Hi Lisa!
I’m sending this email from a café in Paris! I’m here with my cousin for the Fashion Week. It is so exciting to see clothes and styles from all over the world. Famous designers and models come here to show their new work.
Designers say fashion is a kind of art and a way to express different cultures. You can see traditional patterns from Africa, modern street style from Tokyo, and beautiful dresses made of silk from China all in one show.
The shows are amazing, but the most interesting part is seeing the “street style”. People from different countries wear their own unique clothes outside the show. You can see so many creative ideas just by walking down the street! Today we saw a girl wearing a dress made from recycled plastic bottles. It was so cool!
Some of the clothes on the show are very expensive, of course. But many designers are now thinking about making sustainable fashion. This means they are using eco-friendly materials and trying to reduce waste. Yesterday we went to a talk. A famous designer said, “Good fashion should be beautiful for people and kind to the earth.”
The weather here is nice, and the city is full of energy. There are lots of fashion lovers everywhere, and the cafés near the shows are pretty crowded. Someone told us this is the most popular fashion event in the world.
That is all for now. My battery is running low.
Yours,
Jenny

根据“but it doesn’t have to be”可知,此处表示“可能”的推测,语气较为客观。“can”表示可能性,符合“时尚有时可能昂贵”的语境。“should”表示“应该”,“must”表示“必须”,均不符合此处对客观事实的描述。

7.句意:下次你去购物时,为什么不先试试二手商店呢?
此处考查固定句型“why not do sth.”,表示建议。“why not”后接动词原形,意为“为什么不……”,符合建议语境。“why don’t”后需接主语,“not to”后接不定式,均不符合该句型结构。
8.句意:记住,看起来好看并不意味着要在最新潮流上花很多钱。
“mean doing sth.”

Gabrielle Chanel, widely known as Coco Chanel, was a world-famous French fashion designer. She was born in 1883 into a poor family in France. Unfortunately, her mother passed away when she was still a little girl, and she had to move to an orphanage (孤儿院) afterwards. There, the kind nuns taught her the basic skill of sewing patiently. This early sewing training laid a solid foundation for her future career and helped her a great deal in her later life.
When she grew up, Coco Chanel followed her passion for fashion and began to design hats. She sold these carefully designed hats to rich women, and her works soon gained popularity because of their unique style. Later, with her hard work and persistence, she opened her own fashion shops in Paris, the fashion capital of the world. She disliked the heavy, tight, and uncomfortable clothes that women were forced to wear at that time. Instead, she created simple, elegant and loose-fitting clothes, such as the classic little black dress. These innovative clothes made women feel more comfortable and helped them build up confidence in daily life.
Apart from clothing design, Coco Chanel also made remarkable achievements in the perfume field. She launched her iconic perfume, Chanel No. 5, in 1921. Different from the strong-scented perfumes popular at that time, Chanel No. 5 had a fresh and elegant fragrance, which made it quickly become a hit all over the world. Coco Chanel devoted her entire life to the fashion industry; she worked diligently day after day and kept designing new styles until she was 87 years old. Her creative designs completely changed the traditional way women dressed and broke the old-fashioned rules. Even today, her classic works are still popular among fashion lovers around the globe.
1.Where was Coco Chanel born?
2.Who taught Coco Chanel to sew when she was young?
3.What kind of clothes did Coco Chanel create?
4.What famous perfume did Coco Chanel launch?
5.How old was Coco Chanel when she stopped designing?

1.She was born in a poor family in France. 2.The kind nuns in the orphanage taught her to sew. 3.She created simple, elegant and loose-fitting clothes. 4.She launched Chanel No. 5. 6.She was 87 years old when she stopped designing. 7.I admire Coco Chanel because she created comfortable and elegant clothes, broke old-fashioned rules, and worked hard for her dream.

For most students in Shanghai, Monday to Friday means wearing a school uniform. It is simple and practical, but some students feel it is boring. They believe that clothes should show their personality. Therefore, the weekend becomes a time for 1 (fashionable) shows on the streets.
On Saturdays, the parks are full of young people. You can see many teenagers wearing 2 (flower) dresses or cool T-shirts. Boys often prefer 3 (bag) jeans that allow them to move easily. Since they are young and 4 (energy), they like clothes that are comfortable for sports and running. A good pair of 5 (train) is a must-have item for them.
Girls might spend more time on their 6 (outfit). Some like to add small 7 (decorate) such as ribbons or pins, to their bags. They want to be different from others. However, comfort is still important. When they go to the library or a café, they prefer a 8 (relax) style.
Of course, looking good does not mean spending a lot of money. Most students cannot afford expensive luxury brands. They are good at finding nice clothes at 9 (reason) prices. 10 (interest), some students even modify old clothes to make them look new and unique.
