Some locals are astonished by receiving traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) from a foreigner, but Walker is confident in his path. He is among a growing number of foreigners engaging in TCM, mixing their Western backgrounds with ancient Chinese healing arts. Walker, from Germany, came to China in 2015, drawn by martial arts. While learning Shaolin kung fu in Henan, he developed a curiosity about Chinese culture and medicine. After a year of intensive Chinese study, he signed up in Henan University of Chinese Medicine. Specializing in acupuncture, he has treated over a thousand patients. “He is skilled in heartbeat diagnosis (诊断) and acupuncture,” said his teacher, Professor Yu Dongdong. Under his Chinese name “Wuming”, Walker has become an online hit on a video-sharing platform, gathering over one million followers. Balancing his roles as practitioner and Internet celebrity, he presents local culture in fluent Henan dialect (方言), often alongside his local girlfriend. “Your grasp of the Henan dialect is even more authentic than mine,” comments one follower. Apparently, his cultural involvement has endeared him to many. He also treated his grandmother's health problems with acupuncture, leading to her swift recovery. With his growing fan base, Walker feels a responsibility. “Posting videos was just a pastime, but now I want to participate in more meaningful projects,” he says. He plans to create bilingual videos promoting TCM and sharing stories of ancient Chinese medical experts. “I'm devoted to spreading awareness of TCM and its far-reaching cultural significance,” he adds. Replacing some traditional vegetable oil crops with camellia could lead to increased oil yield and reductions in greenhouse gas emissions (释放), water consumption, and pesticide use. Camellia, or tea seed oil, is a high-yielding bush that grows well in challenging conditions where other oil crops struggle. Despite its potential health benefits, camellia oil remains largely unknown outside China. Currently, about a third of the world's farmland is used to grow vegetable oils. This area is expanding, contributing to deforestation, global warming and wildlife loss. According to Thomas Wanger from Westlake University in Hangzhou, China, the environmental impact of six main oil crops—soya, palm, rapeseed, sunflower, peanut, and olive—results in an estimated 1.2 gigatonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually, primarily due to fertilizer use and deforestation. Wanger's team explored the environmental benefits of replacing some of these crops with Camellia oleifera. This plant can yield up to 2.8 tonnes of oil per hectare, second only to palm oil, and can grow in poor soil and on steep hillsides. Camellia oil is rich in oleic acid (油酸), which may lower heart disease risk and has a higher smoke point than many oils, reducing harmful chemical formation during cooking. If camellia were grown on 11% of the land currently used for other oil crops, it could produce the same oil volume while decreasing greenhouse gas emissions by 14%, water use by 5%, land use by 7%, and pesticide use by 9%. However, these figures would depend on how camellia is grown, says Wanger, “The benefits depend strongly on where it is planted and to replace what.” “Government action would probably be needed to encourage a camellia oil market,” says Wanger. “The price currently is very high, and so I think the consumer might be a bit hesitant.” “The commercial reality is that new oil crops won't achieve a large market share unless production can compete in the market,” says Christopher at Alternative Fuels Consultancy. 【解题导语】 本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了种植山茶花作物生产食用油的优势,同时指出其推广面临价格高等问题,并强调扩大种植面积以增加其市场份额的重要性。 28.What are the environmental benefits of growing camellia plants? This award was given to a team using machine learning to solve a big problem in biology: predicting and designing the 3D shapes of proteins. Most of this work was done at a tech company, marking a notable shift that high-level scientific research can also originate outside traditional academic settings. Proteins are crucial for our bodies and are involved in almost every biological process. The shape of a protein determines its function. If a protein is shaped incorrectly, it can cause serious diseases like Alzheimer's and diabetes. Historically, predicting a protein's shape from its amino acid sequence (序列) was very difficult and puzzled scientists for decades. The breakthrough happened with A-Fold, a machine learning program that can accurately predict protein structures from their amino acid sequences. This tool has changed the field, providing insights into the structure