just about technology. They’re also about connecting people with nature.”,说明第六段主要讲的是绿色建筑有助于人们与自然建立联系。
7.最后一段提到作者态度:“So, the next time you see a strange-looking building, take a closer look. It might be a green building, working quietly to protect our planet.”,说明作者对绿色建筑是支持的态度。
C
Today, in my fridge, there are a few grapes, some bananas and some juice. There is also a pizza, and some burgers. I know what this food does to my body, but what does it do to the world around me? It’s time to look at my carbon footprint and think about the good, the bad and the really ugly.
My first stop is the label. Labels give us lots of information: how long we can keep our food, how healthy it is and where it comes from. A few hundred years ago, most of our food came from local places, but today, food travels thousands of miles. We refrigerate it, and then transport it in planes and ships all over the world. I look at the pizza and feel bad at once—not because it’s unhealthy, but because the seafood on it comes all the way from Thailand. I take out a banana it’s from Brazil, but that’s not too bad. It came here by boat, so the carbon footprint is small.
The next stop is the packaging. Unlike bananas, food like grapes needs protection with package. However, in the UK, we don’t recycle all our packaging. We throw away the plastic containers holding fruits like grapes. More than 30% of packaging waste ends up in landfills instead of being sent to recycling centers.
Then I look at the grapes in my fridge—they’re in a plastic box and they’re from Spain. But at least they grew in natural sunlight. In the UK, people grow grapes in greenhouses, which means our grapes use more energy. But there is one other thing in my fridge, and as if pizza and grapes are “bad”, then this food is “really ugly”—the burgers. They have the biggest carbon footprint because they come from cows. In the USA, cows create the same amount of greenhouse gases as 20 million cars!
As I close the fridge door, I make a new checklist for my next trip to the supermarket. Maybe I could grow my own vegetables too.
8.What does “carbon footprint” mean in the passage?
A.The cost of buying foreign food.
B.The possible health risks of daily food.
C.The distance food travels from place to place.
D.The effect of food choices on the environment.
9.What does the writer learn about the food in his fridge?
A.The pizza is bad because of its unhealthy seafood.
B.The bananas are good as they grow in Brazil.
C.The grapes are bad because they need to be packed.
D.The burgers are ugly as they need more energy.
10.What question is most likely on the writer’s new supermarket checklist?
A.“Are these apples grown locally?”
B.“Does this fish have enough packaging?”
C.“Is this apple pie cheaper than the frozen one?”
D.“Will these pieces of beef stay fresh for three days?”
11.What is the purpose of writing the passage?
A.To help people choose healthy foreign food.
B.To explain how different kinds of food are produced.
C.To teach people to count the carbon footprint of the food.
D.To call on people to be eco-friendly when buying food.
【答案】8.D 9.C 10.A 11.D
【解析】本文通过讲述冰箱里食物的来源、包装等对环境的影响,呼吁人们在购买食物时要环保。
8.文中提到食品从产地运输到消费者手中,如披萨上的海鲜来自泰国,香蕉来自巴西等,还提到了食品运输、包装等带来的环境影响,结合第二段“I look at the pizza and feel bad at once—not because it’s unhealthy, but because the seafood on it comes all the way from Thailand.”以及倒数第二段“as if pizza and grapes are ‘bad’, then this food is ‘really ugly’—the burgers. They have the biggest carbon footprint because they come from cows.”可知,“carbon footprint”指的是食物选择对环境的影响,而不是购买外国食物的成本、日常食物的健康风险或食物运输的距离。
9.根据第三段“Unlike bananas, food like grapes needs protection with package. However, in the UK, we don’t recycle all our packaging. We throw away the plastic containers holding fruits like grapes. More than 30% of packaging waste ends up in landfills instead of being sent to recycling centers.”
D
According to railway officials, since September 30,2025, paper tickets have no longer been used. They are completely discontinued (终止) and replaced (取代) by electronic tickets that you can get online. Many people have been sharing photos of their old paper tickets on social media in memory of the past.
Starting from November 1, 2019, China’s railway system began using fully digital e—tickets. This means passengers no longer have to go to ticket windows or machines to get paper tickets for reimbursement (报销), so that they can get back the money they spent. Instead, they could get e—tickets online whenever they needed them.
To make sure everyone could get used to this change, a grace (宽限期) period was provided. This grace period lasted until September 30, 2025. During this time, paper tickets remained available (可获得的) for those who needed them.
China Railway’s 12306 service confirmed that after September 30, passengers would not be able to get paper tickets any longer. A customer service agent (客服) said, “After that, all stations stopped offering them. Everything became electronic, and we have not received any news about further changes.”
China’s move toward paperless train travel actually started back in 2018. In November of that year, electronic tickets were first tested on the Hainan Roundabout Railway. The trial (测试) expanded (扩大) in July the following year to 13 stations on the Chengdu-Chongqing high-speed railway. By June 2020, e-tickets had been used all across China on all normal-speed (标准速度) railways. From that time on, passengers could travel using just their ID cards. It was at this point that paper tickets began to be stamped (盖章) with “For Reimbursement Only”. ________
Some people were worried that older passengers might find it difficult to get used to the change. Even though paper tickets were being phased out (逐步淘汰), passengers could still print a travel itinerary (行程信息单) at self—service machines, which included all important information like departure (启程) time, station names, seat number, and gate number. This made sure that all passengers could easily check their journey details.
12.Which of the following sentences about paper tickets is TRUE?
A.Paper tickets are no longer offered to passengers now.
B.Paper tickets are still used in some major stations now.
C.People can choose either paper tickets or e-tickets now.
D.During the grace period, nobody could get paper tickets.
13.Which of the following sentences can best fill in ________ in the passage?
A.However, many people preferred the old way.
B.So no passengers had to keep them carefully.
C.That means they were not needed to get on the train.
D.That’s why all the paper tickets were no longer used.
14.What does the writer probably think of the change to e-tickets?
A.It causes trouble for old people. B.It should be stopped at once.
C.It is a necessary and helpful step. D.It is useless for most passengers.
15.What is the passage mainly about?
A.The history of train tickets in China.
B.The ways to get reimbursement for train tickets.

Learning to play a musical instrument is more than just a hobby for many teenagers. Recent studies show that this activity can have several positive effects on their development. For example, playing music helps improve memory and concentration (注意力). This often leads to better performance in school subjects like math and science.
Besides study benefits, music also provides emotional advantages (情感优势). Many young people find that playing an instrument helps them express personal feelings and relax.
Furthermore, being part of a school band teaches students valuable social and teamwork skills. They also build confidence through performing in front of people. As one high school student said, “The first time I played a song in a concert, I was scared. But after receiving applause (掌声), I felt very proud and more confident.”
Then, how to pick a suitable instrument to learn? First, follow your favorite music style and personal interest. If you like soft sounds, you can choose the violin or the piano. If you prefer loud and energetic music, the drums or the guitar may be better.

5.Which of the following are the methods of saving energy in green buildings?

7.What is the writer’s attitude (态度) towards green buildings?

C.The full use of e-tickets in China’s railway system.
D.The reasons why paper tickets are better than e-tickets.

If you prefer loud and energetic music, the drums or the guitar may be better.