of over 200 million proteins so far. This data is expected to speed up progress in medicine and drug development, opening new ways to treat diseases. The tech company's success with A-Fold also underscores the growing impact of artificial intelligence in various scientific domains, showing that AI can tackle complex biological problems and contribute to critical advancements in health and medicine. The Nobel Prize committee awarded this work to highlight the value of combining different areas in science, where technology and biology meet to create amazing results. This achievement not only shows what AI can do but also sets an example for future scientific projects that combine technology with traditional research to address global problems. 【解题导语】 本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了人工智能预测和设计蛋白质结构,该团队凭此获得了诺贝尔化学奖。 32.Why was the team awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry? It's my great pleasure to deliver a speech here. When it comes to the parks in my hometown, I'd like to introduce the Riverside Park, hoping you like it. “Riverside Park” is a general term for a series of parks located along the main river in the central urban area of my city.During the visit, you can enjoy the beautiful views and fresh air. In addition, the leisure and sport center provides you with great opportunities for relaxation in a completely new way. With all the natural beauty, the park has been gaining greater popularity among visitors from all over the country. Do come and have fun with your friends during your holiday! Thank you for listening! 第二节(满分25分) 阅读下面的材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。 Two Coins for the Carousel (旋转木马) I hold the two shiny coins in my pocket—just enough for two carousel rides. The air is filled with the sounds of the carousel: the cheerful music, the rhythmic spinning (旋转) , and the laughter of children. They're all reaching for rings from the dispenser (自动售货机) as they spin past, each hoping to catch the gold ring. That's the one I'm after too. Every ride, a single gold ring appears, and whoever grabs it wins a ticket for a free giant ice-cream. Silver rings just mean another ride, but I'm set on the gold. Spotting my friend Alice across the crowd, I pull Mom by the sleeve. “Look, Mama,” I say, pointing. “Can I go and say hello?” Mama nods, saying “Go ahead, Grace.” I take off through the crowd. Alice is watching the carousel, her eyes fixed on the spinning horses. “Are you going to ride?” I ask. She shakes her head. “Papa doesn't bring any coins today.” Feeling the weight of my two coins, I know Mama won't mind if I share. “Do you want to ride with me?” I offer, holding up the coins. Her smile is all the answer I need. “I'm going to share my coins with Alice,” I whisper to Mama as we make our way toward the carousel. Mama's smile tells me I made the right choice. I hand my coin to the worker and Alice gives him my other coin. “Which one do you want to ride?” asks Alice. I think she wants me to pick first since I'm the one who paid. A blue horse with a chipped nose catches my eye. “This one,” I say proudly, climbing on and grasping the pole tightly. Alice looks around me quickly and picks the one right behind me.As we spin, the music slows, signaling the end of the ride. I have one more chance for the gold ring. And there it is, sliding down the dispenser. I stretch out my hand, but it slips through my fingers. Maybe next time. 注意:续写词数应为150个左右。 Behind me, Alice starts shouting with excitement.__________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “Grace! Looking back, I see her holding up the gold ring high, her face brightened up with joy. “That's amazing, Alice!” I exclaim, with a wide grin spreading across my face, though a touch of disappointment flashes through my mind. We climb down from the carousel. I run to my mom while Alice can't wait to get her giant ice-cream. Mama sensitively perceives the little upset on my face, gently comforting me, “Maybe next time.” “Grace! Let's share it!” she shouts, holding up the ice-cream. Hearing her words, I smile, my eyes twinkling with joy. I look at Mama who smiles back and nods. I run with Alice to a bench. We eat the ice-cream, talking about how lucky we are. After a while, Mama reminds me it is time to go home. “Thanks for the ice-cream,” I say to Alice. “Thanks for your coin,” she responds. It is at that moment that we both enjoy the happiness of sharing. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $单元过关检测6。第一部分听力。第一节听下面5段对话,每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的ABC3个选项中选出最佳选项。听完每段对话后,都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题,每段对话仅读一遍。Text one, excuse me, where are the women shoes?
